So, this is officially my most reviewed story, which is really weird. It's beaten How to Become a Friend, and that has, like seven times the favorites and sixteen times the views... huh *shrugs*.
Next little story arc has to do with Hiccup's first trap. Enjoy!
Entry 19
Berk has set out for the Dragons' Nest once again.
This is something that happens a lot in the warmer months, and something that my father has been obsessed with my entire life. And now, with summer already on its way out after a mere month, he wants to get as many searches in as possible before the snow comes back.
That means that half the island is going to be gone for the next couple weeks, leaving just the children, elders, and those too weak or injured to travel. Which also means I'm going to have the forge, and my house, to myself for a while. The perfect opportunity to finally finish my projects!
As for the Nest… they're not going to find it. They've been looking for way longer than I've even been alive, and have never come close. Apparently, there's a perpetual wall of fog surrounding the dragons' island for miles, and it's impossible not to get lost. Well, if the dragons don't get to you first, that is. Stories of ships that never returned are a big part of my people's folklore, and even I've been witness to a few ships that don't look like ships anymore by time they get back. But still, my dad won't give up on looking. He believes that if we can find the Nest and take it over, then the dragons will leave and not raid Berk anymore. Sounds plausible enough, I guess, but like I said, it's been tens of years. If they haven't found it by now, I don't think it's ever going to be found. I don't even know if it's actually REAL. Maybe the dragons that raid us just happen to be flying by when they do. But my dad, and lots of other Vikings, swear on it. Say that you can SMELL the beasts once you enter the fog.
But if I'm completely honest, the only reason I think Dad truly is so obsessed with this is because he believes that, somehow, he can avenge Mom. That if he can find the dragons and make them go away, then she wouldn't have died for nothing.
And who am I to try and stop him?
Until next time…
