"You need to let me see him" Carla states folding her arms across her chest "I mean it Michelle"
"You will see him but Carla you only came out of hospital yesterday, please take it easy" Michelle sighs knowing it would be hard to get her friend to cooperate, she didn't want her to get stressed and then end up in hospital with Peter as well "Come on he would want you to put the baby first"
"I know that" she snaps, Michelle raises her eyebrows knowing it was probably her hormones "Sorry, it's just I need to see him"
"From what I've heard he's not even awake"
"Still he might wake if I'm there"
"Carla, you're not going to the hospital" Michelle states, Carla just grunts in annoyance knowing she was right, she did need to take it easy, she knew she should put her daughter first, somehow she was prioritising a man over her baby and she felt disgusted by her heart calling out for her to do that "Why don't I make you some breakfast?"
"I'm fine ta"
"Carla"
"Ok fine" she raises her hands in defence knowing she would be defeated, either way, Michelle would get her to eat something even if she didn't want to, yet again she was putting Peter first instead of herself and her baby "I will have anything with barbeque sauce"
"It's eight in the morning" Michelle pulls a face, Carla just glares, she needed her cravings otherwise she wouldn't function for the rest of the day "Ok…ok I will get you something with barbeque sauce if it shuts you up"
"Thank you" she sighs dramatically, Michelle just rolls her eyes, he internally, laughed knowing Carla liked to tease her relentlessly in the past about her cravings with Ryan "Go to sleep"
"What?"
"Her" she points her to bump, she was starting to get rather annoyed, a lack of sleep and hormones were never a good mix "Kept me up all night doing some form of contortion in there, I'm fed up"
"So today's going to be a great hormonal day for all involved then? Snapping…crying the lot really"
"Shut up" she snaps, Michelle raises her eyebrows before chuckling slightly, she places a plate of toast down in front of her with a little bowl of barbeque sauce
"And it looks like I was right…"
Michelle spent the morning with a hormonal Carla, she was making sure her friend was fed and well looked after, she also made sure that her friend took her medication which was provided by the hospital so she would continue to get better. Of course, a call came through from the hospital about Peter being awake and Carla was just too eager to go. Michelle finally relented on the condition that if she had one ache or pain she would be back home and in bed, after all, if something did happen then they would be in hospital anyway so in a way Michelle felt somewhat safe about taking Carla to see Peter.
They arrived in the hospital, it was like a maze of never-ending corridors, they finally located the ICU and Carla immediately rushed in to see Peter. The cuts had cleared up and he looked better apart from the internal injuries and the weakened muscles which he would have. She just stood in the doorway of the room, she didn't know if she was scared to approach him, whether she was afraid she would hurt him so just staring seemed like the right thing to do right now. She watched him carefully, watching as he opened his eyes, she just stood still, it was like she was rooted to the ground.
"Carla"
"Hello" she grits out, stretching her fingers from where they were clutching onto the jacket she was wearing
"Are you mad at me?"
"No" she shakes her head "Why would I be?"
"I just get the impression"
"Well I'm not" she sighs taking a seat on the seat which was provided, she knew she had to be honest about what happened to the baby a couple of weeks prior "You being in here stresses me out a lot I don't need to stress getting mad over you as well"
"Are you ok?"
"I'm fine, we're both fine" she states taking her coat off, he catches sight of the ring, maybe she would finally accept his proposal, he didn't want to push her though, he would never push her to do something she didn't want to do "We had a scare but we're ok"
"A scare?"
"Yeah I was bleeding again…heavily and then I was rushed into hospital because I thought I was losing her but it turns out that she was fine and I was just overworked and stressed"
"I'm sorry about being in here, that probably didn't help"
"It's not your fault" she smiles slightly taking his hand he glances to the ring, he had to say something, he was internally excited at the prospect of her finally coming to terms and accepting his proposal
"You have the ring on"
"I was scared" she admits, Peter nods slowly not really knowing where this was going, he knew she had been through a lot since he had been in here so that was probably why she was scared "I was scared that I was going to lose you and this was the only way I could remember the commitment you had to both of us, of you"
"Oh, love" he coughs slightly she gets up and grabs a glass of water and poises it to his lips, he was thankful, ever so thankful that she was here, he still cared immensely about her
"Do you remember anything?"
"No not really" he replies dismissively, Carla narrows her eyes wondering if he was telling the truth, she didn't want to press for information though, after all, she knew what it was like being in here with people hounding you for information, she didn't want to be that person "I don't"
"Right" Carla frowns "I guess you did get knocked on the head, you're probably struggling to remember"
"Yeah" he smiles slightly, he takes her hand "Shouldn't you go home and rest?"
"I guess I should" she muses taking his hand and placing it on her bump, the baby reacting to the presence of its father from inside the room, it was weird, it was like it knew to move "Say hi to Daddy little 'un"
"Oh," Peter smiles, the movements were stronger mind you, she was bigger now "She's very active isn't she now?"
"Yeah she kept me up all night last night so I kind of want to get off and head to sleep"
"Yeah take care of yourself for me yeah? Any little twinges pains or anything like that let Michelle know ok?"
"I will" Carla sighs in response, she didn't want to leave but at the same time she did, she didn't know why she felt so odd about the whole thing, so numb "Anyway I'll see you when I see you"
"Yeah bye…" he trails off, he didn't receive a kiss, he didn't receive any affection maybe she was finding this situation more difficult than she was letting on…
She felt numb, she didn't want to question whether she still loved Peter, she was pretty sure she did but there was something about the situation which made her judge everything which made her want to put her daughter first. When she saw him lying on the bed she became sceptical, her heart loved him so much but ever since getting involved with Peter her life had become disastrous, the only thing positive from it was the conception of her daughter, she would never regret what happened because if she did she felt like she would be saying that she regretted her baby but she didn't, she loved her more than the world. At this point, deep in the depths of her body, she knew she shouldn't crave the love and affection Peter gave her because that's not what life was about, that's what she didn't want her life to be about, she wanted her life to be powerful and ambitious as well as to mother her baby and put her first. Maybe being with Peter would get in the way of all that, it had so far...
