The house was still dark when Olivia woke up. Olivia didn't ask Fitz what time he would be home with Karen. After a few minutes of complaining about the noise, Fitz took Olivia home. He wanted to make Karen happy, so he took her back to have fun for a few more hours. Her phone rang and she answered it.
"Hello?"
"Olivia, how are you?"
"I'm fine Mellie."
"I want you to know that I'm not upset about you dating Fitz or your pregnancy."
"We're not dating."
"I also have good news. I'm pregnant!"
"What?"
"I just found out a few minutes ago."
"Are you saying Fitz..."
"No, there's another guy. We've been friends for a long time."
"How long?"
"About six years."
"So, you started dating him while you were pregnant with Karen?"
"I met him a few weeks before I found out I was pregnant. And that's another thing I haven't been honest with you about. I'm about 90 percent sure that Fitz is Karen's dad, but there's a slight chance he might not be. It could be this other guy."
"What!"
"His name is Jake. He's a great guy. I don't think he's Karen's dad because he has brown eyes."
"You wait until I agree to co-parent with Fitz to tell me he might not be Karen's dad!"
"It's not that big of a deal Olivia. You're already having a baby. You might as well let him co-parent Karen. I have to ask you one more thing."
"I'm really upset with you Mellie."
"I know. I didn't want you to think I'm a whore. What I want to ask you is...I think I'll be a good mom, but I don't know if I'll change my mind later. If I decide I don't want this baby, can you take it?"
"No I will not raise your baby."
"Why not? You're a good mom to Karen."
"Goodbye Mellie."
Olivia hung up before Mellie could ask her anything else. Fitz might not be Karen's dad. How was she supposed to explain that to Karen? She was already calling him dad. Now Fitz would need a paternity test. If he's not her dad, will Karen be hurt when he leaves? Olivia couldn't deal with her own pregnancy and worry about Karen's happiness with a potential birth father. Olivia thought about her options. Maybe she would take Karen and move. They could start over in a new city without the issues that came with Mellie and Fitz. She would miss her jogging buddy, but she couldn't deal with all of this stress while she was pregnant. That was it. She would ask him to take a paternity test, and she would decide her next move based on the result. She didn't have to stay gone in a new city. When the baby was a few years old, she could come back and let Fitz be part of the baby's life if he wasn't Karen's dad.
