"Thank you," Edgeshot rubbed at his shoulder, looking exhausted. He was covered in dirt, small tears littering his hero costume. "I was very… disappointed when I realized I would have to cancel this after the earthquake hit. You helped save many lives today and you also made sure I could speak out about something important to me. I owe you a lot, Hawks."

"Hey, don't worry about it," Hawks shrugged, smiling easily. "Glad I could help. Thanks for letting me be a part of this, it's going to help a lot of people."

"It is," Edgeshot's eyes softened as he looked at his hands. "I hope it's a start to something."

Hawks tilted his head, watching him. He made a mental note to look into the organization Edgeshot was backing to fund the rehabilitation centers. If it was truly legit he'd set up a monthly donation to it. It wasn't like he was using his money for much else and the Commission paid him far more than he'd ever spend.

"I think," Hawks started to grin, throwing his hands behind his head and letting his wings stretch out a little, "that after all that we deserve some food! Know any good chicken places around here?"

-00-

"Dibs on the highest room!" Hawks zoomed through the door, duffle bag flying behind him.

"Not if it has the best view!" Nemuri refuted, rushing after him.

"If it's facing away from the morning sun it's mine!" Hizashi war cried, tripping over his feet in his haste to beat them.

Aizawa dropped his bag on the steps, sitting down to wait out the chaos.

Thirteen laughed at her coworkers. "Do you have a room preference Aizawa-kun?"

"The furthest one away from those idiots," Aizawa grunted, closing his eyes for a quick nap.

Nezu chuckled, folding his hands behind his back. He already knew who would pick what room, and he doubted Aizawa's friends would let him get out of sharing the top floor with them.

"Well, I'll let you all get settled in today," he hopped down the steps. "The students are moving in next week, I've emailed everyone the schedule. Please make sure to look at it later."

Snipe nodded, grabbing his bag from Cementoss with a thanks.

"This is quite lovely," Yagi looked up at the building with a small smile. "You did a wonderful job Ishiyama-kun."

Cementoss looked pleased. "Thank you. Let me know if you would like any changes added to your room, I can-"

"Cementoss!" Hawks yelled, jumping out of a top floor window and plummeting down towards them. He beat his wings quickly, catching himself in time to settle nicely on the ground instead of smacking into it. "How'd you know which room I would pick?!"

Cementoss pressed his hands together, smiling brightly. "Does this mean you like it?"

"Dude, you made me an open ceilinged roost. Guys, he made a whole section of my roof clear glass and there's a roost with a little desk sticking out of the wall so I can perch and work!"

"I'm glad you like it," Cementoss turned to his car to pull out his suitcase and bag. "I have a friend with an avian quirk and she has something similar in her home. She also likes high places so I assumed you would pick the room at the tallest point in the building."

Hawks' wings were still flapping behind him, a clear sign of his happy mood. "You'll have to tell her thanks for me, I love it. Hizashi's freaking out about the soundboards he found in his room. You really planned all this out, huh?"

There was a curious glint in his eyes.

"I didn't do much," Cementoss said modestly. "The majority of the planning was done by Principal Nezu. He told me which rooms each of you would pick and ordered things that would make you all feel more at home."

"Ah," Hawks nodded, tapping at his chin thoughtfully. "That would explain the picture."

"Picture?" Cementoss didn't remember there being any pictures in Hawks' room when he did the final safety checks the other day.

Hawks laughed. "There's this really fancy, giant picture of Nezu right inside the door. Golden framed, sparkly as hell, and looks like it came from the victorian era. I'm guessing this is his revenge for the Cheeto sculpture I made him."

Snipe, who had been halfway through the front door, paused to step back and stare at him. "...Cheeto sculpture?"

"Modeled after yours truly," Hawks bowed. "Rumi, er, Mirko had a craving so she ordered a bunch of Cheetos while she was on patrol but instead of five bags she hit fifty."

With his mask on it was impossible to tell what kind of expression Snipe was making. His slow turn as he walked inside spoke for him.

"Hey, Aizawa, you should come check out your room," Hawks hopped up one step, crouching down so he was level with the dozing man.

Aizawa's head jerked up. He glared.

"Come on," Hawks grinned leisurely, resting his cheek on his hand as he poked Aizawa's knee with the other. "It's right next to Hizashi's. Nemuri wants to see what kind of things your room has and there should already be a bed in there so you can go right to sleep. We'll even unpack for you so you can just hit the hay right away!"

Thirteen giggled as the winged hero urged Aizawa up and through the doors. They hadn't realized Hawks had gotten so close with the little trio of friends but it was nice to see. Friends always made work more fun, and Thirteen thought Aizawa could use all the friends in the world to take some of the ever-present strain off his shoulders.

"Would you like help carrying this?" Ectoplasm asked from where they had piled all of their bigger cases of luggage.

Thirteen looked over at the huge suitcase that held all of their suit repair tools. "Ah, that's okay. I prefer carrying that one myself, but if you wouldn't mind grabbing the smaller one I would really appreciate it."

Ectoplasm nodded, creating a few clones to help get all the luggage inside.

Thirteen hoisted their suitcase up into their arms, careful to keep it balanced. They glanced over everyone else's things. Everyone had brought at least two suitcases and a bag. Furniture was going to be moved in tomorrow but everything else was okayed to be brought in. The only ones who had brought less were Aizawa and Hawks.

Aizawa was a bit of a minimalist, he never really had a lot of things outside of the necessities so that wasn't surprising. Hawks was rather flashy though, so it was surprising to see him with only a duffle bag. Maybe his things were coming later. Assuming his apartment was in the same city as his Agency it would make sense that getting his things all the way here would be a pain.

"If we're going off of what we prefer my room must be on the bottom floor," Thirteen told Ectoplasm, huffing a bit as they went up the stairs. The weight in their arms lessened suddenly, but the suitcase stayed in their arms. Thirteen looked down, blinking at the two little red feathers helping to carry the bottom of the suitcase.

"Thank you Hawks!" they called loudly into the building.

"Your welco- ack! Why did you hit me? The kids aren't here, we can yell all we- agh!"

Thirteen giggled again. Ectoplasm shook his head.

Living here was going to be so much fun.

Hawks touched down gently in front of the hospital, setting the teen he'd been carrying on his feet. The little girl in his arms was fast asleep, exhausted after the events of the night.

"T-thank you," the kid said, voice rough due to the bruising around his throat. "Thank you so much. I… I can't-"

"It's fine," Hawks said softly, making his voice low. He pulled out one of the envelopes full of money he kept in his pocket, handing it over. "Take this. There's a number in there, call it if you ever need help."

It was tied to a burner Hawks had bought weeks ago specifically for cases like this. It was hard to figure out the best course of action for kids that didn't have anyone else to turn to when he wasn't acting as 'Hawks'. Some of them were too young to be left on their own so he'd drop them off at the hospital and keep of track of where they were put and with who until he was sure they were safe. For the older ones, like this teen, it was more difficult.

"This-," the kid chocked, peeking inside the envelope. "Why? Why would you do this?"

He sounded like he was about to cry.

"You needed help," Hawks said simply. "Look after your sister. If you can't live by yourselves then call the Open Arms Orphanage. They're good people, they won't separate you two. They'll teach you how to live independently and get your sister in school."

He looked hesitant, holding his sister closer to his chest. She couldn't be older than six.

Hawks reached out and flicked his head. He wanted to ruffle the kid's hair but dressed up in his night time attire with some dried blood on his gloves, he didn't think that was a very good idea.

"They won't hurt you. You'll be safe there."

Hawks resisted the urge to cross his arms or tap his toes. They were outside the area of the Hospital's security cameras but they were still visible from the windows. Hawks had been at this specific hospital multiple times already, he'd need to stay away for a while.

"I'll… I'll call them," the boy promised, bowing his head. "Thank you. I thought… I thought no one cared. You saved us. Thank you."

Hawks nodded, taking a step back. "Someone out there will always care, kid," he said softly. "Your sister knows that better than anyone."

She'd tried to punch Hawks, after all, when he'd gone to pick them up after taking care of their Uncle. Defended her brother tooth and nail.

Hawks took off right as the sliding doors of the hospital opened and one of the nurses ran out.

"Hey! You!" the white-haired nurse shouted, waving his hands. "Wait!"

Hawks saluted him and flew away. Wasn't that the nurse that treated Eiko and Rui when he'd brought them in? Those kids would be in good hands if that was the case.

Hawks flew to his apartment, even though he would be passing UA on the way there.

"This is Hawks," he called in his report as usual. "No sightings of the League yet. I've spread my influence further around."

"Any injuries?" the dull, robotic voice of the same guy that always recorded Hawks' verbal messages asked.

"A bruise on my leg from landing too roughly earlier. Nothing else."

"Your report has been recorded. Have a wonderful day."

Hawks grimaced as he hung up. That guy always gave him the chills.

"My recliner!" Hawks threw himself into the ratty old thing the second it was settled into the main room, leaning his chest against the backrest and fanning his wings around it.

Aizawa kicked at him. "My recliner," he corrected but sat down on the couch instead anyway.

Nemuri gave the chair a look of disgust. "Why on earth did you bring that thing here? Now was the perfect opportunity to get a new one!"

"How could you?" Hizashi gasped, betrayed. He patted the open space of the chair next to Hawks' face. "This chair is family."

"I bet it's full of disease!" Nemuri countered. "Look at all those holes, I wouldn't be surprised if something was living in it."

"Berry sleeps in it sometimes," Aizawa said helpfully.

"Oh my god."

Hawks lifted his head. "Berry? I thought your cat's name was Chickpea?"

"One of his cats is named Chickpea," Hizashi laughed, ruffling Hawks hair as he moved around to sit with Aizawa on the couch. "He's got, like, fifteen that just come and go through his window."

"Aw, what?" Hawks pouted dramatically. "Is that why you keep your balcony unlocked all the time?"

"No hon," Nemuri balanced her plate of takoyaki in one hand, also ruffling his hair as well as she passed. "They come in through his bedroom. We keep the balcony unlocked for you."

"I knew it!"

"Knew what?" Snipe walked in, dressed in the most western casual clothes Hawks had ever seen.

"That I'm Aizawa's favorite."

Hizashi sat up, looking ready to fight. "That's not what that meant!"

"You're all loud!" Hound Dog burst into the room.

Hawks twisted so his back wasn't to the room anymore. "Hey man! I don't think we've met yet!"

Hound Dog was huge. Hawks didn't know a lot about him, but what he did know made him a little nervous. The man embraced his instincts where others would often shun them. Hawks didn't doubt he was a good guy, he was a hero and a teacher after all, but he'd met a few people with free inhibitions when it came to their quirk based instincts and it always led to a certain level of tension when they interacted.

"Call me Ryo," Hound Dog grunted, rolling his shoulders. He nodded at Hawks once then addressed the rest of the room. "Is all the stuff moved in? Anyone need help?"

Everyone shook their heads. Hound Dog yawned.

"Then I'm going to bed. Keep it down!"

Hawks blinked as he stormed back out.

"Was that… good? Calling him by his first name means that was a good first impression, right?" Hawks asked.

"He's really nice once you look past all the yelling," Thirteen assured him. "And that was good! You should probably still call him Hound Dog when he's around the kids though. He gets shy about that."

That sounded hilarious.

There was a clattering of cups in the kitchen. Hawks sent a few feathers in to help.

"Ah, thank you Young Hawks," Yagi said, walking in with several colorful mugs. "I've made everyone some iced tea."

There was a round of delighted (and monotone) thank you's as the cups were passed around.

"Don't worry," Yagi whispered to Hawks as he handed him his. "This one is supposed to energize you and help you focus. You won't be falling asleep with this tea."

Hawks snorted. Yagi was the worst whisperer on the planet. "Thanks Yagi-san. It looks delicious."

And it was. He really needed to learn the secrets of Yagi's tea making. Hawks had never really been a fan of tea before but damn if Yagi wasn't converting him.

"Do all the dorms look like this?" Ectoplasm asked, for once free of his face mask. His rows of teeth looked reminiscent of Honenuki.

"With some minor differences in the actual rooms, but everything else is the same," Cementoss relaxed into the weird egg-shaped chair he'd brought that Hawks was seriously debating on stealing.

"The kids are gonna love it," Hawks stretched. "I think the rooms by themselves are almost bigger than Uraraka's apartment."

Aizawa nodded. Then he frowned. "How do you know how big Uraraka's apartment is?"

Hawks stared at him. He wasn't wearing his jacket, having long since discarded it once they started moving all the furniture in, so he couldn't cover his face with his collar. Instead, he pressed three of his fingers over his lips, signifying that he wasn't going to answer.

Aizawa sighed. "Exactly how long have you been patrolling around the kid's houses?"

"Aww, sweetie," Nemuri leaned back on the couch to smile at him. "Were you checking up on them?"

"Well, it's what we're going to be doing anyway, right?" Hawks blurted out, not quite meeting their eyes. It was embarrassing to admit considering it was his own paranoia and fears that were making him check. "They could be attacked at their houses. I figured it's a smart move to fly by sometimes."

"It is a smart move," Aizawa said. "Good job."

"I feel a lot better knowing you're keeping an eye on them," Vlad admitted, towel drying his hair. "Have they all been doing okay?"

Hawks looked at all of them but it seemed like they really weren't going to judge him for his anxiety patrols.

"Yeah," he stretched his wings along the back of the recliner, pleased as ever when they fit snuggly in a way most chairs couldn't match. "From what I could see in the air at least. Most of them have been hanging out at each other's houses."

"It feels safer to be with someone," Thirteen said sadly.

Hawks wondered about that. He liked hanging out with people, like Rumi and, well, these people with him now but he wasn't sure if he'd like it if he felt like he was in danger. More people to look after usually meant bad things for him in the end so being by himself in a bad situation was always best. If the only person he had to focus on was himself then he could handle pretty much anything.

Hawks rolled his neck, deciding to keep his thoughts to himself on that one. His wings twitched when he realized Aizawa was staring at him.

Eased back shoulders, a teasingly raised eyebrow, and a grin. The perfect recipe for someone that had nothing to hide.

Aizawa's face didn't change and he didn't blink.

Hawks let some confusion show now. He licked the back of his teeth. Had he given something away? What would he even have to give, in a situation like this? He hadn't been thinking anything particularly secretive, he just didn't want to bring the mood down any more than it already had been.

Aizawa blinked. He looked away like he hadn't just been staring straight into Hawks' soul.

Hawks kind of wanted to laugh, to let the nerves that had cropped up filter out of him in some way, but that would have looked odd.

The conversation turned back to lighter topics, everyone sharing the little ideas they had for personalizing their rooms. Hawks laughed along and encourage the conversation in certain directions, careful to keep it from turning on him.

It had been a good choice to only bring a few changes of clothes and a handful of books with him. He might like being around these people, would even go so far as to consider the majority of them friends, but this was a luxury. A reward he could give himself for doing well and making progress. If he stayed too long he'd get complacent. If people could read him when he didn't want to be read then he was making mistakes.

And right now, he couldn't afford mistakes.

-00-

"Hawks-sensei!"

Hawks lifted his headphones, peering down.

Ashido, Kaminari, Sero, and Kirishima all waved up at him excitedly.

Hawks grinned, dropping down to meet them.

"Heya chicklets, what's up?"

"We didn't think we'd see you until school started up!" Kirishima smiled widely. "I don't usually see you around here."

The others nodded, all looking up at him expectantly.

Hawks decided to worry about how easily these kids made him relax after a long patrol later. For now, it was just great to see them outside of quick flybys.

"I'm just passing by on my way home," he lifted his visor. "What are you four doing together? Hanging out for the day?"

It was rare to see this gaggle of kids without Bakugo int he mix, but considering the strict house watch he was under it made sense.

"We're making a basket of things for Bakugo," Ashido explained. "He doesn't want us going into his house, I think it's cause he's worried his Mom will embarrass him, but we can still leave him things!"

"Snacks and games," Kaminari finger-gunned, smirking. "Sero brought some of his own manga too."

Sero shrugged, grinning as always. "We only really know that he likes spicy things so we're trying to figure out the specifics of what to buy."

These kids were sweet.

"Have you tried asking Midoriya-kun?" Hawks asked.

Ashido slapped her own forehead.

Hawks laughed. Midoriya had a ridiculous amount of information on Bakugo, Hawks had learned from the one time he'd made the painful mistake of having the two pair up in his 'what would you do' situations. Bakugo had, of course, said he'd just charge in and take care of the problem. His solution was well thought out, although he'd completely left Midoriya out of the equation. Midoriya, on the other hand, had written... well, he'd written a lot. If it was anyone else Hawks might have been concerned by the level of information the green-haired boy had gathered but considering they had grown up together and Midoriya was almost scarily observant it made sense. Hawks had similar levels of information on several people he knew (his handlers didn't like it when he mentioned the things he'd learned about them, which is why he found it fun when he finally revealed exactly how much he knew) and Midoriya shared his interest in people watching.

Shame the two didn't get along as well as they could. Hawks didn't really know how to go about fixing a problem like that, he had no experience in it and the heavy-handed emotions Bakugo held onto as well as the overwhelming emotional-based thoughts of Midoriya were things he couldn't really understand. He'd asked Yumi-chan27 about but even her explanations hadn't made things any clearer. Working together to get past their issues with each other would make both of them stronger, more efficient heroes. He was pretty sure they both knew that. He just didn't see why they weren't doing that. Aizawa and Yagi seemed to be working at it though, with mixed results. Hopefully, they'd make some headway soon.

"What if everyone else wants to pitch in too?" Sero wondered.

Ashido lit up. "That would be amazing! Kaminari, bring up the group chat!"

"Uh," Kaminari shook his head. "Bakugo is going to see it if we do that."

Kirishima laughed, pulling out his phone. He looked elated. "We just need to make a new one without him in it so it's a surprise!"

Hawks watched them, tilting his head. They really were sweet kids.

"It's getting late," he told them. "Why don't you give everyone a night to think about it and buy everything tomorrow?"

They all looked up at the sky as if only noticing just then that the sun was setting.

"Oh, yeah, we should probably do that," Sero grimaced. "My parents are going to freak out if I'm gone any longer."

"Mine too," Kaminari sighed. "They've been really strict on curfew since the training camp."

"Meet up tomorrow then?" Ashido double-checked.

"Same time as today," Kirishima nodded.

"See you guys tomorrow then. It was great seeing you Hawks-sensei! Glad your wing is all better!" Ashido waved, jogging down the street.

The three boys said their goodbye's as well, Kaminari and Sero heading off together in one direction while Kirishima went another.

Hawks waved at them all, sending a feather to follow just in case. It was probably unnecessary, these neighborhoods were some of the safest, but he preferred not to take any chances.

Once all the kids had made it back he went home to prepare for a night of research. The League was recruiting, the word on the street said, and Hawks needed to know what kind of people they were looking for. So far they seemed picky but with the waves they were making Hawks didn't doubt they'd be approached by a big fish before long.

He needed an in before that happened.

-00-

Dabi lit his cigarette with the tips of his fingers, tucking his hands in his pockets. It was a little early for a smoke, he usually only had one in the evening to curb the stress of the day, but he'd burnt up his arms a bit and he felt he deserved something to take the edge off the pain. A few blocks down a fire was raging in an 'abandoned' building that had actually been used by the League's latest batch of potential recruits. Shitty drug dealers that prayed on the highschool down the street like it was Candyland were better off dead then bolstering their ranks with weak-minded slobs.

At least they would make great bait.

His phone buzzed. It was a text from Sako.

'He's here.'

Dabi grinned, cackling out a coughing laugh. That was one theory down. This little no-name town, so far out of the way he'd had Kurogiri warp him, was no where near Hawks' usual haunts. If the number three hero showed up here, then it was for a reason.

Dabi had started the fire an hour ago. How fast did the little bird have to fly to get here so quickly?

He texted Sako back, telling him to go ahead and leave. Dabi didn't need to know what happened after the fire, he already had a good idea of what was going to go down once Hawks realized who, exactly, had been caught in the flames.

Next he texted Kurogiri with the location of his next target.

Purple bloomed up in front of him.

"I am not a taxi service," Kurogiri told him.

"This'll all be worth it," Dabi promised. "Trust me."

He stepped out four towns over with time to kill. Plenty of time to find a worthy pyre.

Dabi wondered what Hawks would do when a fire started late into the night. Long after the hero's daylight hours, where shadows were easier to hide in.

If he showed up with pitch-black wings like Dabi thought he would, well…

That was where the fun could begin.

Hawks is not used to cohabitating. He'll get there.

I gotta stop doing the 'next time' things only to decide that certain moments fit a different chapter better. T-T

The next few chapters might just be me sidelining into pure fluff now that the teachers are all living together cause I need a serious serotonin boost right now my friends. The teachers at my school, myself included, were just encouraged to either create or update our Wills before the start of the school year. I'm kinda freaking out. So expect a lot of fluff, maybe some angst cause Hawks, but not a lot of plot development unless I decided to add some night time stealth Hawks. I just... I don't know friends. I don't know.

hinatayvonne: Both of them laughing like evil masterminds while everyone else is eating popcorn, waiting for the moment they realize they both think they've out-duped each other XD

Moonstone2003: XD My sister's laugh at me all the time when I do that, I get you friend. Thank you as ever my dear!

Blad Warrior: You flatter me, good warrior! That is totally a show I want to watch. The pure chaos and fluff, it'd be fantastic! I'm sliding that idea into the vaults. Who knows, maybe I'll write something up about it for ya!

McGwee: XD The curse of having to be self-caring in order to promote self-care XD

ChaosHearth: Mother hen levels... rising... it's reaching max capacity...! XD You won so well! One might even say... you were the best ;P

fencer29: Just imagine the bitchy neighbor face the President gets every time she sees Nezu's name on the caller ID XD Teruko is gonna do a little dance. It's gonna be adorable.

StandUpKeepMovingForward: I aim to please! And upset, depending on the levels of angst, but mostly please!

micieloestrellado: My dude. Writing out your username always makes me feel like I'm taking on a mini-challenge to get it all correct XD Let me know if I ever mess it up! And thank you, my dear, for being such a bean! I'm still trying to form a strong writing style, I'm jazzed to know you like it so far!
