Momo almost cheered when she saw that All Might had arrived. As long as he was here, they were safe! He'd save them all and then-

"Crack!"

The blood drained from Momo's face. That was Izuku... her friend. She felt like vomiting. She could hear Mashirao quietly retch to her side, but she couldn't take her eyes away from the scene in front of her.

All Might wasn't smiling anymore.

Before she could even blink, All Might was right in front of the beast that had killed Izuku, his fist planted firmly into its chest. It didn't even budge as the hand villain laughed about how it's power absorbed impacts or something, Momo couldn't hear him well over the ringing in her ears.

All Might must have been listening, however, since he took a different approach; he snapped its neck from behind, pulling on its head as more sickening cracks echoed through the building.

All Might was done playing nice, not with this creature. If his punches wouldn't work, he'd just tear the thing's head off and be done with it. The hand villain seemed shocked at this level of violence, but quickly started spouting some BS about senseless violence from heroes. As if murdering a child wasn't the definition of 'senseless violence.'

All Might dashed forward, throwing another punch towards the leader of the villains. The man flew back, caught by a portal created by the one made of smoke, before he too, disappeared. All Might then sprinted through the building, knocking out every villain left standing and bringing the rest of his students to the entrance before returning to where Midoriya lay motionless.

He could have prevented this. If he hadn't wasted his time as a hero on those small-time criminals that morning... he would have been here to protect them. He couldn't change the past now, so he did what he could. He started gathering the pieces. The boy's parents deserved to have all of their son back, if at all possible.

After a few moments, or maybe minutes, he couldn't tell, one of his students came over and started helping him. And then another. One produced a bag to carry the pieces in. They both helped where they could, but there weren't too many shards to begin with. All Might picked up one piece to see Izuku's eye staring up at him, and his heart broke again.

When the rest of the heroes arrived, they found the students walking out with All Might, mostly unharmed, although the two other teachers present were on stretchers. And All Might... cradled a headless child's body in his arms, his face like a stone mask.

"Someone give me his parents' phone number." All Might's voice rasped out, sounding defeated. The principal dialed and handed him the phone, they all knew who's parents he meant.

"Hello?"

"Hello, is this Mrs. Midoriya?" All Might asked, trying his best to sound a bit less broken, for her sake.

"Yes, this is she, and is that... All Might? Did something happen at school?"

"Yes, it's... your son." At this she seemed much more panicked. "He... there was a villain attack. I wasn't fast enough to save him."

"W-what happened to him?" All Might knew he shouldn't lie here, she'd find out soon anyways.

"When I arrived, his chest had a large hole in it and then... his head was crushed by a villain."

"There wasn't any fire involved? And you have all the pieces?" All Might paused, she sounded... relieved? Realizing he should answer, he stuttered out an affirmative. "I'll be right there, I need to bring his notebooks." At that the call abruptly ended, leaving All Might more confused than ever. She must have been in shock, since... her son was dead, so why did she act like he was fine?

Not ten minutes later she arrived, breathless and clutching two notebooks like a lifeline. She only had four words to say.

"We can save him."

She flipped through the pages for a moment before settling on one.

"Momo, can you help?"
