She wakes up slower the next morning.

How could she not with the warm weight of the woman she loved spooned up behind her. Almost completely naked she was pleased to say with those skilled fingers she'd missed so much drawing lazy patterns along the naked flesh of her hip while Maggie snuggles back into that familiar and comforting embrace.

"Alex." She hums without opening her eyes.

"Maggie." Was the smiled replay into the back of the waking detective's neck. Humm how she missed the way that voice said her name especially this early in the morning, so it still had that sleepy husk of an undertone. "I was almost thinking you'd never come back to me."

Maggie giggles while Alex's lips roamed over the flushed skin of her shoulders from behind. "Ride or Die remember?" she reminds her own hands trailing up and down the arm her love had resting protectively over her stomach. Keeping her close. Keeping her safe. "Ride or Die." Alex echoed her warm breath tickling Maggie's ear as she spoke.

She wanted to turn around. To look at the woman behind her properly but Alex's hold was just too tight holding her hostage while at the same time reminding her that she was protected. Loved.

"Look, Alex….I have to ask you something."

The answering "I'm listening." Against the back of her neck has heat pooling thick and fast and dangerously low in Maggie's belly. Not that it should considering that Alex was with Kelly now not her, but she couldn't help it. This was Alex.

"About….. well about us."

"Us," Alex repeats her breath warm against the back of Maggie's neck as the solid weight of her arms curled even tighter around the detective's middle drawing her back into the waking agent's embrace. "You and me." Maggie nodes before her mind can become too muddled from her close proximity to a barely clothed Alex Danvers.

"Still listening," Alex promises her chin hooking over Maggie's shoulder as the fingers of the arm Alex has slung over her middle lace with her own so the pair could hold hands while they talk.

After a nerve calming breath Maggie starts in. "I will understand if you say no considering Kelly…."

Alex laughs at that making Maggie pause to listen. How she's missed that first thing in the morning breath of a laugh as the body it's coming from vibrates against her back from the motion of it. "Mags come on, given what happened last night and that fact that I'm currently half-naked and quiet contently snuggled up in bed with you. Surly you can use those sexy as hell detecting skills to know that Kelly and I are over."

Again, Maggie tries to turn around needing to see her face before she allowed herself even the slightest possibility to begin to hope. Alex seemed to have other ideas and the instant Maggie started to move so did she. No matter what way Maggie tried to move Alex was always ready to counter. "Just give up Mags it will be a lot easier." Alex teases.

Maggie's body betrays her instantly relaxing and shuddering against the body aligned once again along every curve of her own from behind as the suggestion was kissed into the curve of her shoulder. Dammit, she forgot how much she used to hate when Alex used her weak spots against her like this.

"Come on baby don't pout." Alex pleads and just hearing the sulk in her voice has Maggie's heart aching in her chest as her hand reaches back to thread in Alex's hair while her lips press against the dip of Maggie's shoulder before she speaks, "Just for right now let me be protector spoon to your baby spoon."

Her hand in Alex's hair tightens holding her in place a few seconds more and yet she can't seem to bring herself to continue her original goal of asking for another chance. She can't stand it if Alex grants her wish only to come to regret it later. After all she'd already given her one only to end up being replaced with the idea of Alex wanting to be a mother. No way could she take that pain a second time. So instead she goes for another rout.

"You still have this?" she didn't need to look to know that adorable crinkle was making an appearance on her brow, so Maggie kept talking. Trying to explain the change in her tactic as her fingers continue playing with the slivery blue band sitting proudly around that important finger connected to the hand slung around her middle. "I mean I know I left them with you when we ended things, but I'd have thought you'd you know get rid of them at some point."

Seeing the ring back on Alex's finger the sight alone was enough to almost trick Maggie into believing that all this. Checkmate kidnapping her to use as their lab rat. Her and Alex's final engagement ending break up. All that time being apart from the woman she loved would end up being some horrible nightmare.

The head nestled against her shoulder shakes in denial "I could never Maggie." Alex says as her hands slide into Maggie's hair. What Alex's fascination with her hair was a mystery that Maggie had yet to solve. It was just something cute that was so Alex it hurt. "I have yours with me too. All the time." She smiles hugging herself closer along the smaller woman's back bringing the soft slide of metal against metal to her ears. A necklace maybe.

But since when does Alex where jewelry to bed?

"It's my good luck charm. My strength."

Again, Maggie tries to roll onto her other side so they could face one another and again Alex stops her continuing to play her protector as they lay spooned together under the covers. "You don't need some worthless trinket to make you strong Danvers."

After all wasn't, she the one always saying that not all heroes had to have capes?

That earned a hard scratch of short nails scraping over her stomach just under her bellybutton making Maggie moan a little as Alex tugs her back even closer into the half-circle of her arms her mouth hot against Maggie's ear when she talks. "Nothing that holds memories of us should ever be put into the same breath as worthless Margaret Sawyer."

Humm regardless of how scrambled her mind was Maggie knows she will never be able to forget how much of a turn on Alex's voice was when she talked in 'agent mode' or in this case she guesses it was more 'Director mode'. Especially when those growled comforting words are being kissed into her hair, down the curve of her ear, over the side of her jaw as Alex finally allows Maggie to move as her lips continue their trip toward her own

Yeap getting to wake up in Alex Danvers's arms definitely was the best thing ever apart from meeting her in the first place and getting to fall even more in love with her.

That is until Maggie's eyes open once Alex's strong arms tug her so she could straddle her waist while Alex once again nuzzles her forehead against her own.

Empty.

Alex's face was completely empty. No distinct features at all. Not her eyes, her mouth, her nose, the style or color of her hair. Nothing. Hell, Maggie couldn't even remember now if Alex's ears were pierced and considering the blank-slate version of Alex she was now looking at didn't even have ears for her to tell or not.

"Morning Mags." The mouthless, faceless shell of Alex purrs a smile Maggie can no longer see in her tone as her nimble fingers twist into her hair.

Linda is at her door a full half of a second later after Maggie's fearful scream hits the air as she sits up in the tangled mess of the blanket with Aroura cautiously crawling up the bed into her lap to start licking away her tears only for more to follow in their place as Maggie curls around her sobbing into her scruff.

She'd been so hopeful as she closed her eyes bathed in at least the intoxicating mix of gunpowder and a beachside breeze both blended with the warm vanilla and fruity scent of her ex's new shampoo choice foolishly thinking that the scent alone would be enough to chase away her worries yet what other choice did she have when the lady herself was still worryingly absent for her homecoming?

Linda rocks them back and forth in a slow rhythm while she soothes Maggie's wild nightmare tangled hair down leaving little brushes of her lips against Maggie's hairline.

Kara and Katie stand shoulder to shoulder at the end of the bed both of them on alert as the rest of her little blend of a chosen family crowed into the doorway now including the Flash himself sporting disheveled pjs and bed tousled hair along with the cute DEO agent Rory had tugged over to her by her pant leg earlier in the day only for said cute agent to end up collapsing into an adorable crying mess in Maggie's arms peeking in around him to check on her.

"They finally did it." The cop in her arms rasped hiding her face against Linda's strong frame so her words were harder to understand "They finally…" she chocks off unable to say the words a second time much less think them. Either of those things will make the meaning behind them all the more real. More permanent.

"Oh, Maggie." It catches her off guard a little when Alura rather than Eliza or Kara takes up a position on Maggie's other side her hand against the shaking woman's back until Maggie turns throwing her arms around the Kryptonian mother's neck when a new wave of tears and sobs rack her small frame.

"Kara. Her journal. Please." Linda's heavily accented voice was just barely audible over the sound of Maggie's sobs.

The cute DEO agent was the closest to the safe Lin had stored her backpack. The one that holds her journals.

As cheesy and teenaged as that sounded, in the beginning, the small notebook collection the pack held had quickly become an outlet for not only to release her anger and confusion over what was currently happening in her life but also a physical reminder on anything and everything she could pull from her broken mind on the woman she loved.

Page after page of sappy little love notes, memories, feelings. Something that Maggie was beyond grateful for it now considering she was running on empty other than a faceless voice in her head and an empty painful longing in her chest every time she thought that beautiful name.

Alex Danvers.

But the idea of anyone besides herself, Kara or Linda sifting in its depths even for a few seconds had Maggie's blood boiling and her hand closing around the grip of the gun she'd hidden under her pillow whilst the agent so calmly keyed in the code that would open the door to all of Maggie's most closely guarded secrets.

Something Maggie wasn't about to let happen. She'd already lost so much when it came to Alex, she wasn't about to let herself lose anymore by sharing what little she had left of her former fiancée no matter how attractive said agent was.

The comforting hum of Alex's gun in her hand calms as for a brief moment soft hazel eyes lock onto Maggie's cold chocolate brown ones right before she fires her only warning shot.
