In another universe Aoi Zaizen is the main focus. Aoi is trying to move on from a difficult past while having to deal with everyday issues. Duels take place within LINK VRAINS which hides many secrets including links to Aoi's past. Despite this, Aoi wishes to keep away from the network. Two paths will collide which begun in the past. 33. Chapter 33

"Let's begin, Soulburner!" Baira shouted.

"Very well, I've never dueled on a boat before!" Soulburner replied as his duel disk activated.

"We must do our part alongside Jin and Blood Sheppard." Flame said.

"Let's see, shall we? I remember watching you during the Lost Incident, you didn't seem all that impressive to me!"

"Well ten years is a long time…. and today is when I reclaim what you took!" Soulburner hit back.

Turn 1

Baira LP: 4000 Hand: 5

Soulburner LP: 4000 Hand: 5

"We'll see… I'll go first!" Baira said. "I summon Vampire Familiar!" A black bat with one red eye emerged.

Vampire Familiar ATK: 500 DEF: 0 Dark/Zombie/LVL 1

"I play my Continuous Spell! Vampire Domain! I pay 500 lifepoints to Normal Summon again!"

Baira LP: 4000 – 3500

"I tribute Familiar to Tribute Summon Vampire Duke!" Familiar faded away as a tall male in a suit with a long black cape appeared.

Vampire Duke ATK: 2000 DEF: 0 Dark/Zombie/LVL 5

"When Duke is Normal Summoned I Special Summon a Dark Vampire Monster from my graveyard. Return Familiar in defence!"

Vampire Familiar ATK: 500 DEF: 0 Dark/Zombie/LVL 1

"Familiar's effect! When Special Summoned, by paying 500 lifepoints, I can a Vampire Monster to my hand! I add Vampire Fraulein!"

Baira LP: 3500 - 3000

"I have never heard of a vampire. Soulburner, what is a vampire?" Flame asked as he turned around to see Soulburner shivering his lip.

"A….. scary….. creature…."

"You're scared? They don't seem scary to me?"

"I'm not….. great with horror….." Soulburner continued to stutter.

"So you're a coward as well… this'll be easy! I set one card and end my turn!" Baira interrupted.

Turn 2

Baira LP: 3000 Hand: 2

Soulburner LP: 4000 Hand: 5

"I'm no coward!" Soulburner replied as he drew. "I summon Salamangreat Foxy!" A purple robotic fox on a rock with flames coming out of it emerged.

Salamangreat Foxy ATK: 1000 DEF: 1200 Fire/Cyberse/LVL 3

"Foxy allows me to look at the top three cards of my deck and if one is a Salamangreat card, I can add it to my hand while the rest return to my deck!" Soulburner had three cards appear before him on a screen. "I add Salamangreat Meer and when added to my hand outside my normal draw, it can be summoned!"

Salamangreat Meer ATK: 800 DEF: 600 Fire/Cyberse/LVL 2

"I use Meer to Link Summon!" Appear LINK-1 Salamangreat Balelynx!" Meet flew into the sky and hit the bottom arrow. A cybernetic lynx appeared from the circuit. It was attached to two wheels.

Salamangreat Balelynx ATK: 500 Fire/Cyberse/LINK-1/Link/Down

"Since I Link Summoned it, I can add the Field Spell Salamangreat Sanctuary to my hand! I now play my Field Spell. Next I set Balelynx and Meer into the Link Arrows!" Each one flew up in a fiery blast. "Appear Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf!"

The Monster was a blue wolf with fire raging down its back in his left Extra Monster Zone.

Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf ATK: 1800 Fire/Cyberse/LINK-2/Up, Down

"I can summon Salamangreat Mole if I Link Summoned this turn! Appear!" A four legged creature with white amour on its back with several spikes appeared under Sunlight's link in defence.

Salamangreat Mole ATK: 0 DEF: 0 Fire/Cyberse/LVL 1

"I use Sunlight's effect! When a Salamangreat is summoned underneath its link, I can add a Fire Monster back to my hand from my graveyard!"

"Then I better I use my Counter Trap, Vampire Domination!"

"A Counter Trap?!"

"When you use a Monster effect while I control a Vampire, it's negated and destroyed! And since it's a Monster, I gain lifepoints equal to its attack!"

"What?!" Soulburner replied as bats flew out of the card and engulfed his Link Monster, wiping it out.

Baira LP: 3000 – 4800

"She increased her lifepoints so soon after losing them…." Flame noted.

"It's irrelevant. I play a Spell! Fury of Fire! I summon two Salamangreats with different names from my hand and/or my graveyard! After this, for the remainder of the turn, I can only summon once from my extra deck! Return Sunlight Wolf and Balelynx!"

Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf ATK: 1800 Fire/Cyberse/LINK-2/Up, Down

Salamangreat Balelynx ATK: 500 Fire/Cyberse/LINK-1/Link/Down

"I Link Summon once more! GO!" Soulburner aimed at the sky as Sunlight Wolf split into two and Balelynx joined. "Appear LINK-3, Salamangreat Heatleo!" A blazing lion with two dragon heads for hands emerged in flames.

Salamangreat Heatleo ATK: 2300 Fire/Cyberse/LINK-3/Link/Up, Bottom Right, Bottom Left

"Heatleo allows me to send one Spell or Trap on your field back to the deck when Link Summoned, be gone Vampire Domain!" Heatleo launched into the sky and fired a fiery blast into Baira's card as it returned to her duel disk as data.

"Annoying…."

"That's not all! I equip Salmangreat Claw to Heatleo! It can't be destroyed by in battle or by card effects… and it can inflict piercing damage!"

"What?!" Baira gasped.

"Attack Familiar!" Heatleo fired the blast once again and eradicated the Vampire Monster.

"I summon Vampire Fraulein from my hand when you attack in defence!" A small female in a black gown under a black umbrella emerged.

Vampire Fraulein ATK: 600 DEF: 2000 Dark/Zombie/LVL 5

"Now what?!" Soulburner replied in annoyance.

"Fraulein allows me to pay 100 lifepoints up to a maximum of 3000, then the Monster you've attacked gains that amount during Damage Calculation! I pay 2400 on Familiar!"

Baira LP: 4800 – 2400

Familiar ATK: 2900 DEF: 2400

Heatleo fired a blast again from its hand-mouths but Familiar remained on the field due to its increased defence.

Soulburner LP: 4000 – 3900

Familiar ATK: 500 DEF: 0

"I set one card and end my turn!"

"She again used up her lifepoints to gain an advantage…. is that what a vampire is?" Flame asked.

"A vampire is…. a monster who feeds on other's blood." Soulburner stuttered.

"And you show fear because of that?"

"It's just…. scary things like…. do scare me….."

"I wonder why….?!" Baira smirked back.

"Was it…. during the Lost Incident?" Flame enquired.

"The duel simulations…. they used….."

"We used a variety of different decks on each child…. there was one child who was really scared of ghosts and other monsters… so we increased the rate at which they had to duel them…. presuming that was you!"

"Why… why would you scare me like that?!"

"Different children were tested differently to create a variety of AI to become humanity's successors. Clearly those experiences helped create the Fire Ignis! It's created on fear!"

"Fear?" Flame replied.

"Just stop talking about it!" Soulburner yelled.

Turn 3

Baira LP: 2400 Hand: 1

Soulburner LP: 3900 Hand: 2

"Fine, instead I'll show it instead! I draw!" Baira drew. "I set Familiar and Fraulein to Link Summon! Appear LINK-2, Vampire Sucker!"

Appearing in her Extra Monster Zone, a young female with pink skin in a white dress. She had white wings with spikes coming out of them.

Vampire Sucker ATK: 1600 DARK/Zombie/LINK-2/Bottom Left, Bottom Right

"I use her effect! I summon a Monster from your graveyard to your field in defence and it becomes a Zombie! Appear Salamangreat Meer!"

Salamangreat Meer ATK: 800 DEF: 600 Fire/Cyberse/LVL 2

"Now your Cyberse is much more tolerable! Vampire Sucker's second effect allows me to draw a card when a Vampire Monster is summoned from the graveyard! Now I play Zombie Necronize! This Spell lets me take control of a Monster on your field with a level as long as I have a level six or higher Zombie. Meer now works for me!"

The Cyberse Monster appeared on Baira's field.

"I use a second Spell, Vampire's Desire! I can send a Vampire from my deck to change the level of a Vampire on my field!"

"Change the level? Is she going to Xyz Summon?" Flame questioned.

"You're right there! I send Vampire Grace which is level six; I change my Duke to the same level!"

Duke LVL: 6

"But Meer is level two…. unless…?" Soulburner said.

"Yes! My Xyz Monster allows me to treat an opponent's Monster as a level six to summon it! I overlay Duke and Meer!"

Both fired into the sky as a satellite with red dots around it appeared. The two creatures flew inside as it exploded with bright yellow light.

"I Xyz Summon, rank six, Dhampir Vampire Sherdian!" It was a male in a white suit a black cape and skulls on his shoulders. It appeared in the bottom left of Vampire Sucker.

Dhampir Vampire Sherdian ATK: 2500 DEF: 1000 Dark/Zombie/Xyz/Rank 6/OU 2

"Vampire Sucker has one more effect…..!"

"What now?!"

"It allows me to Tribute Summon using a Monster on your field! And since your Equip Card stops it only from being destroyed rather than tributed, I can do just that! I sacrifice Heatleo to summon a second Duke!"

Vampire Duke ATK: 2000 DEF: 0 Dark/Zombie/LVL 5

"Duke allows me to bring back a Vampire Monster when Normal Summoned in defence. Return Vampire Fraulein!"

Vampire Fraulein ATK: 600 DEF: 2000 Dark/Zombie/LVL 5

"She's swamped her field so quickly….." Soulburner gritted his teeth.

"She has a Link, Xyz and Tribute Summoned Monster along with a Monster which can change attacks and defences; she is certainly effective with this deck." Flame noted.

"I would've thought you'd start getting scared… just like you did ten years ago!" Baira yelled. "I use Sherdian' s effect!"

Sheridan OU: 1

"I can destroy a card on your field!"

"I banish Balelynx! This stops Mole from being destroyed by card effect!" A flame shield blocked Sherdan's dark blast.

"Fine then Duke attacks!"

Duke slammed into Salamangreat Mole who was wiped out but since it was in defence, Soulburner didn't take any damage.

"Go, Sucker!" Sucker fluttered her wings and the spikes attached to them flew out.

"When I'm attacked I can summon Salamangreat Parro from my hand!"

Salamangreat Parro ATK: 2000 DEF: 1000 Fire/Cyberse/LVL 5

"When it's Special Summoned I can target a Monster in my graveyard and make this card's attack become the same as that Monster's! I choose Heatleo's 2300!"

Parro ATK: 2300

"So you can fight back! Sherdian will finish this off!" The Xyz Monster blasted a dark beam from its hands and wiped out Parro.

Soulburner LP: 3900 – 3600

"You withstood all that pressure and only lost 300 lifepoints. That's very impressive." Flame noted.

"Yes but can you overcome my Vampires? Or just keep hiding?! I end my turn!" Baira replied with a smirk. She set a card facedown.

Turn 4

Baira LP: 2400 Hand: 0

Soulburner LP: 3600 Hand: 1

"I draw!" Soulburner said as he looked at the Vampires and Baira looking on.

"You don't really believe you're a coward, right?" Flame said to his partner.

"Uh… I…."

"After what you've been through…. fact you came onto this mission… that takes massive strength." Flame noted.

"Yeah… I guess it does."

"You said I was created on fear… I think you're wrong." Flame pointed to Baira.

"I don't need to be corrected by an AI!"

"It hurts? Being proven wrong by your own creation? That proves to me that you hate having your pride hurt…. but you know what I'm going to say is true, it's why you use these bullying tactics of calling Soulburner a coward."

"Go on then, Ignis… humour me!"

"Soulburner's flame never went out… the determination to make it through the Hanoi Project…. that's courage, and that's what I inherited!"

"You're irrelevant!"

"And yet you fear me." Flame hit back which Baira just gritted her teeth.

"You tell her, Flame! Time to win this duel! I use Burning Draw! If you control more cards than I do, I target a Link Monster you control then I can draw equal to its Link Arrows! I can't summon anything other than Fire Monsters however after this!"

"Which is two!" Flame yelled as Soulburner drew both with a fiery aura around his hand.

"I use my set card! Salamangreat Circle! I add a Salamangreat to my hand! I add another Meer and when it's added to my hand outside my Draw Phase, I can summon it directly!"

Salamangreat Meer ATK: 800 DEF: 600 Fire/Cyberse/LVL 2

"I Link Summon using Meer! I summon another Salamangreat Balelynx!"

Salamangreat Balelynx ATK: 500 Fire/Cyberse/LINK-1/Link/Down

"I summon Salamangreat Red Panther!" A black panther with red stripes emerged with a fiery tail.

Salamangreat Red Panther LV 4/Cyberse/Effect/Tuner ATK/1300 DEF/1000

"Panther's effect lets me Special Summon a level four or lower Salamangreat from my deck! I choose Falco!"

Salamangreat Falco ATK: 1200 DEF: 1600 Fire/Cyberse/LVL 4

"A Tuner?!"

"Yes! I Synchro Summon with Red Panther and Falco!"

"I tune Falco with Panther!" Panther and Falco both dissolved as two rings appeared which then overlapped with each other.

4+4=8

"I Synchro Summon, Salamangreat Blaze Phoenix!" The creature wore white amour with blue spots. He had several mighty wings which were white energy. It was summoned in the Extra Monster Zone

Salamangreat Blaze Phoenix LVL 8/Synchro/Effect ATK/2800 DEF/2000

"I can destroy all cards on your field to increase Blaze's attack by 500 for each!"

"Yes I saw what you did against Spectre and it won't work! My Continuous Trap, Zombie Horde will stop it! For each Zombie Monster on my field when this card is activated I can negate a Monster effect on the field at the same time! I have no choice but to use it now and negate Blaze Phoenix!"

"Keep going, Soulburner!" Flame said in response.

"I play Salamangreat Burning Shell! I summon a Salamangreat from my hand and have to Link Summon right away! Appear Salamangreat Foxy!"

Salamangreat Foxy ATK: 1000 DEF: 1200 Fire/Cyberse/LVL 3

"I Link Summon Sunlight Wolf using Foxy and Balelynx!"

Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf ATK: 1800 Fire/Cyberse/LINK-2/Up, Down

"If I have three Fire Monsters in my graveyard, Beat Bison can appear!" A flaming bison emerged with two red eyes.

Salamangreat Beat Bison ATK: 2800 DEF: 1000 Fire/Cyberse/LVL 8

"I shuffle Link Monsters in my graveyard back to my extra deck and negate effects up the amount returned thanks to Bison! I return Heatleo and my second Balelynx to negate Zombie Horde and Fraulein!" Bison fired a flame blast from his horns as Zombie Horde turned grey.

"My cards?!"

"Phoenix can use its other effect! When it attacks, the Monster you control has its attack reduced to zero! I don't need to attack all of them! Blaze Phoenix reduces the attack of a Monster you control to zero when attacked! End this Blaze Phoenix, attack Vampire Duke!"

Phoenix flew high into the sky and shot down onto Duke

Duke ATK: 0

The bird slashed the vampire in halve and sent Baira flying across the ship.

Baira LP: 2400 – 0 Soulburner Wins

Blood Shepherd

"You found our ship…. I'm impressed…." Faust said. Blood and Faust were locked eye to eye in the control room of the boat.

"From a Hanoi that's not worth much. I understand you're hackers but so am I…. and I have not been impressed with anything you've done."

"We're on the verge of wiping out LINK VRAINS, that in itself must at least raise a smile from you?"

"I never said it that wasn't impressive…. however without LINK VRAINS, I'm out of a job…. plus…. I have a few other issues with the Knights of Hanoi which need resolving."

"Wait… what is your name?" Faust replied.

"It's Blood Shepherd. To save you the trouble of remembering, I was the one who captured Violet Dagger… and yes…. I was a child during the Lost Incident."

"Well…. fate has a really strange way of working out." Faust said. "Regardless… we're trying to erase our errors. And I guess we'll erase you as well."

"I wonder if you can?" Both duelists held out their duel disk bands as the duel begun.

Turn 1

Faust LP: 4000 Hand: 5

Blood Shepherd LP: 4000 Hand: 5

"I'll start by summoning Inzektor Hopper!" A warrior in lime and black outfit appeared with wings.

Inzektor Hopper ATK: 1700 DEF: 1400 Dark/Insect/LVL 4

"It's effect allows me to equip Giga-Mantis to Hopper! And when it does, Hopper's attack becomes 2400!" A green glow appeared around the bug.

Hopper ATK: 2400

"I set a card and end my turn."

Turn 2

Faust LP: 4000 Hand: 2

Blood Shepherd LP: 4000 Hand: 5

"Then I draw!" Blood yelled. "I summon Air Drone!" A white ball with a green ring around it flew into action.

Air Drone Level 4/Cyberse/ Effect Wind ATK/1400 DEF/1000

"Cyberse…. how did you get that deck?"

"That's not something you need to worry about. His effect allows me to summon a Drone from my hand. Appear Drone Pawn!"

Drone Pawn ATK: 600 DEF: 0 Wind/Machine/LVL 1

"If I control a Drone Monster, Scud Drone can be summoned!" A white framed missile carrier appeared.

Scud Drone ATK: 800 DEF: 1100 Wind/Machine/LVL 3

"I set Pawn and Scud in the Link Arrows! I Link Summon LINK-2, Battle Drone Sharp Shooter!" A round drone appeared with turrets on both sides.

Battle Drone Sharp Shooter Link 2/Cyberse/Effect Wind ATK/1800/Bottom Left, Bottom Right

"When Link Summoned Sharp Shooter lets me draw a card. And now I set Air Drone! I Link Summon LINK-1, Drone Kuriboh!" This Kuriboh was covered in metal and used its spinning tail to glide through the air.

Drone Kuriboh Link 1/Cyberse/Effect ATK/300/Wind/Bottom Middle

"While Drone Kuriboh is linked, the Monster pointing to it is unaffected by card effects. And while Sharp Shooter is linked with a Monster, it can attack directly!"

Sharp Shooter fired rapid shots at Faust which stung with each hit.

Faust LP: 4000 – 2200

"I use a Trap! Variable Form lets me summon my equippedGiga-Mantis!" A green warrior with long blades on each arm appeared.

Inzektor Giga-Mantis ATK: 2400 DEF: 0 Dark/Insect/LVL 6

Hopper ATK: 1700

"Then I set two cards." Blood said as he ended his turn.

Turn 3

Faust LP: 2200 Hand: 2

Blood Shepherd LP: 4000 Hand: 2

"Draw! I summon Inzektor Earwig!"

Inzektor Earwig ATK: 1000 DEF: 1000 Dark/Insect/LVL 4

"I Link Summon using Hooper and Earwig! Appear LINK-2,Inzektor Picofalena!" A purple female in black outfit with pink markings emerged. She had pink and yellow wings while holding a whip.

Inzektor Picofalena ATK: 1000 Dark/Insect/LINK-2/Bottom Left, Bottom Right

"Picofalena allows me to discard a card from my hand to equip another Inzektor from my deck onto Giga-Mantis. I discard Dragonfly to equip it with another Earwig!" A blue glow lit around Giga-Mantis. "Picofalena gives Earwig an equipped effect, it allows Giga-Mantis to gain 500 attack and Earwig's main effect when equipped gives Mantis another 1000 attack and defence!"

Giga-Mantis ATK: 3900 DEF: 1000

"I equip Giga-Mantis with Inzektor Zekspear! It increases his attack by 300 and you Monster's effects are negated during its attack! Giga-Mantis takes out your Kuriboh!"

Giga ATK: 4200

Mantis launched the spear at the Kuriboh which when struck begun to spark with static before exploding.

Blood Shepherd LP: 4000 – 100

"I use my Trap! Repair Drone allows me to target a Drone on my field and gains its attack as lifepoints! Naturally I choose Sharp Shooter!"

Blood LP: 100 – 1900

"My second Trap! Drone Scrap! I summon a Drone from my graveyard which was used to Link Summon the destroyed Monster! Return Air Drone!"

Air Drone Level 4/Cyberse/ Effect Wind ATK/1400 DEF/1000

"You make use with what you have… but so can I! I use my Link Monster's other effect! I shuffle three Insect Monsters in my graveyard back to my deck to draw another card! I end my turn…."

"You didn't get the card you wanted? Let me finish this off for you then."

Turn 4

Faust LP: 2200 Hand: 1

Blood Shepherd LP: 1900 Hand: 2

"Draw! I use Sharp Shooter and Air Drone to Link Summon! Appear LINK-3, Battledrone General!"The Monster zoomed in from the sky and appeared before Blood. It was a long black fighter jet with missiles either side of its wings.

Battledrone General ATK: 2400 Wind/Machine/LINK-3/Left, Right, Bottom

"General lets me return a Monster to its link. Reappear Drone Kuriboh!"

Drone Kuriboh Link 1/Cyberse/Effect ATK/300/Wind/Bottom Middle

"I use the Spell Air Strike! I pay 800 lifepoints while I control a LINK-3 Monster to destroy all cards you control!"

Blood LP: 1900 – 1100

Missiles reigned down from the sky as Faust saw his Inzektors get destroyed before him.

"I attack directly with Drone Kuriboh!" The Kuriboh fired a static shock at Faust which made him flinch.

Faust LP: 2200 – 1800

"General attacks!" Blood commanded as it fired more rapid shots onto Faust. The blasts sent him flying across the control room.

Faust LP: 2200 – 0 Blood Wins

Soulburner entered and had saw Blood win.

"I… guess you beat Baira…. I was never much of a duelist myself….!" Faust smirked.

"It's over…. you were one of the people who created the Hanoi… and now I'll make you suffer!" Blood Shepherd held out his hand and Soulburner reacted.

"No! It's not the way!" Soulburner grabbed his arm but Blood easily threw him aside.

"We're getting deleted already!" Baira said weakly as she staggered her way into the control room.

"Correct. We choose to willingly be deleted if we ever lost a duel… our data souls will further power the anti-data before…."

The two looked at the computer consoles around the boat which had a ticking countdown.

"Please tell me that's not what I think….." Soulburner said.

"I'm guessing Genome also lost…. when we get all lose… the systems will explode!" Faust smirked as he and Baira faded away.

LINK VRAINS

On top of a building Revolver, Kogami and a now awake Violet Dagger saw live footage of the three generals being defeated.

"They knew the risks.." Kogami said. "They wanted to repent for their sins."

"I couldn't save them unlike you, Miyu." Revolver looked at her.

"I know…"

"The boat will explode… I have no doubt they'll survive, we gave them enough time to escape." Revolver said. "But the anti-data will stop being processed from the boat."

"LINK VRAINS is sixty percent destroyed." Kogami replied. "But since we have the Earth Ignis…. I might just be able to use it to finish off the destruction."

"Do you need my help?" Revolver asked.

"Since this will likely be my final mission…. yes, you can help me, Ryoken. Miyu, please monitor in case Spectre and Trojan lose… you will have to step in if they do."

"I understand." she said as a portal opened and Revolver and Kogami departed.

Violet looked at another holoscreen which showed Blue Girl and Playmaker set to take on Spectre and Trojan.

During your main phase if this card is in your graveyard you can banish it and you can draw an extra card from your deck.

Target a Drone on the field and gain lifepoints equal to its attack.

If a Drone Link Monster was destroyed this turn, summon one Link Material used to summon it from your graveyard.
