As Lexi re-entered the waiting room, she found her mother on the phone. While making her way over to her mother, Gemma finished her call and grabbed her keys from her purse.
"How'd everything go? Baby good?" Gemma asked.
"Yup. Everything is still right on track," Lexi told her mother, not ready to share hers and Happy's news of the twins. Deciding to try seeing what her mother knew, she asked, "Can we go to the club house? I want to switch into some more comfortable clothes and see if Hap's shown up yet."
"I just got off the phone with your father. He isn't there but Clay wants us to go pick up a rental car for you," Gemma replied not giving up anything.
"Can it wait til later Ma? I'm seriously exausted."
"Well let's go back to the house so you aren't sleeping in the club house then. You'll be able to get better rest that way and when Happy's back he will know to find you at the house," Gemma tried to convince her.
"I'll be okay. I've always slept better with the chaos and I want to be there when he gets back. It's likely to be his first stop," Lexi countered.
"We will go check to see if he's back by the time we get there. I have a few hours of paperwork so I'll do that and if he still hasn't shown, then we will head back to the house."
"Okay," Lexi readily agreed. She knew she needed to get out of Gemma's clutches as soon as possible or it would be difficult once Kozik showed up. It wasn't that she wanted to leave Happy, but the urgency he had in his voice during the call definitely scared her a bit.
Lexi kept her eyes open and scanning their surroundings on the way through the parking lot and back to the garage. She didn't get the best explanation from Happy on what was going on, but she knew she needed to be alert. Every little movement had her eyes darting around. As soon as they made it to TM, the car had barely stopped and Lexi was jumping out.
"Jesus Lexi. Be careful!" Gemma scolded.
"Sorry, gotta pee! It's the damn pregnancy bladder," she yelled back practically running into the club house.
Making it inside she was grateful she had Happy's key still from the night before in her purse. She did a quick scan of the main room as she walked through and didn't see any of the SAMTAC members so she knew she needed to make it into Happy's dorm room before her mother made it inside.
Once in the room, she quickly locked the door with it's chain and started packing her belongings. She didn't want to pack his and make it too obvious she knew what was going on. After getting all her clothes from the dresser she went to the closet to get her shirts and empty the safe like Happy instructed.
Inside was a Beretta she instantly checked to see if it was loaded. Happy being Happy, it was and there was also an extra clip of ammo sitting next to it. Grabbing both she laid them on the nightstand and went back to grabbing the cash from the safe. There was about 10 grand just sitting in the bottom and another envelope full of cash Lexi didn't take the time to count. Moving the envelope, Lexi noticed a picture strip. It was of the two of them a few months after they'd made the unconscious decision to date. They'd been walking the pier in Seattle and Lexi got excited when she saw the photo booth. Happy had given her crap at first but still joined in on the goofy faces with her after the first couple shots. This strip held one of her favorite pictures of them. Lexi was sitting on Happy's lap leaning into his shoulder, eyes closed while he kissed the top of her head. It was simple but said so much, especially between them.
After shedding a few tears over the picture, she tossed all the cash but a brick of $1500 into her bag and left the rest in the safe, wanting to make sure Happy would have cash if needed once he got out. She placed the photo back where it was not wanting to disturb his hiding place. Last thing she did in the closet was grab two of his hoodies putting one into her bag and slipping the other on over her current clothes. It wasn't that she was cold, but she needed his scent to center herself. Lexi had no idea how long Happy was going to be in jail but from his call, it didn't seem like it would be an overnight trip. Given the situation she doubted he had any club protection either. Lexi sat her bag in the bottom of the closet and closed it's door in case someone tried coming in before Kozik got there. She had no idea how far North he had made it, but she hoped it would be a quick trip back for him. The quicker he got back, the quicker she could leave Charming. Even if it meant leaving Happy behind for now.
Lexi laid on the bed for what felt like forever but in reality had only been an hour before the knocking came.
"Lexi?" Her mother asked from the other side of the door before trying the knob. "Wake up, we're good to head to the house now."
Ignoring her mother she prayed the woman would go away on her own. Through the door she heard Gemma talking to someone.
"Bec, get me the spare master key for the dorms. I don't want Lexi wallowing in here."
"Sure Gem."
"Fuck you mom," Lexi muttered to herself checking her phone. Still no news. She was getting impatient with every passing minute. Listening to the people in the hall again she waited.
"Here's the keys Gemma," Bec said.
"Thanks," Gemma replied trying the keys in the lock. "What the fuck? Why won't these work on his door?"
"No idea. They're the ones we use to clean the guy's rooms."
"Son of a bitch probably changed the fucking lock. Ugh, I hope he rots wherever the fuck he's ran off to."
"What do you mean Gem? What's going on with Happy?" Bec asked.
"Don't worry about it. Get one of the guys to come pick this lock. I need to talk to Clay."
"Yes ma'am."
Lexi waited until she heard her mother leave the hall before rising from the bed. She then slid the Beretta into the back waistband of her jeans and the extra clip in her back pocket. Pulling Happy's hoodie down she made sure it was covered without being too obvious. About the time she finished, Lexi heard a knock on the door.
"Lexi? It's just me Bec. I have news from Kozik. Can you open the door?" her voice barely above a whisper but the urgency was there. Lexi quickly opened the door and shuffled the girl inside before locking it tight again.
"What's going on? Where is he?"
"He's on his way. They just passed the California border about 45 minutes ago so should be here any time."
"Why did he tell you? Why not just message me?"
"They didn't want Gemma to know in case she was still hovering. I started hanging around the club in Tacoma originally so the guys and I have a history. They knew they could trust me, just like you can."
"Not to be a bitch, but being raised in this life and especially after spending the last year with Hap, I trust no one but him and Koz."
"Well hopefully that can change some day. Anyways, I need you to wear this ring. Kozik said he's bringing your proper one when you get here, whatever that means. Is your bag packed?"
"Okay..." Lexi took the ring and slid it on her left hand ring finger. "Yeah it's packed and ready."
"Good," Bec replied as the girls heard a roar of bikes pulling into the lot. "That must be them. Let's go."
Following Bec out of Happy's dorm, Lexi locked the door behind her as they walked out to the parking lot. Once the two woman arrived in the main room of the club house, Lexi was greeted by her parents walking out of the chapel.
"Lexi, about time you're awake. Ready to head back to the house?" Gemma asked as the Tacoma guys made it in the door.
"Koz!" Lexi practically cheered, running across the room ignoring her mother. Once she hugged him, she whispered into his ear, "Please tell me we're leaving."
He gave her a subtle nod of the head. Lee, the Tacoma charter's president, then shocked her by pulling her into a hug.
"Hey kiddo," he told her simply wrapping his arms around her shoulder and tucking her into his side. "Ready to head home?"
"Yes please!" She told him. By this point her parents had approached the small group of SAMTAC members.
"Lee, haven't seen ya in a bit. Missed ya, brother."
"Hey Clay. Good to see ya too. Wish it was on better terms," Lee greeted Clay as the men started greeting other SAMCRO members. Lexi took that moment to slip behind Happy's club as the members greeted her like she'd always been around them. She didn't quite know what was about to go down but she was following Happy's instructions. His brothers would take care of her. The fact that they had raced down to show a united front for him was enough for her to take his word.
"What's brought ya down here?" Gemma asked being her normal nosey self.
"Hap wanted us to come get his old lady and make sure she's taken care of til he can get out," Lee told Gemma still keeping his eyes on Clay.
"My daughter's not going anywhere!"
"Gem, keep yourself in check. Lee, let's chat."
Clay didn't even wait for an answer before walking back towards the chapel. Lee nodded his head towards Kozik and Donut who each stepped back next to Lexi suddenly making her feel tiny. Gemma waited until the doors closed before she stomped closer to her daughter.
"Go get in my car, now!"
"Ma, no offense but Lee is Happy's president. As a good old lady, I can't disobey his charter's president. You taught me that," Lexi told her mother simply.
"You're not running off to Tacoma. You're our daughter and if your old man is in jail, you'll stay here with family so I know you're properly cared for."
"SAMTAC is my family now."
Lexi stepped forward to try getting around her mother only to have Gemma raise a hand to hit her. Before the hand could connect, Kozik intervened by grabbing Gemma's wrist.
"Gem, you know I have undying respect and love for you. But I cannot allow you to hit her. She's living the life you taught her. She's being loyal to her old man and his charter. She needs to come home with us," he explained calmly. "Lex, your bag, now."
"They aren't even married. He's not officially her old man. She doesn't even have his ink."
"No but she's got a ring," Kozik told her raising Lexi's left hand to flash the ring Bec had just given her. "And Lee has the copy of their marriage certificate. Lexi couldn't get inked while pregnant so they made it official in the eyes of the law instead."
With Kozik's words Gemma stormed to the chapel to confront Lee. Kozik quickly ushered Lexi to Happy's dorm in an attempt to get her out as soon as possible. Once they reached his room, Lexi rounded on him.
