Mending A Broken Heart

Chapter 27

Shippo and Rin were huddled together besides Ah-Un, talking quietly when Sesshomaru and Kagome landed softly nearby. Jaken jerked awake when he felt his master's presence.

"Master! You're back!" Jaken yelped as he leaped to his feet. Sesshomaru ignored him and Kagome had to bite her lip to hide her smile at the frightend look on Jaken's face.

That stupid toad is always sleeping. I really should punish him for it, but he punishes himself enough by his own imagination.Sesshomaru said to Kagome through their link. Kagome just giggled.

Jaken's noise made Rin and Shippo look up to see what was going on. Both of their faces lit up at the sight of their parents returning.

"Mama!" Both yelled at they rushed forward to hug Kagome. Sesshomaru felt a pang of sadness that they didn't want to hug him. Kagome looked up at him when she felt his sadness.You are a good father. You just need to relax around them and some more affection to them.

Easier said than done, love. You are asking me to break years of training and habits.Sesshomaru snorted.

Just try.Kagome continued to hug the children to her for a moment before gently pulling them away from her.

"I think your father would like a hug as well." Kagome said quietly. Both children looked up uncertainly at Sesshomaru before looking back at Kagome. She nodded and Sesshomaru hesitantly opened his arms to the children and bent down to their level. Rin and Shippo both waited a moment before launching themselves into Sesshomaru's waiting arms. Sesshomaru was caught off guard by how much that they wanted to hug him. He wrapped his arms around both children. He looked at Kagome to find silence tears streaming down her face.

Why are you crying, love?

Just happy. I remember thinking a few days ago that you might not be ready to be a father, but it just seems you needed to open up your heart.

You may be right, my love.Sesshomaru sighed and felt true happiness wash over him for the first time since he was a pup. Shippo and Rin finally pulled away from their father and looked up at Kagome.

"What happens now?" Shippo asked.

"We can finally move on with our lives." Kagome answered. "Let's go home."

Dear Mama,

The battle that we all have waited for is finally over. Everyone came out of it mostly unharmed. Sango was very happy to see her brother again. They and Miroku have settled in the old slayer village and are going to be rebuilding it. I will be visiting them there soon to help Sango plan her wedding to Miroku.

The Sacred Jewel is also gone from the world entirely. Inuyasha was not too happy with me when I wished it away. He wanted to use it to bring Kikyo back to life. I believe he has gotten over his anger because he arrived at the castle a few weeks ago to take Sesshomaru up on his offer to train him properly with his sword. I think that because he also has a new nephew to coo over is part of the reason he finally swallowed his pride and decided to train with his brother. It has been an interesting adjustment for the two of them. Sesshomaru is trying to be patient with Inuyasha, but Rome wasn't built in a day either.

If you read my earlier statement, you would be correct in your assumption. You are now a grandmother. Little Daiki is currently sleeping next to me as I compose this letter. He is now three days old and looking more like his father every day. Shippo and Rin already love their new little brother very much. Sesshomaru is very proud to finally have his heir, but when we are alone with the pup, he just can't stop looking at what we created. I have a feeling that you will have many more grandchildren in the future to learn about.

I have spoken to Sesshomaru about a way to make sure these letters get to you one way or another, but I am not going to tell you more just yet.

Well, I guess that is the end of this letter since your grandson just awoke and is demanding to be feed.
