"What am I gonna do? What am I gonna do? What am I gonna do? What am I gonna do?" Currently Jaune was seen pacing around in circles with a panicked expression on his face. He was in his room at home with his friends from 1-B Pyrrha, Nora, and Ren with him and watching his little panic attack. Only hours before at UA, Present Mic had suddenly tasked Jaune with setting up the opening performance to the UA Sports Festival due to him being set out on some sort of job or mission or whatever.
Needless to say, Jaune was a bit stressed out.
"Jaune, take deep breaths." Pyrrha calmly instructed in an attempt to ger her blond friend to stop panicking. "Just calm down."
"Calm down? Calm down!?" Jaune snapped towards the red head who flinched in response. "How am I supposed to calm down?! I've been put in charge, forced mind you, into setting up the show that gonna open up thee Sports Festival and I'm supposed to be calm?!"
"…I'm sorry…" Pyrrha squeaked out as she tried to hide her head in between her shoulders.
"Aw come on Arc, whats there to be stressed about?" Nora said with her usual energetic smile as she zoomed next to Jaune and wrapped an arm around his shoulder. "So you just got put in charge of setting up a show that's gonna serve as the opening to one of the biggest events in the world that's gonna be seen by millions of people! There's no need to get stressed!"
Jaune's eye started violently twitching in response.
"You're really not helping Nora." Ren told his best friend while shaking his head and pulling the ginger off of the blond. "Like Nikos said Arc, just take deep breaths and try to think about this clearly."
"Its just…UGH!" Jaune groaned out as he put his hands to his head and lightly pulled on his golden locks. "I mean look at last years show! It was a humungous firework spectacular. How am I supposed to top that?"
"That is quite the predicament." Ren said as he put a hand to his chin in thought. "Did Present Mic give you anything to aid you in anyway?"
"Well, he did send me an email about a room he stored a bunch of instruments in. Plus he gave me permission to use whatever room in the school I need to after hours for whatever I need to use them for." Jaune told to his friends as he pulled out his phone and showed them the email Mic sent them. Sure enough, the email explained to Jaune about a room Present Mic had stocked up with instruments plus a full pass allowing Jaune to stay at UA after school hours. "So…what do you think I should do?"
"Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! I have the perfect idea!" Nora started jumping up and down in excitement as the perfect idea just clicked in her mind. "You should start a band!"
"A…band?" The three others in the room questioned with a head tilt.
"YEAH!" Nora jumped up high in the air with an aura of peppiness surrounding her. "We could get all of 1-B together and preform a big-time musical performance!"
"That sounds like a wonderful idea Valkyrie!" Pyrrha smiled and nodded her head at the idea.
"Well…guess I don't have anything better." Jaune muttered out as he scratched the back of his head with Nora still giving him a giant toothy smile. "Alright Valkryie, a band it is."
"ALRIGHT!" Nora did a big flip, nearly reaching the ceiling of Jaune's room, in victory. "Time to make some music!"
"Um, are you sure about that?" Ren gave some doubts to Nora's idea. "I mean, what makes you think that our classmates will all agree to join in?"
"Oh don't worry about that~" Nora said in a sweet sing-song voice that made Ren flinch. He knew that voice all to well. And it was anything but good. "I'm very good at convincing people!" Everyone then watched as Nora pulled out her hammer out of seemingly nowhere and held it in a threatening way.
Welp, couldn't say they weren't giving it their all.
DAY 1
"Ok Jaune, you can do this. There's no pressure at all to this just…gotta get your entire class ready to preform a song to open up the Sports Festival with." Jaune's attempt to calm himself down wasn't exactly going well. The golden blond was seen pacing right in front of the door leading to the gym area if UA. School was officially over meaning it was the perfect time to practice!
Nora had texted him and said that she was successful in getting all the members of 1-B to helping out in the performance. Some requiring more hits to the head then others according to her. But that didn't really make the Arc boy less nervous. He was still in charge of this thing and he was gonna have to conduct his classmates into making a decent performance.
"Welp…you know what they say Jaune Arc." Jaune told himself as he faced the doors. "Do or die." And so, taking one last deep breath to try and calm his nerves, Jaune opened the doors and headed inside. The gym had many fold up chairs set up to see all the members of 1-B who were all holding some sort of instruments and all chatting about to make the time pass. Some of his classmates having a big lump on their head most likely caused from Nora and her hammer.
Jaune walked past everyone still chatting and to a conductor stand that had a conductor stick in it. Taping the stick against the stand, Jaune managed to get everyone to stop talking and look towards him. "Alright everyone! Thank you all for coming out here today!" Jaune greeted everyone with a few nervous drops of sweat coming down his head.
"Some less willing then others." Monoma pointed out with an irritated glare. He was one of the students Nora had to…convince to come here tonight.
"Heheheh…" Jaune sheepishly chuckled before clearing his throat. "S-So a-as I'm sure you a-all know, Present Mic left me in charge of setting up the opening show of the Sports Festival and I've recruited-"
"Forced!" Kuroiro interrupted with a large bump on his head.
"Recruited all of you to put on a big musical spectacular!" Jaune went on with his announcement despite the interruption. "Ok so before we start, I should ask, does anyone in this room have any musical experience?"
Jaune smiled as there were a few of his classmates who rose their hands in response showing they did have some experience. It was then Ren rose up his hand. "Do instruments of cooking count?" The ninja asked with a straight face.
"No." Jaune simply answered.
"Are pancakes an instrument?" Nora asked as she rose her hand with a goofy grin on her face.
"No Valkyrie." Jaune deadpanned at his friend as she lowered her hand. "Pancakes is not an instrument." Nora then rose her hand again. "Waffles aren't an instrument either." Nora lowered her hand as Jaune took a deep breath and looked to Pyrrha who was giving him a reassuring smile and thumbs up. Jaune smiled at the amazon before looking to the rest of the class. "Ok, that's fine. Most of you don't have any experience but I'm sure with enough hard work we can get you all ready in time for the festival!"
"YEAH!" Tetsu cheered while raising a drumstick into the air.
"Ok, Pyrrha should have printed some music and left it under your seats." Jaune informed every while pointing his stick to Pyrrha.
"Hello again!" Pyrrha sweetly waved to everyone. All of 1-B reached under their seats and pulled out some sheet music and looked over it.
"Alright then, I want you all to look over it and play as the sheet instructs." Jaune said as he tapped the stick against the stand again before pointing at Pyrrha, Ibara, and Jurota. "First the brass!" The three who had brass instruments nodded as they proceeded to play their instruments just as the sheet music instructed and managed to do it rather well.
"Alright, alright." Jaune nodded with a smile before pointing at Yui, Rin, and Ren. "Now the wind!" The three with wind instruments played the same notes as the brass.
'So far so good! This might actually work!' Jaune thought with a rather eager smile. Jaune then pointed more confidently at Nora and Tetsu. "And now the drums!" However, instead of playing the drums how they should normally be played the two proceeded to place their drumsticks in their mouths and play as hard they can.
What resulted was the sticks blowing out of their mouths and piercing the shoulders of Jaune's hoodie and pinning him to the wall. "Maybe…you two…should work on that. Just a bit…" Jaune squeaked out with widen eyes. Nora giggled with a big grin as Tetsu smiled and scratched the back of his head sheepishly as the rest of the class deadpanned at them.
"Ok…so w-with that o-outta the way…" Jaune stuttered as he unpinned himself from the way by removing the drumsticks. Although this did lead to him fall on the floor face first causing a few members of the class to laugh a bit. Jaune quickly stood back up and dusted himself off. "So, I think the first thing we should work on is getting into rhythm with each other! Everyone stand up and stand in straight rows of five."
"Is this the part where we start kicking?" Pony asked as she raised her hand in the air.
"No Pony." Jaune answered with the shake of his head. "That's a chorus line."
"Kicking?" Kosei repeated with an excited grin as he stood right up with an eager grin on his face. "I wanna do some kicking!" The solid air quirk user then did just as he said and kicked the person sitting next to him.
Togaru Kamakiri.
"Ow!" Kamakiri grunted as he held the place Kosei kicked. The Razor-Sharp quirk user glared hard at Kosei and letting out a vicious growl. "Why you…" Kamakiri then jumped at Kosei with the two's brawl being obscured by a dust cloud. Everyone then watched as their fight and cloud moved over and into a door leading into the locker rooms and-
"Aaaaaah-ho-ho-ho-ho-aaah!" Everyone was completely silent after hearing Kosei's scream coming from the locker room. There was complete silence until finally, after a minute or two, Kosei peaked his head out of the locker room.
"Whoever's the owner of locker 36, ya left your phone on." Kosei then stepped out of the locker room…to revealed is neck stuck in a trombone. Every step he took the trombone would play a note. Even he finally reached his seat, the trombone played a long note that caused Kosei to open his mouth before the solid air quirk user looked himself over.
DAY 2
"Okay everyone! You're doing great! Keep it up!" Jaune encouraged with a smile on his face as he led his class through the streets of the city. He was currently conducting everyone like a marching band as they played Semper Fidelis with the only one not playing an instrument being Jaune himself as the conductor and Sen Kaibara who, due to his quirk, was twirling around a flag.
"And turn!" Jaune instructed everyone as they reached a turn in the side walk. He then looked to Sen and nodded at his twirling. "Ok Kaibara doing a great job! But try amping it up! Really give them something to look at!" Sen then activated his quirk on all the fingers on his hands and started twirling his flag at extreme speeds. "Yeah yeah! Just like that! Put even more juice into it! Leave them speechless!"
Sen grunted as his activated his quirk on both of his arms…and that's where the chaos started.
"Woah! Woah! Woah!" Sen let out as he twirled his flag so fast he ended up getting dragged out into the road and-
CRASH!
The sound of a car crash was heard as everyone from 1-B winced and looked away. When they all opened their eyes, they saw a single tire rolling past them. Tetsu then took his trumpet and started playing Taps with everyone putting their hands to their heart and closing their eyes.
All except Jaune who proceeded to get into fetal position on the ground.
DAY 3
"Ok how and why did you get all these drums in here?" Currently Jaune and various other 1-B members were in the gym for rehearsal...only to see Kosei with the biggest grin ever on his face hold drumsticks with the entire room filled with drums, drums, and more drums.
"Well let me tell you something Arc." Kosei began as he twirled his drum sticks a little bit. "If there's one thing the ladies love, it's a drummer. So I'm thinking for this little show of ours I could preform something that'll not only gives the ladies, but everyone watching something to love! The 1000 drum, drum solo!"
"1000 drums?" Ren questioned with a raised eyebrow. "You seriously got 1000 drums just for this?"
"Well this outta be good." Tokage snickered as she put her hands on her hips. "Alright air boy, lets see what you got."
"Alright! A one, a two, a one two three four!" Everyone then watched as Kosei got down to business. He began to hit all the drums around him in a rather solid rhythm as hard as he could to really get a beat going. Everyone present watched and listened as Kosei kept at it with the drums around him.
The solid air quirk user then moved away from the group of drums he was originally at and moved onto an area where he set up some more drums as well as some cow bells, bongos, and jingle bells. Some couldn't help but have their eyes widen and give a slightly impressed look as Kosei kept up his rhythm despite hitting various different type of drums and even some instruments that were more or less separate from drums.
Sweat started to come off of Kosei's head as he started to pant a little from energy he was putting into hitting the drums with all his might. He kept moving and hitting every drum, symbol, bell, and whatever else he set up that he passed by as he walked and played. He even got onto a skateboard he brought and started to skate and play at the same time getting some whistles from everyone present.
"Wow! Look at him go!" Shoda commented with a smile on his face.
"He's gonna pass out." Awase quietly commented with a blank look.
"Oh yeah…keep it going…keep…it…going." It was now five minutes into Kosei's drum solo and he was nearing the last of the drums as he set up. But he was now heavily panting and sweat was seen all over his face and even staining the cloths he was wearing a bit. He wasn't hitting the drums as hard and he was starting to lose his rhythm.
Finally, he reached the very last thing he had yet to hit. A gong.
"O….Ok….almost…finished….." Kosei was practically limping toward the gong, and when he eventually reached it and lifted his drum stick to hit it…he crashed down on the floor and proceeded to pass out.
"Called it." Awase muttered
"Oh yeah." Juzo complimented with an eyeroll. "That's really gonna get the ladies attention."
Meanwhile Jaune buried his face into his hands while Pyrrha tried to cheer him up and reassure him by patting him on the back.
DAY 4
"Ok everyone, this is our last night together before the Sports Festival tomorrow." Jaune said with a very nervous edge in his voice. "And I know some of you haven't exactly…improved since we started…" Nora was currently chewing on a trumpet. "But I have a theory. People talk loud when they wanna act smart, right?"
"CORRECT!" Monoma yelled loudly.
"So, if we play loud, people might think we're good. Everybody ready?" Everyone grinned as they rose up their instruments with only Pyrrha and Ren looking concerned about the situation. "And a one, and a two, and a one, two, three, four!"
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
There wasn't a single uncracked window at UA…
"Ok new theory…" Jaune let out while indented into the wall with his cloths torn up. "Maybe we should play so quietly, no one can hear us."
"Well maybe we wouldn't sound so bad if some people didn't play with big meaty hands!" Kuroiro rudely stated…while standing next to Kendo.
The orange headed girl turned to the black skinned boy and narrowed her eyes at him. "What did you say, punk?!" Kendo harshly poked Kuroiro who wasn't intimidated in the slightest.
"Big…meaty…HANDS!" Kuroiro repeated in a harsher and louder tone.
"We these hands happen to know some martial arts!" Kendo challenged while cracking her knuckles.
"Bring it on Big Hands!" Kuroiro yelled while making a 'come on' gesture with both of his hands. "Bring it on!"
"Come on people." Pyrrha was quick to try and defuse the situation as she stood in between of her fellow 1-B students and tried to push them away from each other. "Let's be smart and bring it off."
"Oh so now the damn magnet is gonna preach to us!" Kamakiri yelled rudely with a few tick marks on his head.
The conflict quickly spread through out all of class 1-B as yelling and arguments were heard. Jaune audibly gulped as he watched it all take place. "Ok, ok, I know tensions are high everyone." Jaune nervously said as he tried to defuse the fighting. "But can we just try to-" Jaunes words fell on deaf ears as everyone in his class quickly dragged into a free for all brawl.
Nora was laughing like a mad woman as she bashed others over the head with drums.
Shishida and Bondo charging at each other while using large woodwinds like lances only for Yanagi to telekinetically smash them together with two large symbols.
Kamakiri approached Manga who was using a xylophone as a shield. But the Razor Sharp quirk user proceeded to use a xylophone mallet to tear the keys off of the instrument. Manga quickly ran away and Kamakiri was about to chase after him only for Kosei to come up to him and kick him similar to their first day of practice. Kamakiri growled at Kosei before smirking and picking up a trombone. Kosei flinched before running away screaming with Kamakiri chasing him.
The chaos seemed to be never ending as everyone kept fighting with the various instruments until…
Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!
Everyone stopped instantly at the sound of Komori's watch beeping as the Mushroom quirk user looked to it and said. "Oh hey its ten, rehearsal is over." Everyone then stood up and started talking, acting as if a massive brawl hadn't happened, and started walking to the exit of the gym…only for Jaune to open the doors from the outside and looked everyone with sadness.
"Welp, why am I not surprised?" Jaune said as he raised his hands in the air followed by a heavy sigh. "I just wanted one thing from you guys and none of you took it seriously. I didn't want much. I just wanted a little help so I don't humiliate myself at one of the biggest events of the world. But I guess humiliation is just the story of Jaune Arc tomorrow. Don't bother coming up on stage tomorrow except for the actual competition. I'll just tell everyone how I wasn't able to provide an opening show. So thanks, thanks for nothing…"
Jaune then turned around, slumped down and walked away while full of sadness. Everyone simply watched in silence until Nora let out. "You're welcome."
"Well, I hope you're all very proud of yourselves!" Everyone turned to Pyrrha who was giving everyone an extremely harsh look that made them either flinch or look down in guilt. "Jaune is both our class rep and our friend. He's always been there for us when we needed help. Tsunotori, who's been giving you English lessons these past few weeks and has asked for nothing in return?"
"Arc…" Pony muttered sadly while kicking the ground.
"Tokage." Pyrrha then pointed to the green haired girl. "When we were practicing with 1-A and Bakugo exploded your parts all over the place, who helped put you back together while you were knocked out?"
"It was Arc…" Setsuna said in a guilty tone.
"Exactly!" Pyrrha let out loudly. "Jaune has always been there for us when we needed help."
"Well he didn't help me with my idea for the Sports Festival." Monoma claimed with a cocky smirk.
"Your plan stunk." Nora bluntly said before hitting Monoma over the head with her hammer and giving him another large bump.
"The point being…" Pyrrha continued. "Jaune has done so much for us and its time we give a little back to him. I'm sure we can all pull together and truly put on a performance UA hasn't seen or will see ever again!"
"YEAH FOR OUR CLASS REP!" Tetsu cheered with a pumped-up fist with the rest of the class cheering as well.
"Now let's make Jaune Arc proud!" Pyrrha cheered with a large smile on her face as she picked up Jaune's conducting stick with everyone picking up their instruments. "A 1, a 2, a skiddly diddly doo."
"Mama, Big brother, is Jaune gonna be alright?" This was it, the day of the Sports Festival. The event nearly everyone in the world watched. And currently Izuku, Inko, and Eri could be seen riding the train together to UA with Jaune sitting a little away from them with a depressed expression on his face. Both Izuku and Jaune also had bags containing their P.E. uniforms which they would be wearing for the Festival.
"I'm not sure." Inko said as she looked to Jaune with concern before turning to her son. Due to Izuku asking All Might, he managed to get tickets to the Festival for both his mother and sister. The number one hero offered the same for Jaune and his family but Jaune's mother and a few of his sisters got rather…anxious in big crowds and they were ok with watching from home. "Do you know what's wrong sweetie."
"Well…I'm not 100% sure." Izuku said as he looked to his sadden friend with sympathy. "He did mention something about being put in charge of the starting show to the Festival so…maybe it has something do with that?"
"Is he still competing in the Festival?" Eri asked as she looked up at her brother.
Inko and Izuku gave her reassuring smiles as the latter put a hand on her head and nodded. "Don't worry Eri." Izuku told her softly. "He'll be competing. And I'm sure whatever's going on will work itself out."
Eri hummed a bit as she looked to Jaune again. "Ok."
One train ride later, and they had made it. Izuku was full of nervousness but also excitement while Jaune…was still the same as before. Inko and Eri hugged them both and wished them luck before the mother and adoptive daughter went off to go find their seats in the stadium where the first years would be competing.
Once they were out of sight, Izuku turned to his friend with concern and asked. "Hey, is everything alright Arc?"
Jaune let out a deep sigh and ran a hand through his hair. "Yeah…everything's…fine." Jaune said before he started to walk away. "Just…getting ready to be completely humiliated on international television. I'll…see you at the competition."
"W-Wait…" Izuku spoke and reached out to his friend only for Jaune to keep walking and not look back.
A little later, Jaune could be seen walking into a pathway Present Mic emailed him to meet at for him and his…band to go into the stadium and preform. While Mic made it back in time to watch the show in person, he had to give up his commentating job as it was already taken this year.
"Well…let's get this over with." Jaune said as he walked forward and saw Present Mic leaning against the wall bobbing his head while listening to his MP3 player. "Um, excuse me?"
Present Mic rose his head in response before looking towards Jaune. The pro hero gave a big smile as he turned off his MP3 player and pointed at Jaune. "Yo wazzup Arc?! You and your band ready for this or what?!" Mic excitedly let out only to look around and see a distinct lack of a band. "Hey wait, where's this band you emailed me about?"
"Well…" This was it. Time to tell Mic he had absolutely nothing to open up the festival with. To have to tell the entire world he had nothing to open up with. "Here's the thing…"
"Ah there they are!"
"Wait, what?" Jaune let out in confusion to Mic's words before turning around and his face turning to one of massive surprise. "AAAAHHH! MY BAND!" There they were. The entire class of 1-B dressed up in red marching band uniforms with yellow highlights and tall hats.
"We're ready to perform, Jaune!" Pyrrha told the Arc boy with a big smile on her face as she put a hat matching the one's 1-B was wearing onto Jaune's face.
"Way to go Arc!" Present Mic gave Jaune a thumbs up. "Looks like you're all ready!"
Currently Nora was doing a goofy dance with a massive smile on her face.
"That's her…eager face." Jaune told the pro hero with a few beads of nervous sweat going down his head.
"Alright!" Mic cheered while making some wild hand movements. "You all ready to get this show on the road?!"
"YES SIR!" Everyone in 1-B except for Jaune cheered in unison.
"Ready as I'll ever be…" Jaune nervously said with an uneasy smile as he walked forward with his band following him.
Roaring cheers could be heard from the first-year stadium of the Sports Festival. Every single seat was filled either with pros or people who actually managed to get tickets to the event. The stadium itself was completely circular with a grassy field in the center with an orange track field outlining it. And in the very middle was a cement stadium set up by Cementoss with instruments set up on it for the pre-festival show.
And there were also multiple giant jumbotron sized screens set up around the stadiums with all of them currently showing the two people who would be commentating this year's Festival.
Professor Port and Doctor Oobleck.
"Alright everyone!" Ports voice was heard through out the stadium. "Who's ready to witness the single biggest event of the entire year?" The crowds cheering was even louder, even pros who were supposed to be acting as security for the event couldn't help but watch and cheer. "Glad to hear it! Me and my mustache can hardly contain our excitement!"
"Of course we aren't gonna start just yet." Oobleck informed everyone with a smile on his face. "Of course we're still keeping the tradition of opening up the Festival with a grand spectacular event! And so it gives me great honor to provide to all of you…the musical styling of Class 1-B led by its class representative Jaune Arc!"
Everyone cheered as they saw 1-B marching out onto the stadium with some of them already holding instruments with others having their instruments on the stadium them would be preforming on. 'Welp, this is it Jaune.' Jaune dreadfully thought to himself as he and his class witness the amount of people that would be watching their performance. 'The last time you'll be able to show your face without getting laughed at.'
"You kids got this!" Mic encouraged them as 1-B stepped up onto the cement stadium with the few not having instruments walking over to the instruments set up on stage and ready to play like they've never played before.
"Alright everyone…" Jaune began extremely nervously as he picked up a conducting stick off the conducting stand he was in front of. "Let's get this over with. 1, 2, 3, 4..."
Jaune winced as the band began…but it wasn't at all what he thought. He heard a glorious intro on the trumpets and peaked an eye to see Monoma, Sen, Kendo, Komori, Shishida, Shoda, Kosei, Tokage, Yanagi, and Rin playing expertly on the trumpets.
Once that was done, Ren was seen in front of a keyboard and, with his usual expression on his face, the ninja of 1-B pressed keys on the board that went in rhythm with the trumpet players with them moving out of the way to reveal Tetsutetsu TetsuTetsu with a microphone.
Tetsu:
The winner takes all…
It's the thrill of one more kill!
Jaune and Mic could only watch in amazement as the crowd went silent to hear Tetsu's singing.
Tetsu:
The last one to fall…
Will never sacrifice their will!
Nora could be seen on drums wearing some slick shades as some plumes of smoke went off to reveal Pyrrha, and Juzo playing guitars, Bondo on a keytar, Manga on bass, Pony on a saxophone, and Awase, Kamakiri, Kuroiro, Yui, and Ibara all providing back up.
Tetsu:
Don't ever look back on the world closing in!
Be on the attack with your wings on the wind!
Oh, the games will begin!
At this point, Jaune lost any sense of nervousness he might have still had, tossed away his conductor stick, and cheered his classmates on.
Tetsu:
And it's sweet, sweet, sweet victory...
Tetsu and Ren:
YEAH!
Tetsu:
It's ours for the taking…
It's ours for the fight!
At this point Present Mic couldn't possibly become more proud as he proceeded to faint from pure joy.
Tetsu:
And it's sweet, sweet, sweet victory...yeah!
And the one who's last to fall…
Pyrrha then came in sliding on her knees and preformed an epic guitar slow which was followed by a brief drum solo from Nora.
Tetsu:
The winner takes all!
Jaune then proceeded to dance around before jumping up in what the song was titled, sweet victory. His classmates actually did it and the crowd was cheering loudly. The show was a success. And while in just about ten minutes they would all be out again in their P.E. uniforms and be competing against all the other classes and each other, Jaune was still gonna enjoy this sweet, sweet, victory while he could.
And once the song was over…
The UA Sports Festival had officially begun.
