The sunlight poured through the crack between the curtains, Jamie opened her eyes and found herself sleeping next to Michael with his arm around her. She slowly stirred; he moved his arm in his sleep, rolling to her side, she faced the window. Her heart raced, she couldn't believe she had been so close to him. Was it the electric shock and the meds letting down her guard? He wasn't hurt and still breathing.
Turning, she watched him breathe as his chest went up and down. Michael kept his promise rescuing her from Wade. Would he understand her fears? Her mind thought back to the case. She stood, went to the bathroom, and a few minutes later, she dug through her duffel bag for her sketchbook and pencils. Once she found them, then she walked to the table.
Letting Michael sleep, Jamie sat there sketching the medicine cabinet Michael and her found. Recalling the information from her memory, she sketched the vial of drugs on the paper. Flipping the page, she drew the vials' labels in a row, hoping she would have more clues, in ended up with more questions. The drugs were met for her and Michael. The logic behind the answer was Michael being drugged, he would provide information on KITT.
Why was KARR involved? Why does the case involved her?
Jamie knew, the Enhance Adrenaline Surge, the military wanted super soldiers of the future.
Something about Wade's men, Jamie closed her eyes, replayed the memory of Wade's men, they moved quickly, their movements were choppy, and robotic; they were stronger than normal, and mentally slow.
"Perhaps, I'm over thinking," she mumbled, placing her sketch book on the table.
"Over thinking about what?" Michael asked, drying his wet hair with a towel.
Jamie glanced up, he wore jeans, his unbutton shirt revealed his wet chest, as her heart quicken. "When did you take a shower?"
He sat down in the chair, said, "I been up for twenty minutes, you were focusing on your sketch. I didn't want to disturb you, so I took a shower."
"When I'm in the zone on a task, I don't notice things when I'm concentrating."
Michael grabbed the drawing off the table, studying for a moment. "Nice work, you captured what was in the cabinet. What are these drugs' purpose?" he asked.
"Thank you. Some of these vials are used to control the mind, for you would reveal information about KITT's systems and other Foundation's classified information. The other drugs are for me, and I'm unsure of their purpose."
"Is this about Enhance Adrenaline Surge?" Michael asked.
"Unfortunately, yes." She toyed with her pencil, calculating if it was the right time spilling her secrets, spinning the pencil.
Sitting straighter, he studied her, stopping the pencil. "You need to tell me soon."
"True," she whispered, staring at him. "Once I explain everything changes."
Michael touched her fingertips, stared at her, and said, "Garth did something to you, and I'm not Garth."
Wiping her eyes, she turned away, once she collected her emotions, looking straight in his eyes. "You need to learn you are nothing like Garth for your soul will depend on it."
Michael sighed and sat, touching her hand. "I'm sorry you've your own past and nightmares too, and we're connected on this case."
Jamie looked up from toying with the pencil, collecting her thoughts. "We are. Was I crying in my sleep?"
He nodded.
"I figured."
"When I laid down you rolled to me, so, I held you, then I fell asleep. I woke one time, you were sleeping on your side of the bed. Later, your cries woke me up, I managed to get you to rolled over, I held you, and then the crying stopped."
"Thank you."
"Let me ask some questions about your past?"
"Okay," she said, raising her right eyebrow.
"Did Garth give you Enhance Adrenaline Surge drug?"
"Yes."
"Is that all you going to explain?" Michael stared at her.
"You don't have enough questions to get the answers you want. Garth tricked me in believing in his lies. I was warned, but I was young and upset with my family and the world. Garth used my anger against me. I was eighteen when I decided to travel with him, Garth imprisoned me for two years and a half. Uncle Wilton and Devon searched and rescue me from Garth and Wilton's wife. During the first year, I was given Enhance Adrenaline Surge, and I learned to play cloak and dagger games because my life depended upon it."
"You mean Garth had you..."
"Yes. I had to overcome the trauma, and learned to make my own decisions. What Garth wanted to use for evil, I use it for good."
"You've given me the short version." Michael stretched in the chair.
Jamie looked at her fingers, and was quietly thinking. "Yes, I've because you're not ready for the rest, and our friendship is still developing." She paused, and said, "there is one important detail you should know."
He sighed. "What is it?"
"Garth trained me to be his operative for the future. I was an experiment, then one day I was rescue."
"I know what Garth is...was capable..."
"You do, but now you're not sure about me. This is why I didn't want..."
"Whoa... I'm thinking how strong and remarkable woman you are, who is sitting across from me. I saw your fear when we found the medical equipment and drugs in the desert. You fought off Wade and his men."
"Jumping out of a moving van," she said, she touched his hand. "You read my file?"
"Did you think Devon wouldn't provide information on you..."
"You played me!" She laughed, grinning. "I didn't see it coming."
"I did. I needed to know what you were willing to tell me on your own," he said.
"Just remember, we both have our secrets for different reasons, we need to trust each other to win the battle," she said.
