Chapter 21
A Family Reunion
General P.O.V.
Jolt, Sora, and Electra as they rode with Mana, Tora and Luna across the sea on Kita. After the group from the future returned to the future, Glacia had returned to her real name. Then she asked if Jolt would accept her offer to take him to meet her family, friends and boyfriend. He agreed, but he added a condition to take his girlfriend and friend with him. She was quick to agree, since she saw them as her friends as well.
After that, the legendary pokemon left and Kita left to meet them at the beach. Now, they were on the way to Temporal Island, where Luna's friends were waiting for them.
"I know I saw Mana and I think I saw a Salamance during my escape from the future with your future self, but who else do you have as a friend?" Jolt asked. "Come to think of it, I never did get the name of that Salamence."
Tora smiled.
"So Drake evolved, did he?" Tora asked. "Are he and Autumn still friends?"
Luna nodded.
"Yes, but their friendship was strained for a while because of what you asked him and his friends to do," Luna answered. "It took four years before they went back to being friends, after Drake told me the truth."
Tora sighed.
"I wish that he told Autumn before he did anything," Tora said. "I told him that he couldn't tell you what he was doing until you were ready, but I never said that he couldn't tell anyone else."
Mana sighed.
"He tried telling Autumn, but she thought he was making excuses, and didn't give him a chance to tell her," Mana said. "She and Alexa didn't find out until he told Luna, though Alexa did have suspicions."
Tora nodded.
"So who else did you make friends with?" Tora asked.
Luna smiled.
"There was a Chikorita named Saki, who I invited to live with us after her mother died, and we became very close," Luna said. "Then there's Drake's friends Kira, Razor, Fang and Thunder. Then you know about my boyfriend Grovyle, but there are some legendary Pokemon who don't live on the island I made friends with too."
Tora smiled.
"I looked forward to meeting them eventually," Tora said.
Luna smiled, happy to have her father back.
"So, what should we know about your family?" Electra asked.
Luna smiled fondly.
"I've got seven older siblings," Luna explained. "Each of them chose to evolve into a different evolution of Eevee, while our mother chose to stay as an Eevee. You already met the youngest of my older sisters from my future self, Autumn and Alexa. The oldest are the twins, Tea and Shadow, an Espeon and Umbreon. They're explorers but they're not tied to any guild. They mostly work on their own or help my other sister with her research, when they can get a hold of her."
Luna sighed, remembering how Ember's tendency to leave without any warning got on their nerves.
"Then there's the younger set of twins, Volt and Shimmer, a Jolteon and Vaporeon," Luna said. "Volt's a bit of a flirt, but he means well. His brother, Shimmer, is a little more calmer than his older twin. They're both teachers for their type of Pokemon. Volt teaches electric pokemon and Shimmer teaches water pokemon."
Luna noticed Jolt moved Electra slightly closer by mentioning Volt was a flirt. She made a mental note to tell Volt not to flirt with Electra. He had a girlfriend himself, but he was still overly friendly with other girls.
"Then there's Ember, the most elusive of my siblings," Luna said, fondly. "She's a Flareon who works at the library on the island as a historian who specializes in ancient lore."
Sora perked up at that.
"Really?" Sora asked.
Luna nodded.
"You may be an expert in myths, but Ember is a master at what she does," Luna said. "She won't just stay in the library to research them. She'll actually go out into the field and find the information that way. She's very passionate about her work, but sometimes she ends up being so consumed into whatever she's doing that she forgets to let anyone know what she's doing. A small flaw of hers, I'm afraid."
Mana shook her head.
"Luna is a bit better at letting others know where she is," Mana said. "She at least tells people when she leaves the island before she goes. She's a free spirit who doesn't stay in one place for a long time or she gets restless. She doesn't like being idle."
Luna shook her head.
"Then there's my mother, Angela," Luna said. "She's very kind and gentle, and was always very accepting of everything I did, despite how worried she was."
Luna sighed, making Mana rub her head against her in comfort.
"She tried to hide it, but she always seemed to be sad," Luna said. "She tried to keep it together for me, Autumn and Alexa, but we all saw it. I hated seeing her like that."
Jolt smiled.
"Now you'll be able to see her happy again," Jolt said.
Luna smiled.
"I know, and I can't wait for her to see father again," Luna said. "This is a reunion that's fifteen years in the making. It may have been delayed ten years, but I'm making sure that he reaches the destination he was meant to reach ten years ago."
Kita then slowed to a stop and then looked back at Luna.
"We've reached the spot, Luna," Kita said. "Dialga is letting you release the barrier around the island."
Luna nodded and motioned to Mana. She nodded and lifted off into the air with Luna off her back.
"What's she doing?" Electra asked.
Kita smiled.
"She's taking down the barrier that surrounds Temporal Island," Kita answered. "Her and Dialga agreed to take it down once they took care of Darkrai. Now that he's no longer a threat, Temporal Island can once again be connected to the rest of the world."
Luna closed her eyes as her body glowed with a golden light and the birthmark on her forehead began to glow. Then they saw a gold and dark blue barrier appear in front of them. Through the barrier, they saw the island began to form. Even the floating island above Temporal Island that held Temporal Tower was shown. Once the island fully formed, the barrier was shattered and the island was in full view.
Luna sighed as she opened her eyes and the light faded from her body. That barrier held a big portion of both her and Dialga's powers when they worked together to put it up. Taking it down was no easy feat. Mana sensed her exhaustion and flew slowly as her and Kita headed towards the shore.
Luna recovered enough by the time that Kita reached the shore and Mana landed. She jumped off as they got off Kita and looked at the beach. Tora smiled as he saw Sora, Electra and Jolt look around in awe.
"This place is beautiful," Electra said. "I can see why you wanted to protect it."
Luna smiled.
"I've always loved it here," Luna said. "My most important memories are here on this island. There's a cliff not too far from here I used to go to all the time whenever I wanted to be alone. It's where I met Lia, Seren and Grovyle. There's the forest where I met Mana, Saki, Tundra, and Topaz. There's a lot of fond memories I have here."
Luna then turned to Mana with a smile.
"Think I should let everyone know that I'm back?" Luna asked.
Mana smiled.
"They've all been waiting for Tora's return, and some of them have been waiting for the chance to meet him," Mana said. "Why make them wait any longer?"
Luna smiled and nodded.
"The usual greeting, then?" Luna asked.
Mana nodded.
"Why not?" Mana said. "Do the same for your mother, too, instead of the usual greeting you do for her. She'll appreciate it when she sees Tora is with you."
Luna smiled and closed her eyes.
"Alright, but I'll save that song for when we get to my mother's home," Luna said.
Mana nodded.
"So everything that makes me whole
Belongs to you, I'll give my heart and soul
I'm yours"
Jolt and Electra gave a dry look as they heard the lyrics.
"Why do we feel like we're hearing a love song?" They asked together.
Mana smiled in amusement.
"That's because you are," Mana said.
Jolt and Electra sighed, not exactly wanted to see their friend being romantic. Mana seemed to read their mood and shook her head.
"You can relax, she's not being romantic," Mana said. "She's just using it to call everyone over. We had all agreed on which of her songs she would use, and this was the one everyone agreed on."
Jolt and Electra sighed.
"Why this one?" Jolt and Electra complained.
Mana simply smiled.
"It's the one that best showed love and happiness," Mana said. "Both for the return of her father and her mother's happiness."
Jolt and Electra sighed, but couldn't argue against it. Sora and Tora just shook their heads at the couple.
"Hey, I've never laughed like this in my life
Forgetting all of the bitter strife
I know I've made mistakes...Even so
I'm glad I kept my feet on that path
Because it's brought me to where I am today
I'm here with you"
The group heard a rustle in the forest in front of them. They watched as a few figures appeared from the forest, but kept where they were for the moment. It was a Scyther, Electabuzz, Sableye, Charizard, Meganium, Salamence, and lastly, Grovyle.
"I'll keep my head held high, always looking far across the sky
We will go far where the stars all are
'Cause we'll be connected by our joining hands
Smile and all of my tears dry
And this love of ours will never die"
Most of them seemed to be very annoyed by the song, with the exception of the Meganium and the Grovyle, who seemed to be focusing on Luna. Jolt and Electra couldn't help but think that it wasn't a unanimous decision on the song.
"The two of us have something precious we must protect no matter what
But there will come a time
When our own strength alone won't be enough
Even if all hope is lost and somehow we both lose our way
And even if the darkness comes
And tries to take you far away"
Jolt looked over at Mana.
"It wasn't a unanimous choice, was it?" Jolt said.
Mana sighed and nodded sheepishly.
"Well, Saki, Luna and I may have threatened to sic Karen on them if they didn't agree," Mana admitted.
Jolt and Electra sighed, but decided it wasn't worth arguing if it made Luna happy.
"I'll become the light that shines down
Enveloping all dark you see
I'll hold you close and won't let even God above take you from me
So everything that makes me whole
Belongs to you, I'll give my heart and soul
I'm yours"
Luna opened her eyes and smiled as her eyes connected with Grovyle. They both smiled softly but did nothing else as they walked over to them. Jolt realized the future self of Autumn was right. They really didn't like others seeing them being romantic.
"Glad that you all could make it," Luna said, looking over at the Salamence Jolt knew was Drake from their earlier conversation.
Drake just smiled.
"We've been waiting a long time for this day," Drake said. "Of course we would make it?"
Luna smiled. Everyone was introduced to Electra and Jolt. Then they got to meet Grovyle. He didn't seem any different from the Grovyle they met, but seemed a bit happier than the other one. Though that probably had to do a lot with his girlfriend's disappearance and living in the world of darkness.
Luna looked around and noticed none of her siblings or Diamond were there to greet her.
"Where are the others?" Luna asked.
Razor sighed.
"They're waiting at Angela's house," Razor explained. "We told everyone but Angela about his return. They wanted to see her reaction when she sees him alive when she comes out."
Luna smiled.
"Then let's not keep them waiting then," Luna said.
Everyone nodded and they began to walk through the forest. Jolt, Electra and Sora were amazed how big the forest was and how beautiful it was. They eventually reached a house that was close to a forest clearing, and noticed seven different evolutions of Eevee at the edge of the clearing. When they noticed them, they quickly walked over.
The Espeon and Umbreon were the first to reach them.
"Glad you got back so soon," Tea said. "You picked the best time. Mother is busy taking a nap."
Shadow nodded.
"She's been very tired lately," Shadow said. "I think that father's absence is taking a toll on her."
The rest of the siblings were gathered around Tora, whispering how much they missed him. Tora couldn't help but smile, glad to be back home. Then a Ninetales walked out of the house and walked towards them with a soft smile. She leaned down and affectionately rubbed her head against Tora.
"I'm glad that you're back with us, Tora," Diamond said. "Angela's been worried about you, but she believed that she would see you again one day."
Tora nodded.
"How is she?" Tora asked, softly.
Diamond smiled.
"She'll be better once she sees you're alive," Diamond said.
Luna smiled and walked over to Diamond.
"I think it's time to sing that song, don't you?" Luna asked.
Diamond smiled.
"Yes, I believe that it will be the best news she's had," Diamond said. "Why don't the rest of us go near the woods until she calls us over."
Diamond began ushering the others over to the forest to watch, while Luna and Tora moved to the center of the clearing. Jolt looked over at Diamond.
"What's so special about this song?" Jolt asked.
Diamond smiled.
"It's a song that's special to her mother," Diamond said. "It's a song that symbolizes the love between them. When Angela taught it to her, she said the only time she would sing it again after she left home was when she found her father."
Jolt, Electra and Sora smiled and watched as Tora nodded to Luna. She smiled and closed her eyes.
"Colors on the wind floating from a different world
Greet the dawn with a song to welcome the day break
It's a melody
I hear in my memory
Where I watch birds take flight off into the eastern sky"
Jolt and Electra smiled, feeling the peaceful feeling in the song.
"No time to waste, can we escape?
To a place where the treasure lies?
Out here on the seven seas
We will find…
Our paradise"
From within the house, Angela shot up from her bed, hearing the song. The last time she heard that song was when Luna left the house. She quickly got up and ran towards the entrance.
"Can we be reborn in the wake of the storm
So that I can tell you the words of my heart?
There is so much I would give to you
But in one life, there is not enough time"
Angela reached the entrance and ran out into the clearing. Her eyes widened in shock at what she saw. She saw her daughter Luna singing, with Tora right next to her with a gentle smile. Just like the smile he always gave her that made her heart flutter and feel that everything would be alright.
"Underneath the waves there is a melody
Telling a story of faraway lands
I'll sing along so I won't forget
So through this song…
May the tale live on"
Luna opened her eyes and she stepped back slightly, to give them some space. Angela could feel the tears come and couldn't hold herself back anymore. She ran over to him and pressed herself against his fur.
"Tora," Angela said.
Tora just smiled and rubbed his head against hers.
"It's alright, Angela," Tora said.
Angela smiled.
"I missed you so much," Angela.
"I know," Tora said. "I know that I worried you, but all that matters now, is that I'm here, and all because of our daughter. She never gave up."
Angela smiled and looked at her youngest daughter. She would be alright now, and all because of her daughter, who had the strength to do what no one ever could. As Luna everyone else watched them together, they knew that everything would be alright.
