Chapter 25 The Battle

The battle was raging and orcs keep coming out of nowhere. Remi and Zarrek were using their powers to fight the orcs. I was covered in orc blood. I slashed the head off an orc and spun meeting another orcs sword.

"They keep coming." Remi said, stabbig an orc as it came at me.

"It won't stop till we cut the head off the snake." I said, looking towards Azog.

"Trolls!" Zarrek called. I looked towards the tunnels and see massive trolls and other monsters coming out. Thranduil shouted for his troops. The elves stop and pull out their bows. A horn blows and I gasp as orcs march towards Dale.

"Zarek. Remi. Go help the men in Dale. I'm going to protect Dain." I said. Remi and Zarrek ran towards Dale with Bard and men. Thranduil rides his elk into the city crossing one of the bridges. I turn and change into my dwarf form as run across the battle field. The dwarves were being driven back. Dwarves were falling left and right as I killed orcs as I went. Dain was riding killing dwarves as an orc shot the war pig dead.

"You buggars!" Dain said. He started killing orcs left and right with his hammer and headbutting orcs. I run towards him. "Where's Thorin?! We need him! Where is he?!"

"Dain!" I call. He turned as I stab an orc through the chest before it could reach Dain.

"You." Dain said.

"I'm Laila, Daughter of Valar, and Fili's one." I said as we fought side by side.

"Why aren't you with the Company?" Dain asked.

"Thorin is consumed by the sickness. He banished me when I tried to save him." I said.

"Its what his sister feared and his nephews for him when they started this quest." Dain said with a sigh. I nod as we continued fighting as the orcs kept coming.

"LET THESE LANDS RUN WITH BLOOD! SLAUGHTER THEM ALL." Azog yelled in the black speech.

"Mahal. We are going to need a miracle." I whisper.

Thorin's POV. It was like my mind was clearing from the sickness from when Laila had grabbed me and tried to heal me. I sat on the throne as memories of what happened during the sickness came back to me.

"What have I done?" I whisper remembering Laila leaving in tears and Fili looking heartbroken. Dwalin approaches me

"Since when do we foresake our own people?" Dwalin said. I never answer him as I looked at my hands. Dwalin comes to a stop in front of me. "Thorin, they are dying out there. Fili is in complete worry for Laila." I stayed silent making Dwalin looked worried. "Did you not hear me?! Dain is surrounded. They're being slaughtered, Thorin!" I looked at him.

"Was I really that bad?" I ask. Dwalin smiled.

"The lass broke ye out of your sickness. We hoped it would, but yes. Fili hasn't stopped pacing since ye told them to stand down." Dwalin said. I got off the throne and look at him.

"Come. We got a battle to win." I said, putting my hand on Dwalin's shoulder as we head towards the gate.

Fili's POV. Battle shouts ran through our ears as I paced. I was so worried for Laila and I hated sitting around doing nothing while she faced certain death. I go to the ramparts and watch. The battle was going bad.

"Fall back! Fall back to the barricade! Fall back!" dain yelled. The dwarves that still survived and Laila turn and run towards the gate. Even though Laila was banished she was still fighting to protect Erebor. I smile knowing she was alive at least. I turn seeing the dwarves sitting around looking sad and unhappy that they couldn't help. Dwalin had gone to knock some sense in Thorin. Thorin appears and approaches us with sword draw. The dwarves stand up and I went down to the floor. He was no longer dressed in his royal robes. Kili stands up

"I will not hide behind a wall of stone, while others fight our battles for us!" Kili said, as he approaches our uncle. "It is not in my blood, Thorin." They stop in front of each other and I slowly approach them. Dwalin was standing behind.

"No, it is not. We are Sons of Durin. And Durin's folf do not flee from a fight." THorin said, laying a hand on Kili's shoulder, smiling. I smile. Laila had broken through the sickness. Kili and Thorin press foreheads together. Thorin turns to the rest of us, but his eyes land on me. I come up to him. "I'm sorry for what I did with Laila. She is strong willed and was trying to save us from the sickness. You still have my blessing to court her." I smile as I hugged him. Fili and I stood at Thorin's side as we turn to face the dwarves. "I have no right to ask this of any of you, but will you follow me. One last time?" The dwarves rise and raise their weapons. I smile as I knew we were finally joining the battle.

Laila's POV. I stood with Dain and the remaining of the dwarves as the dwarves set up a desperate shield wall in front of the moat of Erebor gates. The orcs line up by rank. Remi and Zarrek who came as we were fleeing in their dwarf form stood next to me. Several heavily armored trolls shoulder their way to the front of the orc line. I gripped my sword tightly. A horn blew and the orcs and trolls start marching our way. Another horn sounds from behind us. My brothers and I share looks and I turn to see Bombur standing on top of the wall, blowing a trumpet.

"Thorin." I said. The orcs and trolls stop in confusion. A giant golden statue bursts through the barricade. The rocks fall foward and make a bridge across the moat. The dwares, my brothers and I move to make a path as Thorin came running across the bridge. I smile. Fili saw me and grab my arm so I was running with the Company.

"TO THE KING! TO THE KING!" Dain shouted. With Thorin leading the charge and I was back at Fili's side we charged the orcs and trolls with our weapons raised.

"TO ARMS!" Thorin yelled in dwarvish. I join the yells as we clashed with the orcs. We were going to win this fight after all.
