Bonus 5: Parents love shines like gold

Author's note: This scene would take place after the third scene of chapter 15 of my fanfic "Mafuyu Kirisu, the ice queen".

Mrs. Kirisu: Since you're going to spend the afternoon together, stay for lunch at least, home cooking will always be better than eating out at some fast food restaurant or buy something in a supermarket.

Mafuyu: (Resigned) Okay...

Mr. Kirisu: And tell us, Yuiga, what does your family do?

Nariyuki: My father was a History teacher, he was your daughter's teacher when she was in high school, and my mother works as a shop assistant at the mall where your daughter's friend Amada-san works.

Mr. Kirisu: Oh, I see.

Nariyuki: (Laughs a little) We're not exactly wealthy, but we work very hard to get the family going, especially after my father died. While I was at university, I worked part-time at jobs that my friends offered me: in craft shops, clothing stores, cafés, restaurants... Thanks to that and the grants, my sister and I have been able to study. I hope that now with my teacher's salary I can help my mother more. My younger siblings are twins, so they will study at the same time when the time comes.

Mr. Kirisu: How old are they?

Nariyuki: Hazuki and Kazuki are 10, and Mizuki is almost 20.

Mr. Kirisu: Wow, almost 10 years apart. I wouldn't recommend you wait this long.

(Nariyuki and Mafuyu blush embarrassed)

Mafuyu: (Annoyed) Dad!

Mrs. Kirisu: And tell us, Mafuyu, have you thought about that yet? About having children?

Mafuyu: (Annoyed) No, mother, we haven't had that conversation yet.

Mrs. Kirisu: Well, I hope you talk about that soon, (excited) I'm looking forward to being a grandmother.

(Nariyuki and Mafuyu blush embarrassed)

Miharu: I don't think we should put pressure on them. Although to be honest, I'm looking forward to being an aunt too.

Mafuyu: (Annoyed) If you are so impatient to see and take care of a baby, you can move in at Aunt Akina's house.

Mrs. Kirisu: (Serving the dishes) Please, don't get upset for that, we were just joking.

Mafuyu: (Annoyed, quietly) Sure.

(...)

(After lunch)

(Mrs. Kirisu comes with an envelope and gives it to Mafuyu and Nariyuki. They open it and spit out the tea)

Mafuyu: (Very surprised) Mo-Mom, have you gone crazy?!

Nariyuki: (Nervous) M-Mrs. Kirisu, this is definitely too much.

Mrs. Kirisu: (Melancholy) You can take this as our apology letter. I'm sure the first few years of college were very hard for you due to our behavior. During all this time we've given Miharu everything she needed while you were managing to do everything on your own. It's the least your father and I can do after all the suffering we've caused you. Use this money to pay the wedding and to buy a new house.

Mafuyu: A new house?

Mrs. Kirisu: You can't live all your life in that apartment, don't you? It's fine for one person, but it's too small for a young married couple who will probably have children in the next few years. And, by the way, what happened to the car?

Mafuyu: What do you mean? You saw it yourself, it was destroyed.

Mrs. Kirisu: I meant if have you bought a new one?

Mafuyu: No, not yet, I was saving up for it.

Miharu: Saving up?

Mafuyu: Yes. I didn't tell you anything because I didn't want you to worry, but I'm working as a teacher again.

Miharu and Mr. and Mrs. Kirisu: (Displeased) What?!

Miharu: (Disappointed) And what about figure skating?

Mafuyu: I haven't quit, don't worry. I meant that I'm working as a teacher (remarking) AND as a coach.

(All three sigh relieved)

Miharu: (Realizes what she has already said) Wait, Nee-sama, does that mean you have two jobs now?

Mafuyu: Yes, that's right.

Mrs. Kirisu: Mafuyu, you could have told us that you needed money, we would had been happy to help you.

Mafuyu: I'm don't need money! The car isn't something essential. Besides, I did it because one of the school teachers was on leave. It's only for two terms, just while the maternity leave lasts.

Mrs. Kirisu: (Worried) It's still very tiring. Why don't you quit? We don't want your health to suffer because of this, it's too much...

Mafuyu: (Determined) I'm perfectly healthy in all senses: physically, mentally and emotionally, and I'm working as a teacher because I like it. Yes, it's true that it's a little tiring, but Yuiga-kun has been helping me since the very beginning and has never left me alone; when I had to take care of Natsumi and Akiko, he came to my house and helped me with them: with the baths, diapers, bottles and food; when I went to practice, he stayed home with the girls, studying, preparing classes and playing with them; and when I arrived he had the dinner ready and the girls showered, changed and eaten; and on the weekends he also helps me with shopping and housework so I can catch up with everything and also get some rest. Thanks to him I have been able to combine the two things I like the most: teaching and figure skating. And even though I work twelve hours a day, I always get up and come home with a smile on my face, even when I'm tired, and that's because I'm doing what I really want to do. In fact, I'm even thinking about coming back next year, because, yes, I may not have as much free time in the evenings and on weekends, but now I'm happier than ever: I'm working on the two things I love most in this world and I have the nicest, sweetest, hardest-working person in the world by my side. Yuiga-kun always tries hard in everything he does, puts his heart into it and has always been there to help me when I have needed it, even when he was a student.

Mrs. Kirisu: (Smiles) If everything you've said is true, let me tell you that you've hit the jackpot with this boy, and he's going to be a wonderful father. (Nariyuki smiles) I was worried because I thought it was too much for you, but I can see that you're not alone and that you have plenty of energy to cope with all this.

Miharu: You scared me too, Nee-sama, but I'm happy to know that you have Yuiga-san by your side and that you're living the life you want. If you ever need help with anything, don't hesitate to ask, whether it's cooking, tidying up or even substituting yourself as a coach if you ever get sick or have any obligations.

Mafuyu: (Smiles) Thank you, Miharu. We've precisely put the wedding on a weekend to avoid coinciding with classes and trainings, so everyone can come and we don't have to skip work because of that.

Miharu: What about the honeymoon?

Mafuyu: We will celebrate it a bit later, during the Golden Week.

Miharu: (Smiles) Wow, Nee-sama, you have it all planned. Well, if you want, when you have children, I can take care of the skating team for the first few months.

Mafuyu: Well, before that I have to check if you're qualified for the job, your standards are terrifying, I don't want any of the girls to leave the team during that time.

Miharu: (Happy) You can test me whenever you want.

Mafuyu: I'll do it when the time comes, I don't want to scare the girls this soon. But step by step, now let's buy the dresses.
