It had taken 3 more days, but Sam's blood tests were back to normal, and she felt a lot better. Her dad had 4 more days before he was heading out to California to see Mark and the kids. Sam had taken that time off. Jack had been by but hadn't been spending the night. Something Sam didn't overthink. She found that his place was more comfortable when it was the two of them anyways. Jack, Daniel, Michelle, and Robert were working, and Teal'c had gone on a few missions to known planets checking in trading, or just checking out areas previously unchecked by other SG teams. The stays were short, none of them more than 12 hours.
Every morning Sam and her dad had run around the neighborhood, Sam keeping her father's pace. They would talk about a little bit of everything. Sam was really enjoying the time she was having with her father. Sam had to admit that things were changing rather quickly. It seemed her life was like that and she had gotten used to the constant chaos that surrounded her.
"So I noticed Jack hadn't been around as much," Jacob stated.
"He's working, dad," Sam claimed.
"I know that, but you know more than anyone, that there is only so much time, Sam. Invite him over tonight, and I'll make Spaghetti Carbonara." Jacob stated.
Sam looked over at him knowing he was right.
"He probably is just trying to give us some space, like you said we only have so much time, and he wants me to spend it with you, "Sam claimed.
"Well, if he's going to be my son-in-law, he better get used to me hanging around," Jacob claimed.
"Dad!" Sam wined.
"Oh, what you guys just going to shack up forever, I mean eventually it becomes common law marriage anyway, Sam," Jacob claimed.
Sam sighed.
"We've been on two dates, dad," Sam claimed.
"Come on, Sam, if he gave you a ring today, would you say yes?" Jacob asked.
Sam sighed, knowing her dad was right. She got a daydream in her head. A white dress was never her thing. She imagined a champagne-colored dress fit tightly to her body and long train. The dress she bought when she was engaged to Jonas had been bright white, a dress that she secretly hated, but his mother and her friend Cathy who was her best friend at the time, loved it. She knew it looked good on her, but it wasn't her, just another thing hindsight, she wished she saw coming.
Sam and Jacob finished their run, and they went back home. Sam had called Jack's office phone and felt like a teenager doing so.
"So dad insists you come over and stay," Sam stated.
"Oh, your dad wants a sleepover?" Jack asked, thinking it was a joke.
"He does," Sam claimed.
"You know that is weird, right?" Jack asked.
"I'm aware," Sam claimed.
"Well, it will have to be the 4 of us. I'm getting Cassie after school," Jack explained.
"Of course, that will be great. I haven't seen her in a little bit," Sam claimed.
"It will be perfect then, I'll see you early around four," Jack claimed.
"See you then," Sam stated.
Daniel was talking with Robert, who, despite being on SG-1 now, was very interested in the science aspect and was very intelligent. Robert was eager to learn what Daniel was looking at. Daniel was excited even though Robert wasn't on "his team" they would be working side by side for a lot of the missions, so it was nice to have someone interested in what they were doing.
Daniel wondered how Robert and Jack got along but had to figure that out at a later date since SG-1 and SG-11 split. Though Daniel was still very close to Jack, Jack didn't have a lot of excuses to have Daniel come to his office. Daniel still did meander that way, and there were days that he would spend hours talking to Jack about whatever it was.
It was funny that for once, Jack wasn't always in charge. A lot of times, it was Sam. It was funny the looks Jack would give her when he disagreed, and although he was a commanding officer, he wasn't her direct commanding officer who had given Sam a little more verbal leeway.
Daniel hadn't heard too much about the blooming relationship, but he figured it was because there wasn't too much to hear. The two of them were always running around. Jack sat in a lot of meetings, and then there were a lot of times they wanted him on base to see if something ancient would work. Jack was annoyed every time they called him. Jack didn't appreciate being a lab rat, but Daniel saw it as an opportunity, where Jack saw it as an annoyance.
Daniel and Robert were going over ruins that had come back from an outing SG-7, and SG-13 came back from. Daniel got them because they were supposedly Babylonian, but he couldn't decipher most of it. It was too broken up.
Robert was fascinated by how easily Daniel could pick up the language. Daniel told him about his parents and life all over the place, especially in Egypt. He didn't give details about his parent's horrible accident but explained to Robert, his parent's love of Archaeology drove him to learn more. To seek the truth and come to appreciate it.
Robert had then told a story about his past and the reason how he came to be in the SGC.
"My parents, unlike yours, really didn't care too much about me. I was baby number 7, about the 5th baby too many. Mom was 43 when she had me, a mistake she claimed, just like the six previous." Robert claimed.
"It must have been rough." Daniel thought.
"Yeah, I wanted out so bad my parents signed the papers when I was 17 and never looked back," Robert explained.
"So, how did you get here?" Daniel asked.
"Well, luck, I guess, I was 17 and peeling potatoes, no one would actually send me out, anywhere, then Iraq happened it suddenly it didn't seem to matter that I had just turned 18 2 days prior I was being shipped out," Robert claimed.
"It was rough, but the troop I was in, we were like family. More family than my parents ever were to me." Robert explained.
"And your siblings?" Daniel asked.
"Well, Mary is the oldest. She's 50 now, had a kid before I was even born, we don't talk much even though she and mom were the closest. Then there is Fred he is 48 and has 5 children of his own. Loved it that there were so many of us running around, but once again, he was graduating high school when I came into the picture. Jessica is 45, and mom still treats her like the baby, always getting something from mom and dad. She could never really make it on her own. Danny is 42, and he owns his own business. Mom and dad got mad when he refused to allow them to own part of it. They told him he was crazy for having a Coffee shop, but he made more in the first year then my parents had made in 5. They got jealous asked if we sell them 1/2 of the business. They said Danny he owed it to them, and when he refused, mom and dad wrote them off. Tony is 41 and just 10 months apart from Danny. Tony is smart as a tack went to MIT; he actually works there now. Tony has been the most level headed out of all of us, and he was still young enough. I remember him the house more often than not. Lindsey is 37, and she is the rebel. She went out and got a job at 14, scraped by, moved out with her boyfriend when she was 16, got married, had 2 babies, and got divorced all before turning 20. She's on husband number 4 now. Mom refuses to talk to her. Frankie is 32, and mom didn't even know she was pregnant with him until she was 7 months along. She thought she had just packed on some weight. Like I said, I'm the baby, and I just turned 30 in June. I haven't talked to my mom and dad in over two years. My siblings are hit and miss, Tony, and I speak the most, and he's the glue, so he tells me what's going on with everyone else." Robert explained.
"Must be interesting." Daniel smiled.
"We'll call it that, I call it Chaos but interesting has a nice ring to it." Robert laughed.
Jack had picked Cassie up from school and saw her kissing Elliott goodbye, and it wasn't a cute peck on the cheek. It was a full-on make-out scene for what felt like 6 hours to Jack, but oddly the digital clock in his car didn't say a minute had passed.
"Really, you had to kiss him like that?" Jack asked.
"Hi, Dad," Cassie said sarcastically.
"No seriously, they just let you do that at school? Maybe I should talk with the principal about how lax everything is around here." Jack said, half-serious.
"Whatever," Cassie claimed.
Jack dropped the subject.
"We're hanging out with Sam and Jacob tonight," Jack claimed.
"Really?" Cassie asked.
"Yeah," Jack said, smiling.
"So, Jacob knows?" Cassie asked.
"Oh yeah!" Jack claimed.
"And how does he feel that an older man has stolen his daughter away from him?" Cassie giggled.
"He's surprisingly overly okay with it," Jack claimed.
"Because he's known forever," Cassie claimed.
"Please..." Jack said mockingly.
"Seriously, when you and the rest of the team rescued me, I thought that you and Sam were going to be my new mom and dad. It wasn't because you were charge and Sam was your second. It was the way you acted. You took care of each other as my mom and dad did. I'm not saying that Teal'c and Daniel were neglected. You two just worked differently. I could see it in your eyes.
Cass, we barely knew each other back then." Jack stated.
"You still wanted her," Cassie said boldly.
Jack sighed.
"Alright, Cass, how was school," Jack asked.
"Oh, changing subjects, I see," Cassie claimed.
"It was fine. Elliot and I are working on a project in for the science fair." Cassie claimed.
"And what is it going to be?" Jack asked.
Showing how you can see how sugary a drink is with a laser pointer." Cassie claimed.
"That's not true," Jack claimed.
"Ask Sam," Cassie claimed.
"Damn, it is true… I don't want to know." Jack claimed.
Cassie moved on and talked about her other classes until they pulled up to Sam's house.
"Mom said she's on medical leave," Cassie claimed.
"And as I'm sure your mom told you, she is fine. Just had a chemical imbalance for a few days. She's alright now." Jack assured Cassie.
Cassie nodded her head and grabbed her bag and walked out the door.
"Hey!" Sam greeted.
"Cass, I'm so glad you're here," Sam claimed.
Cassie smiled at her.
Jacob greeted her, as well.
"Cassie, I haven't seen you in a long time," Jacob claimed.
Cassie smiled at him, not loving the feeling of detecting Sel'mak.
She didn't mean to flinch, but Jacob stopped short of pulling her into a hug.
"Sorry." She claimed.
"Don't be, I know it's an odd sensation, and you're not used to it." Jacob knew precisely why she had flinched away.
"I have a lot of homework," Cassie claimed.
Cassie pulled out her biology textbook, her math book, a history book, and a literature book. The stack was tall, and Jack shook his head.
"Seriously, you have to lug all that around," Jack asked as he picked up the books.
"Yep!" Cassie claimed.
She started to work and was working diligently.
Sam and Jack went to the kitchen with Jacob to allow her to do her homework. They were talking about the last few days in general. Jack told on Cassie kissing Elliott, and Sam laughed at the man being so upset by the situation.
"It must have been so traumatic to watch," Sam claimed.
"If I had bleach in the truck, I would have used it on my eyeballs," Jack claimed.
"Eck," Jack stated, and Sam laughed again.
"Dad," Cassie called.
Jack perked up and went to see what she needed going back to the living room.
"Dad?" Jacob asked.
"Yeah, it's new, but Cassie asked him and Janet, and they're all okay with it," Sam claimed.
"Good, it will do him good to have a little girl think of him as her dad," Jacob claimed.
"She has for a long time, but it's always been, Uncle Jack. She was rather upset when there was a possibility he would be staying on Edora." Sam explained.
Jacob nodded his head.
He looked at the clock and realized they had been talking for over an hour.
"I better start dinner."
"SAM," both Jack and Cassie yelled out.
"That's my cue," Sam claimed and went to the living room to see what the issue was.
Jacob had grabbed the ingredients but paid more attention to his daughter, Jack, and Cassie interacting in the next room. He was happy that his daughter had a semblance of a family. It wasn't perfect, which is what he always wanted for his daughter, but for now, this was what made her happy, and Jacob was delighted that she was happy.
