Chapter 22

$^%^%^&%

While Kira worked on her powers with Malia, Scott and Liam went to the hospital to grab some things from his mom. Stiles was trying to convince Parrish to drive the van that would get them inside of Eichen. Isaac took Laci out to the woods for more training. She was improving every day and he knew she was training every night in her room too.

"Those guards are going to be twice your size and have weapons. You need to use that to your advantage. You'll be faster, smaller. You have the element of surprise." Isaac said as he watched Laci practice her punching on the punching bag they tied up on the tree.

Laci lifted her leg in a kick, hitting the bag in the correct spot before punching it twice. She practiced her upper cuts and jabs to the point her hands hurt through her gloves. Isaac kept drilling her though, knowing she had to be at her best if he was going to let her go into Eichen house without him or Scott with her.

It wasn't about being controlling. It was about keeping her alive. The last time she'd helped them with a fight, she ended up with a sword through her chest. He couldn't watch her die again, and he knew neither could Scott and Stiles. He had to make sure she was ready this time.

Grabbing her water, she declared it was break time. Breathing hard, she went and sat down by their bags. Isaac grabbed another water and sat beside her. "You know you don't have anything to prove to anyone. If you don't want to go in with Stiles, no one would think any less of you." He said, wishing she'd change her mind.

"I would. You don't get it, Isaac. I've always been the poor defenseless girl. I'm so sick of being the girl who's always crying and needing to be saved. I hate being that girl. The night I got killed, I don't regret protecting Derek. I'm sure Allison would say the same if she was here about protecting you from those Oni." She said, reaching over and taking his hand in hers.

He looked surpried by the gestor. "Laci, if anything happens to you . . ."

"I might not know how to handle a gun or a crossbow, but I can protect myself thanks to you." She said, cutting him off.

He was completely aware of the fact she was only a few inches away from him. He could easily lean over and kiss her. Her hand was still in his, her eyes staring into his. He wanted so badly to just kiss her. He wondered if she'd kiss him back or if she'd slap him for ruining the moment. He tried to remember what Scott had said. She didn't need someone hounding her for a date, she just needed a friend.

He reached up and tucked a lock of hair behind her ear, his thumb stroking her cheek. She bit her lip, a blush rising up her neck to her cheeks. "Isaac,"

He smiled weakly, nodding his head. "I know. I wasn't . . . I want to, but you're not ready. I know that."

She looked surprised initially before she smiled in thanks. She placed her hand over his on her cheek and squeezed. "Thank you."

The moment was broken when Laci's phone went off. It was Scott. Time for practicing was over. It was game time.

Laci and Isaac met Liam, Scott, Kira, Stiles, and Malia back at Scott and Laci's house. Laci went to change upstairs when they all compaired notes. When she came back down they were talking about how Kira did with her practice tests. "She took out the whole school?" Scott said in surprised.

"She took out the whole grid." Malia corrected him.

"Look, I failed every single practice try." Kira said nervously. "This isn't going to work."

"How far can we get without the brownout?" Liam asked.

"The front door." Stiles said sarcastically.

"We're going." Scott said determinedly.

"Scott, we went through boxes of light bulbs." Kira said, her nerves getting the best of her now.

"It doesn't matter." Scott said, taking a step toward them. "You can do this."

"The key card won't work unless there's a reboot and there's not reboot without a brownout."

"I know you can do this." Scott said. "Anyone here think she can't?"

"Not me." Liam said nervously.

Malia and Stiles were both not confident, but weren't about to voice it. Laci just hoped her brother was right. Isaac looked like he wanted to raise his hand, but Laci shot him a glare that warned him not to. "She's gonna be fine." Laci said, nudging Isaac in the side. He winced, clearing his throat nodding in agreement.

"I was the one who put you in the plan." Stiles said, trying to show his support for his friend.

They all turned to Malia who hadn't said anything yet. "What?"

"I believe in you too, Kira." Stiles whispered over to Malia.

Malia was not about to lie to save her friend's feelings though. "I'm the one about to be locked in an electrical room with her." Malia tensed when they all gave her a look before looking over at Kira. "You can do it."

"You guys are all crazy. We're all going to die."

#$%$$^%$

Their plan was insane, probably never would work, but they were doing it anyway. Malia and Kira were on their way inside Eichen house to sneak into the electrical room while Stiles, Liam, Isaac, Laci, and Scott were going in a different way. Parrish was driving the van while they hid in the back of it. The real kicker though? They were hiding in body bags.

Laci felt like her heart was beating against her chest, trying to burst out. She wondered if the others were feeling the same way. Parrish could mess up, let the guard know something was up on accident. One of the bags could move and blow their cover. Malia and Kira could be caught trying to get to the electrical room. All it took was one slip up and this was all over.

When she felt the truck stop, her breath caught in her throat. It felt like she couldn't breathe as she heard Parrish talking with the guard. When the doors opened and he demanded to see inside the bags, she thought they were goners. Of course, Scott planned for this. He had a plan in place in case Parrish was stopped at the gate.

She held in her laugh when the guy gagged, no doubt at the decomposing body they'd brought with them. It smelt rotted, a smell she was trying to block out so she herself didn't start gagging. Laci felt her body tense when the zipper to her bag started to unzip. Parrish was opening her bag. "No, no. Just go." The guard said before Parrish could fully undo the zipper.

Laci didn't let loose her breath she was holding onto until the doors to the van shut again. Soon enough, they were moving again. She didn't dare move a muscle as they transfered her from the van to the morgue. She didn't dare move until she heard the others.

Soon enough, her bag was being unzipped. She pushed back the flap, gasping as she sat up. Isaac was standing there, looking worried as she caught her breath. "I'm fine. I'm okay." She said, brushing her hair back as she looked around.

Isaac held out his hand to help her out. Taking it, she let him help her down from the table they'd put her on. She paused when she saw the look on Scott and Isaac's faces. Scott cleared his throat, avoiding her gaze. "You in a body bag just brought back some memories. Sorry." He said, looking away as he controled his breathing.

It couldn't be easy remembering that night. She felt guilty for making them remember the last time her body had been in one of these bags. Only that time, she wasn't alive inside. "Don't be sorry. It freaked me out too." She admitted, giving him a small smile. She knew it wouldn't make it better, but she had to try.

Stiles burst out of his bag then, gasping for breath. "Oh, my god. Never again."

Scott nodded his head before glancing at the timer on his phone. They only had minutes before they had to get Lydia and get out of here. "Fifteen minutes. Starting now." Scott said as he got himself out of his bag.

Liam and Stiles struggled to get out of their bags as Isaac helped Laci down. Laci jumped, startled, when Stiles suddenly fell off his table. She covered her mouth, hiding her laugh. She moved around the table to help him. He rubbed his head as he kicked the bag away from him, grumbling under his breath as he accepted her hand to help him up. "You'll be fine." She said as she checked his head.

Scott went over to the doorway, pressing his ear against it. He could hear footsteps on the other side. Once they were gone, he glanced back at the others before opening the door. Liam and Stiles were quick to follow him with Laci and Isaac bringing up the rear.

Stiles led the way down to Lydia's room. The werewolves were on their guard, listening for any in coming footsteps. Laci looked around nervously, just waiting for someone to catch them. Stiles was about to go around the corner when he suddenly stopped and backtracked, pushing the others back behind him.

Looking around the corner, they saw there were two guards standing at the gate. "What are they doing there?" Scott whispered.

"I don't know. Their rounds should have ended five minutes ago." Stiles whispered back.

Liam looked around the corner and sized up the two guards. "I can take them."

Isaac scoffed, rolling his eyes. "I'd like to see you try."

Scott held up his hand, cutting Liam off from making any come back. "No one's taking anyone."

"How much time?" Stiles asked.

Scott pulled his phone out of his pocket and sighed heavily. "Three minutes."

Laci looked around the corner, trying to come up with a plan. They couldn't risk getting caught being here. Just standing here waiting was just asking to be caught. So that wasn't much of an option either. "I'll just knock them out and hide the bodies." Liam suggested.

"Oh, my god. Please stop." Stiles whispered.

The five all jumped, startled, when one of the patiants banged against the glass. "Did you take the doctor?"

"What?" Liam whispered.

The patiant looked distraught and Laci couldn't help but feel bad for them. Both Malia and Stiles had been in here and she couldn't imagine what they'd gone through. Now Lydia was in here and she had a feeling it worse for her. "Did you take the doctor?" They said over to them. "I haven't had my medication. I need 10 millagrams at 8 am, 15 millagrams at 1 pm, and no more than 20 at dinner." They explained, getting more upset by the second.

Scott glanced over to see they hadn't gotten the guards attention yet, but if they didn't stop talking to this patiant they might soon. That would be bad. Very bad. "We'll get the doctor . . ." He whispered, wishing the person would just stop talking to them.

"Dr. Fenris." They said, their voice getting louder. "Dr. Fenris." They said again. Liam looked over and noticed that they guards were starting to realize something was going on. "They took Dr. Fenris." The patiant sobbed, hitting the glass.

The patiant kept hitting the glass angrily. "I haven't had my medication. I need the doctor. They took Dr. Fenris." He snapped again, hitting the glass.

Isaac glanced over, tensing when he saw that the guards were looking their way. "Guys . . . we're got company."

"Hey, someone shut him up." Stiles said when he noticed the guards.

"I need to see the doctor."

"Shut him up." Stiles whispered.

The boy kept hitting the glass, drawing unwanted attention their way. Laci gripped Isaac's hand out of habit, her eyes never leaving the boy. Isaac looked at her surprised. Scott gritted his teeth, trying to think of something to do before it dawned on him. His eyes changed to a blazing red as his teeth sharpened. He looked up, letting out a low growl. The boy immediately stopped, petrified. Stiles looked around the corner to see that the guards were going off in another direction.

Laci looked relieved, letting out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. She slowly let go of Isaac's hand, blushing as she tried not to meet his gaze.

"Come on." Stiles whispered.

The group hurried down the hallway together. They were walking down the hall when the lights flickered. "She did it. Kira did it." Liam said excitedly as they moved toward the next closed gate.

"Five minutes to get to Lydia." Scott said, reminding them.

Stiles went to slide the card through the door when they realized there was just a small problem. It wasn't there. There was no card reader to scan it through. "Where's the card reader?" He asked, panicked. "It should be here. It has to be here."

"They must have taken it out when the dread doctors got through."

"Are you telling me we came all the way down here just to be stopped by an ordinairy key. Are you kidding me?"

"We don't need a key." Liam said. "Not if we can break it down."

He had a point.

The three wolves all pushed at the door, trying to get it open. Laci and Stiles watched on as the three struggled with the door. Laci glanced at the phone, seeing that they were running out of time. She nudged Stiles, motioning to the phone. "Guys, we're running out of time." He said, reminding them that they were on a time schedule.

"We can't. The mountain ash, it's too much." Scott said, panting as the three all pulled back from the door.

Liam clenched his fists, trying to think of another way to get the door open. "Hit me."

Scott looked at him confused. "What?"

Stiles and Laci looked between them, just as surprised. Liam turned back to Scott and Isaac. "Hit me. I'll get angry and then I'll get stronger."

"Hit him. Hit him!" Stiles said, motioning for them to do something.

Isaac didn't hesitate before punching Liam. Nothing happened. Liam knew it had to be Scott. "I tried to take your powers. I tried to kill you. Hit me, Scott."

"He also left you for dead." Stiles pointed out.

"I wanted you dead." Liam growled.

Scott threw a punch.

"Do it again." Liam said, panting.

Scott punched him again. Liam let out a yell as he went down.

"It's gotta be harder than that." Stiles said, wincing at he looked between the two.

"Do it!" Liam growled, panting hard. "Do it!"

Scott gritted his teeth before he punched him again, the anger getting the best of him. Laci could see both of them were shifting. She jumped when Scott hit him again. "You angry?" He asked his beta. Liam let out a growl, his face shifted. "Let's do this." Scott growled before the two latched onto the door again. Slowly, it started to budge before it moved and dropped to the ground. "Stiles, Laci, go!" Scott said, motioning for them to go.

Laci and Stiles hurried down the hallway together, leaving the wolves behind. They only had two minutes left to find Lydia and get her out of there. The two jogged down the hall, making a turn into the next hall. Stiles knew the way to Lydia's room, at least she hoped he did.

They paused as they came to the next door, this one having a card slider. Stiles didn't hesitate before sliding the card and hurrying into the next hall before turning into a room. Inside the room was Lydia. "Stiles," She said out weakly.

Laci paused as she came in behind him, gasping when she saw the bloody drill before seeing the blood on Lydia's pillow. They were too late. Dr Valak had already done the procedure. Stiles looked relieved as he knelt down beside her. "You can't be here." Stiles took notice of the hole in her head before realizing she was restrained. Lydia was awake and responsive though. "You're going to die if you stay here. All of you." She said, looking between them.

"We're going to get you out of here, Lydia." Laci said as she and Stiles went to work on getting off Lydia's restraints.

"Stiles, he's coming." She warned him.

Laci looked between them and realized how much she'd missed just by looking in Stiles' eyes. It was the way he used to look at her. She would have thought it was sweet if they weren't on such a tight schedule. "Lydia, I'm not leaving you here." Stiles said, glancing between her and the restraint he was working on.

"Neither am I." Laci said, looking up to give her a weak smile.

Lydia had become her best friend over the years. They grew close when she and Allison had their falling out and she was grateful they were friends. She was part of the reason she was able to hold herself together since coming back. She needed her in her life.

"You have to." Lydia said weakly.

Laci and Stiles both tensed at the sound of the door buzzing. Someone was coming, and they weren't going to make it out in time. "Stiles, Laci, go." Lydia said, tears swimming in her eyes. "Please." She begged them.

Stiles looked conflicted, not wanting to leave her behind, but he knew they'd be in bigger trouble if they were caught. He couldn't risk Laci getting hurt because he wasn't strong enough again. With one last look to Lydia, he grabbed Laci's hand and hurried them out of the room. He pulled her through the next set of doors and hid in the side. He gripped her hand tightly as they waited and listened to the footsteps coming closer.

They listened as Lydia and Valak talked. It broke both Stiles and Laci's hearts listening to how broken Lydia sounded. They both heard a door open from the other end of the hall and tensed upon seeing Theo with his pack. They watched as they attacked the doctor. Tracy had him pinned to the wall. "I can't believe this is actually a medicial establishment." Theo said as he took in the sight of Lydia.

"And what would a pack of Chimeras want with a banshee?" Dr Valak asked, looking from Tracy to Theo.

"I don't want a banshee. I'm looking for a hell hound." Theo said.

Laci and Stiles both jumped at the sound of a deep growl. They looked up to see Parrish at the other end of the hall, burning through the door blocking him from the chimeras. "You wanted a hell hound . . . I think you found one." Valak said as the three chimeras went out into the hall to see Parrish melting the door.

An alarm sounded around them, a sound Stiles knew meant they were going into lock down. He glanced back at Laci. This wasn't good. Stiles' head lifted when he heard a famaliar faint roar.

It was Scott.
