6C - Vs. Boom Boom

Mario and friends walked down a long hallway that was lit up with several neon lights.

"I think now's a good time to use my Super Leaf," Luigi said. He took out his Super Leaf and crushed it in his fist. As a result, he turned into Fox Luigi.

"Why don't you have raccoon ears and a raccoon tail?" Alex asked.

"I don't know. I think the powerup knows the differences between me and Mario and decided to give me fox ears and a fox tail."

About a minute later, evil laughter sounded from the room up ahead.

"That must be Boom Boom," Mario said. The final room the group entered had a window with metal bars on the left wall, gray bricks covering the walls and ceiling, and a concrete floor on the bottom.

As everyone expected, the hallway was closed off with black bricks. Suddenly, Boom Boom crashed through the ceiling and landed in front. Mario and Yoshi stood in front of the black bricks, allowing Luigi and Alex to confront Boom Boom.

"Well, well, well! We meet again, Mario and Luigi!" Boom Boom announced.

"I'm not Mario!" Alex argued while pointing at his cap. "See the letter 'A'? I'm Alex!"

"Oh, so you must be the younger version of Mario, eh? I see you've got no mustache!"

"Who cares about mustaches?" Luigi asked. "We care more about a Magic Mushroom you must have stolen!"

"Of course, I stole it!" Boom Boom said. "I need the magic to grant all my wishes! And one of them is to guarantee me the winner of this battle! You think you can stomp on me three times and expect me to explode into nothing? Not this time!"

Boom Boom took out a red glittering Mushroom and threw it into the air. The Magic Mushroom hovered several feet above Boom Boom's head and showered two waves of rainbow-colored magic before disappearing.

Seconds later, most of the floor collapsed into a bottomless pit; a central platform and a thin border along the wall remained intact. Mario and Yoshi threw themselves against the wall right when the floor collapsed.

Having absorbed the magic, Boom Boom grew two and a half times his normal size and his face morphed to form a hybrid between his regular face and Bowser's face. Multiple spikes also grew out of his shell.

"Oh, yes!" Boom Boom exclaimed in a deep voice. "Now there's no way you'll take me down!" He stomped his right foot to begin the battle.

Boom Boom's first move was shooting five yellow orange fireballs from his right hand's fingers. Alex acted quickly and threw five red fireballs to extinguish Boom Boom's fireballs.

"I have an idea," Luigi told Alex. "Jump toward him."

Right as Boom Boom tried his finger fireball move again, Alex jumped to avoid the fireballs and Luigi followed suit. Because Luigi jumped higher than Alex, he was able to land his left foot on Alex's head and Footstool Jump toward Boom Boom's head.

All Alex could do was watch Luigi fly over Boom Boom's head to Ground Pound him. He landed on his back and quickly picked himself up. At the same time, Luigi successfully ground pounded Boom Boom's head. The force of the Ground Pound caused Boom Boom to retreat into his spiked shell and slide all over the place.

Mario and Yoshi ducked to avoid Boom Boom's sliding shell attack, which ended after three seconds. As soon as Boom Boom emerged from his shell, he flexed his arms and his biceps grew a small bit.

Boom Boom's next attack was to pound the floor with his fists and try to stun Alex and Luigi with the resultant shockwave. Alex and Luigi jumped to avoid the first shockwave, but Alex was caught off guard and got hit by the second one; Alex trembled violently for a few seconds, worrying Mario and Yoshi.

"Be careful, Alex!" "Don't let him win!" Mario and Yoshi cried respectively. Luckily, Alex managed to recollect himself after Luigi landed. Again, Alex and Luigi did the Footstool Jump technique again, but it was Alex who made the second Ground Pound.

"Just one more, Alex!" Luigi yelled right as Boom Boom retreated into his shell. After doing his second sliding shell move, Boom Boom stomped his foot with anger.

"Urgh! This is getting annoying! Why are you two underestimating my magic?!"

"You tell me!" Luigi answered.

"All right, then!" Boom Boom clenched his fists and scrunched his face, turning his skin a deep red color. He started to pound the floor with his fists again, but instead of creating a shockwave, a ring of fire spread outward. He also mixed in his finger fireball move between each floor pound.

While Alex counteracted Boom Boom's fireballs and avoided the fiery floor pounds, Luigi leaped toward Boom Boom's face and tail whipped him to make him fall on his shell. Boom Boom got up immediately afterward.

"Come on, guys! You can do it!" Mario cheered.

Luigi and Alex tried their Footstool Jump technique again with Luigi intending to make the final Ground Pound. However, Boom Boom was quick enough to swipe Luigi away and turn him back to normal.

"BRO!" "LUIGI!" Mario and Yoshi cried upon seeing Luigi land on his stomach.

"Are you okay, Luigi?!" Alex asked with despair.

"I'm okay… Finish him off…" Luigi murmured.

"Hahaha! Now it's just you and me, Alex!" Boom Boom laughed, angering Alex.

"Don't you EVER hurt my brother!"

Right as Boom Boom did his finger fireball move again, Alex jumped onto Boom Boom's hand and catapulted himself above Boom Boom's head before ground pounding him.

The final Ground Pound caused Boom Boom to fall on his stomach, shrink back to his usual size, and revert his skin color and face to normal again.

"Oh, the mushroomanity…! King Bowser's gonna be so upset with me…!" Boom Boom groaned. He started to fade out and rose toward the ceiling, spinning rapidly.

A few seconds later, Boom Boom exploded, leaving behind a pile of Coins and the final Magic Mushroom. Alex helped Luigi onto his feet while Mario and Yoshi leaped onto the central platform. Alex's Fire form wore off at the same time.

"How hurt are you?" Alex asked Luigi.

"Not too bad," Luigi replied, brushing his overalls off. "But that was some battle! I mean, Boom Boom really meant business!"

While Luigi talked with Alex, Mario collected all the Coins scattered across the floor.

"I'm so glad you're okay, bro," Mario said. "You and Alex did great!"

"Thank you, Mario," Luigi thanked Mario.

"There's the last Magic Mushroom!" Alex squealed, pointing at the Magic Mushroom. "We got them all!"

"Wahoo!" "Yay!" "Oh boy!" Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi cheered with joy. Following the short celebration, Mario gave Alex the pouch.

"Here you go, buddy," Mario said. "You have the honors of keeping the Magic Mushrooms safe."

"Thanks," Alex thanked Mario as he slung the pouch over his shoulders. Mario took the red Magic Mushroom and placed it in the pouch.

"All right-y. Now what?" Luigi asked. Before anyone could answer, a bright white light shined from the ceiling.

"Look up, guys!" Mario declared. "That light means we're being taken to Bowser's hideout!"

Everyone looked up at the light and began to fly upward before fading away. With all six Magic Mushrooms in their possession, all that Mario and friends need to do are to get rid of Bowser's Boo army and save Peach from his grasp.
