Eventually Titus was taken from the room, Nyko came with supplies and then Anya and Indra came and Clarke didn't have time to get stage fright. She just kept doing the night right thing, or what she thought was, she looked regularly at Lexa, who was watching her, trying to memorise every expresion, the precise shade of her blue eyes, she smell of her hair incase she slipped away and never saw them again, she wanted to remember, "Stay with me, Lexa."

It was hours later when Clarke was satisfied she had done all she could, Lexa had been given pain relief although she was still mostly conscious, the bullet was in a little dish, there appeared to be a complete cessation of bleeding, which signalled no internal organ damage - Clarke hoped and Clarke had closed the wound with the most perfect stitches she had ever stitched. She had wiped down Lexa's body as best she could and asked for Ellie to be sent in.

Clarke sank in a chair, Anya came with a glass of wine and a wet flannel and wiped her blackened fingers clean and pressed her to drink. They were all shaken and although everyone but Indra already liked Clarke they were amazed by her performance, saving Heda's life, even Indra had looked at her with less disgust and something approaching appreciation if not respect.

"Can you please organise protection, I won't leave her but we all know I am no warrior."

Indra left to organise it and Anya touched Clarke's heart and said, "You are in here. I have much to do now, but I will have someone outside that you may send to me for anything you may need. I will come back later, and Clarke, would you let Aden come? He will be very worried about Heda?"

"Of course Anya, let him come? Mochof, take care." Clarke took time to wash before Aden came, she didn't want him to see the Commander's blood all over her hands, he may be a warrior but was also a boy. She covered herself modestly and returned to watch over Lexa who was now asleep, probably due to lack of blood if nothing else. When Ellie came they changed the bedding, made Lexa comfortable and took away all the bloody linen, buckets of water and other signs of the near devastation. Clarke didn't want to see it nor did she want Lexa or Aden to see it.

When Aden came she pulled up a chair for him and went out onto the balcony to give him some privacy. Clarke was determined to only have Anya, Indra and Aden and herself keep vigil over their beloved Heda and Lexa. Ellie sent a constant supply of fresh snacks, meals and beverages to the room and kept taking away uneaten bowls, plates and flasks.

Anya and Aden assured Clarke that Nightblood blood had properties of rapid healing and she believed them. Lexa's wound was already healing and although she hadn't woken up properly she had mumbled, murmured and twitched in her sleep which brought Clarke much comfort, there was also no sign of infection.

And then, on the second day, she woke up, the first thing she saw was Clarke's blue yes watching and waiting for her, "Oh my love," Clarke choked out, tears of relief springing up before she could repress them. Clarked kissed Lexa's hands, her cheeks, her forehead and finally could not resist and a quick peck on her lips, "I love you so much." she said. She ran to the door and told the messenger to inform Anya, Indra and Aden that Heda was awake, and she brought back water for Lexa to drink while she adjusted to her surroundings.

Lexa tried to say words but her throat and mouth were dry, Clarke provided water and reminded her to go slow, she would be here forever, to hear anything she wished to say. Lexa smiled gratefully at her and stretched her fingers out to feel Clarkes hand in hers again. Clarke tried to move aside when those three faithful servants of Heda arrived to check on her condition, she would not let Clarke's hand go.

As soon as she began speaking, asking about Titus, requesting updates about the clans, asking about Polis, city supplies and the mood of the people in response to her injury, and when she asked about the Nightbloods' training under Gaia, they knew Heda was back! Clarke thought a couple of weeks, they thought one week and Heda thought tomorrow. She gave her orders and they left her in the best care available - Clarke.

When Lexa asked Clarke to come and lay down with her Clarke was only too pleased, intending to provide comfort to her injured warrior, she didn't realise how tired she was until she woke up with her arms wrapped around Lexa and her head resting on Lexa's shoulder.

"Sorry, Ai hodnes, let me get you some water. What about some soup, are you hungry?" Lexa enjoyed letting Clarke fuss over her, and fuss Clarke did. Brushing out and braiding her hair, fixing pillows, straightening furs, feeding her, touching her, caressing her, looking at her like she was the most valuable thing in Clarke's world. It did more for Lexa's recovery than any healing agents could.
