Short but I loved writing this chapter, it is already one of my favorites.
Lexi shuddered as Samantha walked in the door, she could almost feel how utterly pissed the girl was. The knowledge of what Elena had done to Stefan, something Elena had told her with Stefan's phone, was beyond horrifying. Damon had laughed at her, Vicki smirking with a "That's my girl." to her disgust. She wanted to hurt them but that would just piss Samantha off some more and that wasn't going to be worth it.
"She smells like ash, wonder why?" Damon's voice was filled with amusement, turning to her with a mocking smirk. "I wonder what she is going to do to you. Hey, Samantha!" He yelled out, and she heard the girl's heartbeat.
It was quiet, not jumping in the slightest as she made her way into the living room. Her body covered in blood and ash, her eyes blank and unfeeling.
Lexi knew she was fucked and so he did her best to lay low, her daylight ring sitting on the table in an offering of peace. She did not want to die, or end up like Stefan... weak witch or not, she did not doubt this little girl in front of her. She wasn't dumb enough to do that.
"Lexi... good, you put your daylight ring down, smart... you... you are free to go." She gestured to the door behind her, smiling kindly. "Go on, go... but be warned, if you ever return, I will feed you what remains of Stefan. Are we clear?"
Nodding, Lexi slowly walked towards the girl, not wanting to piss her off further or worse, startle her. " Thank you... and for what it's worth, I really thought he would have a better reason for doing this. I mean it is Damon, or so I thought, he was going against... I really am sorry."
The girl stared at her, sighing for a moment before pulling out a gun. " This has wooden bullets, I was going to shoot you... when you left but I have a better idea... keep your ring but you owe me. Massively. If I say jump you say how hi in mind air. Am I clear?"
"Crystal..."
"Good... before you go, I need you to smash this." She pulled out a compass, pretty and ornate. " It is powerful but fragile from age. Shatter it, consider this the first of your payments you owe me."
Without waiting, Lexi did as she was asked, taking and crushing the compass in her hands. She felt the metal bend under her fingers, crumbling to the floor. "There... done."
"Thank you... now, give me your number then leave. I expect you to be fully out of town in the hour. Collect your stuff as you'd like."
Lexi vanish, only moments after giving the girl her number, very, very grateful for not being killed. Even more grateful for keeping her daylight ring... But worrying and fearing what task the girl would ask of her later...
She hoped it did not require her to kill anyone.
"Sigh... that was exhausting... Damon, question... How do you deal with killing someone?" She walked over to her girlfriend, dropping in the girls lap ash and all. "I sacrificed Logan Fell, used his lifeforce to punish Elena and Stefan. I put his scorched corpse into the van, his van, then drove here. I am going to give him to the council. Tell them that he was a vamp and that he destroyed the compass... but again, how do you deal with that? I want to care about it but I just can't..."
Oddly enough, Damon actually looked sad. "Wait till it hits you , then ride the waves for a while... I usually just get worse but other people bury it, like Stefan. Don't do that, it will make you unstable."
"Oh... okay... so I guess it hasn't hit... call Liz, I want to explain everything to her in person. If she asks, Vicki is in the know because she was attacked by somebody. You helped her recover and that is why she knows. I know because of my dad, before he died... but only the basics. Elena is not in the know, neither is the rest of my family...don't let me screw this up. Vicki, we are using Damon's shower, I need a good cry and some company... oh and Damon... I have a surprise for you." Smiling, the girl stood up, and pulled off the bag from her side, a bag he now realized was Logan Fells. From it she pulled a very old, very familiar book. "Viola!"
He almost cried, though he would never admit it, seeing the damn thing and knowing he was that much closer to Katherine... it was a lot.
"You got it..."
"Yup... if Elena or douche face tries to steal it, I already took pictures of each page and saved it. My teacher has them too now, thanks to the power of email and text. Emily was an epic witch, a true artist. Even Lenore was baffled from some of her spells. We are reversing some of them, mainly her tomb spell, to break it easier. It is actually really simple, an elemental invocation... problem though, there are actually two spells. A Door spell and a boundry spell. One keeps the door up the other keeps the tomb boundary spell up. We are working around it, but I realized that I can break the door spell on my own if I channel you, like a sacrifice. Or Stefan is he agrees to make up his betrayal to me."
That stopped Damon, who sighed. " Why... why did you do so much to them? Not that I mind, but it felt too personal?
"He made me a liar and doomed a group of people to suffer for temporary crimes. I cannot forgive that... I know they are not fluffy bunnies, I am not stupid. My goal is to release one or two a month, so I can rest with Bonnie, then evaluate them. If they are messed up, we can kill them. If they are cool they get to live but away from here... now, enough talk. Call Liz, hide that book and let me shower."
"Yes Ma'am."

Liz wasn't sure how much she liked seeing Vicki and Samantha leaning on each other like they were, she loathed Vicki's mom and adored Samantha's so it was little odd... still, she could not deny how sweet they looked around each other. Vicki in a sundress was a touch odd, especially when she sat with the much more masculine dressed Samantha, who was dressed in a polo shirt and kahkis. It was a strange thing, but cute none the less.
"So you know?"
"Yup, Dad told me before he croaked. He said, problems aside, I was the only one of my siblings he trusted to know about it. Jer was too young, Elena was a too whiny and desperate for a normal life. I was rebellious and imaginative and open, so he told me. I didn't buy it till after he died, actually when I saw my first vampire here... It attacked Vicki and I saved her in the woods. It was only later that we realized it was Logan. Why do you think I didn't want him dating Jenna?"
Liz cringed at the reminder, looking at the charred corpse in front of her, the corpse of her old friend. "How did you...?" She couldn't bring herself to fully ask it.
"Slit his throat, which disabled him long enough for me to flip him over and snap his neck. Uncle John and Stefan Salvatore have been teaching me hand to hand, John the basics and Stefan some more advanced Stuff. Damon is way better so he's agreed to take over, apparently it is family tradition to do that. Even if they aren't in the know, right Damon?"
She turned to Damon, who nodded with a sigh. "Yes, she's right... also you should know, he killed Zach. He had been missing for a while. I thought he was gone with his friends, like I told you, but Logan bragged about killing him so he could get rid of his vervain stash... I didn't know until now, but it makes sense."
"I'm sorry, Zach will be missed... "Sighing, she turned back to Samantha, who looked almost bored. " How good are you, at combat I mean?"
Samantha and Vicki both looked at each other with a sigh before Vicki replied for her. "We can hold our own against a basically trained fighter. Logan was strong, he was a vamp, but he wasn't able to fight to save his life. Samantha is ruthless in a fight, she doesn't play fair and is willing to take potshots. She got lucky with Logan to be honest."
"She's right, I did. Damon could take a vamp I think, he's strong and very skilled in combat."
Damon just shrugged, looking very humble. "I was professionally taught, a chick named Sage... an amazing boxer, but before that my father had me and Stefan learn to fight for years. I am much better at fighting, and Stefan isn't in the know... yet."
"I understand, and it's good that you girls are safe. I, this town, owes you a lot Samantha."
The girl nodded. "Yes it does... I am sorry he destroyed the compass. I gave it to you so you could find him. I didn't realize that it was malfunctioning. I guess it makes sense though, it is old... " She gestured to the crumpled up compass pieces next to Logan's burned body. "It would have been great if we could have fixed it."
"That's okay, your alive and the Vampire is dead. That's what matters... keep your eyes open and this has to stay secret... if anyone asks, Logan died in fire with his van. We will organize the cover up. I expect you to adhere to the story."
"Yes ma'am."
With that weight lifted, she nodded and stood. "Damon, care to help me with the body?"
"Not a problem."
As they carried the body out, Liz whispered to Damon. "Is she really okay? Killing someone is still killing someone, vampire or not. Is she taking it well?"
Damon's eyes were filled with sorrow and strength. "Better then you'd imagine, she's a strong one, I promise... just give her time. She's project heavy. She wants to continue training with me and Vicki, and leave her out of everything unless you absolutely have too. She's becoming like a little sister to me."
"I'll keep that in mind."
"He's good at talking out of his ass." Vicki snorted, repeating the words Damon said to her lover. " Like a sister, that's funny."
Samantha just sighed. "He killed you, threatened me and you and so many others. Sister is overstating a lot... but I do like him. He doesn't mask what he is from us, and that is important... anyway...I want to wait till Bonnie is back, before messing with the tomb. I think between the two of us we can break each part safely. I'd rather not die for Damon."
"I'd rather you not die period."
"Agreed." They were silent for a minute before Samantha pulled out her new wooden gun. "I want to learn how to aim with my toy. I am thinking of enchanting the gun, to make the bullets more dangerous. Carve some wooden bullets with spells, soak them in vervain and whatever... thoughts?"
"I think you are terrifying... and I pity anyone who wants to make you an enemy." She meant what she said, everyone else seemed to be reacting to the trouble and shitstorm that was Mystic Falls. Samantha was building herself into a one women army, bit by bit. If she accomplished a tenth of her plans, she would be indestructible.
That just made Samantha laugh. " As you should... as you should."
"Why are you so... plan heavy?" She looked at her lover, curious and wondering what the hell was going on in her pretty head. "Are you predicting something or is it paranoia?"
"Bit of both... a witch at full power can go against a vamp blow for blow. A great witch can decimate entire armies on their own. I will never be that way, but if I can give myself every advantage I can, then maybe I can myself and those I love alive... and that is what motivates me... your included in that Vicki. I want to keep you alive... by any means necessary. If that means turning myself into a one women army, then so be it. I refuse to let myself become unaware... now, since I have your attention and I need to distract myself... how do you feel about starting to prepare grandma Mary's ring? I have some compass inspired ideas."
"I would love nothing more."
Chapter end, tell me what you think in the reviews.
Short but fun and powerful and I loved writing it. Seriously it ends a good arc on it's own.
Love, your Ninja Overlord,
Mika.
