Short chapter while Alexander is away

Eliza sat down with Christopher at the piano as he played a children's nursery rhyme on it.

"Your piano is coming along fantastically", Eliza encouraged him. He grinned as he played it again. He still only knew four or five rhymes.

"That's enough piano. I want you to practice writing now", she left him with paper and a quill. "Write your mom a letter". Christopher dipped the quill in the ink as she left.

Eliza sat in the parlour, reading a book while she waited on Philip to wake up from his nap. She missed being able to chat with Alexander.

"Momma", Philip squealed as he ran into her, Adalyia not far behind. She sighed with relief when she saw that he was not causing trouble.

"We're okay", Eliza reassured her. "Hello my sweet boy, did you wake up from your nap?" She picked him up. Philip played with a loose strand of her hair.

"Daddy gone?" He asked her. Eliza nodded.

"Yeah daddy's gone away for a few days", she pouted at him. He giggled at her. Eliza lifted him up.

"Your daddy is a very important lawyer and will do great things and so will you. Someday you'll run New York. Yes you will, yes you will", she tickled him. Philip squeezed out of her arms and flicked through her book.

"Orey?" He asked her.

Eliza smiled at her son.

"You want a story?" She asked him. He nodded.

"Orey!" He bounced up and down before sitting down to listen.

"Once upon a time, there was a dragon that ruled over the land. It kept everyone in check. People were always stealing, begging and even sometimes hurting others because the dragon didn't rule fairly.

It kept some people rich and some people poor with no way of escape. Of course the rich people didn't notice at first, the poor people were too hungry to not notice.

They started a rebellion. They came together to defeat the dragon. They had to be careful though, for one wrong turn and bam!

They would be lit on fire by the dragon. They almost didn't make it. Soon more and more people were helping to defeat the dragon, rich and poor, black or white.

But it wasn't enough! They needed help from far away lands in Europe. France helped them defeat the dragon. On the night that it happened the rebels went out and fought the dragon on the sea. That way if it fell, it sunk deep, deep into the ocean. Never to be seen again. It nearly killed all the people but they did it. They defeated the dragon! The land was safe and the people came together to build a new nation, just like America." Eliza told her son the story of the revolution. He clapped at the end.

"Yay we won!" She clapped with him.

Eliza found herself at Alexander's office door. He spent most days working there. She opened it, opening the window to let in some fresh air. She tidied up his papers, smiling at how clean his office looked. It wouldn't stay like that. Once he is in there it looks like a hurricane hit it.

She headed down to the kitchen.

"Bed time." She took Philip up to bed.

"Daddy gone?" He asked her as he pointed to his office. He asked her that question everyday for the past 2 weeks. Alexander said he'd be home around now but it's hard to tell which day he would actually get home at. Eliza sighed.

"Daddy's at work, he'll be back soon", she kissed his cheek. Philip cried as he pulled away. He ran to Alexander's office. He reached for the door handle.

"Daddy?" He called to him. She opened the door to show Philip that Alexander wasn't there.

"Do you miss daddy?" She hugged him and ran her hand through his long hair. He cried while hugging his mommy.

"Come on, it's bedtime", she brought him into her bed. He smiled as he laid down in the middle of the bed. Philip cuddled into Eliza as soon as she laid down. He fell asleep in her arms. She closed her eyes, enjoying this moment.

Eliza moaned as a hand ran through her hair.

"Alexander?" She asked. He kissed her hair.

"I missed you", he whispered to her, careful not to wake up Philip.

"Did you mean to fall asleep?" He whispered. She frowned, what did he mean? Eliza slipped her hand away from Philip. She sat up, only then realising she was still dressed.

"Oh, yeah I must have", she yawned. He kissed her hand, causing her to smile wider. Eliza stood up, kissing him.

"Come downstairs", he led her down to the parlour where James served them dinner. Eliza thanked him.

"How did the trail go?" She asked him. He shook his head.

"Burr annoys me so much. He got it postponed. I wish not to bring my anger for politics home. I am afraid however that I will have to retire from Congress. I will wait until the British leave America. There is so much corruption in it", he ranted to her. She took his hand.

"Philip and I will support you, no matter what you choose to do", she smiled at him. He nodded, his love for her shining through them.

"I'll work as a lawyer", he decided.

"Philip missed you", she told him. He smiled as he glanced upstairs.

"Every night he had to check your office to see if you were there before he went to bed", she recounted what happened earlier.

"I missed him too, the Goodnight kisses and morning cuddles", he put their plates in the kitchen before sitting back down, closer to her this time.

"He's obsessed with you", Eliza laughed. Alexander smirked.

"I'm amazing, who could blame him?" He commented. Eliza playfully slapped his chest.

"You and your ego" she laughed. She leant into him, placing her head on his shoulder.

"I missed you too", she breathed in the smell of coffee and ink from him. He lifted up her chin, kissing her. Eliza moaned, her hands going to his chest.

"You better move Philip if you keep doing that", she moaned again as he kissed her neck. He pulled away, running upstairs to move Philip into his bed. Eliza followed after him, laughing at his eagerness.

"Daddy", Philip smiled as he cuddled into Alexander. He fell back asleep in his arms immediately. Eliza felt her heart explode with love for her boys.
