The feeling in the bedroom is heavy and I know that Rose can hear my heart pounding in my chest. "There is something to talk about," I say quietly, more to myself than her. Rose shifts around on my chest, rubbing her cheek against the material of my shirt before sighing heavily. I run my fingers through her hair as I listen to her breathing, and by the sound of it, I can tell she is forcing herself to breathe normally. I reach my arm over and turn the bedside lamp on making Rose flinch from the sudden light.
Rose grumbles and pushes herself up from my chest, sitting on my lap with her hands on my abdomen and her eyes downcast. I reach up carefully and cup her cheek, wiping the stray tear she missed that hid in her lashes. "Talk to me. Please, Roza," I say, mindful of the fact that everyone else in the house is asleep. Rose swallows loudly and sighs, looking up at the ceiling with her tilted back.
I sit up and cup her face, pulling her back to look at me. The look on her face is a mixture of her mask and panic, but she won't look me in the eyes. I watch her lips move but whatever she is saying is too low to comprehend. I shake my head slowly, moving my head to catch her gaze. "I didn't hear you, say that again."
"I said I don't want to lose you," she whispers as her eyes finally meet mine. I rest my head against hers and slide my hands down her neck, pulling her against my chest in a gentle embrace. Her hands fist into the back of my shirt and her breath washes over my face in choppy breaths.
"You aren't going to lose me, sweetheart," I whisper. The statement doesn't seem to comfort her because a small whimper leaves her lips and she presses her head into my shoulder, her arms moving to wrap around my neck. I press my lips to her head and rub my hands over her back.
"If you reallocate, I'll never get to see you! I only get to see you a handful of times during school season, but if you come back here, I will get to see you maybe once a year!" Rose sniffles into my arm. I sigh and kick myself mentally. If I had known this was the reaction I would pull from her, I wouldn't have voiced the thought.
I've dealt with bouts of homesickness so many times and the closer we get to leaving, the more I feel the impending sickness. "Roza look at me," I say. Rose lifts her head a moment later, her large eyes full of tears and I shake my head at her again, kissing her nose. "It was just a thought, Roza, I'm not going anywhere but home, with you," I soothe, brushing my lips over hers softly.
Rose leans into my lips and lets a small sigh pass her lips as her hand comes up to my face. "If you really want to stay here, I wouldn't force you to go back," Rose croaks but I press my lips to hers again, silencing any other protests. I couldn't leave her behind if my life depended on it.
I lay back down and wincing at the loud creek the springs make under our weight. "It's just a bit of homesickness," I whisper to her as she tucks her head under my chin. I play with the hem of her shirt before slipping my hand underneath it, caressing the skin of her back, smirking to myself as the gesture makes her shiver.
Rose moves around and makes herself more comfortable on my chest, hooking one leg over my hip and the other straightening out and rubbing the top of her foot against my leg. A gesture I've noticed she does when she wants to comfort herself when she's stressed or upset. I brush her hair away from her face and stroke the skin below her jaw. "Something else is on your mind," I say.
Rose's foot stops for a moment before the action picks up again. "I have lost so many people in my life already. But I'm scared that you would resent me after a while," Rose whispers, the speed of her foot moving increases. I squeeze my arms around her and kiss the top of her head. I could never resent her and knowing that she is scared hurts.
"I plan on spending the rest of my life with you, nothing is going to change you being a part of my life."
Rose nods her head in understanding before untucking her head, reaching her neck up to reach my lips. I meet her halfway and seal with mouth against hers, trying to pour as much love into it as I can. I release her mouth and rub my nose against hers, making her giggle quietly.
"I love you," she says with a small smile. I hum and kiss her forehead, "I love you too."
Rose smiles and yawns before tucking her head down on my chest. "Now go to sleep, we do have a long day tomorrow.
I force myself not to laugh at my friend as he sits across the coffee table from me, knee bouncing as he rests his elbows on his knees while he stares at me. "Well, are you going to show me!?" Christian exclaims in half-whisper, looking over his shoulder at the front door. He has been on edge since Rose and Lissa left twenty minutes ago. I let a chuckle slip as I lean back into the couch, digging into my pocket for the well-worn box. I pull it out and set it down on the table. Christian snatches it up quickly and opens it.
"You know, with the way you are acting, one would think the ring was for Lissa,"
"Bite me," Christian mumbles as he looks at the ring in his hands, a small smile crossing his lips. "And for your information, I do love Rosie even if she is a pain in my ass. She is Lissa's best friend, she has started to rub off on me," Christian adds a moment later. I cross my ankles and arms as I watch him, the small smile turning into a full, goofy smile. Christian looks up from the ring and nods his head at me enthusiastically.
"It doesn't match her day to day style, but I know she is going to love this," Christian says snapping the lid close and reaching across to give it back to me. I smile and take it from him just as the front door opens. Both Christian and I jump as the girls come back in, Rose looking a little annoyed.
Rose comes over and plonks down on the couch beside me. "Lissa forgot her wallet and she has to go to the bathroom," Rose huffs, blowing hair that has fallen out of her ponytail out of her face. I flick my eyes over to Christian before looking back at Rose, running my hand over her knee.
Rose may not know how to cook much, but she can make eggs, and at this very moment she is doing so while only wearing one of my t-shirts. I watch her as she stands in front of the stove, head bobbing to the radio playing some song about red and taking revenge on a lover, singing along loudly and off-key. As much as I love when Roza wears her hair down, I also love it when she wears her hair up like she is now; piled messily on top of her head while a few straggling curls hang down around her neck and face.
I walk up behind her quietly and slide my hands over her waist, coming around and resting on her stomach, pressing my lips to the soft spot behind her ear. Rose shrieks playfully and squirms in my grip, rubbing herself against me in all the right places.
"Dimitri stop! I'm going to burn the eggs!" Rose squeals as one of my hands move lower, my fingertips brushing on the soft skin at the top of her thigh. I reach my other hand out and turn off the burner before pulling her away from the stove. Rose spins around in my arms and wraps her arms around my neck, stretching up on her toes to get closer to my face. I smirk at her and move my hands down to rest on her round butt, pressing kisses to her lips and neck. Rose lets her head fall back with a sigh, her fingers toying with the loose hair at the back of my neck.
"I don't want to go back to Lehigh next week," she moans quietly, and I chuckle against her skin. That's funny, just last night she expressed that she was excited to go back.
I brush my lips slowly up her neck to her ear, squeezing the firm flesh beneath my hands as I do so. "Why's that?" I ask, my breath brushing over her and making her shiver. Rose lifts her head back up and looks at me with a playful look, pulling my head up to her by her grip in my hair. "Because, it means I won't get to see you unless you and Christian make a trip up there," she breathes.
I smirk and press my lips to her mouth, stealing whatever was about to come out of her mouth. Rose releases her grip from my hair and grips my shoulders, using them as leverage to jump up and wrap her legs around my waist. I move my hands to support her and lean back against the fridge. "What about your breakfast," I joke as her lips move against my neck. Rose nips at the skin below my jaw and squeezes her legs.
"Forget about it."
I hum and twist a hand into her hair and direct her lips back to mine, savouring the taste of coffee on her tongue. I pull away from the fridge and walk into the living room, depositing Rose onto the couch with a laugh. I take a chance to look around the room, taking silent pride in how well the things that were in my apartment mix so well Rose's.
A few days after Rose almost seeing the ring, I pondered asking her to move in with me and when I brought it up to her, she nearly gave me a heart attack when she said no. I stared at her until she cracked up and said that my apartment was too small, and she herself was going to ask me to move in with her.
So that's what I did.
Back to what is right in front of me, well who was in front of me, I give her a smirk and kneel in front of the couch by her. Rose scoots to the edge of the couch, pulling her shirt over her head and tossing it to the floor. I grip her calves and pull her legs apart and move into the space between them, capturing her lips again. Rose's nimble fingers curl into my hair and tugs gently, pulling a growl from my throat and I run my fingers under the waistband of her panties. I hook my finger into them and pull away from her and drag the scrape of material over her legs.
Rose give me an excited look as I pull my shirt over my head, biting her lip as her eyes track my movements. I loosen the strings on my sweats before running my hands up her legs again, placing open-mouthed kisses over her thighs before pulling her knees up to rest on my shoulders, moving closer to where I want to be. I lap at her pearl hungrily as she moans and withers around me, rocking her hips towards me as she climbs higher.
I knead her hips and hold her closer to me when a shriek echoes through the room. One that doesn't belong to Rose.
"Oh my god! I'm so sorry!" Lissa yells as she slams the front door shut. I snap my head up to look at the now shut door and then look at Rose, who looks mortified.
"I forgot that she has a key," Rose groans, tilting her head against the couch. I chuckle at her for a moment before rubbing my palms over her hips again, her legs still shaking against my shoulder. I keep my eyes on her as I lower my head back down, darting my tongue against her sweet flesh.
Rose moans and her thighs clench as I continue to work my lips and tongue against her body. She starts to wiggle, and I grip her tightly.
Lissa keeps giving me odd looks across the table while she sips her latte, and I flush from embarrassment. After Rose and I finished our lustful morning she called Lissa and asked for her and Christian to meet for coffee.
Christian raises his eyebrows at me, gesturing to Lissa's flustered look and Rose's giggle. I shake my head at him, I'm not about to tell him while Lissa and Rose are staring at me. I listen to the three of them talk before there is a break in topic with Christian.
I tap his arm and tilt my head towards him. "Lissa came by this morning and Rose and I were, well, busy," I whisper to Christian. He sits back and looks at me, then to Lissa and Rose. A fit of laughter erupts from him and it pulls the girls from their conversation, both looking at Christian.
I groan and cover my face with my hands with a huff while he laughs to the point of hysteria, clutching his stomach and doubling over in his chair.
"Are you done?" I grumble through my hands. I can hear Christian choking through his laughter, hiccupping and sputtering. "I'm sorry, you but you and Rose have bad luck with people barging into your bedroom!" Christian chortles, wiping his eyes with his fingers. I look at Rose who is trying to fight the smirk that is trying to spread across her lips.
Christian sobers up quickly. "Crap," he says and raises his head in a subtle gesture. I look about Rose's head to see Tasha wandering by with her cup of coffee. I groan internally and pray to God that she will just pass and not notice us.
Christian warned me that Tasha was coming to visit and gave me the week off to avoid running into her, but Court is only so big.
"Oh Christian, I thought you had plans today," Tasha says leaning on the back of Rose's chair. Thankfully, the back of the chair was high, and she couldn't see who was sitting in it until now. Tasha's eyes flick to me before looking down at Rose sitting in the chair, a grimace on her face.
Christian clears his throat and sits up in his chair. "Hi Aunt Tasha and yes, I do have plans," Christian says, indicating to Rose and I. Tasha nods but I can tell by the look on her face that she is less than impressed. I let my eyes linger on Rose who has her lips screwed together and she look around us, probably wishing she were anywhere but near Tasha. The tension around us is awkward while Christian and Tasha make small talk, Christian clearly trying to get Tasha to leave.
Rose rolls her eyes and shifts in her chair, pulling her leg up and tucking it under herself while she leans to the side. I move my eye back up as someone bumps into Tasha and she lets go of the steaming cup in her hands and watch it land directly in Rose's lap. Rose hisses and cups out of the chair and grabs the napkins off the table, wiping the scalding liquid from her bare legs. Unfortunately, she chose to wear shorts instead of jeans today. I jump up and head to the counter to ask the barista for a cool cloth before coming back and handing it to Rose, Tasha already out the door.
Rose takes the cloth from me with an appreciative smile and holds it against her thighs, mumbling under her breath the whole time. "She didn't even bother to apologize," Rose mutters, sitting back down in the chair.
I groan and roll over, shielding my eyes from the sun that is creeping through the sliver in the curtains. I stretch my free arm out towards Rose, but my hand makes contact with cool sheets instead. I sit up and see her sitting at the end of the bed, hunched over slightly. I sit up and reach for her and she jumps when my hand lands on her shoulder.
Rose whips her head around as whatever she has in her hands clatters to the ground. Rose jumps up and picks it up, pulling her hands behind her back. She has an odd look on her face as well.
"Roza? What is it?" I ask, moving to sit at the end of the bed, pulling her towards me by her hips. Rose bites her lip and looks down at her feet.
"I promise I wasn't snooping," Rose whispers. She pulls her hands out from behind her back, and my eyes zero in on the box that holds my Babushka's ring. I frown a little and take it from her hands. How could have possibly found where I hid it.
I look at her with a raised brow, believing that she wasn't snooping, but still surprised that she found it.
"I was grabbing a pair of socks out of the dresser and shut it a little too roughly. I heard something fall behind the dresser so I moved it to grab it, thinking it was something important. I didn't expect to find that," she says and runs her hand through her hair. I set the box on the bed beside me and take Rose's hands in mine, pulling her down in my lap.
I pull her hands away from her hair and rub my thumbs across the back of her hands, kissing her cheek. "It's ok. It wasn't the greatest hiding place, I just hadn't found a better one yet," I say and give her a small kiss.
Rose leans into my lips and pulls a hand free of mine, cupping the back of my neck. I pull away a moment later and peck her lips again. "But you should know, I hadn't planned on using that for a while," I say when Rose's eyes fall back to the box.
"Really?"
I chuckle and squeeze her leg playfully. "Yes. You said you wanted to be in your twenties before we get engaged. Not to mention you are in school on top of guarding Lissa. You have a lot on your plate and need to focus on that first," I say and tuck her hair behind her ear.
Rose looks at me for a few moments and then back down at the box. "Well, can I look at it? I know it's probably wrong, but I mean I know about it now," Rose inquires with an excited look on her face. I laugh and pick up the box and hand it to her. Rose takes it and bites her lip as she opens it.
I sit and watch her while waiting for a reaction, but her face is blank. I start to worry that she doesn't like it, but she lifts her eyes up to me and a big grin spreads across her lips. "This is gorgeous! It's not something I ever would have thought I'd like, but I love it!" Rose exclaims and throws her arms around my neck, knocking both of us back into the mattress. I smile and wrap my arms around her waist as she sits up in my lap, still holding the ring box. Rose leans down and kisses me again.
Rose closes the box and hands it back to me. I stretch my arm back and put it on the bedside table, mentally making a note to find a better place to put it. I turn back to Rose and find an elated look on her face. "I think we should celebrate," Rose purrs and I raise my brow at her.
"Celebrate what?"
Rose lifts her shirt over her head and tosses it over the bed, leaning down on her arms and placing a kiss on my lips. "I found an engagement ring and didn't run for the hills. That is something to celebrate," Rose murmurs with a slight chuckle. I laugh with her before flipping her onto her back and settle myself between her thighs.
Am I forgiven yet?
I apologize if there are any errors, I didn't want to make you wait any longer for another update. And the only reason I got this chapter out now is because TheLittleSubmission let me voice my ideas and thoughts to her.
