2005

Forks, Washington.

"Trying to walk and chew gum at the same time again Bella?" Emmett asked with a grin as he walked into the room with Jasper, seeing Carlisle medically attend to Bella. He and Jasper had just been on a hunt to try and find out more information about this army of newborns that was terrorising Seattle. A lot had happened since Emmett's run in with Paul, Edward had caught the scent of an intruder in Bella's home, making it once again unsafe for her and Charlie, Emmett and Jasper had been trying to track the scent for days but couldn't, the Cullen males had come to the conclusion that the destruction in Seattle was from an army of Newborns and whilst they had planned for the battle to be taken to Seattle, Alice's vision said otherwise when she saw that the army was coming here. So, now was the plan for the packs and the Cullens to train together in order for them to be victorious and stop the attacks, it took some convincing but the packs and the vampires agreed to keep it civil for the sake of all humankind...and Bella.

Bella smirked at his words, "I punched a werewolf in the face." She said finding amusement at her own actions, Emmett leaned down on the piano with a grin, he could feel Rosalie's eyes burning into the back of him, but he ignored it. "Badass…" He said with a grin, "You're going to make one tough little newborn." He added, he could hear the frustrated sigh coming from Rosalie who was sitting on the sofa reading through the paper, "Tough enough to take you on." Bella challenged him playfully, but before he could reply his wife stood in frustration, throwing the paper and storming out. He saw the expression on Bella's face and felt bad, he wished Rosalie would just accept her as part of this family too, "Don't worry about it." He reassured Bella before conversing with his brothers and Carlisle about the situation.

"If you're coming to brag about the joys of being a newborn, you can take it somewhere else." Rosalie told Bella who had come out onto the balcony to talk to her. "Rosalie...why do you hate me so much?" She asked softly, Rosalie sniggered, "I don't hate you! I don't particularly like you but…" Rosalie paused slightly, "Bella I envy you…" She mumbled, showing her vulnerable side to someone else other than Emmett. Meanwhile, had gone up to the room, which just so happened to be above the balcony the women were talking on. Since the window was open he had caught all the conversation, how Rosalie envied Bella, how she didn't get a choice, she told Bella about how she turned - something she didn't open up about a lot, because if she was completely honest, it still hurt her. She told Bella about how she got revenge, but it was the last bit that hurt him the most. "Things got better after I found Emmett...but we'll always be this, frozen, never moving forward…" She said sadly, "What I would give to get the chance to be human again, the chance to have children, grow old, Bella...don't throw all that away, this isn't the life you want." She said actually showing Bella some kindness, through her own selfishness really but still, no rude comments, no evil stares or eye rolls. Emmett felt himself shatter slightly before leaving the room, unable to hear anymore.

It was around 2am, Bella was sleeping with Edward - well, Bella was sleeping in his arms whilst he admired, Alice was in the kitchen with Jasper, being cute and playful with each other. Esme was at the computer researching some stuff for her business, whilst Carlisle was reading in the library. Rosalie had come downstairs from her bedroom, confused when she couldn't find Emmett, "Have you seen Emmett?" She asked softly, confused, Esme shook her head, Rose nodded before going through to the kitchen asking her siblings the same, "Last time I saw he was out in the back…" Jasper said to her with a soft smile, "Thanks." She said simply before going out into the back, but he wasn't there either, it wasn't until she looked up and saw his shadow up on the roof, it worried her because she knew he only went up there when he needed to think.

Rosalie swallowed slightly before jumping up to join him, it was pretty dark that night so she could only really see the silhouette of him leaning against the chimney, his legs bent with his muscular arms draped over each knee. Looking out to the moonlit lake through the trees, she slowly walked over to him before sitting next to him, but facing him, "Emmett...are you okay?" She asked her husband softly, Emmett just continued to look towards the lake, "Yeah." He said softly, he lied, he never liked to feel sad, or down, he was the tough guy so it was hard for him to show vulnerability, but with her - with each other, they often showed their vulnerable sides to each other. She knew him well enough to know he wasn't telling the truth and she moved her hand to the back of his head softly, lacing her fingers into his dark hair, "No you're not…" She replied softly, "What's going on?" She asked looking at him, when he didn't respond she just pursed her lips, "Emmett talk to me, you can't shut me out like this. That's not what we do." She whispered genuinely worried about him. To everyone else she seemed so cold and cruel and he seemed like the tough guy who didn't hurt, but when it was just them two together, they were completely natural, honest, open. Emmett balled his hand up in a fist and locked it in with his other hand before letting out a sigh, "I hate that I can't make you truly happy…" He said softly, Rose arched her brows, "What?" She asked a little heartbroken that he thought that. Emmett paused for a moment before looking at her, "I heard you talking to Bella, about how you'd give anything up to be human again...for the chance to have children...does that include me?" He asked her not wanting to argue or hurt her, but her words hurt him. He knew she never wanted this life, he knew what she truly wanted but something about this time hurt so much more, "Emmett.." Rosalie whispered a little sadly, "If you had the chance of getting everything you ever wanted...would you give me up?" He asked not even sure if he wanted the answer, "Nevermind...I love you so much that I'd let you go...if it meant you were happy." He said sending her a small smile, a sad smile though, before looking back to the lake sadly. The guilt was almost too much for Rose to process before she moved into his lap, straddling him slightly but not in a sexual way, cupping his cheeks in her hands, making him look at her. "Emmett...I love you, you. I wanted so much to be a mother, and still do...but If I can't have them with you, then I don't want them at all…" She said softly, "I know what I said was selfish and I'm so sorry that it hurt you, I never wanted that. But, you have to know that you are my happiness, you are everything I want and need and there is no me without you. So, If I have to live the rest of forever sad that I don't have children, but have you by my side, to call my own, then so be it. I'd rather a lifetime with you than a lifetime without you." She told him, sending him a reassuring look. "Besides, I would only take the opportunity to be human again if you had the same opportunity given…" She whispered with a small smile, he smiled softly too and she felt his hand on her lower back softly. "I can't live without you Rose...I just wish I could give you what you want." He mumbled pulling her closer softly, "You don't have to live without me Em, and I wish I could give you the same thing." Rose whispered, knowing Emmett wanted a family with her just as much as she did. She rested her forehead against his, closing her eyes softly as he embraced, "I love you…" He whispered softly kissing her nose, "I love you too." She whispered back before looking into his eyes and kissing him deeply, yet softly.

Rosalie and Emmett spend the rest of the night out on the roof, talking, laughing, a lot of pillow talk without the pillows. She stayed between his legs, resting back against his chest, her head in the crook of his neck, his arms around her, his cheek against her head as their fingers intertwined, occasionally kissing her head softly. Emmett enjoyed hearing everything she had to tell him and it most definitely made him feel better, he felt stupid for even getting sad about it, he should have known Rose was never going to give him up. The couple watched as the sunrose, causing their vampire skin to sparkle, they thought it was a curse, but Emmett couldn't help but admit how beautiful it made Rose, when she sparkled in the sunlight, when the sun reflected in her eyes, she was a goddess and he was more than lucky to have her.
