That week at work, Emily acted different around everyone. She wasn't her normal snarky and sarcastic self. Instead, she was serious and professional with all the members of the team. The reason for that was because she was contemplating going back to London. She knew her sudden departure would raise red flags, but she couldn't stand not being able to do anything about the whole Sophia situation. Prentiss wanted to leave before she got too close with her kid and before any more feelings got hurt.

That Friday once everyone went home, Emily went up to Hotch's office and told him she was planning on heading back to London soon. Of course he was surprised and asked why. She told him she was behind on a lot of work and that they needed her back there.

By the following Monday, the news got around that Emily was once again leaving. Sophia went to the office after school and when she found out, she was shocked.

"Where's Emily?!" she demanded to know.

"Lastly I saw, she was in Hotch's office," JJ replied dryly.

Sophia caught that and asked,

"What's been going on between you two?"

"What do you mean?" the blonde asked.

"It just seems like you're always mad at each other now," the child pointed out.

JJ sighed. Sophia was right. Whenever they were in the same room together there was tension and everyone in the room with them could sense it as well.

"Sweetie there's nothing going on between us, we're both just stressed out over all our work we have," JJ lied and gave Sophia a reassuring smile.

Just when she did, Emily walked out of Hotch's office and closed the door. When she looked up, she spotted Sophia by JJ's desk. Instead of going over to talk to her like she usually did, Prentiss went over to her desk area and sat down without saying a word.

Sophia was furious.

She hated being given the silent treatment and being ignored. Instantly, she marched right on over to Emily's desk.

"Hey-" Prentiss started to say.

"What's wrong with you?" the twelve year old was dying to know.

"Nothing," Emily replied with a smile.

"JJ said the same thing, but I know you're both lying. Something's going on and no one will tell me!" the girl stated.

Emily just shrugged.

"Why are you going back to London then?" Sophia questioned.

"My people need me," Prentiss replied with.

"You're really leaving?" Sophia wanted to make sure.

"I'm really leaving," Emily said back.

She could tell Sophia was disappointed and she felt bad.

"So when do you go back?" the girl wanted to know.

"I got a flight back for Saturday-"

"That soon?" Sophia asked and cut Emily off.

"Sophia, it's not a big deal," Emily tried to tell her.

"Well to me it is," the kid told her.

"And why is that?" Emily asked back.

"Ugh, you just don't get it," Sophia sighed and turned to walk back over to JJ's.

Emily quickly stood up and lightly placed a hand on the child's arm to turn her around.

"Hey," she said softly.

When Sophia turned around, Emily could tell how sad the girl looked and how it was already too late for her to leave without hurting her feelings.

They've only known each other for a month, but in that month they spent so much time together and Sophia started to see Emily as someone she could trust and go to for anything. They created a bond that was stronger than any Sophia had ever had with anyone before. The two had so much in common and Sophia was drawn to Emily for a reason that only made sense to some.

Prentiss pulled Sophia into a hug and whispered,

"I'll only be a phone call away. You can always text me or call, you know that."

"Yeah, but it's not the same," Sophia told her.

Emily pulled back and looked into her daughter's eyes when she said,

"I know, and I'm sorry, but right now it's the best I can do."

The girl nodded and said,

"Will you come back for my birthday at least?"

Without thinking, Emily replied with,

"Sophia your birthday's in like four days, I'll still be here-"

"My birthday is in February," the child corrected her.

"No, it's January 13th, that's Friday," Emily said, still not understanding that the child doesn't know her real birthday.

"Emily, I think I know when my birthday is. It's February, 26th."

Thats when it hit her.

"Oh, right sorry I must've gotten your birthday mixed up with someone else's, sorry," Prentiss said quickly.

Sophia arched an eyebrow at the women quizzically.

"How about this. This Friday we go out to dinner and celebrate your birthday early?" Emily offered.

"Who's we?" Sophia wanted to know.

"Whoever. The whole team can come," Prentiss said.

"Deal," Sophia replied and gave Emily a small smile.

Throughout the week, Emily packed up most of the clothes she had and sent it back to London so all she would have to bring on the plane was a small luggage and her carry on. The week flew by and it was already Friday. The team agreed to meet up at a restaurant at six for dinner that night as a birthday celebration for Sophia and farewell to Emily.

Dinner went great. Everyone had a blast and no one brought up the fact that it was Emily's last night with them. Prentiss was glad she got to celebrate her daughter's birthday with her on her actual birthday. The last time she was able to do that was when Sophia turned two. Now, Sophia turned thirteen and Emily was officially the mother of a teenager, which kind of scared her to be honest.

After dinner, the team was walking out and back to their cars, which were down the road.

"Henry, hold on to Daddy's hand," JJ warned as they crossed the street. The little boy listened and smiled up at his father.

Sophia ran up to her mother and yelled back to JJ,

"I'm walking with Emily."

"Okay," JJ called.

Prentiss turned around and gave JJ a smile.

"I got her," Prentiss said.

Then she looked down at her beautiful daughter and smiled.

Their cars were all just a few blocks away.

"Emily?" Sophia asked softly.

The women looked down.

"Please don't leave tomorrow," the child begged.

"Sophia, we've gone over this a thousand times this week," Prentiss told her.

"I know," the kid replied with a sigh.

"It was worth a try," she added and looked down.

Reid, who was also sad about Emily leaving fell back and started talking to her about something he wanted her opinion on.

There was a group of women in front of the team walking.

A gust of wind swept around them and took one of the woman's gloves out of her purse. It landed in the road to the side.

No one saw because they were all busy talking.

No one, but Sophia.

The lady didn't notice, so Sophia thought it would be nice of her to go get it for the woman.

She cautiously looked both ways before stepping into the street to get the glove.

From that point on, it seemed as if everything happened in slow motion.

As Sophia bent down to get the glove, a car came whirling down the street straight for her. JJ noticed it first and yelled to the child. Emily heard and looked next to her to see her daughter missing. Then she looked into the road just to see her little girl get hit by a car going like 60mph.

Right before Sophia got hit, she made eye contact with her mother and she could've sworn she saw her life flash before her eyes. Prentiss screamed toward Sophia and ran into the road herself.

However she was too late and she witnessed her child get hit by a car and thrown further down the road.

The driver then crashed into a street lamp.

Instantly the whole team sprinted toward the child and Hotch made his way to the driver as well as Dave.

The group in front of them were shocked as well and one woman called nine one one. They all rushed over to the girl.

Emily made it to Sophia first.

The child was barely breathing and she was unconscious.

"Sophia," Emily said softly and knelt down.

"I called nine one one. They're on their way," one of the women said.

"Thank you," JJ said.

Will and her boys were still standing by the side walk with Garcia. However as JJ turned around, she shook her head, telling them not to come over.

The girl had cuts and scrapes on her head and a huge bruise forming. Her head was bloody and her arms and legs looked bad as well. Emily brushed the hair out of her face and bent down and whispered,

"Please wake up. I need to see your beautiful eyes. Sophia, just open your eyes for me."

As if she could hear her, Sophia's eyes shot open and she took in a huge gulp of air.

Prentiss closed her eyes and sighed.

"What happened? Why am I laying down?" She asked confused.

"You were hit," Emily said softly.

"What, no. I'm fine," Sophia said and tried getting up.

She failed and her head instantly slammed back down on the cement.

"Ahh," she cried and squeezed her eyes.

"Shhhh, just stay still and keep your eyes on me. Just focus on me," Emily told her as she took off her jacket and laid it under the girls head.

"Emily," Sophia whispered.

"I'm right here," Prentiss said and held her hand.

"I can't breathe," the child told her and started wheezing.

"The ambulance is almost here," JJ said as she could see the lights in the distance.

"Emily it hurts-" the kid started to whisper.

Suddenly, Sophia jerked a little and her eyes rolled back into her head and Emily felt her hand drop.

The older brunette started to freak out. She realized her daughter stopped breathing and she couldn't find a pulse.

Instantly, she started cpr.

As she pumped her daughter's heart, tears flooded her vision.

"Wake up!" she screamed.

"Emily," JJ whispered.

"No. She does not get to die. I just got her back and I'm not losing her," Emily screamed and continued to work on her child.

"Sophia please!" Emily begged.

Just then, the sirens could be heard and the ambulance was in view.

"Thank God," Prentiss sighed.

A minute later, the EMTs were trying to get Emily to stop and move. Morgan had to forcefully pick Emily up and take her away from her daughter.

Emily screamed and kicked and punched. She hit Derek in the face but he kept his grip on her. Rossi walked over and helped Morgan hold Emily back. Emily then turned and completely fell into Rossi, letting go of Derek.

Emily turned her head to see the EMTs get the defibrillator out and start shocking the hell out of Sophia's little body.

"Charge 300," one said.

They shocked her once.

Nothing.

Again.

Nothing.

But on the third time, the girls eyes opened and she gasped for air.

Instantly she was confused. She felt pain everywhere and didn't see a familiar face.

Just then, JJ's face came into her field of view and Sophia was relived to see her. The EMTs loaded Sophia up into the ambulance with JJ and rushed her to the hospital with everyone close behind. Sophia coded in the ambulance and the EMTs were having a hard time stabilizing her.

Sophia still wasn't conscious when they arrived at the hospital and the worst part was when they took her in and JJ could not go back there.

Morgan and Will followed the ambulance and had to restrain JJ from following the doctors.

They were stuck in the waiting room.

An hour passed and nothing new happened. Will went home with the boys and Garcia and Emily showed up. Then Hotch and Rossi showed up.

"What's the deal with the driver?" JJ wanted to know.

"He was drunk. He ran through a red light and then hit Sophia at 50mph. The police took him away."

"He was drunk?" Prentiss asked she kind of growled.

"Emily, he's taken care of," Rossi assured her.

"I swear if Sophia doesn't make it, I will hunt him down and-"

"She's going to pull through," Garcia said in a positive tone.

"She coded in the ambulance again. I honestly don't know how much her heart can take," JJ said.

There was a silence then Emily said lowly,

"It took one second."

"What?" JJ asked.

"I took my eyes off of her for one second and she got hit by a car."

Prentiss sat back and sighed.

"Emily, you couldn't have known she was going to run into the road."

Prentiss sniffled and closed her eyes.

Just then, a doctor with a lot of blood on his shirt and gloves rushed into the waiting room.

"Where's Jennifer Jareau?"

JJ stood up.

"It says here that you're Sophia legal guardian. Are you by any chance her mother?"

"No, not biological, why?"

"Sophia is losing a lot of blood right now. We tried a blood transfusion but her body is rejecting the blood we've given her."

"What blood type is she?"

"O negative."

"Of course she's the rarest type," JJ muttered.

"Are you in contact with her birth parents by any chance. Could they come here quickly to donate. She's running out of time and if we don't get her blood in the next hour she's going to bleed out," the doctor explained.

Everyone could hear their conversation. JJ looked back at her team and knew Emily was exactly who the doctor was talking about.

"Em," she said softly.

The brunette stood up.

"I can donate. I'm O negative."

"It can't just be anyone. We tried giving her the O neg we have and her body rejected it. It needs to be from a relative."

"Well you're in luck. I happen to be her birth mother," Emily informed the doctor, leaving the rest of her team with their jaws dropped.

"Yes that would work. I just need your verbal consent right now. You can sign the documents later," The doctor said to JJ.

"You have my consent," JJ said.

"Perfect," the doctor said and led Emily back so he could take her blood.

After they left, JJ was left with a shocked Morgan, Reid and Hotch to deal with.
