The entire lair fell silent. Bill, Ratigan, Alex and Fidget in the same spots. Felicia started off, with Rosalie on her back. Through the large sewer grate they went, the sound of Felicia's purring was the last sounds they heard. Ratigan continued to gaze down the grate.
Bill sighed "I'll miss her laugh..."
FIdget grinned bitterly "I'll miss her singing.."
"I'll miss her." Alex added. The boys walked off, leaving Ratigan on his own. His ears flopped down, saddened "I was the one who had it all.."
"I was the master of my fate.." he walked past Rosalie's room, then locked the door forever with a small golden key.
"I never needed anybody in my life. I learned the truth too late." he walked into the piano room he built for her, but couldn't commit to walking in. Instead he locked the door like the bedroom, ever to be seen again.
He began to walk down the same sewer grate that Felicia left through "I'll never shake away the pain... I close my eyes but she's still there.."
He shook his head, feeling foolish, continuing down the pipes, he made it through to the other side, a secret entrance of brick and mortar that slipped open. Looking out to the outside, he saw Felicia and Rosalie at the end of the street of the river front area. Rosalie patted Felicia gently. Ratigan smiled slightly, getting a final glimpse at her "I let her steal into my melancholy heart... It's more than I can bear.."
Looking around, he climbed up on a small rigging near the pier. There he was able to catch a full view of Rosalie and Felicia leaving the water front, the cat carefully moved past all the people and garbage cans.
"Now I know she'll never leave me... Even as she runs away!
"She will still torment me, calm me, hurt me, move me.. Come what may.." he hopped on another rigging, hanging on to the metal loop. She looked behind her, not catching Ratigan watching her leave the last bridge into the river front. Felicia's movements made Rosalie's light blue skirts flow behind her.
Wasting in my lonely tower, waiting by an open door.. I'll fool myself she'll walk right in..
And be with me for evermore.."
Losing sight of her, he continued to climb, he hurried up on a window sill of one of the small human sized houses.
"I rage against the trials of love... I curse the fading of the light!" he saw a small glimpse of her and Felicia, he was running out of sight, he continued to climb higher, climbing walls of vines that were shaped like a staircase for him to easily step to the next sill.
"Though she has flown so far beyond my reach. She's never out of sight!"
Reaching the top of the building finally, he climbed up the final stair of vines and landed next to the fire escape, exasperated, he watched as Rosalie was halfway to her destination. The nice and pleasant district that she was taken from.. Her face free of her hood, he caught a small glimpse of her, to engrain in his memory. Felicia continued to hurry down the streets, starting to fog from the night. The sky full of dark blues and stars. It was a beautiful but very sad night.
"Now I know she'll never leave me.. Even as she fades from view..
She will still inspire me, be a part, of everything I do..
Wasting in my lonely tower, waiting by an open door." he sadden, his brows in a frustrated and sad glare "I'll fool myself she'll walk right in.. And as the long, long nights begin.."
She was finally gone.. The view of this girl who stole his heart was finally gone.
"I'll think of all that might have been. Waiting here, for evermore.."
The sun was finally down, the sky a sad blue color..
Nora was walking the empty streets of London, she was lost within the many tall buildings of the city. Nora muttered to herself "Well, why have I gotten myself in this big mess." scratching her head, she turned at a sudden noise "Oh no.. I never thought about what would be out here.."
A sound of tingling bells behind her. Nora felt her heart beat fast. Looking ahead of her, a giant cat of golden fur, stopped in front of her. A voice called out "Nora!?" Rosalie slid down the cat. Nora, still frozen in fear, suddenly breathed out heavily "Are you kidding me! You had me searching around all of London for you only to see you galavanting on a giant cat! Oh you're in big trouble missy!"
Rosalie waved "Hi Nora.."
"Hi Rosalie.." Nora's eyes suddenly bugged out, she quickly forced her into a hug, the both of them starting to well up with tears. Nora whispered "Oh my dear, I thought I'd never see you again!" It was a long and forceful hug. Felicia meowed and both of them looked up. Nora placed her hands on her hips "And who is this?"
Rosalie pet the cat's leg, in return the cat meowed loudly "This is Felicia, she belongs to Ratigan!"
"B-but, How did you escape?!"
"I didn't escape Nora.." she smiled kindly "He let me go.."
"That terrible criminal!? We hired a detective to find you! We assumed the worst!
Rosalie smiled again, taking Nora's hand "He's not terrible Nora, he's actually very kind and gentle." Nora raised a brow at her and Rosalie began to guide her to the cat "Here, come on, she'll take us home and I'll explain everything!"
Nora stood back, feeling nervous "Rosalie, I don't know.."
"It's okay, she seems vicious but she's very wonderful.. Aren't you girl?" the cat meowd again, scaring Nora out of her wits. Rosalie laughed and helped her on the cat "Come on.."
Soon they made it to the house, Nora laughed to herself "Wow.. Three children?!"
"Yes.." Rosalie grinned "And they're wonderful. Such beautiful kids.. And his thugs, Bill and Fidget.." Nora shook her head "I don't know how you had so much patience."
"Well, I had to.. I knew if I lost my patience and faith I'd come home.." she began to slide down the cat's back "I'd lose everything." She started to help Nora off the cat. Nora patted the cat's back "Thank you Felicia." The cat purred in return. Nora slid down "I just don't understand one thing..."
Rosalie felt Felicia's nose touch her back. Rosalie turned and pressed her head gently into the middle of the cats face "Thank you Felicia.. For everything.." petting her one more time down the nose. The cats head rose up and she began to walk off. Watching her walk off and turn the final corner. Rosalie waved and turned to Nora "Yes?"
"You speak so highly of everything.. The children, the thugs.. What about him?"
Rosalie began through the gate of the house with Nora "He... He was wonderful... he changed somehow.. at first he terrified me.. I wanted nothing to do with him. He was mean and full of himself.. But when he let me go.. he seemed so sad.. And i was too.. To be honest I didn't think I should leave.. He made me feel important.. Like he cared about me. Ratigan made me feel brave, and smart.."
Nora shook her head "You know? I think you changed too." they sat at the final step of the house. Rosalie then stood:
"There's been a change in me
A kind of moving on
Though what I used to be
I still depend upon
For now I realize
That good can come from bad
That may not make me wise
But oh it makes me glad-"
And I- I never thought I'd leave behind
My childhood dreams
But I don't mind
For now I love the world I see
No change of heart a change in me.
For in my dark despair
I've slowly understood
My perfect world out there
Had disappeared for good
But in it's place I feel
A truer life begin
And it's so good and real
It must come from within
And I- I never thought I'd leave behind
My childhood dreams but I don't mind
I'm where and who I want to be
No change of heart
A change in me."
Nora stood, feeling her young ward so grown up and matured. Nora stood with her, and wiped her tears. She gently took her hands, squeezing them in affection.
No change of heart
A change in me.."
Nora and Rosalie hugged tightly. Nora smiled and touched her cheek "I'm so proud of you."
They began to walk into the house, finally opening the door, the house was dark and dreary "Hello? I'm home! It's me!" she ran inside, feeling the dark and damp coldness "It's me Rosalie! And Nora! We're home!"
There was a light upstairs.. Rosalie and Nora quickly ran up the steps to the main room. Rosalie gasped, Nellie, Charlie and the twins were tied up and gagged with rope. She ran to them, realeasing them one at a time of their gags. Nellie first "Oh Rosalie! It's you!" Rosalie swept her hair out of her face "Oh Nellie, thank goodness you're okay."
Nora helped Charlie, the butter groaned "It was terrible!"
Rosalie shook her head "I don't understand, what happened, I thought you were sick! On your deathbead. What happened to you?"
The twin's gag were slipped off, they spoke in unison "It was your fiance!"
A voice echoed behind them "Now, now girls, your spoiling the surprise!"
Rosalie and the others turned. Elijah was dressed in a dark suit, his brown hair slicked back gently. Rosalie stood strong "What is the meaning of this? Why are they tied up?"
"So they wouldn't escape! Oh my beautiful but not bright girl." He moved closer to her, Rosalie backed up "What? No hug?"
"Elijah, what is the meaning of this?" she pulled out the newspaper, showing the headline "I was told Nellie was on her deathbed!" Elijah grabbed the paper from her "Some of my finest work, it's a one of a kind!"
"You made this?"
"Of course! I had to get you back one way or another." he stroked her cheek and she flinched "What's the matter darling? No kiss hello?"
Nellie spoke "She doesn't trust you anymore!" Rosalie nodded "That's right. You lied to me. The wedding is off Elijah!" the man chuckled, scaring her "I'm glad to see you're still wearing your engagement ring, I'd hate to hear that you strayed from me.." Rosalie scowled at him "How dare you treat my family so shamefully.. Why are you doing this?"
"Because I want your money! It's not easy being a man of inheritance that's gone.. I'll need to marry into it.. And you were so easy to marry me like that! Why quit our momentum."
"You never cared?" Rosalie's face grimaced "I trusted my kidnappers more than I trusted you."
"How did that go by the way? Have a good time? Wear pretty dresses? Danced the night away?"
"How did you?-"
Elijah grinnned "I've had some informants keep checks on you.. To make sure my investment is nice and safe."
"I'll never be yours."
He forcefully grabbed her and kissed her, she pulled away from the kiss and smacked him hard. Elijah hesitated, then pulled his hand up to hit her back. She and the whole family flinched, and he realized he needed the upper hand "I think you will.. And you'll need to in order to save your family." he walked to her, holding her arm forcefully "Now my dear, we're going to have a wedding... and everyone loves a wedding."
"James was right about you.."
He cackled "OH my GOODNESS!" he leaned over "You're on a first name basis with him." his grip on the arm loosened a little "Well that's not gonna matter, he doesn't care about you anyway." she pulled her arm away, and heard cackling ahead of her. In the doorway, three other crooked thugs showed up, blocking her way. Rosalie gasped "Who are these people?"
"We're the help Miss.." one of them grinned and laughed at her misery. Elijah turned "No use in struggling Rosalie, and the professor is not a worry anymore.."
She muttered under her breath "He'll come for me.."
"And how are you so sure?" Elijah laughed with the other boys. Rosalie suddenly pulled the bell out of her bag, then swung hard spinning in a pirouette, smacking hard into Elijah and both of the boys behind her. The weight of the bell, smacking them hard to the ground. Nora waved to her "Run girl! Go get the professor!"
Rosalie quickly ran out of the house, running down the streets, ringing Felicia's bell. She continued, running out of breath and getting lost within the streets. She was confuddled. She began down another street, and suddenly found the pier. Running and running, not daring to look back. Rosalie was exhausted, but hurried down the pier.
She didn't know where she was going, frustrated, she rung the bell one last time in the air. She heard a meow bellow in the fog of the ocean. Happily she shouted "Felicia! I'm over here!"
Suddenly she felt hands grab her quickly from behind. A thug chuckled "Oh beware boys! This Rose has thorns!"
Another thug chuckled and jumped with glee "Get the chloroform Lockson got us!"
Rosalie shouted again "Let me go! Felicia! Professor!" pulling away again, her necklace fell off her neck, falling beneath the pier. And plopping at one of the entrances of the lair. Rosalie smelled a sweet and bitter smell, continuing to struggle for her life, a piece of fabric was forced on her face. She fainted suddenly, her limbs running loose, she whispered "James...".
The strong thug flopped her over the shoulder "Ha! Tried to run, but luckily we got her."
"Thank goodness we got her before that cat found her!" he jumped with glee "Now come on, let's get outta this fog." stealing the girl away. Just moments after, Felicia appeared at the entrance with Fidget and Bill in tow "I could have swore I heard something out here."
"Well Felicia defiintly did!" Bill patted her head "What is it girl?" Felicia meowed and the boys hopped off. Bill picked up the necklace in his hands "What's this? Isn't this Rosalie's necklace?"
"Maybe it fell off her when she left!"
"It's still warm..." he felt the chain in his hands "Somethings not right.. She never took this off. We need to tell the boss."
All three headed back through the pipes. Hopefully they didn't run out of time...
