Chapter 19: Guess who's coming to dinner

Callie's POV

I was not working that day, so I was able to spend part of the afternoon making a nice dinner for Addison. I wanted that dinner to be fantastic, I wanted it to be a good time for the four of us. Around six o'clock, Arizona came home with my daughter. They were both glowing. I hugged them and Arizona and I continued to prepare the meal while Sofia was doing her homework next to us.

An hour later, the doorbell rang. The three of us got up to greet Addison. Once she set foot in our house and looked at Sofia, Addison had such a happy look on her face.

"You were right," she said, "she really looks like her father."

"I agree," Arizona continued, "she looks so much like her that it's sometimes a little confusing."

"You know Sofia," Addison explained to Sofia, "your father was one of the most beautiful, charismatic, talented, and most importantly, kindest men this planet has ever known."

"How well did you know him?" Sofia asked with her very cute voice.

"I knew him pretty good." Addison narrated as she sat next to Sofia. "I was married for several years to Carolyn's son Derek. Derek and your dad were like brothers, so your dad became one of my best friends. I am going to tell you a story to show you what a good man your daddy was. One night, when we were both living in New York, we were out with friends. It was late and there was no taxi. To not leave me alone and to avoid someone bothering me, he walked with me to my house and then he walked all the way across town to get home. Your dad was a really good guy."

Addison's POV

We spent the rest of the evening reminiscing about our old memories and discussing our lives. That night was great, this couple was really meant to be together and their daughter really reminded me of Mark.

Even though our relationship hadn't always been perfect and even though it had brought us a lot of trouble, Mark had been my best friend and I missed him, I missed him every day. Seeing him in his daughter's eyes really moved me.

After dinner Callie went to put the little one to bed and the three of us sat down in the living room to talk over a glass of wine.

"Now that Sofia is asleep," Arizona started, "there's something we need to talk to you about."

"Go ahead, I'm all ears."

"For now," Callie explained, "we don't want to tell Sofia so she won't be disappointed if it doesn't work out."

"One of you is pregnant, isn't she?" I asked, excited by the potential for them to have the chance to have a second child.

"That's right," Callie replied with a huge smile on her face, "Arizona is pregnant."

"This is the best news ever!" I agreed

"The problem is," Arizona explained, "is that the last time I tried to carry a child, we lost him. So we'd like you to take care of this pregnancy."

"I'm not going to be able to," I answered, "I remind you that I live in Los Angeles while you live in New York."

"I have an idea," Callie continued, "one of the interns at the center will take care of the tests you've ordered, then you will analyze the results."

"I'm fine with that functioning." I validated. "In any case, you deserve the best and I'm the best. In exchange, will I be allowed to ask you three little questions?"

"Of course!" Arizona began

"First," I began, "was this baby made through a donor?"

"Yes, he was." Arizona replied.

"Second," I continued, "when did you find out you were pregnant?"

"A week ago!" Callie explained. "We started the IVF process a few weeks after we got married four months ago."

"Third," I finished, "could I be the godmother?"
