"Good morning!" Natalie greeted over the phone.
"Good morning!" Reid greeted back, a little surprised and pleased with the happiness in her voice.
"Do you want to grab a coffee before work?" Reid asked.
Natalie giggled, "Spence, aren't we going on a date tonight?"
Reid hesitated, he was nervous now that Natalie thought he was too eager or worse, clingy.
"Yes. We don't have to get coffee. I'm sorry. I-"
Natalie interrupted him, "Whoa. Whoa. Yes. I'd love to get coffee before work. I have something I want to run by you anyway and I don't want to on our date."
"Okay. The one near your house?" Reid asked.
"Sure. It's on your way. I'll see you there soon." Natalie said.
"See you soon, Nat."
"Hey there." Natalie walked up behind Reid, "how did you beat me here?"
He shrugged, "I ordered you a caramel latte."
She smiled, "Thank you."
"You made me a little nervous. What did you want to run by me?" Reid asked, bluntly.
"Oh. I'm sorry. It's not bad." Natalie reassured, "I've been thinking about-"
The barista called Reid's name for his order, Natalie noted he used Spence as the order name which made her smile and raise her eyebrows for no one to see.
She found a rare table near the window for Reid's sake as he didn't like being in the middle, it made him feel like the center of attention.
He set Natalie's drink in front of her and sat down.
"Sorry, you were interrupted. Everything okay?" Reid asked, kindly.
"Yes. I'm thinking about going to see Cat." Natalie didn't look at him as she spoke, she looked up to see whatever look appeared on his face.
He didn't seem to have a reaction. He didn't say anything. He waited.
She raised an eyebrow, "Do you have an opinion?"
He smirked a little, "If you think you should see Cat, you should see Cat. That might be the advice you gave me. You didn't tell me what to do when I asked about my mom. You let me decide so that's what I think you should do."
She relaxed her shoulders that she didn't know were tense until she heard Reid's words. She cupped her coffee with both hands, she looked down, smiling. "Thanks, Spence. I should have known that."
"And I'm here for whatever you need," Reid told her. "But right now, I should tell you, we need to get to work."
Natalie nodded as the two walked out of the shop to head to the B.A.U.
Natalie sighed as she got up from her desk in the bullpen to walk into Rossi's office.
Reid walked up to her, "are you okay?" He whispered to a standing Natalie.
She nodded, "Thanks."
He sat back down to continue working.
J.J. and Prentiss were now standing at Reid's desk. Morgan approached when he saw the two agents in front of the boy wonder.
"We're waiting," Prentiss said.
"What are you waiting for?" Reid asked, sincerely.
J.J. tilted her head, "Natalie?"
"You're waiting for Natalie?" Reid asked, now confused.
Morgan gently tapped his head, "Kid. They want to know whats going on with you and Natalie."
Reid rubbed his head, "Going on?" He was now playing dumb. He didn't know if Natalie wanted everyone to know and apparently he didn't hide it well.
He looked at his three friends, "I don't have anything to tell you."
They all rolled their eyes, "Okay." Prentiss answered for the team, rolling her eyes.
"I wanted to know what you thought about it," Natalie told Rossi.
"Visiting her in jail? It depends. Do you expect something out of it? Cat's not going to care if you visit her, you know that. If it's for you, you have to do what's best for you. That's okay." Rossi assured her.
"I don't think I expect anything but I guess I could," Natalie responded.
"Then there's your answer," Rossi said putting his arms out, palms facing up in a sort of shrug.
Natalie nodded in understanding. "Thanks, Rossi."
He nodded as she stood up and walked back to the bullpen to continue working.
The team didn't have a case so they were all catching up on their paperwork and perfecting their profiling skills.
It was towards the end of the day and Natalie had decided she would visit Cat. In order to do that, she needed to let the Unit Chief know as that was the protocol in the F.B.I.
She knocked on the wall since the door was always open, she didn't want to walk right in.
"Come in," Hotch answered the knock.
Natalie took a deep breath as she sat down. "I know the F.B.I. has to know when we do things like this or leave the country or something. I don't want to get in trouble since I'm so new to the team. I don't know if you'll think it's a bad idea."
She looked up from her hands which she had been rubbing together. She had rambled.
"Sorry. I'll get to the point. I'm going to visit Cat in prison." Natalie told the unit chief firmly.
"Okay. When? Are you wanting to stay behind on the next case for that? Because it will be dependent on what the next case is." Hotch answered.
"I'm not sure when. No, I won't need to stay behind. She's being held in D.C. so I don't have far to go." Natalie replied.
"Okay. Thank you for letting me know." Hotch reiterated.
Natalie nodded, she took a deep breath and walked out of his office.
Natalie and Morgan were the only two left in the bullpen but Natalie found a note on her desk from Reid, "I'll pick you up at 7. I'm excited!"
She smiled as she picked up the note.
"What do you got, Adams?" Morgan smiled, knowing who it was from.
She smirked, she wanted to tell someone and Natalie and Morgan were pretty good friends since he had aided in her profiler training.
"It's from Spence! He asked me to go on a date tonight, Morgan." She exclaimed.
Morgan grinned widely, he hugged Natalie, "Good. I am happy you're so happy. And to see the kid so happy? It's great."
"Thanks Morgan. I have to go get ready."
"Advice from someone who knows and loves you both?"
"Sure." She shrugged, she didn't mind advice from Morgan. She had a deep appreciation for him.
"I know you'll be nervous but Reid likes you and he's simple, that's not going to change. And no matter how dolled up you get, he will like you so don't get too nervous about it."
She giggled, "Thanks Morgan. I'm still getting dolled up though."
He laughed, "Okay. You go, Adams." He winked.
The two agents walked onto the elevator to leave the B.A.U.
A/N: I do have a reason for having Natalie tell Hotch her plan to visit Cat - it directly relates to the season 12 prison storyline. Let me know if you want me to continue Centric Genius into season 12 OR create a sequel for season 12. Again, if I do the sequel, it will be +60 chapters, please let me know what you'd like! Thank you for favoriting and following this story!
