The Avengers, both old and new (except Rhodey who had been called away on business), were all sitting together on the couch in the large living room. It was a clear-skied Friday and the sun shone brightly through the large windows illuminating the room and giving a sense of joy to it. The TV was playing in the background, though most people weren't watching it and were instead having their own small conversations with the person next to them.
"This is nice, it is a beautiful day," Wanda said, her thick accent dripping from her words as she sat crossed-legged on the floor, leaning her back on the couch next to Nat.
"Yeah, it's great to have some days like this, I vote we try to avoid invading aliens or murder bots for a while, least just have more days like this. Nice and q-"
Sam was quickly cute of by Clint and Peter yelling "NO" and Nat giving him a stern look. Everyone was caught by surprise at the sudden outbreak. Sam looked quizzing at the 3, his face giving off a look of confusion before asking, "What?"
"Don't say the 'q' word!" Clint supplied like it answered Sam's question entirely.
"What? Quiet?" Sam questioned. Clint gave a gasp at the word, his hands covering his mouth in a joking shock.
"It's a thing at SHIELD. If you say the 'q' word, something bad will happen," Peter supplied, filling in the gaps of what Clint hadn't explained to the non-shield agents in the team.
"It's just superstation but lots of agents are wary about it. Especially Clint after Budapest," Nat said, looking up from a book she was previously reading.
"And you said it," Clint said, gesturing to Sam with an open palm "So now something bad is going to happen. Uhhh and it was such a nice day too," Clint complained as Nat gave him a mocking consoling look. The group laughed at the pout Clint gave of at this. After the laughter had finally died down Tony spoke up.
"Well this has been nice and all but I will be in my lab if anyone needs me. Pete, you want to come?" Tony questioned, as he stood up from the couch and looked over at Peter who was sitting next to Bucky.
"Sure," Peter replied, also getting up from his spot. The two bid the group Farwell and headed down to Tony's lab.
The lab itself was quite large and not dissimilar to the one Peter had at SHIELD. I was nice to be able to work it one again, he hadn't been able to since he came to stay with the avengers. The familiarity was comforting.
"You got something you want to work on, spider-kid," Tony asked.
Peter rolled his eyes at the nickname before responding, "I was going to work on some new web fluid designs if that's okay." Peter knew he didn't need permission to make his web fluid but a little politeness never hurt anyone.
"Sure kid, you remember where the chemicals were. Call me if you need help," He said, gesturing to the chemicals general direction, before making his way over to a disassembled ironman armour he had on a workbench.
Wasting no time, Peter got to work trying different combinations and trying to create different densities.
He had out some toluene, in his previous fluid, he had been adding too much, causing the consistency to vary and sometimes become a little watery. Peter carefully measured it out, making sure he didn't add too much.
Peter went to collect the rest of his normal ingredients:
Methanol
Potassium carbonate
Salicylic acid
Carbon tetrachloride
Sodium tetraborate
Among other things and began testing different amounts. He had been working on creating a way for the webbing to be thinner while still holding the same weight while and SHIELD so decided to continue his work here with Tony.
The pair worked silently on their own projects, occasionally stopping to ask for each other opinions but mostly the room was quiet. Until FRIDAY's voice came over the intercom.
"Boss, a transmission is trying to connect with the tower, shall I connect them?"
Tony and Peter looked at each other confused, who was trying to contact them? Why?
"Who is it FRIDAY?" Tony questioned as he put down his wrench and bean wiping his hands clean of oil. Peter had begun to take off his safety goggles while Tony spoke.
"Unclean sir, it is an unknown signature and I am unable to determine the location on the sender. All I have found is that they are outside the earth's atmosphere," At the Tony and peter's confusing intensified. So it was an alien?
"FRIDAY keep trying to track them, let them through but keep checking their feed for viruses, for all we know it is some kids playing a prank," Tony said as he walked over to the screens in his lab, peter following behind him.
"Yes Boss, connecting now," FRIDAY's Irish voice said through the silence of the lab. The room was quiet for a few moments before a voice came through the speakers…
"Man of Iron? It is I, Thor. It has been many months since we have spoken," Thor's booming voice rang through the speakers, full of joy and relief. Then, a small voice could be heard.
"Tony?" Said voice asked. Tony's face was in pure shock, unsure what to say except for:
"Bruce?"
Oh, peter thought, this was Bruce banner. The hulk. It took all of peter's strength not to geek out about talking to Bruce Banner. Despite all odds, he keeps it in.
"Hey Tony, long time no see," Bruce half-heartedly joked.
"Yeah, a lot has happened Brucie bear, where have you been?" Tony asked as he sat down in the chair he had next to his desk.
"It's a long story, but we need some help."
