Chapter 22

"I think we got one life, one chance and what we do with it is up to us." -

Hours Later

The Scott Mansion

"I am in shock that you actually went along with this whole thing. And left Rachel to rot in prison. I could be proud but i'm not at all. It's humilating Nathan. For god sake she's you're wife does that mean nothing! And who exactly did you let go of her for.?" Dan Scott questioned.

Nathan narrowed his gaze at his father. His eyes wide. He simply laughed. "Are you seriously trying to lecture me about what to do and not in a marriage.? Dad let's not go there. I was miserable. Rachel is murderer and is serving her life sentence as she should. Rachel is my ex wife. I'm single have been for months." He said. Looking to his father.

"I never liked Rachel. She was mean, rude, and never came for holidays or birthdays. I loved Haley. Now that is the girl you should of ended up with. She was like the daughter i never had what happened between the two of you.?" Deb asked.

"Shut up Deb this conversation doesn't concern you!" Dan yelled.

Deb narrowed her gaze at her husband. "Actually it does concern me. Nathan is my son too. Watch how you talk to me. I'm not one of you're mindless girlfriends. Who are impressed by you're power and status. In case you haven't realized it yet. I'm divorcing you. I've been sober for 6 months. You didn't care to notice."

"You keep the house. You need it. I don't need it or you. The papers are in you're office. Only missing you're signature. I'll leave in a few days." Deb announced.

Nathan was stunned. He had never felt so happy and proud for his mother.

"Mom that is huge. All these changes you are making. Just me tell what i can do to help and i will." Nathan said.

Deb smiled. Putting her hand on his. "Help me pack up my stuff. My new place is short drive away." She said.

"Sure i'll be here. Just text me a date and time." Nathan said.

Haley watched him sleep for awhile. Before she got out of bed. Took her towel off the closet door and went into the bathroom. Closed the door.

She got into the shower. Turned on the water. And cleared her mind as she lathered soap on her body and cleaned the past off her once and for all.

Haley was done chasing ghosts of the past. Chris was her future. Nathan was her past.

The couple at last conquered the last piece of their painful history. Which was going into Morgan's nursery.

Chris lead the way. Taking Haley's hand in his.

She closed the door. And walked further into the room.

The walls were painted purple the ceiling pink. The crib, changing table, and closet all untouched.

"We should donate it to mothers in need with children." Haley said.

"I couldn't think of a better way to honor her. This is why i don't want anymore kids. I cannot go through loving someone so much just to lose them again." Chris announced.

Haley was left reeling from that announcement alone. Only to be shocked a later admission by Chris. That he planned to get a vasectomy done. Which would gurantee him being unable to produce children.

Awhile Later

After the longest goodbye. Haley finally let Chris go from her arms. Tears spilling from her eyes. He had put his career on hold for the entire year while she was getting treatment. His manager told him a tour had to happen. In order for his career not to be lost forever.

Haley more then understood even helped him pack. And dropped him off at the airport even though he was willing to just get a ride service or drive himself.

Chris would be gone for 6 months. Haley knew without a doubt she would miss him. But she needed space and time to process and think if a life without children was what she wanted.

Before she could get too comfortable and settled with having the home to herself. She heard knocking at the front door.

Haley rushed over and opened the door.

"Nathan. What are you. How can i. Why are you here.?" Haley asked.

"I just wanted to apologize to you're face about everything you and Chris went through because of Rachel and myself. Neither of you deserved to go through that. Nothing i say or do will make that right. I hope one day you can forgive me for yourself."

"Happy birthday. Did you really think i forgot.?" Nathan asked. With a smile. Before he turned from her and left the home.

Haley went back inside and closed the door behind herself.
