Kaysa walked under the spell of her false appearance as a servant. Her red hair gathered in a half chignon danced in the air as she walked toward the kitchen to serve breakfast to the royal family, as usual. It had been a couple of days since her argument with Loki and she knew she could no longer turn away from him.

As she entered the kitchen a stack of trays waited to be served but Kaysa identified without a problem which ones were Loki's and which ones were the rest of the family's.

"Start serving those." The superior said.

Kaysa grabbed the tray limply. She had spent the past few days trying to use a different image than she was used to, but she had achieved nothing. Biscuit said good morning to her when she saw her working again.

"You don't have an idea about what I've had to put up with. Prince Loki didn't like to see his service changed." She said disinterestedly as she helped Kaysa set things up. "I don't know how he's going to react to the change again. After all the trouble I went to keep him satisfied."

"You can still take care of him." Kaysa smiled bitterly. Part of her wished Biscuit would take care of Loki, while the other part was very jealous. No one but her should go near Loki and she was determined to be the only maid that would serve him. Biscuit took Loki's tray but Kaysa was quick to stop her.

"I forgot to tell you that Lady Kaira needed your help." If Kaysa knew her sister well, she would still be in bed trying to get out of it. "She wanted to take a bath before going down to breakfast." Kaysa lied as she picked up the trays.

"And why didn't you help her?" She asked, a little annoyed.

"It's not my job." Kaysa smiled triumphantly as she left the kitchen laden with the breakfast trays. Along the way, Kaysa could not help but feel a little hatred for Biscuit. She felt very strongly about involving her sister in her plans to keep Biscuit away.

Kaysa arrived at the salon, which was empty at the time. She closed her eyes and, for a second, enjoyed the peace and quiet, trying to forget her companion, although her face did not leave her mind. Her breath did not last long and she immediately started to work and put the trays in place.

"Good morning." Kaysa's skin stood up. She knew she was going to meet him and partly wanted to, but she did not expect it to be so soon. She stood up and bowed but did not turn to him. Loki's voice was both polite and abstracted. Kaysa heard as he dragged a chair and dropped into it. She watched as he pulled out a book and read it. Kaysa was both relieved and upset. She was so distracted by her feelings that she accidentally knocked over a jug of juice. She had tried to get it, but she did not catch it in time. "What the hell?" Loki jumped up. Some of the juice had stained his pants. Kaysa looked at him regretfully but Loki's eyes went from indifferent to angry. "You again? I've told you last night I've had enough of you. Leave me alone!" Kaysa walked away from him a little scared. She did not understand how Loki could be talking to her like that. It was true that they had argued but she did not expect him to be so hard. "Are you listening to me?" Kaysa blinked and took another step backwards as she lowered her head. At that moment she understood the situation. She still had the juice jug in her hands and the metal allowed her to see her face. It was not her, nor was it even her maidenly face. It was Biscuit's image that was reflected then. Kaysa could not believe it. She had managed to acquire another appearance without knowing how. "I'll tell you one more time. You were passable last time, but nothing more. It was a moment of need that, fortunately for me, will not be repeated." Kaysa listened carefully. Was he implying what she believed? Loki was looking at her hard. For a moment, Kaysa had stopped paying attention to his words and decided to return to her true appearance.

"Really? Did you need that badly?" Kaysa asked as she turned and headed for the door to leave. Loki began to follow her as he shouted her name.

"Kaysa, wait!" He shouted in the hallway. A couple of guards patrolling the area stopped to check that everything was all right. Kaysa gave him an uneasy look. Loki waved to indicate that everything was fine. The guards nodded and followed their patrol. "It's not what you think." His voice, now a whisper, was marked by a tone of despair.

"What difference does it make what I think?" Kaysa said after a time of silence. Though she felt hurt, her voice was neutral. She was the one who had forced him to seek relief in the arms of another, after all. They had no relationship whatsoever, which took away her right to reproach him for his behaviour.

"Kaysa, listen to me." Loki placed his hands on either side of Kaysa's head, preventing her from moving. "I haven't looked for anything in her." Kaysa sneered. "No, damn it! Kaysa!" Loki shouted, hitting the wall behind her so hard that the back of his hands began to bleed. Kaysa closed her eyes like a reflex.

"Loki!"

Thor walked absently through the palace halls, hoping to see Kaira again. After falling in the bath with her they had spent hours inside hugging until he decided to let her rest. His hair still smelled of her essence and made the memory linger in his mind more than he would have liked. That time the memory was interrupted by distant voices. Someone seemed to be having a strong argument. Surely it would be among the servants, but he still felt he must intervene as the future king of Asgard. What was his surprise when he guessed that one of the voices was Loki, who had the redheaded servant girl who had helped him nearly a month ago.

"Loki!" He shouted as he watched him bang on the wall behind her. "Enough!" Thor walked over and pushed Loki away.

"Stay out of this. It's none of your business, Thor." Loki shouted. Kaysa looked at the brothers and around. They were drawing the attention of other servants.

"It is alright," Kaysa said, holding Thor's arm but staring into Loki's hard stare. "It is alright." She muttered low enough that only Loki knew what she was saying. Her words seemed to have an effect on Loki, who lowered his anxiety level. He glanced one last time at his brother and Kaysa before entering the chamber again. Thor turned to face Kaysa. "Thank you, Prince Thor."

"Forgive my brother, he's been rather sullen for a few days." Thor decided to accompany Kaysa into the kitchen.

"And do you know why?"

"He doesn't usually talk about his problems with anyone. It's probably a problem with one of his spells." Thor explained. Kaysa was a little disappointed. For a moment she had hoped that Thor would confess to her that Loki's ills came down to love problems.

"I see you're in a better mood lately." Kaysa decided to change the subject. "Does it have anything to do with a certain dark-haired elf?" Kaysa smiled mischievously as she winked at Thor as he blushed.

"You could say we've reached an agreement and put aside the arguments." Thor smiled and Kaysa was happy for him and Kaira. They deserved to be happy, if only for a short time.

Kaira smiled as she picked up a spoon of strawberry yoghurt. Thor was standing in front of her, casting the same gaze. Viggo could not help but appreciate the detail. He had no interest in why Kaira was, unlike other days, happy. However, he cared to know the possible consequences of that happiness. Kaira was the key to his promotion. He would go from being a guard to having a kingdom in his hands and above all, power. If Kaira now decided to refuse Odin's orders, or worse, if the All-Father came to accept a marriage between her and his son, then all would be lost.

"And tell me, Lady Kaira, what is your plan for today?" It was Ada's voice, looking down on her from Thor's side. Kaira looked up from her yoghurt and looked at Ada. There was something strange in her expression.

"I have to try on some dresses, don't I, Queen Frigga?" Kaira asked. At that moment, Kaysa stepped inside as a maid to pour a fresh pot of juice. The Queen's gaze passed from her to Kaira as she nodded.

"Dressed for the ball? Can you believe I don't have anything ready yet?" Ada laughed. Kaira and Kaysa exchanged a look. Something was not right with that girl.

"Oh, you have a great designer in front of you," Frigga said pointing to Kaysa. Loki looked at her in surprise, as if something had just clicked in his mind. Thor smiled warmly. Kaysa blushed.

"You are too kind, Queen Frigga," Kaysa said as she poured Thor some juice. Loki raised his glass from the other end, beside Kaira. Kaysa circled the table and served him from his right, approaching him. Loki gave her a long look, trying to look past the spell that hid her to observe all her details as he had never done before.

"Then I am sure you will find something that will serve me," Ada replied. She had seen Loki's gaze but she did not really care. After all, the girl was only a maid and she had nothing to do with him. Kaysa smiled and nodded as she withdrew.

Kaysa moved into one of Queen Frigga's salons, loaded with different dresses for Kaira and Ada. There was one in particular that the Queen had taken care of preparing for Kaira.

"Thank you very much, my dear," Frigga said gesturing to her to put them on a chair. Kaira arrived immediately afterwards. "Oh, you're early."

"Excuse me, my Queen. If you prefer I can come later." Kaira excused herself but the queen shook her head as she took her arm and led her to a secluded area to put on her dresses. Kaira went to get the ball gown, but the queen stopped him.

"That dress is already finished, my dear. Today we must take care of another, more special one." Frigga offered her the dress wrapped in golden silk and slowly opened it. It was a long, white dress with lace sleeves that reached halfway up Kaira's forearm. Neither of the two elves had ever seen a fabric so delicate and precious.

"It's the wedding dress," Kaysa muttered without looking away from the dress. Frigga nodded. Kaira began to pale and pearls of sweat adorned her brow. The dress had brought her back to her reality. With trembling hands she picked it up and walked into the alcove to put it on. It did not take long for her to walk out with it on. Kaysa was a little disappointed. Though the fabric was beautiful, it was not an elven dress, let alone one worthy of an elven queen.

"It's a little big on you, but I'm sure our young maiden can fix it." Kaysa nodded and ran to get Kaira the leftover cloth with pins. "Is something wrong?" Frigga asked, seeing Kaira's expression.

"Oh no, my Queen." Kaira turned to her, making Kaysa stick a pin in it.

"Ouch." Kaysa gave Kaira an annoying look, asking her not to move so abruptly. "It's just not what I thought."

"You don't like it?" Frigga walked up to her and started moving the skirt of her dress. "I thought it would be to your liking."

"Oh no, no!" Kaira moved again and this time it was Kaysa who stuck the needle in. "Oh my God! Are you all right?" Kaira asked her sister when she saw a thread of blood coming out of her finger. Kaysa shook her head and took a few steps backwards.

"What's wrong with the dress?" Frigga asked, making sure Kaysa was all right.

"It's not the kind of dress we elves wear at our weddings," Kaira explained and Frigga breathed a sigh of relief.

"Do you think you can fix it?" The queen whispered to Kaysa, who nodded reassuringly.

"I'm sure there's something we can do." Kaysa knelt down and began to draw with gold pencil different leaves joined together by thin spirals. Gradually, the dress took on another appearance more familiar to the sisters. Kaysa was almost finishing one side when the door opened.

"Sorry I'm late, Queen. But someone has detained me along the way." It was the voice of Ada, who was accompanied by Thor. Kaysa sat up and bowed slightly, letting her little work of art show. Thor's eyes focused on the entire work, including Kaira. His expression could not be clearer and his eyes glowed with tenderness. Ada, however, did not seem to appreciate it as much. "Wow... Is that the dress you're wearing to the ball?"

"Oh no. It's her wedding dress." Frigga replied. Thor's expression suddenly darkened. Kaysa hurried over to him in disguise.

"Really? I expected something else for an elven queen." Ada replied with a hint of contempt in her voice as she walked into the alcove to change clothes.

Kaira and Kaysa both looked at Ada a little annoyed, but neither made a comment. Kaira merely observed her reflection in the mirror as she moved her skirt to extend Kaysa's drawing. She would never have guessed that her sister was an artist in dresses.

Thor watched her in the distance. He saw how her mother approached her and treated her with great affection as if she were a daughter.

"Why don't you take her for a walk?" Thor bowed his head. Kaysa's voice was only a whisper. "The queen's gardens must be beautiful at this time. I'm sure she will enjoy it."

"I'm sure she has other business to attend to." Thor blushed slightly. At that moment Kaira arrived in her normal dress. Ada stood in the same place Kaira had occupied minutes earlier, calling Kaysa to fix her dress.

"Excuse me." Kaysa said as she obeyed. Before she started designing, she gave Ada a couple of laps. She had taken a blue dress, trying to impress Thor. Kaysa tried to concentrate on her figure to make the most of her curves and do something eye-catching, but something was distracting her. It was the laughter Thor and Kaira were exchanging. Ada turned to them, though it was more to Thor.

"What do you think?" She asked as she opened her skirt and turned over.

"It looks beautiful on you, Lady Ada. I don't think it needs any fixing." Kaira replied politely, staring at Kaysa. They knew perfectly well what the other was thinking.

"Thank you." Ada's tone was indifferent. "What do you think of the colour, Prince Thor?"

"The colour..." Thor murmured a little absent-mindedly.

"Why don't you try other colours?" Frigga asked, walking around the room. "Maybe green..."

"No. It's a colour that makes me too pale." Ada answered quickly. Frigga did not seem happy with the answer and looked at her hard.

Loki spent hours and hours locked in his room as he had the day before and the day before and the day before. There was not a single hole in the entire room that was not occupied by a pile of books. He needed to find a way to make a spell work, but something was slipping away from him. Frustrated, he decided to give it up for the time being.

He dropped down on the bed with lead, and a sweet but light scent of jasmine came up to his nose. A sad smile came over him. He turned to the side and there she was, lying on her bed on her side, leaning on her elbow and looking at him with amusement.

"Why did you call me?" Kaysa asked cheerfully without moving. Loki ran his hand over her without touching her. He knew what would happen if he touched her. "Won't you answer me?"

"I don't know," Loki replied after a while, dropping his hand on her hip, cutting through her and slowly making the illusion fade. Of course, he knew why he had called her. She was his inspiration and he thought maybe she would help him that time. Loki rose and hid his face in his hands. He knew he needed a little help from the one he had taught him.

Kaysa was picking up the dresses that Ada had left behind in Queen Frigga's room. They had spent hours trying to find a matching dress for Ada, but things picked up when Thor suggested that Kaira go out for some air. Kaysa had not seen anyone run so fast in changing clothes. She did not want to be separated from Thor or Kaira.

"Maybe it's because she feels good with them," Frigga replied as he helped Kaysa.

"Maybe." Kaysa bent down to pick up the paintings she had used for Kaira's dress. "Queen Frigga, may I ask you a question?" Kaysa did not look at her, waiting for confirmation from her side. "Why are you doing this?"

"Do what, my dear?" Frigga asked, distracted.

"This. You know full well that Thor has feelings for Kaira and her for him. Just watch them. Why bring them together when they cannot be together? Why do this cruelty?" Kaysa felt anger growing within her, but tried to contain herself. Frigga had long since stopped moving around the room.

"Because I want my sons to learn what real love is," Frigga replied. Kaysa went to reply, but the queen was quicker to speak. "Thor will be the future king of Asgard, and Loki will play an important role in his reign. They will be forced to take on a role they will have to play to the best of their ability." Kaysa listened carefully. She knew the roles the queen was referring to. "How are they going to play something they've never experienced before? How are they going to pretend to care for someone if they don't know what it feels like to love and be loved? You should understand me, Kaysa. "

"But Kaira is a queen."

"She's a rebel. Odin will never allow it." Frigga replied by lifting Kaysa off the ground. She was crying and the spell was wearing off.

"Why involve us?" She asked between sobs.

"Because that's the way fate has wanted it. It was not my choice. I'm sorry, my dear." Frigga looked tenderly at Kaysa and hugged her to comfort her. "Let me take these dresses to the workshop and we'll continue talking." Kaysa nodded and sat down in a little chair, trying to pull herself together.

Loki walked thoughtfully through the corridors leading to the queen's chamber. As he tried to come up with the excuse he would say when asked about the interest in that specific spell.

"I want something different for the ball and I don't think they'll have time to do it," Loki said aloud to himself. "No... It's a surprise, mother." He said again with one of his best smiles. "It might work." He had reached the doors of the chamber. He stopped in front of them. Nothing could be heard. "They must have finished the whole thing with the dresses." Loki breathed a sigh of relief. He was not going to meet Kaysa again. He knew that if they met again, they would argue again over the misunderstanding of that morning, and it was not something they should do in front of the queen if they wanted to keep their relationship secret for the time being. He opened the door slowly and stepped into the room.

Frigga was returning from leaving the dresses for one of the maids to return to the workshop when she saw Loki outside her door. She ran to hide and watch him. She knew that he and Kaysa were not well lately and perhaps they needed some privacy to work out whatever had happened between them. A mischievous smile blossomed on her face. She waited patiently for Loki to come in and close the door again. At that moment she blocked the door with a spell, sealing it completely. No one could enter or leave the room, at least not through the door, and the queen hoped that her son would not be so foolish as not to take advantage of the opportunity she was offering.
