Chapter 18

Of Claws and Clippers

A splash of hot tea right in the face isn't exactly the worst thing she'd experienced but it doesn't mean it's welcomed either. And considering the fact that the darned girl had thrown it with the teacup involved, the idea of Kyoya charging her for said cup stings more than the tea hitting her in the eyeballs.

"You forgot your place, nobody." Hana hissed from her seat and Kagome almost applauded her for her good aim - if only she wasn't busy sputtering out herbal tea leaves out of her nose.

"How could you?!" the ravenhead covered her face, hissing at the pain of heat against her skin. "I didn't even do anything to you!"

The petite girl scoffed- green eyes flashing as she smiled evilly at the hostess she just assaulted. The girl was obviously pained and the idea of her pretty face swelling up had her smirking.

"You'll get more than that if you don't behave." She daintily touched her cheek with a finger, smiling innocently. "Mitokado-senpai deserves the company of princesses after all, not filthy commoners."

She missed the odd silence that heavily contradicts the infamous host club -nor the steadily widening smirk Kagome was hiding behind her hand.

Hana simply continued to gloat.

"Please stop. I already have Ayanokoji-san as an enemy- I don't need more." Kagome sniffed, head low, shoulders shaking as she continued; "Is this all about Gin-kun?"

Bristling, Hana was quick to hiss. "Don't address Mitokado-kun as such! He's ours! And you can't take him away!"

Kagome's eyes flashed as if in victory, and Hana wondered.

"I can't recall myself being owned by anyone I'm afraid." The heiress stiffened like a cat that's gotten their tail stepped on, whirling around with doe, terrified eyes.

Ginmaru stood stiffly behind her, the fluorescent lights from the chandeliers above catching his glasses, hiding his normally warm eyes out of sight. She took a step back. The shadowed eyes staring at her from all corners of the room were similar to physical shots, painful and numb-inducing. The former pleasing atmosphere of the room was gone, Hana supposes, feeling more of an interrogation cell than a place of wooing.

"M-Mitokado-kun!" She stuttered.

Kagome moved from behind her, snapping to her full height and clicking her tongue at the soiled cloth of her dress. Gone was the meek hostess weeping over hot tea and broken china -Hana only realized that everything was an act- replaced by a smirking girl with complete control over the situation.

Blue eyes glowed back at her.

"You have no idea how hard it is not to retaliate, Ijiwaruna-san." Kagome drawled, raising a hand to push at the wet strands of hair away from her face, slicking back the bangs and showing more of her victorious expression. "If not for the fact that I need you to spill what I want you too, you would've been crying now for sure."

A girl -one of the host regulars- walked close and worriedly dabbed at the droplets of tea still kissing at Kagome's skin and soon enough, more allies -not Hana's, never hers- began to flock.

She began to shake.

"I'm immensely disappointed Hana-chan." Ginmaru's voice was calm but everyone could hear the underlying steel in it.

"N-no! It's a misunderstanding!" the sting of tears came and she cried. "She set me up!" This isn't how it's supposed to go. Not like this. Never like this.

Ginmaru shook his head at her and everyone watching could almost feel pity -but as it is, they only see her as a threat to their friend, and therefore, not worth their empathy.

"I saw everything Hana-chan." His voice was steady. "You hurt Kagome-chan because you're jealous."

"How horrible of her."

"Such rotten personality."

"She'll never have a chance now."

The voices were low but Hana's ears were ringing. She looked around and only saw judging, angry, apathetic eyes.

-Except for the twin pools of blue watching with satisfaction as she crumbled.

"Stop looking at me like that!" Her heart hurts and Mitokado-kun was looking at her and why did everything turned so badly- she failed and oh no Nakamura-san will have her head-

"You see Ijiwaruna-san-" Kagome sweetly said, smiling coquettishly at the breaking heiress -cold blue eyes, sinister smile, crinkling lids, victorious glower- "I've already won the race before you can even start."

The twins silently escorted the shaken girl out of the room -the heiress looking quite shaken with mumbled apologies towards Ginmaru spilling out of thin lips- and Kagome watched with a hand on a cocked hip, face unreadable and indifferent. It's almost too easy, bringing down someone to their knees, and it only took a cup of tea right on the face to do so.

"Good job Haruhi. Everything unfolded as you predicted." Kyoya stated after the twins came back with scowls on identical faces. The Hitachiin boys made a beeline for the hostess, clicking their tongues at the irritated skin of Kagome's cheek.

Hissing when Hikaru poked at the flesh, she shooed them away and they stepped back, pouting.

The brunette walked closer and squinted her eyes. "Not everything." Haruhi pressed a cold towel against Kagome's face, the other regulars teetering nervously over the hostess. "-I didn't expect her to assault Kagome." Her stomach was twisting and she softly apologized when Kagome made a sound from how hard she was pushing the towel in.

She miscalculated and the reddened skin by her fingertips was almost unbearable to look at. Haruhi immediately recognized the girl as one of the vipers from yesterday, notifying Kyoya about it when she saw the student fill in a designation request hours ago. Knowing based on her own experience with jealous heiresses, Haruhi was quick to formulate a plan and even managed to sneak Ginmaru in without Hana noticing.

"Haruhi, Im fine." Kagome said, seeing the hidden turmoil rolling beneath Haruhis' calm gaze. In a way, it's her fault -being too aggressive with her words unlike the original plan of gently coaxing out the truth from Hana's very lips.

But she really can't help it! The girl was asking for it and she's more than happy to deliver.

"See what you did?!" Tamaki howled, quick to point fingers now that the situation had finally blown over. The prince was pointing accusingly at Ginmaru and the taicho actually seemed to accept the allegation. "Your girls did that to our Kagome!"

The kicked puppy look on his face earned a series of coos from the girls around and Tamaki deflated.

"Stop it Tamaki it's not his fault!" the hostess mildly bonked the blonde on the head. "Besides, we all know this is bound to happen sooner or later."

"I'm sure Ijiwaruna-san's father will be pleased to know that his daughter assaulted a schoolmate." Kyoya was smiling and everyone shivered at the way the air trembled around him. Similar to Haruhi, the Shadow Lord felt chagrined as well for not seeing the possibility of Hana physically going for their hostess. His fingers tightened around his board. It's been a while since he's this pissed.

Shaking the twins' hands away from her face -the blasted brothers once more began manhandling her-, Kagome turned to Kyoya. "Don't involve the adults. I doubt Ijiwaruna-san's the root of the problem."

"What do you mean Kagome-chan?" Ginmaru asked and Kagome smiled at him softly and insisted that he's not accountable for the actions of his admirers.

"I know how this works. Someone else is pulling the strings and probably sent Ijiwaruna-san to scope out the battlefield." she explained, wincing briefly at the feel of the dress sticking to her skin. "Now that they saw that she failed, they'll be pulling more and more stunts until they see the results they want."

"I'll do something about this. This is not acceptable." Ginmaru declared and everyone collectively agreed that anger does not suit the kyudo taicho.

'Their behavior is unbecoming. This one will see to it that they act accordingly from now on.' Golden eyes shone with skillfully veiled anger and she held her breath as he delivered retribution in her stead.

Kagome shook her head -a way to chase away the brief memory and at the same time, showing negation towards Ginmaru's plan.

"Don't. I already have a plan and I just need to know who's their leader and then-" she mimed cutting into something, smiling despite the ominous aura that leaked out of her angelic facade. "-I'll nip them down for good."

"Aa- there she is-" The twins inched away from the hostess and her evil vibes. "-it's been a while since Kagome smiled with that much teeth."

"Are you sure you'll be okay Go-chan?" Honey asked, Usa-chan gripped tightly in his arms. His cousin was ever looming behind him, eyes narrowed ever so slightly as he pinned Kagome with an almost displeased look.

"I'll be fine Mitsukuni. That's for you too Takashi so stop looking at me like that."

The senior huffed -if you squint you could see it- and scratched at the back of his neck. He knew how stubborn and boorishly independent their hostess is and Mori can't decide whether to admire her or curse her for it.

Probably a little bit of both.

"Do you really have everything under control Kagome?" She looked down at Haruhi who was staring at her with big, brown eyes, uncertain, fearful for her friend who's probably willing to jump in front of a car just to prove a point.

A deep seated seed of anger began to blossom and Haruhi can't help but to feel a tad bit frustrated at how Kagome planned to handle things. Knowing her, she'd probably pull some ridiculous stunt and she can't even-

"Maa- maa-" Drawing the brunette close, Kagome laid her head down against the top of Haruhi's hair and patted her back for comfort. "You worry too much Haruhi- you're beginning to sound like Tono." Both girls ignored Tamaki's indignant shout of hey and simply tried to make peace with Kagome's intended plan.

The regulars around them cooed and awed at the picture and Kyoya sneakily snapped some photos, the twins staring at him in a deadpan manner.

Talk about being opportunistic. They thought.

After finally convincing everyone that she's got everything under wraps, Kagome bid farewell to the rest of the occupants of the room and left with the seniors for their respective training schedule, something that still displeases the rest of the host club, not that they can do anything about it.

"I don't like this." Tamaki scowled, itching to report the incident to his father -knowing Kagome, she'll probably scold him and put him on a strict no-Kagome-hugs for an indefinite length of time- but can't. "Mommy what should we do?!"

A sigh. "We wait. Kagome's right. We can't do anything about this until we figure out who's leading the girls to go after her." Kyoya pushed at his glasses, lips in a tight line as he began pulling out information about Kagome's potential bullies. "We close around on the head, we end this for good." As much as he wants to get involved, this was nothing compared to Haruhi's issue -this has multiple parties involved and as long as they're all blind, unaware of their enemies, his hands are tied.

"Shouldn't Mitokado-senpai-taicho-san do something about it?"

Silence, but then Haruhi spoke up. "I don't think that's a good idea. Mitokado-senpai doesn't know who's behind this as well. If he makes a move, the bullying might worsen and that will be bad for Kagome."

"Can't we really do anything?" Hikaru frowned and kicked irately at the floor. Kaoru swung an arm around his shoulders, defeated. "We can trust Kagome. She probably already has everything planned."

The clients murmured to themselves, equally worried for their favorite hostess. For a group of girls who wear their hearts on their sleeves, the thought of bullying was completely foreign and unwelcomed. They just hope that it will end soon so everything will go back to normal.

-If only everyone knew the dark clouds looming over the horizon.

A broken vase of flowers, a crying girl on her knees.

"I'm sorry Nakamura-san." Hana sniffled, green eyes bloodshot. "She framed me. I didn't know Mitokado-kun was there."

Nakamura Miharu glowered, obsidian eyes flashing with contempt. She tilted her head in an appraising manner, brown, curly hair falling across her eyes, shadowing the already malevolent pools of blackness, pale skin standing out.

"Hana-" the girl flinched as if struck. "-not only did you disappoint me. You allowed that wretch to feel as if she'd won." She walked over to the lavish couch by the windows and ran a hand over it's plush exterior. Velvet, she hums. A chair worthy for a queen like her.

Crossing her legs, she leaned on a hand.

"Now tell me why I shouldn't tell father about this?" Her lips tilted in a rancid smile at the sheer fear that crossed Hana's doll-like face. She twirled a hair around her finger.

"U-um-" Hana choked, trying to grasp at straws, trying to look for something to offer in exchange of her proverbial neck. A click. A name. She gasped in victory. "She mentioned someone. Someone she made enemies with."

A tilt of a brow.

Intrigued.

"Ayanokoji Seika-chan from class 3-B." The redhead from the sub-par company that rations mediocre quality woodworks, something Miharu never really gave much thought on. The Ayanokoji girl was never considered a potential ally -servant really- that she can use but perhaps, it's time to change tactics.

A queen can never be too picky, she supposed.

Miharu glanced outside of the windows, eyes briefly passing over the Ouran's lavish garden, barely acknowledging the four nobodies in it, until she smiled.

Perhaps, an official attempt will do them good.

Twack-

Twack-

Twack-

"Kagome-chan, you're scaring the regulars." A gasped escaped her lips and Kagome rounded at Ginmaru, fingers growing lax around the fletching of an arrow, ready to be knocked, like the first three she had sent across the field.

"You just sent three arrows flying with almost no hanging time, and everything hits the middle of the target-" He was almost laughing at the absurdity of her talent, lips tilting in a suppressed smile at the sheepish look Kagome gave him. "-they think you might've gotten a spirit involved."

Kagome had the decency to blush as she looked around and saw that yes, indeed, the regulars of the kyudo club were staring at her in what she can clearly identify as awe and fear.

She apologetically laughed at them. "Aa- Im sorry everyone." she bowed and the students waved her off with an easy laugh.

Ginmaru crossed his arms and leveled a piercing look at his companion. "What's bothering you? If it's about yesterday I did tell you I can do something about it."

"You can-" she shrugged. "-but it won't put an end to this. And I'll be blunt Gin-kun, but you getting involved might actually worsen things up." The kyudo taicho had already forbidden his fans from loitering around the kyudojo ever since her incident with Hana a day prior and Kagome can't help but sigh- Ginmaru has his heart in the right place but his action merely added fuel to the fire.

He pursed his lips, brows crinkling. "This isn't right. We can get the admins involved."

"I don't want to spend the rest of my days constantly looking over my shoulders Gin-kun, the teachers can only do so much against jealous girls and their thirst to stake their claim on you."

Copper eyes regarded her cooly, the constant relaxed expression replaced by a cold mask and Kagome diverted her eyes from him, not willing to see his image overlap with a memory of someone who had constantly plagued her dreams- or nightmares.

"I can protect you." he whispered- she stiffened. "Give me a chance, I'll keep you safe."

She smiled at him, a sad, little upturn of the lips. "You know I can't do that Gin-kun. Like I said from before, I'm not in a good place to entertain suitors or to be in a relationship." her voice had fallen to a mere murmur but Ginmaru could hear her completely, and it aches. "You deserve more."

"Why do you always look so sad?" He asked instead, running his curled fingers against the bottom of her eyes.

"I'm not."

"Lying does not suit you Kagome." without the honorific, even his voice sounded similar, and she cursed herself for being soft, for being cruel- Ginmaru deserves more than someone like her who fails to let go of the past that has willingly forgotten her.

She had hated Inuyasha for resurrecting Kikyo in her image- but now she's doing the same to Ginmaru.

The fates truly are cruel.

"Higurashi!" The call of her name was enough to dash the intimate atmosphere between the two and Ginmaru was quick to pull away, hands clenching, heating up at the feel of her skin against his fingertips.

"What is it Najeru?" He asked his fuku-taicho and the boy briefly bowed to him before turning to Kagome.

"Some girls are looking for you." the vice still regarded her stoically- he seems to not have gotten over the bad experience with her from back then but Kagome could really care less. "-they were insistent despite telling them that you are not to be disturbed during training period."

"Thank you Najeru-san." After the brief word of gratitude, she spun to her heel and walked towards the entrance of the dojo. Ginmaru followed, worried that the girls might actually be one of Kagome's recent followers.

"Kimiko-chan? Momoka-chan?" She easily recognized the two Haruhi regulars- the duo were near inseparable whenever the brunette was involved after all. They were looking quite distressed and already, she can feel something's up.

"K-Kagome-chan!" Momoka was quick to approach, hand grasping at the white uwagi of her kyudo uniform. "I-it's the gardening club!"

Words began to drown out and Ginmaru watched as something in the air shifted.

"Thank you for telling me, girls." There was a sense of eerie calm on how Kagome talked and the three students briefly felt cold- enhanced immediately by the following smile on the hostess' face. "Now if you'll please excuse me, I'll drop by to give my friends a hand."

The girls nodded and Ginmaru cannot fault them for their shaky actions, Kagome looked as if she's willing to swallow a person whole after all, and make a toothpick out of their bones probably. She then turned swiftly and began to walk away, brisk paced and Ginmaru silently followed- if he can't put a stop to this ridiculous game, he'll just have to play it with her.

It wasn't long before they reached the bridge connecting the west and east wing together, also conveniently placed directly on top of the gardening club's area, from which when they looked down upon, was a wreck.

The whole place was in a disarray. Ginmaru noted. Flowers were uprooted, pots were broken, and four guys were being ganged upon by- he narrowed his eyes and counted- eight? Or is it nine? Nine guys.

He didn't even blink when his friend- what should he call her? Intended? Crush? Object of his affection? Type? Lady love? -took a step back and promptly jumped out of the two story something window, descending upon the maelstrom of testosterone below like some sort of avenging angel. Ginmaru was still thinking of various labels of endearment to address Kagome with when he reared up and followed after her, easily vaulting over the security beams of the window.

"Stop jumping out of windows or you'll end up breaking something!" He heard one of the beat up guys shriek of all things and then it clicked. Ginmaru frowned.

"I do hope this is not a habit Kagome-chan." he said.

Kagome raised a brow at him, saying something about a pot calling the kettle black.

"So you're the Higurashi. I didn't expect you to be so-" eyes roamed the entirety of her figure, malicious and lustful. "-pretty."

"I do hope you know that you and your friends will be held accountable for the damages here in the Gardening club." her words rang in the area, followed by snickers and chuckles of the men sent over to scare her.

"Not to mention, you hurt my members- one of them, a middle schooler nonetheless." she gave them a closed eyed smile, injecting her body language and voice with pure warning- which she secretly hopes they ignore.

They did.

The men closed in on them and seemingly ignored Ginmaru who's oddly calm, specks gleaming as he nonchalantly tightened the strip of silk holding his hair together.

"What are you gonna do about it if we don't?" The leader, in a bold but ultimately stupid decision, reached out to mockingly touch the girl- only to be met by Ginmaru's iron grip.

Like a pair of smiling demons, the two archers turned to the troublemaker.

"It's rude to touch a lady without her permission."

"Stay out of this Mitokado." the student hissed, ripping away his wrist from the taicho's grip. "We wouldn't want that girly face of yours to be bruised up now do we?" They have orders, and they know Ginmaru must be left alone, but should he struggle, he'll be dealt with.

They just won't leave any marks on his face so the crazy bitch won't sic her attention on them.

"K-Kagome-" Ritsu called out weakly, he'd just taken a hit for the little Kaisen and he must've bruised a rib. "They stomped all over your spider lilies."

Said girl robotically turned towards the area where the flowers she oh-so painstakingly took care of were located, and saw trampled flower beds and dying flora.

"You're all so fucked now!" Minamoto cackled and a body began flying across the area.

"I would've left you off without breaking any bones-" Kagome cracked her knuckles, a tick pulsing angrily at her temples and the group of thugs involuntarily took a step back. "-but now you seriously pissed me off!"

Ginmaru owlishly watched as Kagome began beating the living shit out of everyone and made a sound at the back of his throat. He winced when the girl landed a particularly low blow. That's foul Kagome-chan-

"Ah- Kagome's got everything under control already." The taicho looked up and saw the host club watching from the connecting bridge, probably informed by the same girls that reported the incident to Kagome.

He waved and only Honey returned the gesture.

'They still don't like me' He thought in amusement.

The twins were smirking and cheering their hostess on, blatantly laughing as the group of men got methodically taken down by a girl -twice their size- single handedly.

"Kick him right in the balls Kagome!" Hikaru heckled and laughed when a pained howl echoed right after. "Do it again!" Another pained squeal came from the same guy and the younger Hitachiin cackled along his brother.

"M-my delicate Kagome-" Tamaki whimpered, hiding behind Kyoya as he winced and cringed with every hit Kagome delivered- almost feeling the blows in the men's stead.

"This will be a lovely addition to the Kagome collection." Kyoya watched from behind the screen of his camera, a pleased smile on his money hungry face. "I'll give Momoka-san and Kimiko-san discounts for notifying us about this issue."

"Go-chan go for the other ones instead!" Kagome must've literally smashed the balls of the same guy into oblivion, - the boy passing out from the sheer trauma of living the rest of his life without kids- might've even bruised up his meat saber along the way and bore down on a different target. "Go for the neck next Go-chan!" Honey giggled.

"You guys are having way too much fun." Haruhi mumbled. The brunette continued watching though, sweat dropping as the guys began dropping like flies. "She must be really angry huh."

Mori pointed at the flowerbed from earlier and said to Haruhi; "They destroyed her favorite flowers."

"Ah."

"Aren't you going to help, Mitokado-senpai-taicho-san?" They all redirected their attention from Kagome -who was now stomping on a guy's face- to Ginmaru who was currently sitting on the grass as he watched armageddon unfold in front of him.

"I rather not. Kagome-chan seems fired up." A yell of not the hair! Not the hair! Briefly interrupted him and he chuckled. "I don't want to take the fun away from her." They didn't need to know that he truly planned on pulling a complete bishonen stunt and awe Kagome with his own fighting skills- only to be wowed in return much to his halfhearted chagrin.

'Maa, it's going to be hard honoring her wishes if she keeps on catching my heart like this-'

"Ah- he's going to be bald now." Rika commented, on his stomach and watching everything like one would do on a movie night with friends.

"You really shouldn't have mentioned the spider lilies Kasanoda-san-" Minari said in pity. Poor boys looked as if the second coming of c*rist had come and out of their asses. "-you know nee-sama can go a bit overboard."

Ritsu slouched and crossed his legs. "Nah, they deserve it."

"Who the hell is stupid enough to send after the Gardening club with that-" Rika jabbed a finger towards Kagome -who's starting to clean up and began tossing unconscious bodies on the pile of manure. "-around?"

"You're mistaken Saotome Rika of the Saotome-gumi." Kyoya stated as the rest of the host club migrated down the gardening area. Ignoring the callous question of who the fuck are you? from the yakuza, the bespectacled host simply pushed his glasses higher. "You lot are not the target."

"What do you mean specks?" Minamoto asked. "Don't tell me there someone's actually more stupid than us to butt heads with Higurashi?" His voice fell into a whisper, not noticing the presence of said Higurashi listening in from behind him, Minari, Rika and Ritsu already crawling away from the area of possible destruction. "-that girl's a fucking monster and I bet she's actually a demon hiding behind-"

"While your confidence in me is cute,-" The yakuza youngling squeaked as if his balls had been kicked. "-yes, someone is after my head and tried to get to me by going through you."

'What the hell did she do to these three?' the hosts -except for the first years- thought as Kagome stood over the cowering delinquents.

"Isn't that counter productive though? They can just retaliate right?" their families have powers after all. They can easily strike in return.

Kagome shook her head at Haruhi's words. "Ie, if the gardening club does fight back, it'll automatically point to them causing the trouble in the first place. People don't usually consider the fact that delinquents can be the victims for once."

"But I must say so…" The hostess tapped a finger against her cheek. "...with this kind of stunt, they certainly have my attention." she laughed and everyone shivered at the sound. "I'm quite pissed really."

"Go-chan's angry!" Honey singsonged and the rest of the students sweatdropped at how unaffected the blonde senior was to the deadly intent flowing out from their normally merciful hostess.

"Whoever's behind this, they have no idea what they're getting into…"

Miharu took a sip from her cup. One, two- with a scream, she hurled the china and watched as it shattered against the wall in tiny pieces. She took a breath and fluffed up her hair. No use getting so worked up, she thinks. A queen never loses her cool.

"Higurashi knows how to fight back." Her recent pawn calmly stated, red hair falling softly across dainty shoulders. "It's moot point to try and scare her into backing down." Grey eyes flashed.

Miharu smiled and crossed her legs.

"What are you implying? Seika-san?" Ayanokoji Seika took a shallow sip from her tea cup and tossed a lock of hair over her shoulders, calm, poised, collected.

What a pretty shade of hair. Miharu concedes. How badly she wants to cut them off- but making enemies with a potential, important ally in such dire situation is the main priority.

She can always do it when Higurashi's done and taken care of.

"The Higurashi wretch is helpless as long as you have something important at your disposal." It's based on her own experience after all. Seika took another sip and hummed. Darjeeling, ever pleasing.

"I assume you'd want to strike the fear in her yourself?" Miharu giggled, the sound piercing and saccharinely sweet.

"While normally I'd like to watch from the shadows, I guess it's time for me to personally see to it." Her fist closed around on a rose, choking the petals. "She really angers me. Denied my mercy twice?"

Seika smiled, cruel and cold.

"Then I'll strike her down for good myself." Miharu, after all, likes to get things done.

The red head slid a photo on the table and watched as a gleam of recognition sparked on Miharu's black, void like eyes.

"Hold this one over Higurashi's head, you win the game."

The Nakamura heiress drummed her nails on top of the coffee table -carved skillfully with symbols and and flowers, nothing short of best.

Biting her lip as her fingers took hold of the picture, Miharu let out a delighted laugh at the linchpin of Higurashi Kagome's downfall.

"Let's play, Fujioka Ha-ru-hi-san~"
