Now, will Danny and Eddie stop bickering long enough to save Rachel?

I Will Find You

"Why the fuck haven't you got the TT back?" Danny said.

"Because the police wouldn't let me have it. I am bloody lucky to have the Skoda back."

"Will you two stop bickering? For God's sake. Eddie, where are you?" Sally said.

"Just coming down Rochdale Road."

"Right, head towards Crompton. Come off the A663… Milnrow Road onto Blackstores Road. It will be the B6167. I then need you to go down Grains Road, into Delph. End of that road, turn right. You then need Delph New Road. There is a sharp corner there so be careful. Just follow that road but when it splits, you need to go down the road to the left. At the end of Chapel Road, left. Stay on the A635."

"Holmfirth Road?" Danny asked.

"Yeah."

"Have they stopped at Dean Road?"

"Yeah, how do you know that?"

"Fuck. If I knew it would have been fucking quicker to go down to Oldham. You could have given the Skoda some. Fucking Skoda. They are a fucking cop car."

"Danny!" Eddie shouted.

"He has taken them where I took you when I beat you up."

"What? So Eddie could identify it and say it was you?"

"Like I could identify somewhere that I spent only five seconds actually looking around," Eddie said.

"Why didn't you look around better?" Danny asked.

"Because someone beat me up and then waved a gun in my face!"

"How far away are you?"

"We've just passed the King's arms," Eddie said.

"Grains Bar. Less than half an hour. Eddie can floor it once he hits the 40 signs on the A635." Danny said.

"Well, I am just leaving Rochdale Police Station. Finally got that signed off. You know, I am not happy with the amount of paperwork this is giving me."

"You know what? I think I am ready to go back to prison." Danny said.

"We are about 20 minutes behind you Eddie. I will obviously stop them from arresting you."

"Plenty of time to skin the bastard."

"You aren't doing anything like that. And I am getting the first hit. It is my wife and son he has." Eddie said.

"You're the boss."

"I can't wait not to be."

Eddie didn't care whether he was meant to be quiet or not. The car came to a sudden stop as they reached the end of the track and he just about remembered to turn off the engine as they both jumped out of the car.

The yard had three different outbuildings but Danny was more than certain that if Adam was here (which Eddie hoped that they weren't on some wild good chase), he would have chosen this certain building because, when he rented the others, the owner was doing it up to be offices. There were places where they could hide.

If anything, Eddie didn't have the mental capacity to argue with Danny, following him and then heading off in the opposite direction to what Danny did.

All that mattered was finding Rachel and the sense of dread filled Eddie as he wondered how far Adam was prepared to go. Which wasn't helped when he heard Rachel screaming Adam's name.

Rachel had only left the bedsit if Michael was coming with them. Which Rachel was still wondering why she asked him of that. Because the last thing she wanted was Michael to get hurt but there was no denying that there were quite a few people around her that wanted to keep her safe.

She had told Michael to leave it but as Adam's temper started to rise, she was glad of Michael's intervention, if not just so that her step-son didn't see more of his step-mum than he should do. But that didn't mean that she wanted Adam to attack him instead of her.

"Adam! Please, Adam! Stop it!" She cried.

She was on the floor, not too far from where Adam had Michael on the floor, giving him another punch to the face before holding onto his neck. Rachel had tried to intervene but ended up with an elbow to her stomach from Adam, which had winded her. Michael hadn't stilled but he had stopped fighting when Adam did stop and turned his attention back to her.

She did wonder what was going to happen next but she never imagined someone running into the room and tackling Adam, taking him away from them, leaving Rachel to make her way to Michael to make sure he was okay.

He was still conscious but was dazed as she slowly managed to sit him up. Michael blinked a few times before he looked up at her before he shook his head.

"Are you okay?" She asked.

"I will be."

She pulled him towards her and he wrapped his arms around her. It was when she realised the person that had ran in, being the last person she ever expected.

"Oh for fucks sake. Fucking behave." Danny said as he managed to get the upper hand on Adam. "Are you going to fucking behave now? Because I could do some real fucking damage if I wanted to. I am ready to go down for your assault as well."

Danny being there had shocked her and she was sure that she would have ended up thinking of something to say to him when he looked up at her. But it was the smile on his face and how he turned his attention to someone else that made her look over her shoulder.

"There you fucking are. Come on. I haven't got all day." Danny said.

Eddie's presence should have given her more comfort. She knew that she should be overjoyed by the fact that she was finally reunited with her husband. She knew that she should have taken the look of worry as him, being worried about what had happened to her as she had been away from him or at what had happened to Michael.

But his gaze held so many questions that she didn't want to answer. She already knew that Eddie was going to tell Danny that he could have Adam and she wished that she didn't tense up as he walked over to her and scooped her and Michael into his arms. She wished that being back in Eddie's arms was more reassuring than it actually was.

Rachel held onto the edge of the makeshift bed as she waited for the police doctor to come in and examine her to make sure that she was okay. Which is who she expected that the timid knock on the door was from until Sally entered.

"How are you?" She asked.

"Could be better. But I could be a lot worse as well."

"Kiera and Jacob have been as good as gold."

"I wouldn't expect any different from them."

Sally took the few steps from the door to her, taking her hands in hers.

"Rachel… they thought it might be best if… if I was the one to ask you this question. And I am going to word it as professionally as possible." Sally paused. "The charges against Adam. What… What are we charging him for?"

"Kidnapping. False imprisonment." Rachel could feel her lips tremble. "I… I suppose the professional term is… Would you charge him with… rape?"

Sally's eyes closed briefly. Maybe they all hoped that she had got away with just kidnapping and false imprisonment.

"Rach… I'll let the." She stopped. "I'll let the police doctor know."

"How's Michael?"

"The stupid boy. He'll be okay. He will be coming back with us tonight. Jane is basically going to make sure he is alright. He wasn't meant to get involved like that."

"I couldn't bear… leaving him in that bedsit. I hoped." Rachel paused. "I hoped it would stop Adam from doing something stupid. Again."

"I'll look into the support that I can get you here. And I am sure Kim can get you something."

"Sally. All I've wanted for the last… four, five weeks is to be reunited with Eddie. All I've wanted is the comfort that he gives me. But I can't take it."

"He will understand."

"I can't tell him." She whispered.

"He will understand," Sally repeated, as she placed a hand on Rachel's cheek.

The knock on the door and the police doctor coming in wasn't what Rachel wanted at that moment. But Sally gave her a smile before she walked over to the police doctor as whispered what Rachel had just told her. She didn't need the doctor to tell her that it was going to be intrusive. It wasn't like she hadn't been the subject to one of these examinations before.

Coming face to face with Eddie again wasn't as bad as seeing him in the outbuilding. She could see the love and worry that he had for her. But, as much as she wanted to, she wasn't prepared to fall back into his arms just yet.

"We are going back to Jane and Sally's. Michael is just getting the final nod that he is okay." Eddie said. "Jane has quickly gone to ours to get some of your things."

"I could do with a bath."

"I'll run you one while you are reunited with the kids."

She nodded at him but her vision was pulled away from him when she noticed Danny being led past the door. She looked up at Eddie before she went after him, calling Danny's name until they stopped, with the police officer taking a step back to give them a bit of space.

"Thank you." She said.

"For what?"

"Going to find me. It might have been that which has saved me."

"Yeah, well, I don't think you are ever going to see me again."

"Danny." She paused. "I meant what I said. I do still love you as my cousin. I just remember the little boy that tried to be the protective older cousin to me and Melissa. The boy that ran all the way to get help because I had fallen out of a tree."

"And Rachel, I wish I was him."

"Maybe it is something you can work on."

"What makes you think I can?"

"I don't think… You wouldn't have put up with Eddie for that long unless you wanted to prove something. Maybe more to yourself. I think you need to go away and think about it. Maybe think about what you could do when you are released."

"If I am ever released. I am adding quite the list to what I have already gone down for."

"You were always going to be a better man than Uncle Keith. Prove it to yourself."

"Still trying to save me?" Danny said with a smile.

"Always."

With Danny's hands in handcuffs, she knew that she was safe. But she knew that Eddie would question her later as to why she could place a kiss on Danny's cheek but not take the comfort that he was willing to give her. She would just have to find the nicest way to tell him.
