CHAPTER 22: HIDEYO

HIDEYO

Finally arriving to his lords shiro, he is stopped by his best general, Atreus. Atreus is black inu yokai from Greece. He is extremely experienced with war and strategy. As well he should be since he's over a thousand years old. He's served Lord Sesshomaru for more than three hundred years faithfully.

"Who are you and why are you here?" Atreus asked. His voice was deep with a velvety rasp. He wore the Taisho crest upon his traditional Japanese amour, white in color since the house he serves are white and silver dogs.

"I am here to upon Lord Sesshomaru's request. I have important information about Menomaru's plot against him." Hideyo stated matter of factly. "Will you take me to him?" He asked.

"Lord Sesshomaru and his mate are not here. They went on a rampage once they learned that their children were kidnapped last night." Atreus stated, eyeing Hideyo curiously.

"HE DID WHAT?!" Hideyo practically screamed and it surprised Atreus. "Tell me it isn't true..." Hideyo begged.

"I'm afraid it is true. Lady Kagome became unhinged and transformed into a gigantic black inu. I don't think she even knew she was able to do such a thing because of all the pain she was in at first. (Atreus eyed Hideyo again more closely) Who are you...?" Atreus asked, guarded.

"My name is Hideyo. I have served Lord Sesshomaru for a very long time. He does not speak of me or our relationship due to safety reasons. You see...I am a skilled assassin and spy. Not nearly as good as I thought because Lord Sesshomaru was able to detect me easily one night many years ago. I offered my eternal service in exchange for my life and he agreed. I've served him faithfully ever since because he is very good to me. He has spoken of you often, General, and fondly to my surprise. Normally he does not do such a thing for anyone but he has assured me that you are just as loyal and are trustworthy." Hideyo said confidently with a smile.

Atreus stiffened, shocked. He never knew that his lord said such things about him. He knew that his lord respected him but to talk about him to others he didn't know with praise was something else. Pride swelled in his chest and a fond smile formed on his face. "The only thing I know is that the lord and lady went north. All other yokai fanned out in every direction. Even Prince Koga of the wolf tribe is aiding them. You know how the lord's relationship has been with him in the past since most of Koga's wolves feast on almost anything that moves. He came at the request of Lady Kagome. Apparently they've been friends for years so he readily agreed to help. Even Lord Sesshomaru's half-brother, Inuyasha, is out there with them. I never thought I would ever see the day that those two would be on any kind of civil terms, considering their complicated past." Atreus stated as he and Hideyo made their way outside.

"Agreed. I've never had anything against the hanyou but Lord Sesshomaru has never hid his disgust for him. I wonder if they have finally come to some kind of agreement?" Hideyo asked, somewhat confused.

"It would seem so. I mean, Inuyasha has been here for a couple of week and they haven't tried to kill each other yet. Lord Sesshomaru even lets Inuyasha into his private study with him some nights to go over battle plans. You know as well as I do that he never lets anyone go in there, aside from himself, Lady Kagome, and his Generals. Even that is a rarity." Atreus stated.

This was a bit puzzling for Hideyo. Atreus was right. Sesshomaru never allows anyone but a handful of people into his private study. In all honesty, Hideyo was glad that the brothers were trying to form some kind of bond. It was tradition that the brother to the lord of these lands was to be the commander of his lords armies. Perhaps this is why Lord Sesshomaru is being so...accepting of Inuyasha. That's the only thing I can come up with that actually makes sense. Hideyo thought to himself.

Suddenly, they heard a loud howl far to the north. Both of them snapped their heads in the same direction. They knew it was their lord. They also knew that both him and Kagome had caught scent of their sons. It was only a matter of time before the princes returned home and everyone would be able to breathe a sigh of relief.

I'm really sorry that it took me so long to update. This chapter is short because it is more of a filler. I wanted to introduce a character for a foreign country that was different from the rest. Hence why I introduced Atreus in this chapter. He will be in a few more chapters to come. He's a bit of a hardass and very blunt. Like, he doesn't care if he hurts your feelings kind of blunt.

Anyway, I hope everyone is liking the story so far. I'm hoping to post a couple more chapters soon!
