The sunlight work me form a hard sleep. As I just groaned and turned over covering my head in my safe cocoon. I didn't want to get up because deep down I knew I wasn't home, no safety no comforted no anything just being bait for bad guys having my hart rip out and almost dyeing over and over again. I didn't want to Sophia nor did I want to be Kat. I want to stay in my cocoon and maybe I could turn into a butterfly.
"Yeah right like that could happen." A knock drove me from my thoughts.
"Go AWAY!" I mumbled plopping back into bed. I hope people would just leave me alone.
"Well Kat you can't act like a baby. And you can't stay in this room forever, and you can't take it out on other people no matter how much you want to . and beside you said you would do this and there no turning back . and then when this is all done you can go home." The word home got me to get out of bed and washed my face in the wash been in my room I avoided the mirror because I knew from crying most of the night that my face was red and I still felt like shit.
Another quick knock at my door and two people entered.
"Who Sophia you look terrible." I sighed Luke confirmed my suspicion.
"Well Luke you look like shit yourself." I counter I was snippy today
"Calm down you two , Sophia. We wanted to tell you your father left this morning and will be back letter." Allen stated. I nodded and they both left I shut the door behind them. I got dressed and was slowly making my way down the stairs. But the smell of smock shot me awake in a hart bet. I races down the stars to see Luke with a fire in a pan and him panicking. I ran over to him and moved the pan covered it with a lid and sent Luke out of water. I race to the window and open it to get fresh air in. as Allen race in with Luke with water. I downers a towel and moved the lied the fire was gone but that still worried me I clean the pan with the water to find a hot cake burned. I Look at Luke.
"Trying to burn my house down, or your first time cooking?" I asked him. He shot me a sheepish look.
"First time cooking." I heard him mumble. Allen looked at him and shook his head.
"Well buddy not one of your many talents." Luke shot up and smiled.
"You got that right." And I rolled my eyes and went to work on the hot cakes. I tried the batter Luke had and I chock and coughed and about through up.
"Luke no more cooking for you." I wheezed out.
"That bad?" he asked. I hand him the bowl of batter he stuck his hand in the batter and about had the same routine as mine.
"Yep that bad." He coughed. I almost smile a full smile but I was still down. I returned to the kitchen to make fresh batter and some food that won't kill us.
The day went by without and incident the boys cut wood, and particles the solder skills. As I cleaned up around the house and watched them through the window. I started to keep a dairy so I wouldn't forget anything that happened and I could let me feeling down somehow. I knew I had to make dinner as I got up from my spot. I cold air greeted me form the window I closed it. And walk to the kitchen. I knew it was almost winter here. And it was sure to get cold.
Cooking this way was long as the two boys made a fire in the sitting room to warm up from outside but the smell of food made the come to me.
"Smells good." Allen smiled. I nodded
"Yep almost done you two go wash up." I stated Hitting Luke hand with a spoon as he reached for a piece of bread.
"Owha alright alright." He mumbled walking away. Allen chuckled at his friend's I looked misfortune at him.
"Don't worry I'm going. And it good to see you finally smile for real today," he stated and left.
Great Allen caught on or I was being sloppy today. A few seconds after they left my father aka Valek came in.
"Sophia you cooking smells amazing" he smiled I smiled back
"Yep now go wash up it about done." I told him he nodded as I turn my back. But quickly turned back and hit him with the spoon on his hand. He looked at me like he couldn't believe I just did that.
"now you may be my father but you have to wash up first." I glared at him, He smirk.
"You gotten faster." Not the time to be impressed.
"No I just know men act around food. Now go." He left quickly to wash up.
We ate dinner in silent. The boys said they would clean up the dish when we were done. I smiled and glad I didn't have to do them. Valek said he had some paper work to do. I wanted to write by the fire. As I sat down I began to write something chilled me and knock me out of my write I look up and turned to see the window was open.
"Didn't I close it?" I sighed and thought that the boys might of open it when they were in here starting the fire. I got up and left my book where it was. When I got to the window snow slowly fell in a mesmerized way. From some reason the air was warm. How odd. But I couldn't think of a reason how that was possible something tug at the back of my mind. But I didn't care at the moment I was just happy to be watching the snow fall.
"Sophia get away from the window now!" A hard voice broke me away from the mesmerized snow. A cold air greeted me giving me chills and the slowly fallen snow turned in to a blizzard. I gasped and closed it quickly. A hand on my shoulder made me jump. I turn to Valek.
"I'm alright." But I wasn't sure what was that feeling just know. How could that have happen.
"Fine but stay away from the window at night do you understand." I nodded and went back to the fire to heat up I was frozen. I notice Valek stared at the window.
"I thought this was closed." He looked at it, the question struck me as I thought the same thing
"I closed it before I made dinner, I assume one of you open it."I answered him
" Sophia never assume. Do you understand." I nodded. My body felt numb for some odd reasons.
"Sophia!" he growled. I turned to him but it like the cold sunk in to my body. I turned back to the fire to get warm. He come and put his hand on my shoulders.
I head Luke and Allen comes into the room asking if everything was alright.
"Yes everything fine there a storm coming go make sure all the window are locked tight." Then I heard them leave but I didn't care.
I heard Valek voice again
"Kat" he growled but I didn't flinch he turned me to face him away from the fire. Couldn't he tell I was cold? "Kat you will listen now. You must snap out of this, or the cold you feel will consume you that what they want. Kat I order you to run drills in your head the one
Kyle taught you." And odd requested but I listen anyway, doing what he instructed as I did my body started to heat up and my numbness faded. As I started to realized what was happening I began to regain my thoughts, and saw Valek staring at me hard, I shrugged my shoulder to make his hand move because it hurt. But it didn't slide off
"Alright I got it, you win it hurts." I told him he smiled and then let go.
"good to have you back."
"What happen?" I asked I knew what happen but not why
"I really don't know, but I do know you got influence by magic." He looked back at the window.
I didn't want to say anything, that night was a long one I didn't get much sleep I was too worried. About what had happened, But I had a feeling something going to happen.
KYLE POV
I knew I shouldn't of left her. But those other two guys came in. I know dad was mad at me for coming and knowing agree with him I made thing worst. Now the girl I love is mad at me. "Damit! What in the world am I going to do now."
"Hey Kyle snap out of it." I was able to block just in time before Janco hit me in the head.
"What!" I hissed I don't have time for this.
"Easy Kyle, as soon as we figure this out you can make up with Kat." Janco looked at me more amused.
I sighed and went back to the stack of paperwork we were looking through files in my dad offices trying to find the right one. I may be my father son but I still haven't figured out how he organizes this mess or if there even is an organized method
The word in front of me didn't make sent. I was getting frustrated. My mind kept going back to that night.
"Alright Kyle if we're going to get any work done tell us what up?" I wasn't expending Ari to get involved.
"Nothing" I tuned back to the page in my hand but I felt their eyes on me.
"Kyle what did you do, what happen between you and Kat?" Ari asked.
"I didn't do anything?" I snap I throw the papers down "I'm going for a run." I stood to leave.
"Then if you didn't do anything then you shouldn't be upset." Janco pointed out. I stopped.
"I didn't do anything." But I wasn't so sure that time, as the scene played through my mind.
"Kyle was it something you said." Ari voice shot me awake.
"I told her she should stop, this wasn't her world, and that she doesn't belong here." I told them they looked at me. I froze I just figured it out saying it out loud made it clear. I messed up big time.
"Kyle you are and idiot." Janco hissed throwing the paper at back at me. I sat back down I didn't know what to do. I had to tell her I was sorry. I about bolted for the door. Ari stop me.
"Kyle what done is done there no turning back now. We need to get this job done and figure out now." Ari tone was not to be messed with. But he didn't order me. Being one of my dad seconds if the order I had to obey unless dad says otherwise. But sent he didn't I didn't move.
"Going back isn't going to help it would make matter worst and blow her cover causing her more trouble. So back to work now Kyle that an order." Janco tone was serious I looked at him and bowed my head I was in turmoil I got order. I slow moved back to my seat and began going through the papers looking for anything. Not saying a word or even looking up. I was able to concentrate but not without a voice in my head that said.
"You lost her." But I couldn't give up just yet.
I need to sleep for a few hours but I just couldn't I was in my father room trying to find more information. But I stop when I came to his carving room. I open it to see rock, statutes in many different stages were litter throughout the room. I couldn't help but pick up a rock that hadn't been formed into anything yet. The cold rock was heated with my touch, the memories of this room flooded in to me. I remember when I was young, my father taught me how to carve I wasn't as good as him at that age but I did get better. He would tell me how to grind and heat the rock and cut it swiftly to the shape I wanted. I remember when I saw mom butterfly around her neck and was amazed at how good it was. He told me he made it for her by think about her and how it came to form a butterfly. That something so beautifully could be so strong and deadly. At that time I didn't understand how could my mother be deadly. But I understand now. Nothing is what it seem,
Kat was like that, she was annoying got on my nerves but I feel for her, she constantly getting into danger and putting herself in place she shouldn't have to be in. when she was leaning to fight she wasn't very skilled but she was graceful with ever steep. And even though she didn't want to learn she knew she had to so she was determent, she was strong, but could be vulnerable most people in these situations would be horrified and scared. I knew she was but she stayed calm. And work for an end. She had many different side to her with many different colors, but she still the same a hard working women, that seem fragile but when it come to it she could do anything she wants.
I didn't know how long I was in though thinking about Kat and what we went through together. Until I looked down to the rock I still held in my hand well it wasn't a rock anymore it was a beautifully butterfly a little different form mom but still as lovely as ever. I but the tools down. Now I knew what to do I should wait and see what happen and see if Kat can actually fly. I knew she would be okay.
I found something that was interesting last night or was it early this morning. Anyway I was walking back to the office to show Ari and Janco. I gave them the information and they smiled
"That sure helps" Janco smiled. It wasn't impotent at the time went it was recorded in the longs of dad special forces but it was a big clue. One of the adviser form the gathering was a close buddy with the other two victims. As we were discussing on what to do A knock came to the door.
"Come in." Ari ordered
A messenger came in quickly.
"Sir I have a messaged for you." He stated handing out a piece of paper. Janco was the closest to him and grab it. He looked at it quickly.
"Thank you your dismiss." And the messenger left. He turned to Ari and handed him the same slip. He read it just as fast.
"Seem like you are going on a trip Janco." Then man nodded and left. But no one told me what the messaged was.
"What does it say?" I asked Ari that was still in the room
"Your father want Janco to come for a bit. Were told to stay put." He looked at me to make sure I got the messaged. I nodded and understood. We went back to work, I fingered the pendent I made last night for Kat everything will be alright I told myself and continued to read the paperwork in front of me.
