Chapter 25: Hunting

Nessie's POV

"I still don't understand why you didn't tell me anything. I thought we were sisters. We always tell each other everything," Lisa complained.

"Would you have really believed me if I'd told you that we were both kidnapped and had our memories wiped as young children? What would you have believed me if I told you the Cullens really were vampires and that I was half vampire myself?"

"You're right I wouldn've told you that you were crazy and that you needed help. I didn't believe it at first when they told me. Until they demonstrated their speed and strength. Edward's mind reading really freaks me out to," she laughed.

I adjusted Jr. in my arms slightly as he continued to drink the human blood that filled his baby bottle. Last night we'd discovered two more things about my son. Jr. got thirsty the same way I and my vampire family did. The second that we'd discovered is that he was also venomous. He'd gotten angry and bitten Carlisle when he took some blood for testing. The bite had stung my grandfather and left a tiny half moon shaped mark. So Carlisle took some samples and found out his saliva was pure vampire venom.

It was a good thing he'd never bitten any of the human doctors at the hospital. If not we would have had another problem on our hands. He truly was a unique baby. His wolf and vampire traits were strong. He refused to drink animal blood. We'd given him animal blood when first realized he was thirsty. He immediately spat it out. So we very reluctantly decided to give him human blood instead.

"I can't believe you're letting him drink that," Lisa wrinkled her nose in disgust.

"Well it's not like I have much of a choice. He won't drink animal blood and he's thirsty,"

"How can you be okay with that?"

"It's donated blood from the blood bank. Nobody died for it,"

"I understand that but what happens when he decides to attack a human. What happens if he can't control himself? I mean you said it yourself earlier. You had a hard time controlling yourself when you smelled human blood. The only reason you stopped was because of Carlisle. Jacob Jr. is only a baby. What if he loses control?"

"We have to keep an eye on him until he gets older and learns how to control himself,"

"What if he doesn't want to control himself?"

I sighed. "He will want to. We'll teach our family values. We will teach him right from wrong. Just like normal human parents teach their kids right from wrong," I was starting to get irritated with my sister. Did she really think we'd allow Jr. to become some kind of monster?

"Nessie can you come here for a second?" I heard dad's voice from the hallway.

I got up and left without saying another word to my sister. Maybe it was the post pregnancy hormones but I was highly irritable right now.

"Yes dad?"

"Take it easy on your sister. She's still so new to all of this. She's mainly concerned with her and her daughter's safety. Especially her daughter's safety. Try seeing things from her perspective. She's a human who has suddenly been thrown into a world full of vampires and werewolves and crossbreeds. It's all bit overwhelming and scary to her. Surely you can understand her being worried about safety? Especially when it concerns her own baby?"

I looked at my own baby and nodded in agreement. When he'd put it that way it made perfect sense. Had things been reversed and Jr. and I were the normal humans I would've been the same way.

"I knew you'd understand sweetie,"

"Hey dad can I ask you something?"

"You just did but sure. Ask me anything?"

"Is she still thinking of giving up her baby for adoption?" Now that my son had imprinted on her daughter I was terrified of what the separation would do to him. Jacob had explained what it had been like for him when he was apart from me all those years. If it weren't for my family he wouldn't have had the strength to go on. What would that pain do to a baby? I looked at my little Jacob and couldn't imagine him suffering like that.

"As soon as her baby is strong enough to survive on her own she wants to give her away for adoption. The father wants nothing to do with the baby and she feels this is the best option,"

A lump formed in my throat. Couldn't Rose and Emmett adopt her? That way I wouldn't lose my niece or my son lose his imprint?

A smile crossed my dad's face. "Even if Rose and Emmett were to turn down that idea, which I highly doubt they would, your mother and I would also love to adopt that little girl. It's actually something we've been considering lately,"

"Wait? What?" How did I miss that news?!

"It was your mother's idea. She wants another baby and who am I to deny her what she wants? So if Rose and Em do decide to adopt that girl we'll probably just adopt another baby of our own soon afterwards,"

"I think that would be great dad. You and mom deserve to have everything you want,"

"Thank you Nessie," he gave me a big hug.

"Oh and dad?"

"Yes?"

"I hope you don't mind but I've been feeling a little thirsty all day. I'm going to go hunting in a little while,"

"Ness I don't think that's a good idea with everything going on,"

"I swear I won't stray to far into the forest. I'll be back within the hour,"

"When will you go?" he asked.

"Soon. I'll just put Jr. down for his nap first,"

"Okay just...be safe Nessie,"

"Sure will dad,"

Jacob Jr. already had his own room. My family had already gotten his room all setup for his arrival. It was painted a beautiful baby blue color. There was a crib on one side. The closet was full of things like baby clothes, diapers, and wipes. There were toys everywhere. Stuffed animals of every variety, rattles, a rocking horse. My family sure had gone all out.

It didn't take too long for him to fall asleep. I gently placed him in his crib. I opened his window for fresh air. I left right after that and headed straight for the forest. I sniffed the air for an animal to hunt. I remembered the first time I did this after coming to live with the Cullens. My dad had taken me out with him and showed me how to hunt. We'd gone hunting several times after that. It was weird since I was used to hunting with dogs and a gun.

I felt a pang in my heart when I thought of my dogs. I missed Trusty and Copper so much. They'd survived the accident but were still living with my parents. Who I hadn't seen in months. I caught the scent of a deer nearby and chased after it quickly. I pounced on the animal and drained it quickly.

I heard a strange noise behind me and jumped. I looked for danger but instead found a very small red brown wolf pup. My little mini Jacob. He must've woken up and noticed that I wasn't there. But how had he gotten out of the crib? If he did it as a baby that meant he'd had even more advanced motor skills than any of us could've guessed. He must've gotten out the open window to. Which probably meant nobody knew he was gone.

"Does daddy know you're here?" Why was I asking him when he probably didn't even understand me? To my shock he nodded his head no in response. I guess nothing should shock me anymore but it still does.

Why hadn't Jacob or the rest of my family noticed he was gone? It was probably because they were so busy discussing what to do next with Jacob's pack that they totally missed this. They'd been talking all day. Jacob's pack were nice people. Seth seemed like the most easy going. I was surprised to discover that Leah was the only female shapeshifter to date. It never ceased to amaze me when I learned more about Jacob's species.

I sighed. "Just stay close to me baby,"

He yipped happily and ran out of sight. But I could hear him close by as I continued to hunt. I found another deer and then a mountain lion. As soon as I finished with the mountain lion I saw Jr. running toward me with a dead rabbit in his mouth. The rabbits blood dripped from my baby's mouth. He looked quite proud of himself as he dropped the animal right in front of me. He bit into the animal's flesh and started eating.

"Well look at this,"

I didn't recognize the voice but it sent chills down my spine. I instantly grabbed my baby and held him tight.

"Oh that's quite the interesting little creature you have there,"

"Who are you?"

"Oh don't you recognize me Nessie?" A girl stepped out from behind a tree. She was as pale as my family now and had horrific red eyes but I recognized her.

"Amy?"

"Oh so you do recognize me?" she took a few steps forward. My son was so scared that he was shaking in my arms.

I tried to run the opposite direction but then another pale skin, red eyes girl appeared. It was her friend Emily. I started going right but then another newly turned vampire appeared. Amy's other fiend Leila.

Now I was really panicking. I couldn't take on one full vampire let alone three. "How-"

"How did we become vampires you ask? Oh wouldn't you like to know you freakish little halfbreed. Unfortunately you're never going to find out. To bad for you we didn't get arrested like you hoped we would. We disappeared as soon we knew the cops were looking for us. Wouldn't you like the full story of who found us and why we were turned? "

"Leave us alone," my voice sounded weak even to myself.

They all laughed. "Oh killing you and that stupid creature you're attached to will be so much fun,"

There was no escape. We were outnumbered. Jacob Jr. started howling loud and desperately over and over again. I recalled what little knowledge I had of wolf behavior. Howling was a way to get the rest of the pack's attention when a wolf gets separated from the rest of the pack. It was a way to let the other wolves know where he was. He was calling to his packmates. To Jacob.

They were closing in on us from all sides. It was too late.
