The Doctor didn't know what to feel as he parked the TARDIS in the vortex and made his way to his bedroom. He stood in the doorway and watched as Rose slept. On the one hand he was sad to let Donna go, she had become like a sister to him, on the other hand he was elated that he was finally not alone anymore.
He could feel Roses mind brushing against his and smiled to himself. All those years he had travelled and he had no idea that this was what he was looking for, this is what finally made him feel whole again. Rose's mind brushed against his again as she stirred in the bed. The Doctor stripped to his boxers and slipped under the sheets and pulled her against him as he felt her slip back into the healing coma.
It was three days before he felt Rose's mind stirring again. During that time he had developed a parental telepathic bond with Jenny and assured her that as soon as Rose woke again, the bond will attach to her as well. He had also spent the time setting up different rooms so he could teach Rose how to control her new senses.
The Doctor was in the gallery, having breakfast with Jenny when he felt Rose's mind waking up. His head snapped up suddenly as he grinned.
Jenny's head snapped to his as she felt another mind against the parental bond and she grinned back at the Doctor. "Mums awake," she stated unnecessarily.
The Doctor nodded. "Yes, she is," he agreed.
Jenny started packing up her breakfast dishes and placed them in the sink. "I'll just leave the two off you alone," she explained.
The Doctor frowned. "You don't need to," he explained. "I'm sure your mum would love to spend time with you."
Jenny smiled softely. "I would love to spend time with her too, finding out about her and her learning about me but you need to train her on how to use her new senses and you need time together since the marriage was so rushed."
The Doctor nodded in agreement as he watched Jenny leave the room. He placed his own dishes in the sink and moved towards his bedroom, he could feel the TARDIS's excitement as well, he knew that she had been waiting longer than him for the marriage.
He walked into the room and found the bed empty but he heard the shower turn on. He heard a cry a moment later and ran into the bathroom to find Rose, with a towel wrapped around her and staring at the shower like it had personally offended her.
Rose turned her glare on him when he let out a snort of amusement. "What's so funny?"
The Doctor tried to hold onto his amusement as he walked closer to her, to make sure she had not been hurt but Rose turned her back on him. "Don't be angry," the Doctor tried to console.
Rose turned back to him with a frown. "But the showers on the same temperature as I always use," she explained.
"Yes," the Doctor agreed. "But you now have a lower body temperature than a human," he reminded her.
Rose smiled sheepishly as she had forgotten that part. "I'd forgotten that," Rose explained as she placed a hand on either side of her chest and felt the two hearts. "The hairs gonna take a lot of getting use to as well."
The Doctor grinned back at her as he adjusted the temperature for her. "At the moment the TARDIS is dampening your senses down for you, but once your ready we can get started on teaching you how to use your new and enhanced senses."
Rose nodded her head. "Okay," she agreed before she remembered something. "What about Jenny," Rose furrowed her brow. "I can feel a bond with Jenny."
The Doctor grinned again. "I formed a parental bond with her," he explained. "It means if she's in trouble or she needs us for whatever reason she could contact us through the bond but she's still her own person."
Rose grinned again. "Will she be joining us?"
The Doctor shook his head. "I've spent the last few days teaching her, now she's giving us space so I can teach you."
"Oh," Rose seemed disappointed. "As long as well be spending sometime with her," she agreed.
The Doctor nodded his head. "Off course, wouldn't have it any other way."
While Rose readied herself for the day ahead, the Doctor walked back to the galley and started making her banana pancakes with banana jelly and fresh bananas. He could tell through their new, enhanced bond that she was craving bananas though she doesn't know yet.
Rose walked in and grinned as she saw the stacks of pancakes, the jam and fresh bananas. She sat down and dug into the food with gusto. She glanced up a moment later and found the Doctor grinning at her. Rose finished of the bite she had taken before answering his unasked question. "Sorry, didn't realise I was that hungry or that I loved bananas that much."
The Doctor shrugged. "You were out for three days so off course you'd be hungry," the Doctor answered. "You had also just regenerated which uses a lot of energy plus thanks to the new enhanced bond I could tell you were craving bananas."
Rose just shook her head at him. "Your gonna have teach me all about the bond," Rose pointed out.
The Doctor grinned unrepentantly. "The TARDIS is dampening your senses at the moment, I've set up some rooms so we could teach you how to control those senses before we start travelling again."
Rose nodded her head while she finished her breakfast. She hesitated before asking her next questions. "What happened to Donna?" Rose gasped when she suddenly felt his anguish at having to wipe Donna's memory.
The Doctor tried to tamp down on his feelings when he realised that Rose could feel them. "I'm sorry," he apoligised.
Rose placed her hand over his as she felt remorse for bringing it up. "It's alright," she assured him. "It's what the bond is for right, being able to fully share each other's burdens," Rose reminded him.
The Doctor grinned at her proudly. "Yes, it's gonna take time for both of us to learn to share everything," he assured her.
Rose patted his arm as she stood up and placed her dishes in the sink. "So come on," she urged him. "What's the first thing that your teaching me."
The Doctor grinned as he took her hand and led her to the first room. "This room is so I can teach you how to handle you enhanced senses, sight, sound, touch, smell and taste," the Doctor explained as he led her to the table set up in the middle and urged her to sit in the chair. "This room is devoid of all sensor in put so the TARDIS and I can slowly introduce you to your enhanced senses."
Rose sat in the chair and glanced around the room. "So, what now?" She questioned.
"We'll start with touch," the Doctor explained. "Now close your eyes and the TARDIS will release you sense of touch as I place things in your hand."
Rose nodded her head as she closed her eyes and waited. She felt the Doctor place something in her hands while she felt the TARDIS realeas her hold over a part of her mind. Rose couldn't help but moan as she felt the fur in her hands, it felt so much softer and silkier than she ever remembered fur feeling before.
The Doctor had to hold back his own moan as he heard Rose moaning. He added fur to his list of things that make Rose moan and watched as Rose's grin grew. That's when he realised that he had forgotten that Rose could tell what he's thinking. He quickly took the fur out of her hands and replaced it with sandpaper.
"Ow," Rose complained as she felt the sandpaper which seemed even rougher than normal.
The Doctor grimaced. "Sorry," he apoligised. "I need you to learn how to bloke certain sensations," he explained. "All you need to do is concentrate on what sensation you want to block and imagine a wall between yourself and the sensation.
Rose did as he suggested and pictured a wall between her and the rough sensation she was feeling. It took her five minutes of concentration but she finally managed to block the rough feeling. She opened her eyes and grinned at the Doctor as she wiped sweat from her brow. "I did it," she grinned.
The Doctor grinned back. "Yes, you did," he agreed. "It will take awhile though for you to do it without having to concentrate. Now we'll move onto smell," Rose wrinkled her nose and the Doctor laughed. "I'll try not to make it too smelly but the best way to learn is when you really want to block a horrible sensation."
Rose sighed as she agreed. "Fine, let's get this over with."
The Doctor grinned as he urged her to close her eyes again and he placed a bouquet of flowers in front of her. "Now, I want you to not just smell the flowers but seperate each scent and tell me what flowers are there," he explained.
Rose concentrated on the scents she was smelling as she started to pick out the different scents. "Roses," she started hesitantly. "Lavender, daisies, hycynthies," Rose concentrated even more but couldn't seem to seperate the other scents. "I can't get the rest," Rose complained as she opened her eyes.
"You missed the daffodils, orchids and the lilies," he explained. "But again, it will take time for you to learn how to seperate the different scents and pick underlying scents," the Doctor grinned suddenly. "Now to teach you how to block smells."
Rose sighed as she closed her eyes again. "Fine, lets get on with it."
The Doctor grinned as he placed a foul smelling liquid he had made in front of her. "Now, just like with touch, just block the smell with a wall."
Rose followed his instructions and 5 mins later she managed to block the foul smell. She wiped sweat from her brow as she laughed. "That was hard, but well worth it," she admitted.
The Doctor grinned as he moved them on. "Let's focus on eyesight," the Doctor explained. "Eyesight is probably the easiest because all you need to do is focus on a point, whether it's near or far and concentrate on seeing it close up, your eyesight should adjust to focus on that point.
Rose nodded as the Doctor placed different photos up in different areas of the room, some near and some far and asked her to find an object in each picture. Rose was breathing heavily as she finished the task. "It was easier to adjust my eyesight," she agreed. "But not so easy to find one object when there is so many new things to be found in photos that I have seen for years."
The Doctor agreed. "Let's move on to hearing," the Doctor continued. "I'll play sounds at different settings and try to pick up the words being said," he explained. "Then I'll play a jumble of different sounds and I want you to try and pick up each of the sounds and name them."
Rose nodded her head and closed her eyes again while the Doctor started playing sounds at different levels. She had too strain to hear the very low sounds but overall she thought she had done wonderfully and the Doctor agreed before putting on a jumble of sounds that she had to pick out. "Dog," she named since that was a promenant sound. "A river, wind through the trees, a bird."
"Which bird?" The Doctor questioned.
Rose shook her head. "I don't know," she answered before continuing. "I hear a male talking but not sure what he's saying and that's it," she finished on a sigh, she was starting to feel tired but determined to finish the tasks.
"Well done," the Doctor praised, he could tell she was becoming tired so tried to finish as quick as possible. "Next we'll move onto temperature," the Doctor explained. "I'll slowly raise the temperature and you need to concentrate on lowering your body temperature to stay comfortable."
Rose nodded her head as she closed her eyes, finding it easier to concentrate with them closed. She felt the temperature slowly rising and she furrowed her brow in concentration as she tried to keep her body temperature at a comfortable level.
She tried a few times until she could keep her bodies temperature at a comfortable for longer periods of time. Then the Doctor lowered the temperature and she continued to try and keep her body temperature at a comfortable level. By the end she had sweat dotting her brow from concentrating so much but she had finally succeeded in controlling her body temperature.
"Maybe we should rest," the Doctor suggested as he felt Rose's exhaustion. "We've been doing this for hours."
Rose shook her head. "No," she insisted. "We only have one more to do."
The Doctor sighed but agreed. "Fine, but then we're spending the rest of the time having fun."
Rose agreed so the Doctor placed three cups on the table with different liquids inside. Rose used her new sense of smell to try and tell what was in them. "What are they?"
The Doctor grinned at her suspicion. "It's nothing horrible," he assured her. "They have different flavours in each cup, you just need to try and pick out the flavours."
Rose accepted his explanation and took a sip of the first cup. She swirled it around in her mouth before swallowing it. "I tasted banana, cinnamon and a hint of nutmeg," Rose glanced to the Doctor to see if she was right.
The Doctor grinned at her. "Correct," he agreed before gesturing towards the next cup.
Rose picked it up and took a sip and swirled it around in her mouth before swallowing it. "I tasted caramel, liquiorice and peppermint?" She questioned.
The Doctor grinned. "It was caramel and peppermint but the last flavour is similar to liquiorice but found in the 62nd century," the Doctor then gestured to the third cup.
Rose took a sip from the last cup, swirled it around in her mouth before swallowing. She wrinkled her nose as she got a good taste. "Pears," she spat out in disgust while glaring at the Doctor.
"What else do you taste," the Doctor urged her.
Rose sighed and tried to get past the taste of pears but couldn't seem to, she shrugged. "I can't get the taste of pears out of my mouth."
The Doctor grinned at her as he shook his head. "You're gone have to move past tastes you do not like."
Rose just glared at him as she got up and left to get lunch ready. The Doctor laughed as he followed her to the galley.
The weeks that followed fell into a routine. The morning was spent working on her senses, including her time senses and the afternoons were spent catching up with Jenny and building their bond as a family.
It was once Rose had gotten control of her senses that the Doctor decided that it was time for them to explore their marriage bond. After breakfast, the Doctor grabbed Rose's hand and led her into a new room. "I thought today we could explore our bond."
Rose grinned as she nodded her head. "Absolutely," she agreed as she sat down on a cushion placed in the middle of the room.
The Doctor sat down across from her with their knees touching. "We don't even need to touch to be able to enter our combined mind, it also means that we know where our mates are all the time."
Rose nodded her head. "Okay," she agreed. "So how do we do it?"
The Doctor nodded his head. "Just close your eyes and imagine yourself a safe place and your safe place will be our combined consciousness."
Rose copied the Doctor and closed her eyes and thought about the safest place she knew. She suddenly found herself standing next to the Doctor in the console room of the TARDIS but it wasn't like the console room she knew. It had al sorts of corridors leading off from the room and there seemed to be a TARDIS sitting in the console room.
Rose slowly walked up to the TARDIS and placed her hand on the box as she felt the TARDIS's happiness at being connected to them both. The Doctor walked up next to her and took her hand. "This is our combined consciousness," the Doctor explained as they looked at all the corridors. "This is the TARDIS's connection with us," he explained as he pointed to the box. Then he pointed to a door with the picture of a wolf and storm on it. "This is our connection to Jenny and the rest of the corridors are our combined memories," he finished as he gestured around. "Living a long life means that you have a lot of memories, this is how Time Lords are taught to store them," he explained. "This way your mind is not overloaded with too many memories but when you need to remember something it is easy to bring forward."
It took another few weeks as Rose and the Doctor explored their bond and their bond with Jenny so they knew the limitations of each. The Doctor also helped both woman to build up their telepathic defenses.
Once the Doctor felt that both woman were ready, they started travelling again.
