20 – The end

After working for my dads for about five years I decided to start my own firm. The firm usually took on small cases and helped the police a lot with protection missions. The firm was small with little significance as my dads liked to put it, which meant I didn't join the huge mission where they took down known villains. But I was happy, the firm stood for everything I meant was important and I didn't need anything more than that. Together with the firm I started an organization that would help children away from the streets and gave them a place where they could train their quirks or just hang out. The situation in Japan had changed a lot since I was a kid. Children were often born with stronger quirks than adults, which the villains took advantage of and used their quirks for criminal activities. It had become more and more popular to have children just for the sake of their quirks, without any thought of how to raise them right or teach them how to properly control their quirks. I wanted a place where I could teach children how they were suppose to use their quirks, and inspire them to use their quirks for good and for the benefit of others.

My schedule was usually really full from running the firm and the organization; I didn't have a lot of spare time to focus on myself. My office was covered in paperwork looking more like a storage room than an office that belonged to a boss. I was writing a report about my last case that was due about three days ago, it was expected to be at least ten pages long and as always and I could never think about any more to write than about three pages. My hands were shaking from the massive intake of caffeine I had poured into myself during the few hours I´ve been at the office. I grabbed for the cup again, feeling that drinking more would give me the motivation I needed to finish. I raised the cup to my mouth filling my mouth with the cold coffee. I don't have time to refill it had I convinced myself, as I gulped down the bitter beverage. Three soft knocks on the door didn't make me look up from the PC as I figured it was someone from my team. The door went up.
"Ms. Bakugou, there are someone here for you"
"I´ve told you to call me Malina, Megumi." She waited for me to look up from the screen before telling me who it was; when she saw how busy I was she hesitated.
"Shall I ask them to come back?"
"No just, get it over with" I waved to her. She closed the door before it went up again.
"Long time, no see, Shorty" I didn't need to look up to know it was Tokoyami in the doorway. I closed the laptop without thinking. I haven't seen Tokoyami since we graduated; sure we had texted some, but not in years. He was just as tall as always and was wearing a suit, looking like he was going to a business meeting. I rose up to give him a hug, he was still so tall that it was hard to wrap my arms around his neck.
"Sorry about the mess, I have a lot on my plate these days" I told him, trying to block his view to the towers of paper.
"I don't mind. You free for lunch?" I looked at the watch hanging on the wall knowing it was broken.
"Sure, let me get my coat"
We talked for a long time at the restaurant, he told me about his fathers firm up north and how he was expected to take over when his father didn't want to be a hero anymore, which was sooner rather then later.
"I don't feel like I belong up there, not like I did here" he looked out the window of the restaurant, trying to catch a glimpse of UA high school up on the hills.
"Then start your own here, we could always use more heroes around here, and because of UA you always have enough people who wants to work for you" I smiled to him, trying to sound more encouraging than I really was. Motivational speeches were always his strong side, not mine.
"I thought about it" he leant forward, his bright red eyes looked like they sparkled a little more than they used too. "I was wondering if your firm needed people?" I choked on the air and started to cough.
"What? You want to work for me?" I was shocked, was that why he was here? Was it really me he had dressed up in a suit for? Did he think this would be some kind of work interview?
"Sure, but I was hoping I could work with you" I frowned on the way he was phrasing himself. I drank some water to think about what he meant before I asked.
"You want to run my firm with me?"
"I can buy myself into your firm, I don't have to own 50%, we can make it 30-70 or whatever makes you comfortable"
"Takai, I don't even know you anymore, and my firm is my baby, I cant just…" he put his finger in front of my mouth to silence me.
"I understand" he removed the finger looking out the window. "I can start working for you and if you want me as a partner, you just tell me, sound good?"

I smiled to him as I reached out my hand. He grabbed it, pressing it hard as he we agreed to the terms.
"Welcome to the firm then!"

He worked for me as my sidekick and closest partner for about a year before I let him buy himself into the firm. He was really organized and I never missed a deadline after hiring him. The firm grew so much in only a year because of him. He respected that I wanted the company to focus on low crime and kept it to that, but at the same time he kept developing the firm. About two years after he started working there both Tokoyami and I was ranked on the top hundred heroes, something that never happened with firms that only focused on low crimes, but the locals loved us and we had gained a great reputation. My dad Bakugou finally raised to the number one hero, his dreams since he was a child finally became true. It really seemed like the winds had changed for the Kirishima-Bakugou family.

I let Tokoyami buy half the company after two years and we ran it together, and as you might have guessed the romance grew too, and after working with Tokoyami for about 5 years we have gotten married and had one child together, a boy. His name was Kenji, just like his uncle. Every Saturday we visited my dads to eat together and to have family training day, which had developed more to a soccer- and play-day. As Kenji grew we figured out that just like his uncle he had two quirks, he was able to create multiple shadow copies of himself as well as Kirishimas quirk, the hardening quirk, which he could apply on the shadow copies making them really strong. As he turned ten he could make half a soccer team with his copies and have full control over them all, making family training day really interesting as all the adults would play against his shadow copies. The adults usually won, but not by a lot.

During the winter I would use my quirk to make a hockey field and we would play hockey against the copies. Using the ice quirk always made me think of my brother, wishing he could see how the family had grown, wishing he could meet Kenji and play against his copies and wishing he could meet Tokoyami. I was really grateful for everything he ever was for me, and though I could never repay him for what he had meant for me after his death, I hoped that I had done enough to honor his name after his death.

My dads had put up a memorial below the huge three that used to be our three. I would take Tokoyami and Kenji there every Saturday to pay my respects and to talk to him if I needed too. He would forever wait for me under the three were we looked at the stars in the night.
As Kenji grew he also wanted to be a hero, just like his grandparents and his parents. I guess it's hard to not want to become a hero when they surround you. He really looked up to both his grandparents, and my dads really rose to the occasion with him, being the best grandparents as they could be. As he got into his teens he asked Bakugou and Kirishima if they could be his guide and train him to become even stronger, and of course they spoiled him with saying yes. I felt the entire story of our family had come full circle as he opened his acceptance letter to UA and was crying of happiness. I was so proud, I wish you could have seen it Kenji.

I know it is a cliche ending, but i really hope you liked the story. i worked really hard on it and being the first story i have ever completed was an accomplishment in itself. Thank you for reading!
