The Adventures of Max and Leo: If that isn't exciting enough . . .
Max and Leo were watching TV while relaxing on beds in the bedroom of the beach house.
"This is an awesome show, Leo," Max said. "Who would have thought a tool man can be so funny and witty?"
"I know, even at the expense of his colleague being you know, insulted," Leo said. "Well, him and basically everybody"
"At least he does liven up the show," Max said. "The neighbor next door reminds me of you."
"Except you do see my face," Leo said. "But, if you're saying that I'm wise and do a lot of research, then you know me better than I thought you did."
"Well, we've got a week left here at the beach, so what do you hope to do in our last week here?" Max asked.
"Well, I pretty much just want to chill, but if you want to swim and surf, then you can," Leo said. "I just want to rest and relax before we have to go back to Portland for the school year."
"I don't blame you," Max said. "I know we're in for a busy year."
"We sure are," Leo said. "We're going to the eighth grade."
"Yeah, we sure are," Max said. "That means harder work, though . . ."
"It's okay, Max, I'll help you through it," Leo said.
"I know you will and I appreciate it," Max said. "Thanks."
"Sure thing, Max," Leo said.
Leo and Max then got a call on the landline phone and then Leo picked up the phone to answer it.
"Hello?" Leo asked over the phone. "Yes, it's me, Leo, speaking. Yeah? Yeah? That would be so cool! I'd love to do it! I know Max will be excited to hear this. He's right next to me so he will be the first to know. Thanks for letting me know. Okay, bye."
Leo hangs up.
"What's going on?" Max asked.
"That was the athletic director," Leo said. "He said that I get to coach the basketball team again this year."
"That is awesome," Max said. "I hope we can have as successful a basketball season this season as we did last season."
"If the team works as hard this season as they did last season, we will," Leo said.
"I'm glad you have confidence in them already," Max said. "So, shall we continue to watch this entertainment?"
"We sure shall," Leo said.
Leo and Max continued to watch the TV . . .
A couple of hours later, another phone call comes to the beach house. Leo picks up.
"Hello?" Leo asked. "This is Leo. Yes? Really? That's amazing! I'm sure my future team will appreciate the change in scenery. Plus, we can draw a bigger crowd. Thanks for letting me know. Max is right here with me and I'm sure he will be happy as well. Thank you so much. Okay, bye."
Leo hangs up.
"What was that?" Max asked.
"Well, Max, when the basketball season starts, we'll be playing in a brand new basketball court," Leo said. "It's a part of the new complex that we will be sharing with the high school since it's practically right next to us."
"Awesome," Max said. "Will you have an office?"
"Yeah, I'll actually have my own office that I won't have to share and I can start decorating it whenever I am ready to do so," Leo said.
"That is so cool," Max said.
"Yeah, it is," Leo said. "There are so many other cool things in that complex so you'll love it once you take a good look at it."
"Awesome," Max said. "So, what do you want to do now?"
"I think I am going to fix us some dinner," Leo said. "You want some pizza?"
"I'd love some pizza," Max said.
"Awesome, I'll go start the oven," Leo said.
Leo went in the kitchen to start on dinner for himself and Max . . .
After dinner, Leo and Max were playing video games when another call comes through the wire. Leo stopped the game and then went to the phone to pick it up.
"Hello?" Leo asked. "No, this is Leo, his best friend. You wanted to talk to Max? Okay, I'll give him the phone."
"What's going on?" Max asked.
"Someone wants to talk to you," Leo said.
Max went to where Leo was and Leo handed him the phone.
"Hey, this is Max," Max said. "Oh, you remember Leo and me from that birthday party? Small world, am I right? Well, anyway, what did you need me for? You want me to be the Super Swimmer at his birthday party this year? That would be so awesome! I'd love to do it! Thank you so much! This is fantastic! I look forward to it. Alright, thank you so much. Bye."
Max hung up.
"Hey, Leo, remember Adam?" Max asked.
"I sure do," Leo said. "What's going on?"
"That was his mom," Max said. "She wants me to be the Super Swimmer at his birthday party."
"Awesome," Leo said. "But, how did she find out about Super Swimmer?"
"I guess either my mom told her or one of Adam's friends that goes to our school told him," Max said. "Either way, this is awesome."
"It sure is," Leo said. "After my birthday, this is the tenth time you showcased the Super Swimmer at a birthday party. I guess my video has really gotten people wanting to meet the Super Swimmer."
"I guess so, too," Max said. "I'm still grateful you made it for me. Thanks, Leo."
"Sure thing," Leo said. "Well, let's get back to Sonic 2."
"Let's do it," Max said.
Max and Leo went back to their video game and resumed playing . . .
The next day, while Leo was fixing Max lunch in the kitchen, the phone rings once more and again. Leo goes to the phone and answers it.
"Hello?" Leo asked. "Nope, it's his best friend, Leo. Great because I'm right in the middle of fixing him lunch."
"Does someone else need to speak to me?" Max asked.
"Here, it's the athletic director," Leo said, handing the phone to Max before returning to his cooking.
"Hey, there," Max said. "What could be more exciting than Leo coaching a basketball team in their new gym? Yeah, most of the school knows of me being the Super Swimmer. Wait, there's a pool in the new complex? And the gym teacher wants to start a spring boys swimming team? And he wants to know if I'm interested? Of course I'm interested! I'd love to swim for the school! This is fantastic! Thanks for letting me know. Okay, see you in school. Bye."
Max hangs up.
"The news sounds exciting," Leo said.
"It is, the gym teacher saw your video of me being the Super Swimmer," Max said. "Now, here's what's cool. The gym teacher has experience in being a swimming instructor and a lifeguard before he came to be our gym teacher."
"Why did he want to be a gym teacher? Swimming instructor and lifeguard both sound like exciting jobs with occasional acts of servanthood," Leo said.
"They do sound like cool jobs," Max said. "But, anyway, in that new complex we found out about, there's a pool in there, so the gym teacher is going to start a spring boys swimming team and he wanted me to try out when basketball season ends."
"Awesome," Leo said. "I knew you told me before you've always wanted a spring team to play on."
"Yeah, I did," Max said. "Now, I have one that I think I might enjoy."
"With your fast swimming abilities, your team will do well this season, no doubt," Leo said. "Either way, I'm happy for you, Max."
"Thanks, Leo," Max said.
"Well, your macaroni and cheese is ready," Leo said. "Let's eat."
Leo fixed himself and Max plates and the two sat down to enjoy lunch . . .
Later that evening, Max and Leo were in the bedroom playing video games. While they were playing video games, Leo heard the phone ring yet again. Leo went to the phone to answer it.
"Hello?" Leo asked. "Hey, this is Leo. Aw, it's good to hear from you again. How are you doing? That's awesome. How is the move to the house in front of mine coming along? That is awesome."
"Is that who I think it is?" Max asked.
"Yeah, it is, Max," Leo said and then continued talking on the phone. "That was Max. He's here with me. We were playing video games when you called. Oh, did you want to talk to him, too? Hold on, I'll give him the phone."
Leo then turned to Max and said, "Max, she wants to talk to you."
"Cool," Max said and then sat down next to Leo. Leo gave Max the phone.
"Hey, there," Max said. "How does it feel to get to talk to Leo and me again? It's always great to hear from you. So, what did you want to talk about? Yeah? Yeah? Really, you want Leo and me to do that for you? That would be great. I'd love that. That means we'll get to spend a lot of time together. Thank you so much. I'm more excited than I already am. This is great. I really look forward to the memories we are going to make. Thank you so much. Have a wonderful day. Bye."
Max hangs up.
"She said that with her parents' new job, there will be times where they will need a babysitter," Max said. "So, she's asking us to do that."
"That is awesome," Leo said.
"I know, I am so excited," Max said. "This outpouring of good news we've been getting is really making me look forward to the months to come."
"Same here," Leo said. "I'm really thankful that we can be trusted with such responsibilities."
"Plus, I get to have some fun," Max said.
"And you get to put your swimming skills to the test," Leo said.
"Yeah, I get to swim with people that love swimming as much as I do," Max said.
"Possibly," Leo said. "But, I look forward to everything we're going to do the next year."
"Me, too," Max said. "Well, let's get back to our game."
"Sounds great," Leo said. "Maybe after a while, I'll fix us some cookies."
"I'd love that," Max said.
Leo and Max resumed playing their video game with the joy and excitement still in the air.
