Nobody Listens Chapter 19: "Under Your Wing"

Dewey walked back to his room. He head Della yell, "Dewey, you don't have to go back in there you know!"

But he wanted to. It would be the best way to hide his demons…to make sure that nobody saw him hurting.

Just as he was about to enter, he heard a voice from behind him, "Dewey!" Webby walked up to him.

"Hi Webby." Dewey said, "Wait, weren't you at that island?"

"Oh, yeah, I came back." She smiled cheerfully.

"Cool." Dewey said in a monotone tone of voice. He placed his hand on the doorknob.

"Where are you going? Didn't Della un-ground you?"

"She did. But I didn't."

Webby's gaze softened, "Dewey, you know that you weren't the one at fault here. Nobody was. Like Gyro would say, it's just a wild misunderstanding."

Dewey looked away, he really didn't deserve her. He opened the door and stepped inside the room, Webby on his tail.

He walked up to the mirror and asked her, "Webby….do you think…..I'm….invisible?"

"Invisible." She laughed, "I can see you perfectly fine.

"No, like, in a metaphorical sense." Dewey clarified, "Everyone just seems to avoid me."

It was Webby's turn to look away.

Dewey got the message and lowered his head.

Webby reached out to him and put her arm on his shoulder, "Hey. When you're under my wing, nothing can go wrong."

Dewey wished he could believe that statement.

And somehow, it hurt more than his inner demons to know that Webby didn't know the bitter truth of the matter.
