Don and Gilda watched Emma closely all the next day as she did her usual newly doubled exercises and carried around more of the children than usual. When she raced off to meet up with Norman and Ray they hesitated a bit.
Should they tell Mom about what Emma said last night or should they wait and give her a chance to be proven either wrong or right?
Thankfully it seemed like Mom had something else to focus on right now as she left Gilda in charge of the babies and walked towards the gate.
"Tell me honestly. What do you think we should do? Give Emma a chance or just go ahead and tell Mom that she's sick?" Don asked looking at Gilda who had been joined by Nat and Anna who both looked worried and confused too.
"We said we'd give her a chance and she hadn't seemed concerned with us turning her into Mom if she was wrong. So let's give her a chance. If the ones she described don't show up by night-time, then we'll tell Mom." Gilda said as she adjusted her grip on little Nathan who seemed sleepy this morning. He must have been up all night, which meant Mom had been up taking care of him or the other babies he woke up.
Gilda thought it kind of amazing how Mom could be up all-night taking care of the babies and still look like her usual pristine self.
"Alright." Don agreed although he didn't look to happy about it. If Emma was sick and it was messing with her head, then she probably needed medical attention immediately! Not waiting several hours that she might not have if her condition was bad enough to make her think she was from the future.
"At least if she is from the future…it would explain some things." Nat said rubbing his chin slightly as he considered it.
"Like what?" Thoma asked looking up at Nat who glanced down at him and hesitated for a moment.
"Well the most obvious is her test scores. She's scored perfectly on all of them even when she was little. Naturally if she's from the future then she went through all of this before and already knew what the answers were and were more used to the more advanced leveled ones than the ones we're given as six year olds. It would also explain how she's able to get the tests done so fast since she already knows the questions and answers." Nat said and Don and Gilda both had to admit that he had a point there. After all Emma was usually done faster than anyone else, even Norman!
"And…I mentioned it the other day remember? She's the only one I know of who still sleeps in Mom's bed on a rather frequent basis despite being over the age of eight. Even most of the eight-year olds don't sleep in Mom's bed even if they have nightmares, they crawl into bed with Norman, Emma, Don or Gilda. Not Mom." Nat said and here he definitely looked hesitant as he brought that up.
"Yeah. She has those frequent nightmares…doesn't she call out peoples names sometimes? I've heard mine, Norman's, Ray's, Don's, Phil's, Connie's, Jemime's, Thoma's, Lani's, Yvette's, Anna's, someone named Yuugo, a person named Musica, and someone named Lucas…and she calls out for Mom a lot too. That's why she generally sleeps in Mom's bed. Because listening to Mom's heartbeat helps stave off the nightmares." Gilda said and she frowned a little as her mind began to tick over to the implications of that.
"Well…I don't think she'd dream of something bad happening to everyone and random people so frequently for no reason…and…if her mind really did come from the future…do you think it'd come back in time if she were in a happy future?" Nat said and all of them were silent for a moment as they thought about that.
"Something bad happened. Something happened and she came back and she's going to stop it but she still has those memories…that's what causes her nightmares and why she's so clingy with everyone sometimes and trains so hard….that's why she was looking really sad when Connie left." Anna said and her voice was whispered and hoarse as she realized that. Said aloud what they had all realized.
"Then why doesn't she want to tell Mom or Norman or Ray?" Don asked frowning and wondering about that.
"I don't know…maybe she figures that we can help her somehow to be prepared or stop whatever will happen? Maybe she doesn't want to worry Mom and Norman and Ray would both do anything for her and she knows it. Maybe she thinks it's because of her that something, whatever it was, happened to them? So she doesn't want to burden them and make them worry more about her and not pay attention to themselves." Gilda said and her brow was furrowed as she thought through all the possible reasons of why Emma wouldn't tell Mom and her two best friends.
"This is all being based on the idea that she really did come from the future. Even if what Nat said about her being plagued by nightmares so much and knowing so much about the tests and all is true and would make sense if she came back in time…we're still jumping the gun a bit. We haven't met the two new people who were supposed to be arriving today according to her. For all we know she might have a mental disorder that makes her smarter than normal but gives her vivid nightmares and delusions." Don said but Thoma tugged on his shirt.
"But Don…look." Thoma said as he and Lani pointed to where Mom was coming back up the hill towards the house. All of the older kids looked and felt their eyes widen a bit.
Mom wasn't alone. In her arms was a tiny year-old baby with fair skin and reddish hair.
And just a little behind Mom holding a suitcase was a tall well-muscled woman with dark skin.
They matched the exact appearances of the people Emma had told them about last night. Carol and Krone.
"Kids we have some new people joining our family. Let me call everyone together and I'll introduce you to your new baby sister and the good Sister here." Mom said smiling at the older kids who had their eyes glued to the two new members of the family.
Mom walked right by them to get her bell and ring it, summoning all of the kids even if there was still a bit of playtime left.
"Okay…I'll admit it…there is no way in hell Emma should have been able to give us accurate descriptions of those two and when exactly they would be here unless she either learned about it from Mom beforehand or came from the future." Don said after the two adults had done walked past them into the house and Mom had rang the bell.
"Mom never tells us when we have a new sibling joining us until they get here though." Gilda pointed out and the other four nodded.
"So Mama Emma is from the future and came to change some stuff huh?" Lani asked as he and Thoma glanced at one another.
"Seems that way." Thoma agreed.
"Well…we'd better meet up with her later and figure out what we can do to help then." Anna said nodding her head in agreement with the boys as the kids started gathering around the house and going in, Emma coming from the woods with the two boys and she didn't look surprised in the least.
Ray and Norman looked confused and a bit worried, Emma however was completely calm.
Something that further proved her claim to the other six.
