Mowgli and Karina were fortunate that the Primate guard that watched over the entrance to the dungeon did not come over to the cell anytime during the night. Both of them barely slept as, Karina's idea that she talked over with, Mowgli quietly the previous night. There was only one guard watching over the whole dungeon. He hardly did his duty as, Karina always saw him sitting at the entrance and snoring loudly in his sleep.
With the guard not paying any attention he may not yet know that Karina was freed by, Mowgli. It did not seem to be much activity over night listening to what came from the staircase that led up to the rotunda. Remembering it was rather late in the morning when they were retrieved the first time, they were in the dungeon perhaps that would be the best opportunity to escape. The Question there was how could they get out of the cell?
No doubt the sleeping guard had the key and he would not come unlock the door unless others were with him to retrieve the slaves for whatever vile purpose the Primate Royals would have for them. Given to what happened the previous day there was no telling what they would do. Beretta had beaten, Karina badly while she was subdued and could barely even sleep due to her body still relatively sore from the ordeal. Though the wolf girl was still in some pain from her beating she had to stay strong for this time everything had to go right, and she needed remain steadfast.
Over the night after she had talked with, Mowgli and ate what little of the dinner they had they agreed to take turns sleeping. Karina slept first as she needed the rest badly after her punishment had exhausted her greatly. She had, Mowgli keep his eye out on the guard outside the cell if he would wake and come to check on them he had to wake her up for seeing her free from her binds could be rather suspicious even if he believed that the ropes broke and she wasn't cut free from, Mowgli it would ruin the plan she made.
She slept for a couple of hours before, Mowgli woke her. She then took her turn watching for the guard as she let, Mowgli get some sleep. They had to do this right as their freedom was on the line once again. Karina made the mistake of immediately trying to escape during the daytime while nearly every Primate in the ancient ruins was wide awake and patrol. Getting the idea of what she had to do now could possibly free both her and, Mowgli.
But they had to wait till the morning was about to come. If she did this during the night, it would be too dangerous. They would not be able to see without a torch and if they were to get out and use a torch it would give themselves away and may be alerted to their second escape attempt and the jungle was very dangerous at night as most of the known predators tended to stalk about and they would barely stand a chance without any sort of weapon.
The Best option that, Karina could think of was when the sun was just starting to rise as she and, Mowgli whoever would be awake by then could see the light coming from the stairway outside the cell they would alert the other to get prepared.
Karina was up for the third time leaning against the bars of the cell watching the guard and kept an eye out for the first ray of light on the staircase. She peered over at, Mowgli was asleep against the side of the wall. She smiled at him as he looked quite cute when he was asleep. That moment they shared the other day was truly a special one. Karina finally let out her thoughts and feelings for the mancub.
It made her so happy to know that, Mowgli felt the same with her. He was still quite young and yet he already believed he found someone special to be with. Karina was so happy, and she would do anything for him. Right now, all she could hope for now was to get him out of this place and safely back home in the Wolf Kingdom.
Karina looked back at the stairs again and prayed to the spirts for better luck this day. She had suffered the consequences for her rash actions and never wanted to go through it again. She rubbed her sore belly as it ached like she ate something horrendous but that all came from that cold-hearted primate, Beretta. She swore she would make her pay for that along with everything else.
Then Karina saw it. She saw a tiny glimmer of light come from the stairs showing the sun was starting to rise. She and, Mowgli had to work fast if they were going to finally free themselves. She immediately went over to, Mowgli and gently shook him.
"Mowgli wake up! Its time!" She said shaking him faster as, Mowgli stirred awake. He knew what to do as he rose to his feet with some help from, Karina. After, Mowgli rubbed his eyes he looked up at, Karina with worry.
"Are you sure this will work?" He asked.
Karina sighed as this plan she made did not have a great chance at succession but there was no other choice. "I cannot say for sure. But we have to try. I am ready and willing to accept what comes next. Are you?"
Though, Mowgli was worried he nodded. Karina gave him a soft pet on his head. She grabbed the ropes that once bonded her hands together and, Mowgli help tie a very loose knot on them and she, Karina walked over to hanging rope she was once tied on and grabbed the tip of it and stood on her toes to grab the rope and stood just under it.
"Alright, Mowgli. Do it!" She told the mancub as she then looked down and shut her eyes. Mowgli went over to the bars of the cell and took a deep breath as there was no going back after this.
"Guard! Please help!" Mowgli screamed causing the primate guard to stir awake. He glared at the mancub at the cells.
"Mancub its not time yet! Go back to sleep now!" He ordered with a grumble in his voice as he still felt very tired.
"Please, help! Karina will not wake up! I beg you to come see what you can do!" Mowgli pleaded as he put on a very worried look.
The Guard groaned as he stood up and walked over to the cell door and looked inside to see, Mowgli was grabbing on, Karina's waist and shook her but she would not stir. It was odd. The Guard knew that, Beretta disciplined the wolf girl, but she would not kill her unless the royals commanded it or if she had a good reason. He looked up at the binds on the wolf girls' wrists and saw they were still wrapped around her wrists and she had her hands clasp around the ropes.
It was peculiar. Why would the wolf girls' hands be holding onto the rope above her when the mancub said something was wrong?
"Move over to the end of the cell, mancub and don't move!" He ordered as, Mowgli retreated to the far side of the cell as the Primate Guard opened up the cell door and walked around the wolf girl standing in front of her. He noticed her eyes were shut and she was not moving at all. He tapped the side of her face to get a response but then, Karina's eyes shot open. She made a growl and leaped out at him breaking apart the bonds on her hands due to the loose knot, Mowgli made catching the guard by complete surprise pinning onto the ground.
Karina grabbed a shard of the plate that, Mowgli used to cut her bonds the previous night that was right in the spot where she placed it as part of the plan. The Primate could not even react as, Karina brought the shard right down upon the Primates throat.
She pierced the shard so deep in his throat that he could not even scream from the pain as blood splurged out from his throat and his mouth. He gagged and coughed as his life faded away almost within an instant coming to a painful end. Karina spit upon the guards deceased face as the plan had worked. They had successfully tricked the guard to unlocking the cell and taking the bait letting, Karina take him by surprise and finishing him.
Mowgli was quite disturbed seeing the grisly scene in front of him. He seen many hunters bring in their catches before and watched them be skinned which did include his very own catch when he went out on his first hunt but to watch a living being that was a person be killed right in front of him seeing the blood all over the floor and the horrid look the primates face had made when it was killed. He turned away and felt like he was going to puke.
Karina immediately got back to her feet and hurried over to, Mowgli. "I know its horrible, Mowgli but come we cannot waste time!" She grabbed his hand and hurried out of the cell with, Mowgli as he took one last look at the primate that, Karina killed without hesitation. He wondered with as quick as she was in taking a life it made him wonder had she done it before. Did she actually kill more than just animals?
Though his mind was plagued with questions he quickly made his way up the steps on the stairs with, Karina. They could see above that the sun had barely come out. He believed that this time they actually would be able to make it. Most of the primates had to still be asleep at the time. They wouldn't expect the prisoners to escape their cells. Mowgli's face started to curve into a smile as, Karina's plan seemed to have work.
The Two made it up the staircase and found the ancient ruins was barely active. There were hardly any guards around. And those that were around were sleeping on something or against each other. The Walls just outside the rotunda were not guarded at all. There was no one around any of the openings of the wall. They could escape before anyone realized they were missing.
"Come, Mowgli lets go!" Karina told the mancub by her side as she was about to run ahead but then a Primate came walking out from behind one of the columns in the rotunda in front of them.
"Oh, no!" Karina groaned as it was, Beretta who smiled wickedly at both her and, Mowgli.
"My, my! A little too early for a stroll. I don't suppose by the blood on your hands there, wolfy belongs to the guard down those steps." The right hand of the Primate royals inquired as she tapped the bottom end of her spear on the ground.
Karina clenched her fists. Once again, the very primate responsible for so much of her and, Mowgli's suffering stood in their way. Time and time again, Beretta has hounded them both. She was the true source of all their suffering. King Louie and Queen Abra may have ordered much of they endured but, Beretta was the one to carry it all out from their kidnapping down to all the pain they had suffered.
The Wolf Girl was not going to let, Beretta stand in their way as she brought, Mowgli behind her back. Beretta slowly stepped forward.
"Seems your more resourceful than I once thought there, girly." Beretta snickered as came closer as, Karina stepped forward letting go of, Mowgli gesturing him to remain where he stood as he watched with uneasiness.
"I will say this only once. Get. Out. Of. Our. Way." Karina warned as her teeth snarled and her fists were raised and ready for a fight.
Beretta only smiled more gripping her spear with both of her hands. "Oh, I think not. For the death of the incompetent guard his life shall be answered for with yours. But I am willing to bargain. Go back to your cells and perhaps I may convince both yours and the mancub's punishments for the murder of one of their subjects and another escape attempt to be lightened. Though I cannot promise I won't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed our little time from yesterday." She chuckled.
That was the last straw for, Karina. She had enough of that flea bagged vermin! She dared mock her of what she had done to her. Even go as far as make a bargain for their future punishments to be lightened that she would be the one to carry it out! She would not have it anymore and lunged at, Beretta.
The Primate brought her spear up as, Karina grabbed at it as she growled and snarled trying to rip the spear out of, Beretta's hands. She thought she could simply take it but, Beretta held onto her weapon firmly. The Two women grunted trying to get the upper hand on each other as, Mowgli watched in horror. Karina was then kicked in the stomach that made her almost dropped to her knee's but held on.
She was then elbowed to the side of her face causing her to take a few steps back as she tried to keep a grip on the spear. Beretta knew she had the upper hand here as, Karina was losing ground and she was still recovering from the punishment from before.
"Please, don't give up so easily, wolfy!" She laughed. "I need some joy to start this morning!" She shoved, Karina back some more as they were a few feet away from the stairs as, Mowgli hurried out of the way. He was scared for, Karina. She was losing the fight. He didn't know what to do as he worried the sounds of the fight would wake up the guards that were thankfully a good distance away but with the sun coming up it was only a matter of time before they would wake from the noise or the sun.
Karina looked behind her to see that the staircase to the dungeon was close. She understood the fight right now was going in favor of her opponent. She noticed, Mowgli nearby and saw his scared look. She understood his fear. The Guards could wake up and subdue them if she did not either get rid of, Beretta or at least take the fight somewhere that would make too much noise. She got an idea, but it would mean her chance at escape could be forfeit.
She gave, Mowgli a quick look. "Run!" She yelled before leaping up and curling her legs upwards to the surprise of, Beretta as she did not know what the wolf girl was doing. Karina's back fell onto the ground and she rolled backwards keeping the grip on, Beretta's spear and with, Beretta not letting go of her weapon they both tumbled backward down the stairs. Mowgli ran up to the staircase and watched as, Beretta and Karina all rolled down the stairs as they howled and cried from the falling down the hardened steps.
Mowgli heard what, Karina told him to do before she and, Beretta fell down the stairs. He looked at the wall that still was left unguarded and he saw the guards still had yet to wake up. Karina had given him the opportunity to escape but that would mean leaving her behind. He just could not run into the jungle without her. He ran down the stairs but stayed at the middle as he saw both, Karina and Beretta hit the bottom of the steps and rolled a short distance before stopping.
Both the Primate and Wolf Girl groaned from all the impacts on the steps. They barely were able to move for a few moments as their bodies ached badly. But Beretta started to rise up along with, Karina.
Beretta realized she had lost her weapon in the fall but that was of little consequence seeing how, Karina did not have it.
She panted angrily. "Your going to wish you didn't do that, girl!" She stated as she stretched out her arms and cracked her knuckles.
Karina looked straight on at, Beretta with fury in her eyes. "I only wish I did it sooner!" She replied.
Beretta only laughed at that remark. "You really think you have a chance? Please, your just as pathetic as you are even when your strung up like a worm on a hook."
"You'll find that its not so fun when I am hanging helpless! Mowgli will bring the Wolf Kingdom here! And when that happens you will learn that you should have stayed out of this jungle!" Karina growled.
Beretta only chuckled as both her and, Karina started to circle each other as, Mowgli stayed at the lower portion of the stairs looking around the corner as each of them failed notice, Mowgli was watching.
"Oh, that little brat wouldn't be able find banana tree let alone the Wolf Kingdom this far into the jungle. He may run but once I deal with you ill have him recaptured in no time. Ill have him watch as I peel away hide from your dead body and once he gets a look at my work Ill give him the same treatment only he will be alive for it and I cannot wait to hear his screams!" Beretta smiled evilly as, Karina's eyes went into a raging fury as she charged, Beretta.
"YOU WILL NOT HARM HIM!" She shouted as grabbed, Beretta shoving her back as, Beretta then grabbed on, Karina as they both grappled each other both trying to get the upper hand.
Mowgli watched in shock as the two opponents began to hit each other. Beretta brought a fist down on, Karina's sore belly which then the wolf girl exchanged that with a blow to, Beretta's face. Karina may have been more hurt than she let on due to what happened to her the other day but, Beretta's threat against, Mowgli enraged her.
The Two fighters exchanged blow after blow on each from punches to the face and kicks to the side. Karina's fury gave her drive but her already sore body was starting to give. Beretta had the momentum as she grabbed and slammed, Karina into one of the cell bars.
Quickly turning her around she grabbed her head and pressed, Karina's face into the bars and then dragged it across having each bar knock, Karina right in her snout as she yelped from each hit. She raised her left leg and thrust it back colliding her foot on, Beretta's stomach knocking her back.
Karina turned around taking a quick moment to adjust herself before tackling, Beretta and proceeded to strike at her face. Beretta took each punch hard grunting from each hit. Mowgli continuing to watch from the corner was growing excited for, Karina she was now winning the fight that he almost cheered her on but then suddenly, Beretta grabbed, Karina's head brought it down onto her head slamming it against each other as, Karina took the brunt of the hit.
Beretta took the advantage and kicked, Karina once more in the stomach then elbowed her face knocking, Karina off her. Karina had to roll away as the wounds from the fight were starting to get to her. She managed to stand up, but her vision started to blur. She turned around to see that Beretta already got back on her feet with her arms up and dastardly smile on her face.
"My turn!" She declared before she began to jab at, Karina. Karina had become rather weakened from the prolonged fight that she could not defend herself from the blows. Each hit to her face, chest and her sides made her take a step back. Beretta now had the upper hand as she kept a big sinister grin on her face as she was enjoying pounding on, Karina.
Karina got hit in her side causing her to nearly stumble but managed to plant her feet but then, Beretta introduced a heavy uppercut that caused, Karina to fall on her back. Beretta then mounted on, Karina grabbing her throat with, Karina trying to pry her hands off her neck, but her strength was waned, and she could not force her hands off.
Mowgli saw then scene knowing his friend was in trouble. He had to do something or, Karina would perish. He did not know what he could do against, Beretta as, Karina barely was able to take her on. She was hurt and even if he managed to knock her off, Karina they would not be a match for her. He then spotted, Beretta's spear laying near the stairs. The two were once fighting over it and lost it in their fall. Mowgli quickly grabbed the spear and looked upon, Beretta who was about to finish off, Karina as she, Karina nearly lost all the air in her.
"Die wolf! You will make a fine new trophy for me!" Beretta laughed evilly but then suddenly her grip loosened on, Karina's through as something quickly pierced through her back, she screamed in agony as something pierced her left side. Karina immediately crawled out from under, Beretta and regained much needed air to see that, Mowgli had stabbed, Beretta in her back with her own spear as she stared up at, Mowgli amazed by his courage.
Mowgli shoved the spear deeper in, Beretta as his face had a stern look on it. He had to save his friend from someone who was about to kill her. He did not think as he let instinct drive him. Beretta fell to her knees and looked behind her to see that it was, Mowgli that stabbed her.
"No…not…by a mancub." She murmured as she took her last breath falling to the ground. She tried to stand back up, but it was useless she was finished as blood poured from her back as her eyes darkened and then shut. Beretta was dead and, Mowgli had finished her.
Mowgli's eyes went wide as he came to a realization what he had done. He slowly let go of the spear and backed away from now dead, Beretta. He shook fearfully as he had taken his first life. He did not know how to feel.
Karina caught her breath and walked over to, Mowgli. He was shocked by what he had done but, Karina took his hand and put a comforting arm around his shoulder. Mowgli gripped, Karina's hand as he could not comprehend what he had done.
"Karina…I…." Mowgli felt a shame wash over him but, Karina tilted his chin upwards to look at her.
"Mowgli. You saved me. I told you to run and you came down here and saved me! You did a great thing. You have my eternal thanks. Do not feel ashamed. She would have ended both of us. You did something good, Mowgli." Karina told him in a calm voice as she glared down at the deceased, Beretta. Vengeance was both hers and, Mowgli's.
Mowgli whimpered a little as taking a life was hard even if it was the life of one who deserved death the most. He was happy that, Karina was still alive and was somewhat glad that he did something good as she claimed.
Mowgli sighed as he couldn't be around this anymore. "I want to go home!" He pleaded.
Karina nodded. "I do too. Come let's go while we still have a chance." Karina let go of, Mowgli and grabbed the spear from the backside of, Beretta. However, she groaned as her body had been through so much. Now that the fight was over, she realized she had a hard time standing. Gripping the spear and laying against the side of the wall for a moment she took a moment to regain herself.
After a minute had passed, Karina looked at, Mowgli. "Let's go!" She climbed the stairs with, Mowgli right by her side holding onto her hand as she used the spear to help herself climb. They had a long way to go but for now they took gratification to know that the one who had put them through so much misery had paid the ultimate price for all her evil.
