Like a little family
Diane Gibbs was bored, her husband was working yet another weekend and she had nothing to do. She has cleaned the living room, the kitchen, the bedroom and both bathrooms and now she was faced with the task of sorting the laundry out. Diane was sceptical though about her husband's true location, he had been working an awful lot of weekends recently. So, she decided to phone the NCIS switch board.
"NCIS switchboard how may I direct your call,"
"I was wondering if Special Agent Gibbs MCRT was in the office today?" She asked politely, agreeing to hold a minute while the operator rang up.
"No sorry mam his team isn't on call this weekend; can I take a message?" Diane pursed her lips and hung up the phone, that bastard. She didn't have proof though, this was the problem, she wanted to catch him in the act, so she got out the yellow pages and searched for Shepard, finding her address Diane got in her car.
Driving through the streets of Georgetown Diane got angrier and angrier, how dare he do this to her, as she pulled into the street of residence of one Jennifer Shepard, she saw a sight she wasn't prepared to see. Rory was doing some dance in the front garden and he was stood watching , his arms wrapped around that skanky red head, a smile on his face. Diane hadn't even thought she'd seen him that happy. Diane parked her car across the street and opened her door, the rage evident in her mind.
Jenny and Gibbs were so engrossed In watching Rory do a wee routine they didn't see Diane Gibbs marching up the driveway. "You son of a bitch!" Diane screamed and Jenny jumped out of his arms, they'd been caught, literally.
Jenny walked over to Rory who looked confused, "Sweetheart why don't you go inside and get everything ready for the cookie making."
"No!" Diane screamed almost charging at Jenny. "I want the little one to know what a slut her mommy is," Diane said in a sickly tone, Jenny saw red, Gibbs came and stood in between the two, afraid of a literal fist fight.
"You don't dare bring my daughter into this Diane!" Jenny yelled, "You can do whatever the hell you want to me, you can all me all the names under the sun, but you keep my kid out of it, she's innocent." Rory burst into tears, she didn't like shouting and Mrs Gibbs was using mean words, you aren't supposed to use mean words. "You see what you've done." Jenny spat as she tried to comfort her crying 7 year old.
"Me!" Diane screeched, "Oh honey I amen't the one who was sleeping with a married man, I ament the one who tried to create a happy family with a married man because your child's father didn't stick around, you are the one who did this to your child, not me." Diane spat.
Jenny turned to Jethro who was just standing there, not really sure what to do "Get her out of here Jethro!" Jenny hissed and turned to Diane "before I do something I regret," she said with a warning tone, picking Rory up and carried her inside.
Gibbs attempted to remove Diane from the driveway, but she was having none of it.
"You will meet me at home Leroy, we have much to discuss." She shook her arm out of her grasp and marched down the driveway, back to her car.
Gibbs arrived home before Diane, he had been speeding, he was sitting on the couch when Diane stormed in the house, coming face to face with Gibbs. "You wouldn't imagine my surprise when I rang the NCIS switchboard asking to speak to you and they informed me you weren't at work." Gibbs glared at her; she had been checking up on him. "So, I knew something was up, they my suspicions were right. So, I looked her up, found her address and drove over there, hoping to find you in the act." Gibbs looked at the floor as the tears sprung to Diane's eyes. "But imagine the hurt when I pull up to her house and there she was in your arms, and I thought how pathetic and then I, I, I saw." She was choking on her words, trying to swallow the tears "You both smiling, watching that little girl dance." She burst into tears and he stood there. "You said you didn't want children Leroy!" she screamed as she got her crying under control.
"I don't," he grumbled, and Diane threw her hands up in the air.
"Really Leroy? Because you looked damn cosy in her arms watching that little girl like she was your own!" He didn't know what to say, so he didn't say anything at all.
"When did it start?" She asked barely a whisper. Gibbs wasn't sure what to answer, did she want to know the first time he kissed her? The first time they did stuff ? Or when they had sex for the first time?
"Baltimore," he answered running his hand over his face, he went for the latter.
"So that's what you've been doing when you've been working late? You've been with her? When you don't come home, you're sleeping with her?" She stood up smacking her hands on the table. "I had that woman and her child in my house for dinner Leroy. Do you know how stupid that makes me look? You made me feel like I was a paranoid psycho wife when really the whole time you-"she paused for a moment, "You both had that precious little girl lie for you!" she screamed livid. "That little girl told me you had only been over once, you horrible people made that baby lie."
"I'm sorry Diane." He said
"Do not waste your breath breaking one of your precious rules!" she was angry, "I should have left long ago, I am a fool for staying, you aren't capable of love."
"I'm going to take a walk to calm down" she announced after spending time in silence, "when I come back, I want you gone." she said. "You better hope that she's a bigger fool than me and that she'll take you in, you can make a little family with the whore and her bastard child." She spat.
He looked up her in disbelief, "You can call me names Diane, but do not bring Rory into this," he barked at her, and Diane just scoffed at him, of course he would defend the child. When she was to think back on the exchange later, sure she would feel bad for calling an innocent child such names, it wasn't her fault her mother was a whore.
He ran up the stairs and packed a bag, he didn't know where to go, he didn't want to put Jen in any kind of position. Where else could he go, he could go to a hotel, or crash on Fornell's couch, but he wanted her.
He pulled into her drive and parked behind her car, and he knocked on her door and waited. Rory opened the door covered in flour and Gibbs smiled, "Jet what are you doing back here?" Rory asked a bit sceptically, mom had said that he wouldn't be around for a while, and before he could answer her little eyes lit up, "are you here to help bake cookies, mommy isn't very good at it." She added. Jenny came out from the kitchen, dusting her floury hands off on her jeans.
"Who is it Ro- oh hello Jethro," she said looking at him with a pained look on her face, he didn't look okay
"Hey Rory," she said looking down at the girl who was beginning to notice something was wrong, "Can you go and roll out the dough please, I'll be right in." Rory looked from her mother back to Jet and then nodded, walking very slowly away
"Can I come in?" He asked nodding down to his bag in his hand and she nodded, too many feelings rushing around her body at once.
