Chapter Twenty

April 6, 2006 (12:00 PM)

It is time to put the plan into action. Jasper is still upset about what he learned about Edward, but he has a part to play. But that didn't mean he couldn't stew while he is waiting in the next room for his cue. Go to the Volturi to be killed! Really!? He thought the rest of us wouldn't care if he wasn't around. UGH! Jasper takes a deep breath and focuses on Alice's voice. I need to pay attention…

"What do you mean you haven't decided anything?" Alice asks as she starts to act very nervous.

"I mean, I haven't decided. I know he needs to meet the kids, but I am not ready for him to be here." Bella doesn't understand why this is so hard for everyone to understand.

Alice yells "NO!" Here I come honey. To save the day. Jasper smirks at his thought as he runs in to the kitchen and grabs Alice.

"Alice!? What's wrong!? Are you alright?" Jasper has his back to Bella and is smirking at Alice. She sees his smirk and glares. She doesn't need him to distract her.

"No, it's not!" She throws her arms around Jasper and pretends to sob. "His future disappeared! Edward's future disappeared Jasper! What are we going to do!?"

Sure glad I am in on this. Everyone else that is joining us is getting very scared. At least I can take their feelings to help me more. "But that means he is coming here. So that's a good thing, right?" Jasper rubs Alice's back looking like he is trying to comfort her.

Bella interrupts. "No Jasper, he is not coming here."

Jasper turns around, and stares in shock at Bella. "What!?" He turns back around to Alice and says "But that means…" Alice nods at him and puts her face back in his shirt.

"It can't be!" Jasper says a little louder then he needs to just to make sure the kids know it is time to come home. This is going well. I hope the kids can play their parts…

Esme gasps as it sinks in what Alice is saying. She cries "NO!" Carlisle grabs her and holds her close. "Alice, are you sure?"

Alice doesn't say anything, she only nods. Bella looks around in confusion as the rest of the couples start holding each other tight, looking sad and worried. "What is going on? Why else would his future disappear?" Bella didn't use his name because the kids just walked in.

Alice is a little worried. Of course, her visions could change, but this is taking longer than her vision had. However, she had blind spots she was trying to see around then too. UGH. She sure hopes it still works out like it had yesterday. Alice pulls away from Jasper and says, "It means…it means he is going to die." She sobs and leans back into Jasper as she hears Bella yell. "NO! What do we do? We have to do something! We can't let that happen! He has to meet his kids!?" Bella cries.

At that statement, the kids look at each other and turn to the wolves and cry. They had practiced making themselves cry before they left to go home yesterday. Mary was good at blocking people's power, but she had been struggling to borrow them. They knew they would need help so SJ had suggested practicing using Jasper's power. It took almost the whole time until they headed home but, she had finally done it. It worked like a charm.

Hearing her kids cry, Bella runs to them. She had to fix this. But was it too late? She rubs their backs and asks Alice. "Could Jazmyn bring him here? Would it be too late?"

Alice looks up to Jasper and winks than speaks "No, right now he is at our old house in Forks. But if we wait too long it will be too late."

Everyone freezes and stares at Bella, waiting to see if she will let him come here. The kids stop crying and look at her too. Jazmyn asks "Can I, Mom? Can I please bring him home?"

Bella takes a deep breath then nods yes. She isn't sure she is ready for this, but she is NOT going to have Edward die when she could save him.

Shockingly, the next thing they hear is sobbing in the other room. They all look at Jazmyn confused. Her power is stronger. She used to have to have them show up on the same room she was in. But she just brought Edward here and put him in the room next door. When did she learn to do that?

Jasper and Carlisle look at each other. Carlisle speaks softly "Let's you, Emmett, Peter and I go see him. You have been here the whole time Jasper, so you can feel him in the fastest. The rest of you go quietly out the back door. We will join you soon."

Everyone nods and walks out the back door. Rosalie stops next to Bella and wraps her arm around her shoulder. She can tell Bella isn't sure which way she wants to go. Just proving she still loves Edward as she wants to go that way to comfort him, but she wants to do what was asked too.

After a little pulling, Bella and Rose walk out the back door after everyone else. The four men that were left all walk slowly into the living room. He is in so much pain! He doesn't even realize he is not alone anymore.

Carlisle opens his mouth to speak. Jasper waves him off. I feel I should get his attention so he can see right away what happened. Hopefully that will help keep him calm.

Jasper takes a step forward. "Edward."

Edward jumps up and growls. What is going on!? He was alone. He looks around and sees Jasper with Carlisle, Emmett and Peter standing behind him. He stops growling, but looks confusingly from one man to the next.

Jasper grabs his attention. Edward, look at me. I need you to calm down and read my memories. A lot has happened and it will be hard to take in, but start with me. I have been here the longest. Then you can focus in on all the other thoughts.

Edward frowns. Listen to all the other thoughts… He widens his range. All he hears is the four in here. He continues looking around the house with his mind and eyes while answering "What are you talking about, Jasper? I only hear you four. What is going on? Where are we? How did I get here?"

Oh Bella is blocking everyone. At her name, Edward snaps his head and stares at Jasper. See, I told you to listen to me. Now listen and do not go running off anywhere until I am finished.

Edward nods and notices the only thoughts he could hear now is Jasper's. He is even more confused, but tries to remain calm and hear Jasper out. He listens carefully as Jasper runs through the last few months. His confusion goes from confused to shock as he listens. He is a DAD! He growls when he learns the wolves imprinted on them, but then stops when he sees Bella holding their kids saying it was okay. He keeps that picture in his mind as he listens to the rest of the story.

When Jasper finishes he feels Edward's emotions. "Are you okay, Edward?" He doesn't seem upset. He still seems sad, which could be because he saw Bella will not be completely welcoming to him. Edward nods at Jasper, answer both his spoken question and thoughts. It's okay Edward. She does still love you. Just give her time and space. Edward nods again.

"Can I meet my children?" Before Edward stops talking he hears a bunch of people heading his way. He tries to listen, but still can't hear everyone. His Bella is very kind to block all the thoughts, but he kind of wishes he could hear everyone to see what they thought about him being here.

He watches as Jazmyn and Jacob, SJ and Leah, and Mary and Seth walk around the corner. The rest of his family and Charlotte walk the rest of the way in while those six stop in the door. Esme runs and hugs him. I missed you my son. Congratulations, dear. You have a wonderful family.

Edward is surprised when he could hear everyone all of a sudden. But what surprises him more is the fact that all of the thoughts were happy he is okay and safe. What was going on? He reads the thoughts of Alice and smiles. She tricked Bella into letting him come here. Then he frowns. She had seen him make the decision to go to the Volturi…crap. At least she only told Jasper. That would have killed Esme and Carlisle. He winces…Bella didn't want him here yet. He focuses on the kids. At least they want him here. He listens to a few other thoughts and finds out more information about everything he missed. He likes seeing the different views of how things happened. He hopes he will be here from now on. It seems like it would be completely up to Bella…

He looks around and his face falls more. Bella isn't in the room. It shouldn't surprise him; he has hurt her more than he ever thought he could. He looks at his children. They are now bouncing like Alice does when she is excited. They want to be closer. He smiles at them.

He kneels down and opens his arms. All three kids smile, jump to the ground and run to him yelling. "DAD!" As he hugs his kids for the first time, he can't believe how lucky he is. He is a father…now he has to live up to that and make up for lost time. At least he didn't have to worry about their fast growth. He would never be able to thank Peter and Charlotte enough for their help. Hell, he would never be able to thank all of the people in the room for making sure his family stayed safe…his family.

Carlisle has gathered most of the people and chased them out of the room. Edward deserves time to get to know his children. He only leaves Jasper to watch over them. Not that he thinks Edward would do anything he just knows he would never get anyone to leave if he didn't leave someone. Jasper is the best choice; he would feel if Edward got upset and know what to do.

Well, we are all now under one roof. I can feel Bella. She must have snuck in through her window. She is worried…is she worried about the kids? Or is she worried about Edward? Maybe both. She is scared too. Jasper sends up some calm to her. He smiles when he feels thanks coming back at him. Edward looks at him with longing eyes but stays with his kids learning about them. Even if they are not in the same room they are in the same house. That is a step towards the right direction. Jasper smiles when he sees Bella sneak a peek around the corner of the stairs. She nods and then he hears her walk away and shut her door. Edward glances up the stairs and sighs but smiles at Jasper's thoughts.

Jasper sighs and focuses in on Edward and the kids while stepping back to give them a little more privacy. Now to convince her Edward does love her…

Edward glances at Jasper when he hears his last thought and smiles. At least it looks like he has one person on his side. He nods his thanks then turns his full attention back to his kids.
