Chapter 26 - Prisoner of War

Finn woke up to a dimly lit room. He was in a dark cellar. He tried to remember everything that had happened. After around 5 minutes, he had pieced together a story up until he blacked out. Now, he somehow felt a lot better than he had before, and there was a bandage wrapped around his arm. He felt a lot better than before, but still felt a jolting pain in his arm every now and then. Suddenly the door swung open and a man stormed into the room.

"Good, you're awake." he growled in Bengali. He dragged Finn out the room, into a side room, where Amir Asif himself was waiting.

"Good morning, sir. How are you feeling?" he asked, very courteous for a drug lord.

"Pretty good," he replied honestly. "Very confused right now. Why aren't I dead?"

"We needed you alive more than dead."

"Thanks, I guess."

"Now down to business," the terrorist said. "What's your name?"

"Hugh Jorgasm."

Asif laughed mercilessly. "Funny guy are you? Let's see you laughing now." One of Asif's men stepped on Finn's bad arm, causing a blinding pain to rip through his whole body. The man kept putting pressure on it for a whole minute before Asif gestured to him to remove his foot.

"I'll ask you again, what is your name?

"Matt Sterbate." he replied, glaring at him.

The man stepped on his shoulder again. He went through this a few more times before Asif threw him back in his cell and let him rest. Finn was given the minimal amount of food needed to survive, so he was still starving.

Meanwhile, back in New York, Quinn and Sarah were packing up their dorm, ready to move out. Kurt was sitting on the couch, humming to a broadway tune when they heard a knock on the door.

"I'll get it," Quinn said, and walked towards the door. Dirty was standing at the door with a grave expression on his face. She knew what he was about to say and her legs gave out. He caught her and helped her inside. Kurt and Sarah were standing there, confused.

"Kurt Hummel?"

"Yeah, who wants to know?"

"You're Finn's brother, right?"

"Yeah."

"Come sit down. I have some bad news."

Kurt stumbled over to the couch. Expecting the worst. Dirty briefly summarised the mission to them and ended with the part about Finn being shot.

"So, is he…" Quinn asked, with tears streaming down her face.

"He's not confirmed to be dead. He's MIA. But I'm sorry but there's a good chance he didn't survive. We have the child who Finn rescued in a written statement, and he said that Finn was blacking out, and Finn told him to run, as he faded away."

Sarah, Kurt and Quinn were all crying and were still in shock. Quinn started to full-out sob after a minute. After a couple more "I'm sorry's", Dirty left the dorm. They all spent the rest of the night crying and reminiscing past memories of Finn.

3 months later

It had been almost 3 months since Finn had been captured. He had been tortured in every way known to man: waterboarded, burned, cut and many other gruesome methods. After two months of being MIA, the military allows there to be an empty casket funeral and they also release the last will and testament. Finn could feel his strength slowly zapping away and knew something. If he didn't escape then, he never would. He vowed that that day, he would escape. He was given a glass of wine with dinner, something he was given every night by Amir Asif and something he would never understand why. He hid the glass in his cellar and, an hour later, poured it all over his bandaged arm. It looked like he was bleeding again.

"Help! I need a doctor! My arm's bleeding again!" he shouted from his cellar. A head peered through the window and saw Finn's arm covered in blood. He realised that Finn wasn't trying anything and actually was injured, so a doctor ran into the room. As soon as he shut the door, Finn snapped his neck and took the pistol out of his jacket pocket. He had been silent so far so nobody knew that anything was wrong. He tiptoed out of the cellar and used the silenced pistol to kill the guards. He picked up the guard's M4 and left the room. Still, nobody knew anything was wrong as he had used a silenced pistol, but he knew as soon as he took a shot, they would hear him. Finn tiptoed out of the basement and learnt that he was being held in the basement of Asif's mansion. He managed to escape out of the door and into the front lawn, before anyone noticed that something was off. However, Asif's men soon noticed that Finn wasn't in the cellar and raised the alarm. His stealth plan had gone out the window at this point so he just mowed down everything in sight. He managed to make it to the hangar, and he dived into the helicopter that was there. He started to take off, when gunfire rained down on the chopper. He managed to make it into the air, but the chopper was in bad shape. He knew it wouldn't last much longer so he quickly strapped on a parachute. He jumped out when he heard the engine start sputtering and making weird noises. Sure enough, ten seconds after he jumped, the helicopter exploded. He pulled the chute at the perfect time, and landed safely on the ground. He had absolutely no idea where in the world he was. He had no money in his pockets and due to flags, he knew he was somewhere in Nepal. He stole a map from a stall and learnt that he was in Kathmandu - the Capital. It had been 3 months of hell, so he completely forgot the phone number of anyone he knew. He had only one choice: stowaway on a plane and hope to god he ended up in Western Europe or North America. He used the map to find a private runway and he managed to stow away on a plane. He had repacked his chute after his first jump so was prepared to pull it when the wheel compartment opened and the plane prepared for landing. He knew he was going to have trouble breathing, but he forced himself to bite and bear it. He clambered into the wheel compartment and prepared himself for the flight.

Take off was the hardest part. He was in a pullup position in the wheel compartment for nearly 20 minutes, before the wheels came up and they were in the air. Finn took as shallow breaths as possible, trying to prolong the oxygen he had in the compartment. Finally, after what he estimated was around 14 hours, and his lungs were about to burst, the wheel compartment opened and he fell out. He had about 10 seconds, before he had to pull his chute. He ended up landing on a public street, to the surprise and fear of many people. After all, he was a huge man, completely scarred, holding a gun. He instantly realised where he was. He was in Calgary, Canada. One of the scared citizens had called the police, and Finn was taken into Mountie custody. He immediately informed them of his situation, and, an hour and a couple of calls later, he was on a first class flight to Virginia. He could enjoy the many amenities though. He was too busy worrying about what had happened while he was away for 3 months, both with his family, and with his job. Had Dirty, Clint and Ben made it after all? For all Finn knew, they could have been in a different cell in the same job. Finally, he touched down in Virginia and was greeted by Captain Brady. The Captain was normally a very formal man, who only ever shook hands with people. But when Finn stepped off the plane, he was embraced in a huge hug by his boss.

"Hi Captain! Was the mission successful?"

"Yes, Ben was successfully returned to the States with his family. Him and his family, as well as your own, are coming to see you tomorrow for the ceremony."

Finn let out a sigh of relief, and then looked confused. "Wait, ceremony? What ceremony?"

"Your medal of honor ceremony, of course. You're receiving the medal of honor and the Purple Heart for this mission. You gave more to the SEALs than anyone ever did. You went through literal shit. Betrayed by a fellow SEAL. Taken prisoner. Well, you get the picture. Anyways, I have to ask, what did they do to you there? You have a formal debriefing with the CIA as well in Dam Neck, but just asking SEAL to SEAL."

"Well it wasn't picnics and Snakes & Ladders, that's for sure. They tortured me in every way possible: starving, drowning, burning, slicing, stepping on my arm. And that was just the first month's activities. Then, after a day of torture, Asif would give me a glass of wine. I think he was trying to convince me to turn to his side."

"Did you?" Captain Brady asked, looking his officer right in the eye.

"Of course not! How dare you! After all the shit I've been through, you accuse me of being a snake!"

"I'm sorry, Finn. I trust you. It's just with everything that happened with John…" he trailed off.

"I'm sorry for being so defensive. I totally get it. Hell, I was there when he died. I know that more than anyone."

Captain Brady nodded. They spent the next few hours in the Conference room of Dam Neck. Finn was being debriefed by many different government agencies including CIA, Homeland Security, the Navy and a few others. Finally, after a long day, he walked back to the barracks and fell asleep. After everything that happened, the remaining surviving SEALs (Clint and Dirty) had been given honorable discharges and Dirty was given a Silver Star. Clint had been given a Navy Cross, and only Finn would be getting the Medal of Honor. He immediately drifted off into a dreamless sleep. The next thing he knew, he was being shook away.

"Finn!"

"Get up!"

"FINN!"

"Finn Get ur ass out of bed or I swear to god…"

Finn slowly opened his eyes to see Dirty and Clint standing over him. He was dragged out of bed and into a huge embrace by both men. He rubbed his eyes.

"Not that I'm not happy to see you both. Trust me, I am. But I haven't slept in 3 months and I'm exhausted."

Finn walked back to his bed and was about to fall asleep again when a loud bullhorn blared. Finn groaned and reluctantly got out of bed again.

"I'm so glad you guys made it! Is Ben OK?"

"He's a lot better. Your death made him really depressed for 3 months, but he seems so happy that you're okay."

Finn nodded and smiled at them. They walked into town to go and eat breakfast. They went to a 24 hour diner and Finn ordered half the menu. He started pigging out as soon as his food came.

"Jesus, Finn. You seem hungry. What, did they not feed you or something?"

Finn glared at him. "Right, forgot where you were for a second. About that, what exactly happened." Finn took a deep breath and a large sip from his milkshake. "Well they captured me, and while I was out, they fixed my arm and I got better. Then, when I woke up and I wouldn't answer their questions, they would torture me. They didn't even get past the what's your name question."

The two other SEALs nodded.

"What did you tell them?"

"I said my name was Hugh Jorgasm. They didn't appreciate it."

They laughed. "Nice one."

"You don't know how good it felt. But I really paid for it though."

"I can imagine," Dirty said. "Look Finn, we both can't thank you enough for what you did. Neither of us, nor Ben, would be alive if it weren't for you."

Finn didn't say anything. "Did John get a proper memorial?"

"Yeah. It was beautiful. I'm really going to miss him. He was a great guy."

"Yeah he was," Finn sighed. "What about Jack, what happened to him. Was he dishonorably discharged?"

"Yeah he was. I've never seen Captain so mad. Ben did everyone a favour by killing him then, I'm sure Captain would have done so had he made it back."

"How was Ben about that, by the way. He was kind of in shock when it happened and everything else went by so quickly."

"He's OK. He's in therapy and it's really helping him. I think he was more guilty about you dying than anything else. But he seemed to be OK when I talked to him last night," Clint said. "His parents moved back to the States and his dad now works for the CIA."

"That's probably a good idea, moving back."

"OK, I have one more question, how did you escape?"

"Well, every night, Asif would give me a glass of wine. His way of trying to make me turn to his side I think. I poured it on my arm to make it look like blood on my shirt. A doctor ran in. I killed him and took his pistol. I then killed the guards and took one of their machine guns. I escaped the mansion before an alarm was raised. I made it to a chopper and managed to take off, but the men sprayed bullets all over it. It was a miracle I didn't get hit. After around 10 minutes, the engine sounded funny so I put on a parachute and jumped out. It blew up shortly after. I landed in Nepal, in Kathmandu. I had no money, no food, nothing. I stole a map from a stall in Kathmandu and found a private runway. I stowed in the wheel compartment of a plane and was in there for almost 10 hours. When it finally opened for landing, I jumped out and pulled my chute again. It turned out I had made it to Calgary. Police arrested me for running around Calgary with a gun, and then, one hour later, BANG! First Class ticket to Virginia."

The guys looked amazed. "That's incredible, Finn."

"It really wasn't. And I did a lot of not incredible things too. I had a lot of time to think, and, including the escape, I killed 289 people. That's way too many. I became a monster."

"Finn, you're not a monster. You're a hero!"

"Thanks, man. It means a lot."

They finished eating and Finn paid the tab. All three of them, as well as Captain Brady, were flying into Washington DC in a few hours. The Medal of Honor ceremony was in the White House, and he was meeting his family there later that day. They made the flight in an hour and a half and his family were landing in Washington D.C in an hour. He was greeted in the White House by President Obama again. He met with various high level officials and finally, after what seemed like an eternity of waiting, his parents, Kurt and Quinn were ushered into the White House. They looked around frantically for Finn, but couldn't find him anywhere. Suddenly, Finn walked behind them, and put his arms around Kurt and Quinn.

"Hey guys, how's it going?"

They screamed and Quinn gave him a crushing hug. Finn stumbled back.

"Quinn, it's great to see you but please be careful. I'm about as strong as a thin piece of glass right."

She jumped back and then cautiously approached him.

"I'm so sorry."

"Don't worry. I'm fine."

"I thought you were…"

"Hey, I'm not. I'm here now and that's all that matters."

She nodded and cried into his shirt for a while. When she finally let go, he gave his family hugs. The last people to arrive were Ben and his family.

"Ben! Mate, how are you?"

"I'm good. And alive. Thanks to you."

"Glad to hear you're good, man." he said, giving Ben a hug.

3 hours later, Finn had received his medal of honor and honorable discharge, and was currently mingling with various high-level generals, as well as the President, Vice President and their families. By the end of the night, Finn had heard so many "thank you for your services" that he was getting tired of it. He didn't appreciate being thanked for killing 289 people in cold blood. The next morning, Finn flew with his family to Lima. He was going to spend a little bit of time there seeing all of his friends again. They still had a month left of summer break so a lot of them were in Lima. When they stepped off the plane, Finn walked towards baggage control, and Kurt turned towards Quinn.

"You have to tell him!" Kurt whispered firmly.

"Why? Why do I have to?"

"He deserves to know. And if you don't come clean, I will."

"Ok, I'll tell him tonight." Quinn sighed, defeatedly. Just then, Finn came back with 2 suitcases on a duffel. He still had no stuff: shortly before he was captured, he threw his phone and walkie-talkie off the side of the bridge to keep them out of enemy hands. He had received his passport in Dam Neck, and was given a new phone by the Navy. He had the receipt from Best Buy so he planned to exchange it for a different one. The only clothes he had were the fatigues he was wearing, so Kurt agreed to take him clothes shopping when they arrived. They had a party with the Glee kids on the night they arrived in Quinn's basement. Everyone was there and were overjoyed to see that Finn wasn't dead. He was crushed by the 20 people hugging. Puck walked up to him and punched his arm affectionately. Finn winced. Puck noticed.

"Seriously? You survive a suicide mission but that hurts you?" he asked, astonished.

"Yeah it does." Finn muttered to him. "I got sniped in that fucking arm. And for three months, I was tortured by 300 pound men standing on that arm."

"Jesus, I'm so sorry, Finn. I didn't know."

"It's cool, man. I'm just happy I'm alive."

"Yeah, it was really bad when we thought you had… you know."

"What? When I died?" Finn declared. "Why is everyone afraid to say it? Trust me, a couple weeks ago, I wished I was dead."

Puck nodded. "I can't imagine what you've been through, but I'm glad you're back."

"I'm so happy to be back. There were many times on the mission I could have easily died but I managed to make it through."

They both finished their beers and threw the bottles away. Finn usually never drank, but he needed something to take the edge off. Besides, one beer didn't really do anything. At the end of the night, everyone started to leave. Finn got up to leave with Kurt, but Quinn held him back.

"I need to talk to you," she said. Finn nodded and stayed behind. They walked up from the basement to Quinn's room, which was on the second floor.

"Is everything OK?" Finn asked, as they both sat on her bed.

"I need to tell you something, and I want you to listen to me and not say anything until I finish."

"Quinn, what happened?" Finn asked, somewhat suspiciously.

"It was just under a month since you had been declared missing," she started. "It had been by far the worst month of my life. I was really drunk one night, and I woke up in one of the guy's dorms. I'm so sorry."

Finn's face turned icy cold. "Seriously, Quinn? Again? You know, I got shot, blown up, stabbed, tortured. I was forced to kill 289 people. But that, that really hurt. There were so many opportunities on my mission for me to just let go and die. Or better yet, just put a bullet in my head. It would have been a lot less painful than the past three months in enemy custody. But I refused to do that, because I thought I had people back home who cared about me. We're done."

Finn turned towards the door and started to walk out when Quinn grabbed his arm. "Please, Finn. Don't leave! I'll do anything!"

He slowly turned around. "Just do one thing, please. Stay the hell away from me." Finn walked out the door and into his car. Quinn collapsed on her bed, sobbing into her pillow. She knew that she had really messed up this time, and he probably wasn't coming back.
