Chapter 24th
Admiral Harriman Nelson was livid turning to face Executive Officer Stu Riley behind him and the missile control panel. "Mr. Riley how dare you make that decision to use a missile to destroy something that you had no idea as to what it was that had dropped the explosive?"
"Sir it was some type of aircraft that radar and sonar was able to make out. As for why it dropped five hundred feet instead of closer is beyond me?" Executive officer Riley will say with moving over to radar.
He spoke to the radar man asking on whether the aircraft is still around. "No sir. It moved quickly to head for where the Exeter is located for the exercises." He will have said with the ear phones still over the ears to notice something else on the radar screen. "SIR!I have a bogey at 2000 feet looking like a submarine in our waters."
Admiral Nelson asked Sparks to contact the submarine and with asking their intentions. "I need to know why they are in these waters.
"Aye Admiral." As Sparks went to work to try and contact the submarine.
Meanwhile Nelson upgraded the general quarters to red alert. " Have all departments be at readiness Mr. Riley and have the missile room ready to fire off four at my command. Has the shore party come back from the island?" He asked in rapid fire with the orders.
"Yes sir as of 15 minutes ago. They were taking the prisoners to the brig once this crisis is over and you're able to questioned them Admiral." Riley will announced when Sparks will say the following.
"Admiral Nelson I am not getting any response from them. So I am assuming they are hostile?" He cried out loud for him to hear and the missile requesting further orders.
"I just don't like this at all." Rubbing his chin with turning to see Riley waiting for his next move. "Sparks please try again before I decide with the next move.
Meanwhile the radar man cried out. "SIR MISSILE COMING OUR WAY HEADING FOR THE NOSE."
Admiral Nelson had his answer with Sparks trying again. "Missile room fire all four at 023 true NOW! EVERYONE BRACE FOR EXPLOSION..." He held onto the side near the radio shack as Kowalski, Patterson and Sharkey having no time to change heard the warning and held on themselves.
When all of a sudden the enemy submarine blew and the force of the explosion knock everyone to the floor. Throughout the entire submarine there were a number of injuries and equipment being damaged as with three bulkheads needing to be repaired once the damage was access.
