Chapter 23nd

Special Agent Gibbs found himself alone once more in his own house. There was a note from Loreile telling him that she had to work and will contact him in a few days once things had settled down.

Just when he was going to go down into his basement to work on his new boat. There was a knock on his door wondering who it could be at this hour. Getting off his couch he headed for the front door that he has locked for now on.

He couldn't believe his eyes. It was Doctor Taft of all people to be showing up. "Hey Doc! It's been awhile. Why are you here ?" He asked sounding slightly confused.

"I heard from a source of mine that you were back home at your house after being released from the safehouse." He said with pulling off his glasses to wipe them.

"Don't tell me, it was Director Vance that called you to check up on me?" Gibbs was annoyed slightly for his heart specialist to be concerned. "By the way how's your wife Diane?" He asked remembering from their last conversation that was two years ago.

"She's great! We just found out we are going to be parents again Gibbs. We are going to be having a girl after finding out yesterday the results of the ultrasound. How are you for the most part?" He went to sit down on the couch with Gibbs sitting as well.

"I am so happy for you and Diane. Did you happen to cut back on your hours at the hospital?" He asked with concern since his wife complained two years ago about it with their marriage in trouble.

"I did Gibbs and it was the best thing I ever did. We even had that chance to take a second honeymoon to recharge our marriage. So Gibbs how have been feeling lately besides the usual aches and pains that comes with age?"

Gibbs smiled slightly before answering his question. "I am just fine. For some reason I should have an issue with having to been placed in the safehouse. Even though finding out that the body double taking over for me was murdered. However I was able to get my just deserts with Hussein having been murdered in his prison cell."

"Wow! I know, Director Vance against his better judgement gave me all of the details and including your bodyguard being Lt. Loreile Baskins." He said with a smirk.

Gibbs this time really did with a wide smile. "Wonderful woman that certainly knows her job among other things." He paused for a moment before saying something else. "Is there anything else Doc, you like to asked? And you're not getting anything else out of me for when it comes to Lt. Baskins."

"You don't have to Gibbs. You're glowing all over your face. I just like to say that I wish you all the best for when it comes to finally being happy in your life. Now I need to go and head home. If you ever need to talk, I will give you my new cell phone number." He dialed Gibbs phone as he picked it up to stop it. "Save the number when I leave my friend. Please take care yourself and say hi to your team at the Naval yards." He moves off the couch with Gibbs following to walk him out.

"Please let me know when it gets close to Diane's delivery date." He asked with placing a hand onto his shoulder before shaking the doctor's hand.

"I will Gibbs."

Evergreen safehouse

Loreile arrived back at her quarters after speaking with her boss about her assignment with Gibbs. She was already placed with another assignment for the next two weeks before she is allowed to take a week's vacation. She tried to fight it with needing the time off now, however her boss wouldn't hear of it at this time.

She needed to call Gibbs with the number he had given to her. She had felt bad that she wasn't able to leave the safehouse with Senator John Murphy arriving tomorrow with his protection from someone that was trying to kill him with a threat.

Walking into her quarters and the living area. She pulled out her cell phone to press send to his number.

Gibbs was just getting comfortable on the couch since he didn't feel like sleeping upstairs in the bedroom. His cell phone was going off having forgotten to turn off the ringer and place it on vibrate. "Gibbs, how are you, Loreile?"

"Tired. I just came from a meeting with my boss and I won't be able to leave for two weeks before I am able to have a week off for vacation. I am truly sorry about it, but I differently will make it up to you afterwards Jethro." She says his first name softly while he cracked a smile.

"No problem Loreile, I will be counting the days. By the way whose your next charge?" He needed to asked with the question.

"Do you happen to hear of Senator John Murphy of California? He claims that someone has been trying to kill him the past month along with the threats. He called the Witness Protection Program and in the meantime the F.B.I. and other agencies will be trying to find the idiot."

"I have heard of the senator. I believe he's involved in the Satellite funding program for the United States. If someone is trying to kill him, I tend to believe his claim Loreile. I wish you all the best with his protection. I missed you, and good night ." He says with sadness in his tone before ending the call.

Looking at the time...He needed to be up up for his chat with Sloane in the morning to make sure he's able to come back to work. Moving under the blankets, he fell asleep taking a few moments...

While Loreile needed to get herself ready for tomorrow...
