Now You Know

"Hey, how are you?" Cassie smiled, walking into Thea's room with Theo the next day.

"I'm ok." Thea nodded to her.

"Hey, Thea." Theo smiled as she nodded to him.

"You guys ok?" Thea asked them.

"Yeah, we're good." Cassie smiled, "Chase is with dad today. He's attempting to teach him how to ride a bike."

"He's three." Thea scoffed.

"Oh, yeah. Just a bike with stabilizers still on it. Chase has like a little fear about bikes." Cassie said, "He just freaks out when he's on it."

"Oh, that's a shame." Thea frowned, "Well dad has a lot of patience so… he's learning with the right guy." She nodded.

"Yeah, that's what I said." Cassie smiled.

"You guys working today?" Thea asked.

"Yeah we're just finished." Theo nodded, taking a seat by the bed beside Cassie, "Cass arrested a couple of kids today." He turned to his wife who rolled her eyes, "Smoking weed in a parking lot up town, linked back to some property damage from last week that happened."

"It's my job. Don't make me feel bad for arresting little assholes who damage other people's property and… smell of weed." Cassie groaned as Thea smiled a little, "I had to spend the entire care ride to the station getting hit on by one of them, too." She shook her head, "He was like… fifteen."

"God loves a trier." Theo nodded.

"Sounds like quite a day." Thea chuckled.

"It was." Cassie shook her head, "I'm ready to go home, eat a burrito and fall asleep on the couch."

"You're wild." Thea nodded sarcastically.

"I know." Cassie said, "How's the therapy going?"

"Yeah, it's… it's going ok." Thea shrugged, "How did the dinner go at mom's?" She asked them.

"It was fine." Cassie nodded with Theo, "Dad spoke with Dan for a little bit. It wasn't too awkward. I think it went ok."

"Yeah, it did." Theo agreed.

"Well that's good." Thea said as Cassie nodded, "I uh… I actually wanted to talk with you both about something." She nodded.

"Are we in trouble?" Theo teased as Thea just smiled nervously.

"Uh… well, no." Thea wasn't sure what to say, "So Vincent came here to visit me. He said I shouldn't mention his name but… I don't fucking care." She shook her head with frustration.

"Vincent as in… the guy who was dealing you drugs?" Cassie asked.

"Yeah." Thea nodded, "So he came and visited me. At first I thought, oh here we go, he's after money or something." She shook her head, "But it was actually about you." She looked at Theo.

"Me?" Theo shook his head.

"Yeah… he said that you're getting too close to something." Thea said, "And that you've somehow found out things that normally cops don't find out." She said as Cassie turned to him, "And he said that… if you keep going this way then there could be a hit put out on you." She nodded.

"What?" Cassie screwed her face up.

"Who the hell is this guy?" Theo questioned, getting angry.

"He's just a dealer. He wouldn't tell me who his boss is. He only wanted me to tell you that you should be careful but… I can't just say that. I need to tell you everything." Thea nodded.

"How do they know I'm onto them?" Theo shook his head.

"What the hell are you getting into?" Cassie asked him as Theo just shook his head, ignoring her.

"Did he tell you a name or anything about who… who's onto me?" Theo asked.

"No. No name." Thea said, "He seemed pretty uptight about it." Thea nodded, "I told Vincent that you spoke with my dad and maybe you managed to find out some things from what he told you about the process of dealing and supplying and stuff-"

"Yeah well that gave me some tips, sure." Theo nodded.

"I… I did the right thing by telling you, right?" Thea nodded to him. She noticed he didn't even seem phased. In fact, he seemed intrigued.

"Yeah… yeah, of course." Theo nodded to her, "Thank you." He said as Thea nodded.

"Ok." Thea said, feeling relieved that she had finally told them, "He just… he seemed really concerned about it so… I mean, how do you deal with this kind of thing? Can't you arrest whoever it is that you're onto?"

"No, I don't got enough on them." Theo said, "It's a circle from the South side. Drug business in a car dealership plus… money laundering. Vincent must just be a dealer."

"They use the dealership to cover it up?" Thea asked as Theo nodded.

"Yeah. I've been around, pretend to buy a car and stuff. Your dad also gave me tips on how things are supplied. Kept a watch on them one night." Theo nodded.

"Someone must have spotted you." Thea said, "He told me that things aren't how they used to be. It's… kill or be killed. And they don't find the killed once they're gone." She said as Cassie looked at Theo.

"Nice of you to tell me about all of this." Cassie said, standing up abruptly from the chair.

"Cass." Theo looked at her, watching as she left the room as Thea watched.

"You've not filled her in?" Thea asked him.

"No." Theo sighed to himself, knowing he should have by now.

"Well you should go talk to her." Thea nodded to him, "And… be careful. Vincent isn't an enemy. He likes this family. And he looked worried about it." She said, "So you gotta figure out what you're gonna do."

"Thanks for letting me know." Theo nodded to her, "I gotta go talk to Cassie." He said as Thea nodded, watching him leave the room.

Theo left the facility, finding Cassie outside pacing a little.

"You're bullshit for not telling me about any of this." Cassie pointed to him angrily.

"I was just waiting for-"

"For what? For them to put a hit out on you?" Cassie asked, "Every time I asked you, you just said you kept coming up short."

"I didn't wanna jinx anything. I'm trying to keep this on the down low from the precinct." Theo told her.

"Yeah and I am not just your work colleague, Theo. I'm your wife." Cassie reminded him, "I think you forget that sometimes."

"Hey, I don't forget that." Theo assured her, "But my job is still my job and some things I can't go into detail with you."

"Oh, bullshit." Cassie shook her head, "You just live in your own world when it comes to this stuff. You focus so much on one thing that everything around you starts falling apart and you don't realise until it's over." She said.

"No I don't." Theo shook his head, "This is just a really important thing that I'm in charge of and I gotta take it seriously. I don't have a choice."

"Yeah well now they're onto you so what now?" Cassie asked him.

"It's fine. They're obviously feeling threatened. It's a good thing." Theo nodded.

"A good thing?" Cassie screwed her eyes up, "Are you serious? This is not a good thing, Theo. We have a three year old son. You can't afford to play dodge the bullet anymore." She said, "You heard Thea. These gangs are no joke. They know you're onto them and they will not hesitate to take you out. We've saw it before." She said, "You're not risking your life for this."

"Do you have any idea just how big it would be if I got these fuckers?" Theo asked her.

"Do you have any idea how much it'll suck if I have to raise our son on my own?" Cassie looked up at him as he sighed to himself, putting his hands on his hips and looking at her.

"What do you want me to do, Cass?" Theo questioned, "Huh? This is my job. This is our job. We get those fuckers off the streets and in prison." He said.

"I knew you shouldn't have gone to my dad." Cassie shook her head to herself, "What did he tell you? Does he know more than he lets onto?"

"No… no, he knows nothing about this gang and what's going on." Theo assured her, "But he knows how to move drugs. And he… he told me. He told me every detail and it helped. I managed to get named, faces, places… I got a whole profile for these fuckers."

"Yeah and they know you do." Cassie said.

"So? I can't just get spooked and forget all about it, Cassie." Theo said, "You can't be scared of this stuff when you're a cop."

"This stuff? This stuff is you potentially getting killed. Wake the hell up." Cassie said, "You know exactly how these people operate. Look at my family. Look what we've been through." She said, "I'm not doing all of that again."

"Then you shouldn't be a cop." Theo shook his head with frustration as Cassie looked at him.

"You're such a jerk." Cassie shook her head angrily, "Why are you always a one man band? Why is everything you do always a secret? You never want the help."

"I work better on my own." Theo said, "Cassie, nothing is going to happen to me. Or anyone. This means they're worried. They're gonna start slipping up." He nodded as Cassie just shook her head, not happy one bit with any of this.

"You won't even tell Jake about this?" Cassie asked.

"Jake knows. He's the only one who knows. He doesn't know that… there's a potential hit out on me coming but… he knows what I'm looking into." Theo nodded.

"Theo, these people can be anywhere. They can just… drive by and shoot you in the street." Cassie shook her head. It was stressing her out to the max.

"They're not gonna-"

"You don't know that." Cassie said, "Can't you get more cops in on it? Speed up the process to get them quicker?" She asked.

"No, it's too dangerous. Narcotic cops don't work in huge groups, you know that." He said, "If these people know that I'm onto them, they're certainly gonna know if a whole squad of cops are onto them." He said as Cassie sighed.

"I am not ok with this." Cassie made clear to him, "Not one bit."

"This is my job." Theo said, not backing down, "It's your job too. You get this."

"No… I don't get putting myself in that amount of danger." Cassie said, "You better come up with something to finish this quickly." She shook her head, "I'm serious, Theo. Being a cop does not give you immunity from danger."

"Don't worry. I know. I got the scars to prove it." Theo said.

"Yeah which all you dumb idiots brag about." Cassie shook her head, "It's like you're glad they know you're onto them-"

"Because things are gonna start moving quickly now. Just like you want." Theo said, "I'm gonna be on them like a hawk and they're gonna screw up."

"Or you're gonna end up dead." Cassie shook her head, "You know, I don't… I don't even wanna talk about it." She said angrily, "I'm going home."

"We came together." Theo looked at her.

"Then get in the car but don't speak to me." She made clear harshly, heading over to the car as Theo watched her, sighing to himself. He hated making her angry or upset, but his job was always a huge part of his life, even the dangers that came with it.
