Chapter Nineteen: Awkward

LuffyGirl here.

I hope everyone is doing o.k and is staying safe, indoors, social distancing and staying healthy and all those safety and precautionary things. It's going to be a long ride but we can make it through this.

With that little bit being said…

Surprise! The anniversary was supposed to be this chapter but as I started writing it, I thought this super awkward conversation could be its own chapter. So here it is!

Summary: Be prepared to read one of the most awkward conversations these two dorks ever had (and purposely weirdly written).

Enjoy ;)

Both Marco and Thatch agreed to wait a couple days to get there thoughts sorted out before they decided to speak to each other about… well, everything.

However, on the third day, Ace and Whitebeard thought they waited long enough and left Marco and Thatch alone in their house.

"Um… Hey, Marco." Thatch said awkwardly.

"Hey, Thatch." Marco said awkwardly as well.

They both just sat there in awkward silence. Thatch seemed more interested in the table and Marco suddenly seemed more interested in their own décor in the kitchen. Has that blender always been there?

There was another minute of awkward silence before Thatch spoke up.

"So~…"

Gosh this was so damn awkward right now.

"How was it at Oyaji's house?"

Thatch mentally kicked himself. He hasn't seen Marco in three days and that's the first thing he asks? Stupid!

"It was… fine." Marco answered awkwardly. Wow, this was going very terribly right now wasn't it?

There was yet another agonizing minute of awkward silence.

"…"

"…"

Suddenly, they both spoke up simultaneously.

"Listen, Thatch-"

"Listen, Marco-"

They both stopped to let the other speak but neither of them spoke up.

This time, Thatch broke the silence.

"Listen, Marco…" Thatch started as he looked at his lover. "I… I'm sorry about not listening to what you wanted to talk about. As I've told you before, I'm still not sure about marriage but-"

"It's alright, Thatch. I'm sorry to." Marco apologized. "I should've been more patient and I shouldn't have asked you so soon. We clearly weren't ready at the time. Now I understand why you didn't want to talk about it during our vacation. It wasn't very good timing and I nearly ruined it."

Thatch smiled a little. "We almost started bickering about it. But since we're on the topic, I think now would be a good time."

"Um… Normally I wouldn't mind but… Our anniversary is coming up and… I don't want us to bicker about it like… like how we almost did on vacation. So… Maybe we should wait the day after? We do have that day off as well."

Thatch's smile faded a little. Something about Marco seemed off. It took Thatch six (embarrassingly) long years to realize that Marco still wanted to talk about marriage and now that he was willing to talk about it, Marco suddenly wanted to wait even longer? Sure, it was only a few days from now but still, six years.

What the hell, Marco?

Then again, what Marco said was a good point. Thatch didn't want them to bicker (or worse argue) about it before their anniversary. He wanted them to be able to enjoy their day in peace.

"Thatch? You o.k?" Marco asked a little worried.

"I'm fine." He answered. "You're right. Let's wait until after our anniversary."

Thatch still couldn't help that something was off.

Well, this was lovely wasn't it? Hope that conversation was awkward enough for ya.

O.k, now the next chapter will be about their anniversary.

Thank You guys for reading and please stay safe out there.
