Ty surprised himself how quickly his mood shifted when he saw Andy. Up until he showed up, they were having fun, talking, laughing, Amy even touched his hand. He felt relaxed, secure, and yes, happy.

Then, Andy showed up. Then Ty felt a twinge in his gut, a catch in his breath and a dark mood taking over. If he was honest with himself, Andy did nothing to elicit his response. He didn't flirt or make a move on Amy. He didn't talk down to or dismiss him. He did promise to honor their relationship. He did work for Fairfield, so he essentially was doing his job. The only thing that Andy did was show up.

Amy told him, more than once, that she wasn't interested in Andy. That he needed to learn to trust her.

He told her that he trusted her, but did he really? For that matter, did he trust anyone?

"Ty? What do you think?" Amy asked.

"Huh?" Ty snapped out of it. "Sorry, I zoned. Guess I'm more exhausted than I thought. What did you ask me?"

"We were talking about Timothy hay. Do you think it's a good source of food for racehorses?" Said Andy.

"Oh, Hmm. If I remember right, the fiber in Timothy hay ferments in the gut so it's a decent source of energy. I guess adding something else like alfalfa would also be beneficial for racehorses. Amy, isn't that what we gave Dexter?"

"And what we're feeding Sage! See Andy, Ty agrees with me!"

"Of course he agrees with you. Doesn't make either one of you right!"

They laughed. Ty tried to laugh. He just wanted to leave. He looked at his watch, they had already been there over an hour.

Amy noticed this. "Hey, what time is it?"

"Probably time to go. We have to get up early. And, be back at 4."

"Ugh. You're right. We should go." Then she looked at Andy. "Thanks Andy. Keep an eye on my girl." She patted Sage's neck.

"Night Amy, Ty. See ya bright and early. Rest." She kissed Sage on her nose. "Hey Andy. Please be sure to muzzle her so she doesn't eat and drink too much. I have it on the schedule."

"Aye aye Captain!" And he saluted her. She smirked at him.

"Thanks."

"What, I show up and the party breaks up?"

Ty turned. "Well, hey Maddie. Surprised to see you here."

"Andy invited me. Think he secretly wants me to do his groom work."

"That is not true. I wanted the simple pleasure of your company." Andy smiled and Maddie smiled back.

"Well, we best be going!" Ty said.

In the truck, Ty remained somewhat pensive and quiet. "What are you thinking? asked Amy.

"Nothing"

"Ty. Talk to me."

"Nothing really to say."

"We promised to be honest."

Ty took a deep breath. "Amy, well, its not that I don't...I mean I do but I get so..argh." There was just no good way to bring this up.

Amy looked right him. "Just say it Ty. Please tell me."

Ty really was tired. And he didn't want to say the wrong thing. "Amy. Can we talk about it later? Please. I'm really tired."

The rest of the ride home was silent.

He dropped her off at the ranch house with a quick "bye" and headed to the loft. He stripped off his clothes, except his briefs, and laid down on his bed, not bothering to get under the blankets. He stared at the ceiling in the dark trying to figure out why he was so pissed, jealous. He needed a beer, or something stronger.

He thought he heard someone In the barn. He hoped it was Amy but couldn't imagine that she would come upstairs. He put on his pants and went downstairs.

Jack was in the barn, doing night check. "Hey Ty. Hope I didn't wake you."

"No. Can't sleep."

"Oh. Something eating you?"

"I don't know. Maybe."

"Yes or no?"

He took a deep breath and let it out. "Do you ever get jealous when Lisa goes to France?"

"Ty, I love Lisa. When Lisa goes to France, I miss her a lot. But, no, I don't get jealous because I trust her." Jack paused. "Guess this is about Amy."

Ty nodded.

"Son. For what it's worth, you can about trust two ways. You can trust someone until they prove they are untrustworthy. Or you can distrust someone until they earn it." He added. "I like to give folks the benefit of the doubt."

"Jack, I don't know. I can't trust my mom or dad, or Wade. Most of the time, I can't trust myself."

"Is there anyone you do trust?"

"Honestly, I trust you, Lou, Lisa. I am working on trusting Amy."

"I'll let you to that then. You best get to bed. That alarm will be yelling before you know it."

"Night."

Ty got in bed but laid there wide awake. He couldn't stop thinking about Amy and what Jack said. It was going to be a sleepless night. He frowned.

He heard Jack still moving around downstairs. He must have forgotten something as he was coming up the loft stairs. "Ty?"

"Amy?"

"I can't sleep."

"Same here. Come lay down with me."

She crawled in bed, next to him, curl into his chest. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her forehead. Both content, they quickly fell into a deep sleep.
