Aragorn had already engaged with the Urukai.
The many monsters had found us separated and were now between the few members of the fellowship.
Legolas separated from myself as Samwise ran for cover.
Drawing my sword from its hilt, I cut into the first monster that crossed my path.
Gimli appeared at a point, swinging his axe and taking out another urukai.
Eventually, the monsters ceased to appear.
Aragorn was found, leaning over Boromir's body. The latter had three arrows protruding from his torso as he lay where he had fallen.
"I would have followed you, my brother. My captain. My king." The man finished.
"Be at peace, son of Gondor." Aragorn bid to his kinsman. "They will look for his coming from the White Tower, but he will not return." Aragorn expressed to us as he stood.
Gimli leaned against his axe and lowered his head.
I retracted my shifted skin and knelt down. To my left, I noticed a white stain across the armor of a fallen Uruk-hai. "Where are the hobbits?" I asked solemnly.
The others began to look around as they too noticed the lack of halflings.
I listened with all of my might but could not make out the sounds of hobbit feet, or breathing besides our own.
"The Uruk-hai were determined to get the halflings." Gimli pointed out.
"Frodo ran." I pointed out. "He took off for the boats and Sam went after him."
"Let us bury Boromir." Aragorn requested. "The ringbearer will be safe on the water."
"They wanted the halflings, then they will be bringing them to whomever they serve." Gimli pointed out.
I scoffed, "There are more than enough white hands surrounding us to indicate who that is." I kicked one of the bodies.
Aragorn gathered Boromir's body.
I picked up the man's shield and followed as Boromir's remains were placed into one of the boats. I handed the shield to Aragorn.
The man solemnly placed the body in the tradition of their people, setting the sword and shield upon his breast before launching the boat into the lake.
There was silence as we gathered ourselves and patched wounds. The boat tumbled down the waterfall, Boromir's remains disposed of in what the race of man consider honorable.
"Hurry, Frodo and Sam have reached the eastern shore." Legolas prepared to launch another boat into the water and pursue them.
Aragorn remained seated, looking across the river at the boat the hobbits had taken.
"You mean not to follow them?" Legolas questioned.
"Frodo's fate is no longer in our hands." The Dunedain answered.
"Then is has all been in vain." Gimli concluded. "The Fellowship has failed."
Aragorn stood, focusing on the remainder of us. "Not if we hold true to each other. We will not abandon Merry and Pippin to torment and death. Not while we have strength left." He turned towards the forests. "Leave all that can be spared behind. We travel light. Lets hunt from orc."
Legolas glanced at Gimli who had started to smile.
"Yes!" The dwarf let out.
I glanced from the dwarf to the elf. "Perhaps this will be like old times after all." I stepped into the trees to follow the others.
Legolas set a hand in the small of my back for a moment as I walked in front of him.
