Chapter 21
Harry
He was rightly and properly screwed. He was going to die here. Great. And he probably wouldn't even get the chance to kill Voldemort. Damn. That was depressing. Bellatrix had apparated him straight into a cell, shoved him, then left with a very dramatic slamming of the door. The cell was completely empty save for a bucket in the corner and an old smelly blanket which he had no intention of going near. Mmmm. Death sweet death. He could only hope to die before Voldemort killed him. No one seemed to be coming for him, although it had only been a few hours. Or had it been longer?
He couldn't tell anymore. Harry resisted the urge to slam his head against the stone wall. This was a very horrible situation and there didn't seem to be anyway out. Usually when he got himself into these kinds of situations there was some type of hope. But not here...no he had no way to escape and no wand. Because he'd left it in Snape's flat. Shit. His life was shit. At least Bagel was (probably) safe with Lyra. That was good. Sort of. Harry wondered who else had been Bellatrix's accomplices in kidnapping him. The door creaked open and Harry scrambled up. Not quite sure why he bothered. A Death Eater whom he did not know walked in with a bowl of something gooey and a jug of water.
"Gotta keep you alive before the sacrifice." the Death Eater told him, dropping the stuff on the floor. "Eat up boy." Then he was gone. And Harry was alone, again. As he ate he thought back on the words the Death Eater had said. Sacrifice. Sacrifice. That sounded bad. Why would Voldemort use him for a sacrifice instead of just killing him outright? He threw the now empty bowl down. Shit.
Ginny
Muggle transportation was beyond terrifying. Lyra was beyond terrifying. She'd had no idea Muggle transportation went this fast.
"We're almost there!" Lyra called from up front. Hermione muttered something that Ginny didn't catch. They were now passing through the countryside, without a house in sight. Ten minutes later Lyra slammed on the brake and they lurched forward.
"We should stop for the night." Lyra said.
"But we have to find them!" Hermione said.
"I know! But we can't do that if we're completely exhausted. Draco's already asleep." Lyra said to them.
"He is!" Hermione unbuckled and leaned forward. "Oh...alright. Not for too long though." Lyra was already stretching out and leaning her head back. Bagel jumped into the backseat and leaned his head against Ginny's thigh. She closed her eyes, trying to keep the tears from escaping. She knew she was being a brat. But if Harry died...she just couldn't imagine that. Over these past weeks she'd fallen for him and his stupid little quirks. Like the way he walked into things when he was distracted, or would fall right out of his seat if he was startled. His sideways smile, and tilt of head. They'd never even gotten the chance to kiss. There was no way she was going to be able to sleep tonight.
The next morning Ginny was awakened (she had fallen asleep somewhere in the middle of the night) by the car lurching forward.
"Where are we going?" she asked sleepily.
"To funkytown." Lyra replied. Merlin what was with this girl?
"A town, to look for a newspaper." Draco said.
"To see if there's been any weird killings or sightings or... something." Hermione said. Ginny swallowed thickly.
"Great. Do we have any water?" Hermione wordlessly handed her a bottle. She muttered a thanks and took a large gulp.
"Stop!" Draco yelled. The car came to a slamming halt. "Town." Draco said. Ginny had a feeling he was running on autopilot. Something about his voice sounded off, stiff. The four of them plus Bagel got out of the car and walked into the small town. Ginny wasn't able to appreciate the beautiful stone buildings or flowers, she was very very distracted. Her stomach was in such a tight knot she was scared that all her organs were now twisted together.
"Hello sir, might we bother you for directions to a newspaper stand?" Lyra asked a man walking by. He stopped and surveyed them, then pointed up the street wordlessly.
"Thank you." Lyra said. They continued on their way up, and the knot got tighter and tighter.
"Here it is." Lyra murmured. A newspaper stand with a bored looking boy in front of it, stood at the corner of the street.
"How much for one?" Lyra asked. The boy held up three fingers. Lyra handed him the money and took a newspaper. All of them huddled around it, searching for some sort of clue. There was something odd about the newspaper...It's letters seemed to be moving. No story stayed in the same place, no word.
"Bloody hell." Lyra breathed. Draco swore viciously and Ginny's gaze shot up. A line of people were walking towards them, none of them saying a word. Twenty steps. Ten steps. Five steps. Ginny's breaths came faster and faster. Two steps. They were surrounding them now, forming a ring around them. No one said anything. She hardly dared to breath. Hermione grabbed her hand and squeezed. Ginny really hoped they weren't about to die. A small boy in the nearest to Ginny, reached a hand out to touch her. She backed away into an old woman who grabbed her.
"Hey!" She began to panic, twisting, trying to get out of her grasp. But she held on tight, pressing Ginny against her chest like she was trying to crack her in two.
"Let me go." she wheezed.
"A Weasley." The woman's voice was rough and low, a man's. "Lovely. Right on time for the sacrifice. We'll save you a seat." Sacrifice. Sacrifice. There were a million questions firing themselves through her brain. All of her thoughts swirled and danced around in her head. Other townspeople had grabbed Lyra, Draco, and Hermione. Bagel was nowhere in sight. Please get as far away from here as possible. She silently begged him. They stayed in that position for what felt like hours, Ginny was sweating and her bladder was about to burst. Everyone was silent. A thunderous crack sounded through the air and Lyra let out a little squeak. Death Eaters approached and violently ripped Ginny away from her captors arms.
"Time to prepare for the sacrifice." he hissed in her air. She was sick all over him. He cringed in disgust and wiped the vomit away with a wave of his wand. He flicked his wand again and they disapparated.
Harry
So maybe things could get worse. His bladder might explode, and that would certainly be unpleasant. He had to pee so badly. No one had come back, and he gradually grew more and more panicked. And now he had to pee. Of course he did. And he couldn't stop thinking about the "sacrifice". He wanted to know what was going on. He wanted to get out of here. Finally, he could take it no longer, and peed in the bucket in the corner of the room. His life sucked. It sucked, a lot. Everything sucked. Not Ginny, Ginny was perfect. Ginny...he was going to die without ever kissing his girlfriend. Was she his girlfriend? They'd never quite figured that out. Voices sounded from outside his cell and he crept closer to the door.
"The Dark Lord said not to harm him." said a low male voice.
"Why has he not killed the boy outright?" replied another male voice, although higher.
"The sacrifice! The Dark Lord is going to use the boy as a sacrifice to make himself more powerful!" Harry stumbled back from the door quickly, his heart pounding furiously in his chest. He was going to be sacrificed in some ritual, it sounded like to make Voldemort more powerful. The food he'd eaten earlier was rising back up his throat. He raced to the bucket and puked his guts up. He wasn't ready to die.
Draco
Before the Town
He'd never dreamed he would cry over Harry bloody Potter. But here he was. Doing his best to muffle the sounds in his jumper. He should have been there, despite what Hermione said he should have been there. Snape might be with him, but that was a small comfort. Snape and Harry would probably kill each other before Voldemort got the chance. Funny how some weeks at Hogwarts could change his perspective on everything. He'd just wanted to do something good before Voldemort killed him. And now...Voldemort was going to kill Harry. Voldemort was going to take away another good thing in this world. Someone who'd he'd come to care for beyond belief.
"Draco?" Hermione's voice jolted him out of his thoughts. He thought about ignoring her, but she'd already seen him at his worst, what twice? What was one more time?
"I'm fine." he rasped.
"Get out of the car with me." Was all she said as she opened her door and hopped out. Draco did the same, following her to where she now sat. They were on the side of the road, a great expanse of road and stars before them. She didn't say anything as she leaned her head against his shoulder.
"Harry's really lucky to have you." She said softly after a while.
"I don't know about that." Was the only thing he could think to say.
"It's true. Everything's been so hard for him, and you-you saved him. At the beginning of the year. And you're always there for him, and…" she trailed off. He pressed a kiss to the side of her head.
"I don't deserve you." he whispered into her hair.
"You deserve the whole world Draco." she replied. They held onto each other for the rest of the night, each other their only comfort while the world around them went to hell.
Ginny
She was separated from the others. She was all alone in a room with a Death Eater, and she was probably going to die. Ginny was held by a body binding curse to a chair, while the Death Eater circled around her. He wasn't saying anything, just walking around her in circles, it was starting to make her dizzy. Which was really the least of her worries at the moment. The door to the dimly lit room swung open and another masked Death Eater walked in.
"We're doing it tonight. What the hell are you doing?" This Death Eater was another man. He whipped his head back and forth between Ginny and the Death Eater.
"Nothing. Where does the Dark lord want these idiots?"
"He wants them to watch. He's planning some fun for before the actual ritual." he said coolly. Ginny's stomach plummeted.
"What do we do with them until then?"
"How should I know? Toss them somewhere they can't escape." The second Death Eater shrugged.
"Right. Let's go girl." He unleashed her from the body bind and roughly grabbed her arm. They walked out of the room and into a dark hallway. It seemed they were underground somewhere, they'd only made it a few paces before he shoved her into another room and closed the door. Immediately she tried to yank it open, but no avail. A few seconds passed before the door opened, nearly hitting Ginny in the face, and Draco, Lyra, and Hermione were thrown in.
"You're safe!" Hermione hugged Ginny tightly.
"I think Harry's going to be sacrificed!" she blurted.
"What?" Lyra yelped. Her eyes were wide, and her face was gray.
"The Death Eaters were talking about Voldemort wanting us to watch, something, before the sacrifice. And who else would be sacrificed other than Harry!" She yelled, running her fingers through her hair in agitation.
"Ginny you don't know that for sure!" Hermione cried, her eyes bright.
"We have to get out of here." Draco said, his voice tight.
"How?!" She sobbed, her shoulders shaking. Draco shook his head, and a feeling of hopelessness washed over her.
Harry
The Death Eater hadn't locked the door. Another one had come in to feed him, and had been called away by someone else. He had closed the door, but not locked it. Harry eased it open and peaked his head out. The hall was empty. He slipped out and shut it behind him, breathing hard. His mind was racing along with his heart. Harry chose a random direction and began running as silently as he could manage. He spotted a staircase and began running up it, he turned a corner, smack into Ginny. He muffled a strangled sound that tried to escape him. Hermione, Draco, and Lyra were with her running down the stairs. Ginny opened her mouth but Harry held a finger to his lips. If anyone heard them…The five of them gathered themselves in a hug before splitting apart. Hermione lifted a finger up and Harry nodded in understanding. They hurried up the staircase and made it to the top before Harry heard a shout. His chest tightened in panic, they weren't going to get away fast enough. Shouts were now coming from ahead of them too. They were trapped.
He stopped abruptly and the others did too, their faces laced with despair. Harry turned to Ginny and cupped her face in his hands. And he kissed her. He kissed her because they were probably going to die and he wanted to make something in his life right before then. She was crying, and he thought he might be too. It was desperate and filled with so much passion he thought he might die. She opened her mouth for him and he gently swept his tongue in. This really wasn't the time for him to feel weak in the knees, but he felt as if he might collapse any moment for how she felt pressed against him, their mouths tangled. Her hands were wrapped around his waist, as if she held on tight enough they would never have to let go. They were yanked apart and the sound that came out of Ginny cracked his chest in half like a log being split.
Draco
There was no way out. They'd tried yanking the door, pounding it, Hermione had even tried to use wandless magic. There had to be some way out.
"What if we pick the lock?" Lyra asked hesitantly.
"Pick the lock. Pick the lock. Lyra that's genius!" Hermione said.
"Do you have a bobby pin?" Lyra asked. Hermione shoved her hand into her jeans pocket and fished around for a second. She produced a bobby pin and handed it to Lyra. She took a deep breath and plunged it into the keyhole, none of them said a word as she worked, watching intently. After a few breathless minutes the lock clicked and Lyra pushed the door open. Ginny gave Lyra a quick hug before running out the door.
"Slow down Ginny!" Hermione hissed, hurrying after her. They raced down a flight of stairs and Ginny collided with Harry. Harry. A feeling of relief swept over him and nearly brought him to his knees. After a brief reunion they booked it in the direction Draco desperately hoped was away from the Death Eaters. He was honestly very surprised that the Death Eaters hadn't just killed him outright. By now surely they would've known he was a traitor. Steps sounded from behind them, and in front. Shit. They were close. Well maybe not close but they had been making progress. There was nowhere left for them to run. Either way ended with Death Eaters. All of them stopped and Draco did his best to keep it together. He certainly had not expected Harry to kiss Ginny. The kiss lasted nearly twenty seconds before the Death Eaters caught up with them and wrenched the two of them apart.
Ginny sobbed, or screamed, as a Death Eater held her back. Other Death Eaters grabbed them and held them fast. Bellatrix, was the one who held Harry captive, she had him yanked back by his hair.
"Time for the fun to begin." She hissed, stroking one finger down his throat.
"Don't touch him." Ginny gasped, tears running down her face.
"I will do whatever I wish." Bellatrix spat, and gave Harry a shake. A shattered scream sounded from behind them and Draco tried to turn his head to see who it was. The Death Eater holding him kept him firm, and he could not see who it was that made the noise.
Snape
No. No. Harry was supposed to be safe. Draco was supposed to be safe. Not here. Why were they here? His chest felt like it was being crushed, his ribs were being pushed closer and closer together, his heart was shrinking, and he was going to shrivel up into nothing. Nothing. Because he hadn't done one thing right. Not one damn thing. And everyone was going to pay for it. The whole world, the Dark lord was going to kill them all. He had been led up by Malfoy, for what he'd had no idea, and then he'd seen them. All five, just kids, one not even magical. Here, in this hell hole, where there was no way out. He didn't even recognize the sound that came out of him, didn't realize he had been the one to make that horrific noise. Why were they here? An all too familiar figure strode from around the corner and Snape felt his stomach drop. Voldemort was here.
A/N DUN DUN DUN! Was this sad? Or am I just dramatic? What'd you think about the Harry Ginny kiss? Awwwww. It made me giddy. So, uh, the village of silent people (that's what I'm calling it cuz why not) will be explained later. And man was that kissing scene fun to write. So satisfying. It was a long time coming. XD. Please let me know what you thought! And I'll see ya next week. When schools started. UGH.
